Pretty much yeah? There's just no point in complaining about something that is so easily managed. Block people on game, if that doesn't work, change channels or make new ones, if that doesn't work try a new server, if that doesn't work try a new game. But honestly blocking 1-2 clowns should be enough
Pretty sure blocking a few people will not work for him as most of the chat I've seen spread across several servers is like this. All you can really do is turn off the main chat channels and just chat with your guild which works but takes a lot of the potential social element out of the game. But people are right all highly populated MMOs lately seem to be like this these . I've been online for over 20 years now and it seems like the average person on the internet gets stupider and less amusing every year. I mean you still get people repeating the same Chuck Norris jokes they heard in 2004 and thinking they're hilarious and the trolls pretending to be racist/sexist in chat all day to make their 5 equally moronic buddies laugh.
It's just sad...
Woah woah woah there pal....Chuck Norris jokes never get old...he really does have a fist in his beard.
General chat has been poison in games for many years. its something that needs to be removed.
A game called silk road did it pretty good, you had to buy a item from the cash shop that cost 1$ to do a general chat to the entire server. One sentence for 1 dollar.

This is more like it. I am right there with you. I just don't want to hear the spew anymore or put up with attention mongers. Sometimes the world chat in LotRO gets really annoying. It's not vulgar like you mention, but it still gets to be too much drama on occasion.
Same here, I just make sure to turn off global or create channels, for tells, group etc.. Net toughtalk makes my eyes gloss over out of boredom.

Ok I see some words being use here we see in those chats "kids". This is the classic little name calling lol. But when it comes to things like gay or kids and sex.. this does not happen in the big named sub's. You can say it ..you just get banned fast.
But Free To Play some have it not all free to play. You play a f2p that has a RP server.. you are asking for it then.
Yet we see people for what they really are.
ArcheAge.. free to play.. then give you extras if you pay? Sure always someone will bite at that and tell you OMG its such a deal!
Face it..if your one that has been around since EQ.. it will never be the same. Those days are gone. World of Warcraft was and still is the best of any mmo. They too like the rest are slowly giving in to simple and easy.
I would rather PAY then play a free to play. Me..I dont go to play alone yet what you get in f2p is just awful. The things that are aloud to be said now days.. is just shocking.
When you have to turn off chat.. like playing PS4 Destiny. If you play then you see all those people and.. AWESOME chat going on huh! haha.. none. When your ignore chat is in the hundreds..
I think the 'bad chat' channels is something that is often inherent within F2P PVP games, its not a new thing, just look at Global Agenda, a game that has pretty much disappeared into oblivion now, but it had some of the most toxic chat of any game ever, some have quoted WoW as having toxic chat, something i can't say i've ever experienced in all the years i've played WoW, but given that i've only played on the Euro servers, that may be the reason, so possibly NA servers are different?
But i don't think its because a game is PVP focused specifically, one thing i found in DF;UW was that the chat there was very far from toxic, i think the worst thing i heard someone being called there, was a 'noob' and even then it was probably more of a joke. I think with the addition of F2P to PVP games, there is a lack of accountability, so some types feel they can say or do whatever the hell they feel like.
well aint playing on the US servers, but the EU server Im on hardly have any of that sort of chat at all - ofc I cant find it better that the english speaking on the server just complaint about people using other languages, how in the world someone think they get anything good out of demanding other people to speak a certain language is just weird to me (I dont understand french meself, which is the complained about language on the server).
but no "shit talk" at all that Ive seen...but Trion is really terrible at handling gold spam, havent seen gold spam so bad since Knight online really - so the guy with the chars yelling BR! and Pinoy! have it right for this game p

