I hope you see the irony....
where is the irony? when we are playing in a game there is really no way to bother someone else.
PVP'ers on the other hand are PVP'ers cuz they want to bother someone else.
There is no irony there....
I'm sorry, the Irony was that PVP'ers want to be left alone so we can have our idea of fun, on a game which in its early stages seems to be aimed at us, and yet, here you are.
I am a PVP'er, and if i wanted to "bother someone else" I'd simply pop into a game forum for a game that, in its early stages seems to be aimed at.... Hummm lets see?? Someone who doesn't have my mindset, off the top of my head lets say PVE'ers for example, and ask that they focus there attention on PVP. If i really wanted to bother people I'd probably start a POLL.

I think that you are thinking like a PVP'er bingo...try thinking like me...a very casual PVE player who just wants an escape from real life when I got online.
Step 1: Get beer
Step 2: Drink Beer
Step 3: Login to game
Step 4: Do a dungon with guildies or something else
Step 5: Be wasted while we do it and wipe alot but laugh the entire time
Step 6: Go explore...the world will seem a tad different intoxicated
Step 7: Get tired, log off and go to sleep
How would this be affected with PVP?
Wake up in the morning
Step 1: Login
Step 2: Grab some mats to either sell or craft stuff
Step 3: help guildies do low level dungeons or build housing/cook food
Step 4: do naked dungeon runs to see how far we can get
Step 5: Laugh more
Step 6: build more stuff for the hell of it
Step 7: Log Off
Again, how would this be effected by PVP? Sidenote you reminded me of good times doing drunked naked pvp runs previous games, we preted it was because we were so good we could pvp naked, but in reality it was because we were really crap playing while drunk, and damage limitation, happy days.
I don't take any game seriously....Im in no competition with anyone...I just want to have fun the way I want...I payed to do that, right? My playstyle is very much so anti-pvp especially since I have a family and kids and my time is always dictated by that, so I get to have my fun less than before.
I too have family and kids, and I don't consider gaming a competition. I appreciate good play and am gratious in defeat, but I also gloat in victory ! Im still struggling to see where you drift off down a path of hateing PVP?
To me, it's not a job or a competition, I compete everyday in the real world and have 0 desire to do it in a game. I also work 50 hours a week and have no desire to continue working when I get home...I want to have fun...that's it...nothing more, nothing less.
Sounds the same, I still struggle to see where a good game you enjoyed playing could be ruined and made unplayable by PVP? And the only reason i continue to respond is because i belive its nothing but a stigma about PVP'ers and defeat at the hands of another player is harder to stomach than simple maths and invisible numbers from a pve encounter.
Edited for; These PVP areas are avoidable when your crafting or gathering simple resourses, or just chewing the fat and having a beer while in voice comms with friends. A well made PVP game is far superior to a simple PVE game, again just my own opinion ;p .
I agree, discussing it on interwebs forum civilly and doing petitions are the right way to voice your opinion, pipe-bombs, trolling and disinformation aren't
Why having server rulesets that way?
1- because the hardcore server ruleset will foster and cater to much different PvP than the optin/optout PvP offered on the normal ruleset;
