You level fast, items are easy to get, you get bored fast.
After six months 70 percent of the starters have moved on to the next MMO, this is what I think is wrong with gaming now.
Archeage is easy to level in but to get the best items is a long road.
Take for example a Bow, at 50 you can go to hasla and farm mobs in the smallish camp, they drop tokens for weapons, there are six different types of tokens none of which are tradeable, it takes 150 tokens to get a bow.
So you have to kill on average 900 mobs to get a bow solo or in a group where no one else is rolling on the bow, so the fastest way is get a group the people are rolling on different tokens.
To upgrade that bow you will need 150 more tokens of the same type, to upgrade that bow you need 200 tokens of that type.
So basically 3200 mobs of you rolling only on that token will get you there.
Add on top of that Hasla is a PVP zone and both sides are farming these mobs it can get pretty intense, it can piss you off greatly at times and be funny as hell at times.
This requires people to play together, you can flag and kill people on your own side in this zone too, so if your not a team player you might find yourself kicked out of the camp etc.
Or you might find players down there killing people where they can't get tokens.
If you want a bow but not farm these mobs you can get a crafted bow, I will not go into the process of getting the best crafted bow but it is a long process as well.
This is the grind in the game not the first 30 levels they are cake.
Lineage two once you got higher it would take about an hour of hard grinding to get 2 percent on your exp bar, 50 hours per level when it released that is a grind.
Gamers are soft now a days.
Lol, soft, what does not wanting to level through a game they hate just to get to a level, that apparently starts being fun, make anyone soft. I played DAOC at release, getting to 50 took forever, I didn t mind it at all, but then again I liked the game right away. FFXI , same thing, and so on. Just because someone says a game gets better at a certain point, doesn t mean it will to the people not liking it at the beginning, and it definitely doesn t make them soft.
Daoc had what that this game does not have in it in the first 20 levels? NOTHING
This game has a ton more stuff to do at first than Daoc did when it released and is much faster. You remember wearing all grey armor because anything past level 25 did not drop items at all in Daoc. Take off the Rose color glasses. I liked Daoc too a lot but you have changed more so than the games.
Lineage 2 higher levels took about 50 hours per level grinding mobs when it released, people can't make it past two hours in a game before they give up. Then say this is no fun what do you want a Pirate ship, a submarine, a house, a merchant ship, when you log into AA, you can get those things but you have to work for them.
Like I said gamers are soft now, give me now, give me now, give me now, I'm bored POS game.
What are you going on about. Who cares if it has a ton more stuff to do, the game is absolutely terrible IMO. DAOC was fun right off the bat for me, because I played it my way, not what this ton of stuff to do tells me how to. Sorry it doesn t make me soft at all, if anything a game without using your imagination, exploring, ie AA has quest hubs, unlike DAOC did or FFXI, I find these games make you soft, not those. In the end it s how I feel , opposed to how you feel, I ll give you one guess on who will win that argument in my eyes. Hint, opinions.
Sorry just had to add, you talk about gamers being soft now, yet you just said AA has more to do and faster, then go on to say give me now..... not sure what you re trying to say outside I think you re a little confused.
I had the same impression after my first hour of ArcheAge. It was so bland and felt like a game from 2004. But then I said to myself "C'mon.. give it a chance" and continued to play it. Well.. round about 11 hours on the clock and I can say: This isn't the game for me. It didn't get any better. I disliked the dumb themepark aspect (the quests were even more obnoxious than WildStar's), the labour point system (worst MMO idea ever) and the combat system (combos are neat but it felt so stale and outdated). Maybe it's a blast at endgame.. but I can't go through all that crap again to find something enjoyable.

So level 30 is the magical number for AA? nice to know. Every MMO has its magical number beyond which suddenly games become so much fun.
What I don't understand is why someone who completely dislikes quest hubs, walks into a game where there are multiple options for leveling ( even at the beginning ) and yet the first thing they do is quests?

I think in most cases if your heart is really into a game before it releases, getting to a certain level is not the issue. The trouble is getting those that are on the fence to try and get to that point. I started the last beta and stopped because it looked pretty much like all the rest of the games I had seen before. Once it truly releases I will probably put more effort into it, and I'm sure a lot more people will do he same. Now that I know the magical number is 30, I have a goal to shoot for!