I dont think it has anything to do with age.
Bad chat is bad chat. Shame there aren't gm's to remove it.
You bring up a good point that i often forget about.
Back in my old school FFXI days, you'd get a 3 day ban for cursing or being abusive in general chat. Get 3 of those and your account was terminated permanently. This was possible because we actually had GM's in game responding to calls usually within 30 min.
I don't remember the last MMO i played when a GM would actually show up on his super awesome GM character and toss people in jail or blow them up.
I don't think it's just F2P, but it's more prevalent in them. It's more the internet itself. It gives people a sense of anonymity that allows them to say whatever without consequence.
Someone said it pretty accurately earlier. In sub games you don't encounter explicit language as much in chat because a GM will do something about it if its reported. The problem with F2P games is they have to make cuts somewhere to build revenue, and in most F2P games that's customer service. So they can't constantly monitor and/or respond to stuff until 1-2+ weeks in most games because the staff isn't large enough to handle it. So "you get what you pay for."
I finally logged into Archeage and...Oh my, the chat. Full of jokes about homosexuals and "your mother sucked my enchanted staff." I don't have much experience with FTP titles, is this what they're all like? Constant chatter by 12-year-olds? Ugh.
I've got two characters - one Firran and one Hirani. I've logged in with them at different times of the day, and the Hirani chat is consistently offensive, whereas I find the Firran chat far more civil.
Dont Firran and Hirrani share the same faction chat ? just sayin.
I finally logged into Archeage and...Oh my, the chat. Full of jokes about homosexuals and "your mother sucked my enchanted staff." I don't have much experience with FTP titles, is this what they're all like? Constant chatter by 12-year-olds? Ugh.
Why do you specifically target F2P people? The servers are full of both free amd patrons. At least in the two servers i play (Enla and Ezi) patrons with the same behavior and on top of that bitching, whining, and being racists about Brazilians.
So yeah.... you might want to generalize a bit more. Subscribers can be as immature as everyone else.
I just want to ask you this : why is that brazilian gamers have to join a serve specifically "English" tagged and constantly spam portuguese? And why am i a racist for telling them to stop spamming chat in portuguese? I join a "english" tagged server because i want to communicate with others in english not portuguese or spanish or french or any other language for that matter, not even my own language. If brazilians are being told to not spam chat it is simply because they are spamming, not because i am racist.
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
I finally logged into Archeage and...Oh my, the chat. Full of jokes about homosexuals and "your mother sucked my enchanted staff." I don't have much experience with FTP titles, is this what they're all like? Constant chatter by 12-year-olds? Ugh.
As other posters have pointed out, it's by no means restricted to this game. From day one I switched the chat channels off when playing Tera as they where full of Elin obscene filth.
So doesn't surprise me at all.
Whether it's the free to play model? That may make things worse, but p2p games still suffer this.
Sadly I agree the chat is horrid with porn, nazi talk and other crap most of the times.
Eventually it dries up but it's definitely annoying.
Tough this is not exclusive to F2P games, even P2P games have toxic chats. (Only exclusion I could think of from the recent released was FFXIV. That community is very friendly)

Because there are no Portuguese servers. There are no English servers, either, because AA doesn't have language tags for servers.
Yes, chat sucks alot of times but all this years i have been playing mmorpgs i learn to ignore most part. And no i dont turn chat off unless gold spam is to much. Trolls or not, i like to know what is hapening in chat.
But yes, sometimes is disgusting, moderators should work more to keep the chat healthy.
For me community is really important in an mmo and given this is an mmo which is pvp centric I did suspect the community may not be that great sadly . But even I didn't expect the amount of racism going on in the general chat . Also something happened to a friend last night . He was trying to gather things on his farm and several members of a same faction guild came upto him and started bumping into him so he couldn't farm his mats and if he got up on this mount they would jump on the back of it . While I know it was probably kids its all left quite a bad impression on me .
Although this is a side issue the community has effected my decision to defer upgrading my graphics card until later next year . I had been thinking about upgrading this because I knew given the open world battles that I would need a beast of a card to be able to play them . A friend of mine with an Nvidea 680 is already noticing low fps in battles so I think it would have to be the 780 to stand a chance of enjoying the large scale pvp I would happily have payed the price of it but to be honest I would only be doing so to play Archeage and from what I have seen of the community I am pretty uncertain if its a game for me .
Anyway theres the Rift expansion out soon and I brought a lot of issues in the sale on DC Universe a few weeks back so its not that I don't have a lot to do . Also I want to see SWTOR is like and maybe even STO . Theres a lot to keep me occupied .
Yes, it is possible, though mainly in sub games. Having a global chat for premium only fixes this somewhat. Stupid trolls shut up real quick if you hand out 1 day bans for offensive language, spam or constantly posting in a foreign language. As an example, Fallen Earth's chat was great when it was moderated.
Also, I think that games should have custom channels for portugese, russian and french and assign players there based on IP, with an option to leave them. Other language minorities can create their own chat channels it seems.