2- because the two gameplay styles, full PvE and optin/optout PvP, aren't mutually exclusive and can coexist without being detrimental to one another, giving a broader audience more choices on how they play every day on the same server;
3- ultimately, because its all about giving choices to reduce community fragmentation; the broader the server, the less you fragment your community, the more chances it has to be healthy.
Yeah, it all makes sense, Im just always wary when open world PVP is intertwined with PVE (as disconnected from the PVE part as it might be.) PVP'ers are a different breed than PVE'ers...our ideas of fun don't always mix well...they mix more like oil and water :P
Depends on the recipe the devs craft us with these ingredients and the crowd it attracts. Can't wait to see how it will all fall together.
I'm very interested in this game but if my server doesn't have any bears to farm and craft stuff then there's no way I'm playing, because I won't be interested in doing that shit myself.
I simply can't handle mining in EVE, but I understand that someone has to do it or there won't be any spaceship explosions, so I always help out my bear buddies when they need it. I scout them when they're hauling ore or crafted items from one place to another. I fleet up with them so I can go and kill rats hassling their mining ships when i'm plexing nearby. I sit in help and have spent hours teaching newer players how to 'win' if they've been wardec'd in highsec. Care bears make the universe work and I'm certainly not the only one who understands this and helps them out.
If you see a pvp game as you against a slavering horde of assholes intent on taking your shit then you're simply doing it wrong. Games like these don't just encourage the social interactions that make this genre worth playing, they require it. So make some friends and trivialize the dangers, that's it.
Also, if you think you can take a game with a focus on player crafting and item loss through conflict and just port it over to a pve rule set, you're not really thinking it through.
well said!
On the normal servers there is no item loss....not sure what you are talking about.
If all you want to do is kill other players all day, than why are you playing an MMORPG? What the hell does someone wanna be your bitch for? I certainly wouldnt. I like ALL PVE content...I don't just wanna sit in a tent and make stuff for the twitch crowd...no thanks. Go back to CoD where you dont have to build anything or hire more bitches.
No clue what some of you are talking about, but no idea why some of you come to these games and want PVE, you have million of these games.... The people who love a good sandbox, have very limited good ones, so if you make it PVE only, the game is ruined..
What PVP encourages is to play with others, I have stopped playing MMO's because most of you guys want this PVE so you can solo, it blows my mine how many people today are anti social... This ruins MMO's.... Most of you will play a game for 30 days and leave, I have been playing MMO's since UO and Asheron call... I like PVP servers and people think it is about ganking, guess what find a guild that ganks the gankers, we have had a guild now for over 16 years that ganks the gankers. We protect those people, and a great way to build friendship and help...
The issue is though to many want to solo, in an MMO , which again make no sense to play a MMO solo... None... I mean you can shave some solo play but most MMO's today you can solo it all.. or most of it.. Boring as hell!1!!! No interaction = lose players....
PVP is not that big of a deal and most of these games also have great crafting.. If you want easy mode, there are so many games please stop trying to get these games to change to PVE, it would ruin it period!!!