If you're referring to my post: Where exactly did I mention that I dislike quest hubs in general? I love quests.. if they're interesting and engaging. But in ArcheAge they're neither. They should have made it a pure sandbox MMO or a pure themepark.. not a hybrid. I don't say that it's the worst game I've ever played but in my opinion it lacks quality in many aspects. It felt pretty mediocre.
got a beta invite and played for about an hour but i find this game abit meh....
its probably just me but while playing it i just felt like i couldnt be bothered its nothing to get excited about imo.. i think ill pass this one just like ESO..
what are others opinions on it is it worth time and effort? as i get older i find more and more i just cant bring myself to level up any thing lol, i think mmos might have died for me lol
Rush84, you're going to be crucified by the fans saying you didn't give it enough time and the game really opens up at level 30.
I will say yes at 30 there is a lot more to do then at level 1 but as with every game you have to get to that level first and if a game doesn't grab you and make you want to play it then quitting at level 1 is valid. It didn't grab you, you gave it an hour and got bored, unfortunately that happens.
I don't care how fun a game may be at level 30 (or whatever level) if I have to feel like it is a boring slog just to get there.
A note for any developers/want to be developers, When you build a game make sure it is as fun at level 1 as it is at level 10, 20, 30+.
I like what AA has to offer but like you op, I found that just trying to level up was not that fun. I am still on the fence on if I will play AA, I am curious about how the game is at the higher levels but just having the hardest time getting excited about leveling to those levels.
I think in most cases if your heart is really into a game before it releases, getting to a certain level is not the issue. The fact that you still are hung up on the magical 30 number proves without a doubt this game has no calling for you .......if you follow the on rail 1-30 quest hub route @ 30 you'll have 5 gold , a rowboat , a glider , level 18 mount , a set of gear ,a couple of weapons and 60-75 gilda stars ( your fucked ) ....if you start out with a plan and an open mind and play this game like it's a sandbox @ 30 you'll have a house , a boat , couple of farms , a good glider ,150+ gold , crafting well on it's way , a set of gear and few weapons , a solid mount @ level 30+ and ++++++ a good guild of similar minded folks ( you become a winner )
If you came to AA to play a game of power creep quests and lobby sitting LFG dungeons runs ...you are really in the wrong spot and it would be much more advisable for you to play a hand holding game like GW2 ,ESO, Wildstar or the old puppy love #1 WOW

The magical number 30 is a design choice the developers have made. Make no mistake, this is a very popular criticism of the game as it is.
If the first 30 levels are turning off so many people it will become an issue for the longevity of the game. Or do you not want this game to succeed? MMOs need to have players to survive. I don't understand why this is difficult for some people to understand.
He is not attacking the game, he is offering a valid criticism that many others have echoed.

AA started to become like a themepark MMO long before it was scheduled release in the west. Blaming WOW for everything is just silly.
I don't think he's blaming WOW for anything ... I think he might be poking the bear a little when he makes fun of posters that are so uninformed about AA that they actually think quests are something more than a tutorial for the raw recruit

If you have to 'push through to level 30', then perhaps the game developers should reevaluate their game design. It's 2014, man. That's all I have to say.

Why would you start a thread to complain about a game you paid nothing for and only played 1 hr ? And all you had to say about it was, the game is MEH.
What would this site look like if everyone on here did that....
-On this website- with EA trying to promote Strongholds, I would take every negative post about new games with a grain of salt, a very large grain of salt.
Originally posted by magz same tho, tried it for 10 minutes and it felt like i went back to the year 2004 or whatever it just feels so outdated.
That's part of the appeal. Definitely for me.
However, and I know you've all heard this one before, "you have to get to level 30" blah blah blah.
But it's true.
You see, the game isn't necessarily about the quests. I would say that "the game" is about what you do in relation to other players, the crafting, selling, farming, sieges, stealing from others, judging of others in court, pvp, etc.
That's the game.
So if you haven't really experienced that stuff then you haven't really played it yet. If none of that stuff appeal to you then this is not the game for you.
If you are the type of person who says "but the game should grab me from level 1" I would say "sure! Why not!".
But that's not this game.

Id have to agree. I played in the first 2 Betas and its was just, MEH.. I mean the game was pretty, open world and all, but the Towns have no NPC population so they seem barren and not alive and the game as a whole just seems, I dont know.. just Meh.

Also to a poster a few posts above saying they are glad it takes them back to 2004 with being able to grind mobs etc instead of quests. It is nice that is an option but if you are a person that hates to grind mobs then instead of that being an option it now is a deterent to playing.
Also for those who say op has no right to complain since they only played an hour, well op does have that right, he voiced his opinion has to how he thought the game was in that 1 hour. Nothing in his post says anything about how the game is past level 30.
At least you got it to launch, mine is not even launching
And people are saying you gotta redirect folders and mess with registry and stuff...seriously? I shouldnt have to do anything technical for a game thats been released already in two other countries and been through several betas.
And you are 100% sure that on 2 other countries same installation system was used during beta test? or even the client was organized same away? try playing tera eu and tera na and then you will realize what i mean.