I don't know, maybe I unfairly assumed what I was seeing was a consequence of FTP. I've played LOTRO for years, mainly after it went FTP, and the GLFF/world chat I've encountered there has been mostly civil. Certainly no horrible insults and slurs flying there. Maybe it's the IP drawing a more mature crowd. Maybe Archeage is particularly bad because of the FTP/PvP combination. Whatever it is, I'm disappointed so far because community and chatting is a big part of an MMO to me. I hate to turn off main chat channels to avoid the crap, but if I'm going to enjoy the game, I guess that's what I'll have to do. Hopefully I'll have someone to chat with when I join a guild.
This can't be blamed on the AA team or Trion, or even the "community". There has always been unpleasant chat that is disgusting or hateful. It happens in every online community, and that's due to the anonymity of people on the internet. I remember it was the same back in the late 90's, when i first started playing online FPS games when i was a teen. lol.
It's easier to monitor on a forum such as this, since it's smaller, but it's nearly impossible to monitor a persistent virtual world, especially in the first few days of it's launch, where hundreds of thousands of lines are being typed continuously.
Could the tools be better to counter it? Sure, but the features such as ignore and filters do the job good enough. It's best to just turn off the specific zone chat too. I recently had to do this in another MMO, when people were talking about body parts and other vile things.
I just don't buy the argument that it's a F2P thing either. It happens in sub-based MMOs all the time.

Between the trolls and stupid gold seller spam, I turned off the that channel before even moving onto the 1st quest NPC. It was bad in Alpha (but not as bad as now) too, so you can't blame FTP players.
It's not so much the games, society is who to blame here. Games were not like this around earlier MMO days, hell people were a lot nicer in general. Unfortunately there will always be a few bad eggs in the mix, just hope they get thrown out soon.

Plenty of other games do it, or at least draw boundaries between what's acceptable and what's not. You can ban people who spout Nazi/racist talk, or who use slurs about other people. If the chat is filled with people doing this it's a sign that there is no adult in charge, so to speak, and it sets a tone.
Basically, the tone of the global chat is a decision by Trion that it's not worth monitoring it - not that it can't be done.
I finally logged into Archeage and...Oh my, the chat. Full of jokes about homosexuals and "your mother sucked my enchanted staff." I don't have much experience with FTP titles, is this what they're all like? Constant chatter by 12-year-olds? Ugh.
Lol blaming a lousy coumminty on f2p doesn't fly anymore. And this game also a has a patron statues. Every mmo post wow has communties like this. This generation of gamer's grew up on the internet. Where anyone can post anything without fear because they are unknown. You might as well quit playing online games if this bothers you. But i have always said it would be great if you could turn chat off. And when you add open world pvp to any mmo,you are going to get lowest type of people playing your game. I can't even count how many post i've seen on other game sites from people posting what they hope they can do to other players in this game. You have players who live to ruin other player's game time. Its the only reason they play.

Yeah. I asked a simple question in faction. I'm not kidding here: the one reply I got said "the best way to do that is to fuck yourself. Vigorously."
This is the first game I've played where guild recruiters are throwing out insults in between spamming their guild info.
Truly charming. I'd better get out of faction chat, or it's going to kill the game for me in no time.