I think the irony he's referencing is that this person wants to be left alone in an MMO.
Anyway, I'm more interested in the highlighted text. Real PVPers want to PVP, not bother people. The people you're referencing are griefers, and they are not the same thing. That's not to say griefers aren't a rampant problem, because I think they are, I just don't think eliminating PVP or coralling it into arenas is the answer.
Actually the developers focused much more on the PVE aspect in the early stages before even bothering with the PVP...
At the very first mention of the question "would there be PVP?" I believe the answer was yes.
If your asking what was mentioned first, environment or PVP, well lets be honest, It would be difficult to focus on anything without an environment? I can't imagine any game maker coming out with a statment like " I'm going to make a game, I have no idea what setting it will be in, space, fantasy, sports or erotic, but it WILL have PVP"
I really hope some of what i've said has at least got some people re-thinking PVP. In reality there is very little diffrence between most MMO players, and the biggest split usually comes down to previous experiences with PVP. I also think many people are looking for a new challenge in here but don't have the ability to meet halfway or try something new.

Translation: Everyone should bow to the lords of PVP.
There is no halfway...when PVP is open world, PVP reigns.
Btw, they didnt just talk about it and it wasn't just landscape and world, it was everything PVE was worked on prior to giving much love to PVP. Probably because PVP is as mindless to program and execute as it is to participate in.
Just because a Player refuses to engage in PvP activities in a MMO does not necessarily mean they "want to be left alone". That's as much a generalization as "all PvPers are Griefers" and that isn't true either.
I am a Non- PvPer in MMOs/MMORPGs for real life religious reasons I won't and can't discuss here (against forum rules). I actually DO play MMOs with other Players on non-PvP servers, I'm in Fellowship (grouped) in LotRO probably 75% or more of the time I play it (just one example). I play MMOs with other Players as much as our current culture allows.
I don't agree that PvP in MMOs/MMORPGs is a "good idea" or should be available ... YET on the other hand .... I won't tell others they are not allowed PvP nor will I try to ask a Dev Team to change a MMO from PvP to something else. I have my beliefs and everyone else has theirs. Fair is fair.
I will never ask anymore or demand all PvP in MMOs be removed because I appreciate that some MMOs and some places in MMOs have areas for Players like me that can't/won't play PvP style. I have gotten what I want and need and I see no reason why the PvP Players shouldn't also get what they want as well. In the past I did ask for some MMOs to be changed to a more non-PvP style and I was wrong to do so.
....
Let the Players that prefer PvP have the game they wish to have. The RePopulation is made for PvP.
I will not sign the petition for the Devs to create a non-PvP server (PvE server). The RePopulation is made for PvP Players.... let the Devs focus their time and attention to making this MMO a great MMO for the Players that prefer PvP. They deserve to be catered to as much as Players that don't like PvP do. It's hard enough to make a great MMO but trying to balance a MMO for both PvP and non-PvP is a nightmare and in the end is bad for all concerned.
I wish the Devs and Players of The RePopulation MMO the best. May it run for years and years and be considered great. May PvP Players absolutely love it.
I don't think you read even 10% of the comments in this post. Or else you would have understood the following:

In the intrest of understanding anti-pvp players, this intrested me.

Let the Players that prefer PvP have the game they wish to have. The RePopulation is made for PvP.
CORRECT!
How is it a PVP MMORPG...I dont even think the devs knew that:
The Repopulation is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. The action takes place on the planet Rhyldan, with the only known remaining human population fighting for their very existence. The indigenous life forms did not meet their colonization efforts with open arms. Worse yet, humans have managed to splinter themselves into warring factions.
It is a sandbox oriented MMORPG with an eye on innovation. Rather than forcing players down preset paths they are instead allowed to walk the path which they enjoy the most. With a variety of combat oriented and non-combat activities to pursue, we believe we’ve created a game that can stand the test of time.

Because they said it is.....
"Beyond the PvE elements available we do offer a lot in the way of PvP gameplay. PvP can range from enjoying combat in the contested regions, doing battle with your faction allies against the other main faction, or enemies as decided on by alliances with other nations in the game. The nation system is one of the core elements of The Repopulation. It can lead to numerous PvP opportunities such as the sieging or defending of cities, or battling for control of vital resources. Independent nations that we refer to as “Rogue Nations” can form their own alliances and become a bastions of peace, or a chaotic group of mercenaries attacking anything on sight."
Well it seems I misunderstood this MMO. Since the first I had heard of this one over a year ago The RePoP was going to be primarily a PvP centric MMO. That was my understanding. I liked much I saw in the emails except I kept getting the distinct impression that PvP was the main focus and non-PvPers like myself would not find it to out liking.
I was apparently wrong.
I rescind my earlier comments. Thanks for calling me on it.
(btw... if two thirds of each server is PvP areas... than this MMO *IS* a PvP MMO by most anyone's definition... but I could be wrong.)
I still will not sign this petition even after rescinding my comments.
After the numerous posts from JC-Smith and Josh Halls on these forums explaining the PvE-PvP dynamics in the game, I'm a bit dumbfounded to see posts like these again.
The landmass in the game is the equivalent of many times what some other games offer; it's as though they had a PvE + a PvP server maps stitched together on the same server. And there is no forced PvP because ALL of the content tier is accessible from PvE-only zones.
I just hope that ALL content is a lot more time consuming to get in PVE zones than it would be in PVP zones, risk vrs reward and all that 'good stuff'.
The upside is that the game will be F2P, so players will be able to try it risk-free, without spending a dime and see if it works for them.
F2P and pay to win, have a very fine line between them in a game thats heavily focused on PVP. I hope they do a good job and look forward to the results!

