    So if they are catering to straight men then it should be added.

    If they are catering to women then that's sexist.

    If they are catering to the LGBTQ community it has to be about representation vs tokenism.

    but again, if it's straight men then it should be added.

    My idea? It's that the creators of the game wanted to add it because they aren't just monkeys who turn cranks and turn out video games. They are artists, creators, writers, etc and they have something to say and they are saying it through the medium they work in.

    This is so brilliantly stated. Why are the ostensible wishes of  "straight men" the only ones that should be honored?

    Additionally, why is this, an optional portion of the game so controversial? Romance in general, and so-called "gay" romance in particular, are not required to progress the story. It is a fully optional portion of the overall game. For those who wish to save the world as a single unattached character, brilliant. For those who choose to save the world as a romanced character, brilliant as well.

    What Bioware has done is bring a reflection of the real world into its roleplaying game. Believe it or not, most of us actually know people who are gay or lesbian. Why is having a representation of that fact in DAI a bad thing?

    Are you trolling, or just falsely assuming - despite each post I have made providing evidence to the contrary - that I had any problem with romance/love/gay/sex/etc included in the game? What is with your snarky response?

As a gay man I find this unacceptable.

    You probably didn't mean "race".

    Having said that, I would say that if it made sense to the story then "yes" having a character that  was homophobic would be fine.

    There are gay people in movies. There are homophobic people in movies.

    There are gay people in books. There are homophobic people in books.

    People talk about video games being more than just quick fast "meaningless" past times. Now a company is trying to make them have some breadth and depth like movies and books.

    Whether or not they are successful is up to the player.

    I have never questioned a collection of pixels sexual preference. They are not real people. A gay man can exist in a game without using it as a publicity stunt.

    Homosexuality haven't always been discriminated, some religions made it a crime over time.

    Don't care we are discussing sexuality and yes in this case your sexual identity is less important. Of course the view varies on the place where you live. Where I am homosexuals are discriminated against, laughed at and demonised on a regular basis, which is why a developer taking on the issues is a bigger deal then it would be in a place that is more open. Maybe you simply don't see the issue because it is not made an issue where you are.

    We play a genre of games where 95% (and  I'm being generous) of the races, creatures, origins, technology, and brand of lore, the interactions, and relationship does not exist in our lives. How much of a person's life do they really seen in a game. Sometimes, I'm lucky if I even see anything at the represents my race or lifestyle in this genre...haven't flip out about it not one time...