And you can't explain this due to forum rules? Yet you play LOTRO which has 'monster play' a form of PVP? Most players of LotRO I personally know will not play PvMP at all. We disregard it's existence as a feature for the most part because we play LotRO for th Epic storyline and world quests and to enjoy the virtual Middle Earth of the game. MEO would have been made as a PvP centric MMO, LotRO originally was NOT.PvMP was added content. I am religious myself, and currently work in a very mixed religion work place, and have yet to meet anyone with your unusual religeous rules. Could I ask what religion you are? Then I'm suprised your following an MMO that has no pve servers, esspecially with your strict religious rules. All MMO servers are PvE, some are PvP and some are non-PvP, that is where the distinction lies. I follow this MMO from a far and do not claim in depth knowledge of it, but I follow it because I liked some of what the Devs are doing and in MMOs nowadays "some" is the best we get sometimes.
On a side note... our real life world is very much "PvP centric" but that does not stop me from living in it. Why should a MMO be different?
I will never ask anymore or demand all PvP in MMOs be removed because I appreciate that some MMOs and some places in MMOs have areas for Players like me that can't/won't play PvP style. I'm not convinced I fully understand why your in this thread. Because I saw/understood this Thread was asking for a non-PvP server in a MMO that I mistakenly believed to be a PvP centric MMO, and I feel if a MMO is designed to be PvP centric it should remain PvP centric and not have "added content inserted". That kind of thing can muck up the works so to speak. I have since been informed that this MMO is not a PvP centric MMO by the Original Poster, so if RP is not a PvP centric MMO than my post was a waste of time, and my concern for this MMO. I will not play it but I also don't want to see it messed up by shifting focus back and forth between design goals.

when they say "beyond PVE" that pretty much puts into perspective that that is first and foremost or else it would have said "Beyond PVP"
I answered some of your questions as much as I dare to.
Ok fair enough. I hope your allowed to play the game, or find something more suitable to follow.
Again to the OP;

How would the sieging of cities, and battling for control of vital resourses be done in a PVE world?
If I was the leader of the first clan to claim a city, how would you remove me from power in a PVE world?
If you claimed your own Independant nation, what would be the point in your pve world?
Rogue nations and forming alliences, why bother in your PVE world?
All these things are described as "Core Elements" In a game you claim to know alot about? Please explain your version of how this will work out for the games improvment.
I'm starting a petition to deny this petition to prevent the devs from wasting precious time and resources on this self-centered entitlement.
It'd be like asking CCP to make a purely PvE server - ludicrous. Stop trying to change game's core vision design.
I do understand your desire and love a good PvE sandbox, but it doesn't mean that every game should exclude PvP as its core.
yay, another person refusing to pay attention to everything I say.
1 server is already deemed Hardcore PVP server
The other is named "Normal" Server.
Normal has open PVP...if they are willing to make 2 servers, why not make 3? 1 without the open pvp?
Im not asking the devs to change their vision...their vision is make an all encompassing game that features everything, not just one thing.
So you admit The RePopulation is a PvP centric MMO?
I am paying attention to what you say.
If a MMO's ingame virtual world is two thirds PvP zones then there is no reasonable way anyone can argue that the MMO in question is not infact a PvP MMO. The 2/3's comment was yours.
The Dev's have categorized the open PvP server as "NORMAL". That's MMO speak for PvP centric if I ever heard it. Very illuminating.
Some of my knowledge may have been off, but in general I was right..... What you want to do is petition the Devs to attempt to force/coerce them to change RP by altering it's intended design goals to accommodate your preferred gameplay style.
Not Cool. It's made for PvP Players primarily so let them have it. It's not made for you and I and any attempt to change it now will cause problems with the game itself longterm.

Nah, that was actually a piece of misinformation by me that I fixed in later posts. It's 2/3 PVE and only 1/3 PVP (for the rogue factions)

Your "Normal server" is about as dumb as me asking for a violence free version of 'mortal combat'. Or complaining that 'need for speed' should have a version without cars. You have found a game that is, at its very core, the wrong game for you, and started an online petition?
The games CORE is about control of land and resourses, and building rogue nations then changing your diplomacy with others. It states chaotic bands of mercenarys will roam, blah blah.... In fact I can't even be arsed typing to you any longer, your either deluded, a troll, or some form of company advertisment via controversy.....
Its clear now that if you truley beleive this your so incredibly dumb you won't understand no-matter what I say or trolling. Your petition will fail, you are a lost cause. Good luck and happy trolling, advertising, or being insane.

Actually the developers focused much more on the PVE aspect in the early stages before even bothering with the PVP...
How would this be affected with PVP?
Again, how would this be effected by PVP? Sidenote you reminded me of good times doing drunked naked pvp runs previous games, we preted it was because we were so good we could pvp naked, but in reality it was because we were really crap playing while drunk, and damage limitation, happy days.
I too have family and kids, and I don't consider gaming a competition. I appreciate good play and am gratious in defeat, but I also gloat in victory ! Im still struggling to see where you drift off down a path of hateing PVP?
Sounds the same, I still struggle to see where a good game you enjoyed playing could be ruined and made unplayable by PVP? And the only reason i continue to respond is because i belive its nothing but a stigma about PVP'ers and defeat at the hands of another player is harder to stomach than simple maths and invisible numbers from a pve encounter.
Edited for; These PVP areas are avoidable when your crafting or gathering simple resourses, or just chewing the fat and having a beer while in voice comms with friends. A well made PVP game is far superior to a simple PVE game, again just my own opinion ;p .
Depends on the recipe the devs craft us with these ingredients and the crowd it attracts. Can't wait to see how it will all fall together.
That's not to say griefers aren't a rampant problem, because I think they are, I just don't think eliminating PVP or coralling it into arenas is the answer.
post rescinded.
I don't think you read even 10% of the comments in this post. Or else you would have understood the following:
1. The Repopulation is NOT a PVP focused game
2. There will be a Hardcore PVP server
3. The normal server will be 2/3 PVE and 1/3 PVP
In the intrest of understanding anti-pvp players, this intrested me.
In the intrest of sanity, i ignored the above. You are from a religion that (while allowing you to play video games) does not allow you to play PVP servers? And you can't explain this due to forum rules? Yet you play LOTRO which has 'monster play' a form of PVP? I am religious myself, and currently work in a very mixed religion work place, and have yet to meet anyone with your unusual religeous rules. Could I ask what religion you are? Or is it against forum rules?
Then I'm suprised your following an MMO that has no pve servers, esspecially with your strict religious rules.
I'm not convinced I fully understand why your in this thread.
CORRECT!
I am trying very hard to assume the best from people in this thread. So on that note, I agree with you! Have a nice day and I really hope your god's embrace PVP with open arms and you'd be welcome to join my clan of happy murderers any day of the week

Bingo.
How is it a PVP MMORPG...I dont even think the devs knew that:
This +1
Hell no I'm not going to sign for a themepark server in one of the few sandbox MMOs
NOT EVERY GAME NEEDS TO CATER TO YOU, THERE ARE ENOUGH OTHERS TO CHOOSE FROM
I just hope that ALL content is a lot more time consuming to get in PVE zones than it would be in PVP zones, risk vrs reward and all that 'good stuff'.
F2P and pay to win, have a very fine line between them in a game thats heavily focused on PVP. I hope they do a good job and look forward to the results!
I'll sign this as well. The madness has to be stopped!

when they say "beyond PVE" that pretty much puts into perspective that that is first and foremost or else it would have said "Beyond PVP"
yay, another person refusing to pay attention to everything I say.
Ok fair enough. I hope your allowed to play the game, or find something more suitable to follow.
Again to the OP;
"Beyond the PvE elements available we do offer a lot in the way of PvP gameplay.
