I played both, while Planetside was really fun, ESO fixed a lot of those problems. I like they are confronted because the pvp is very similar, both fun.
Originally posted by Akumawraith bleh, how the hell is ESO beating Planetside 2? With all the complaints of bugs, glitches, broken quests, and other crap so many players probably voted for ESO only because they never played Planetside 2. What a bad matchup...
And damn its good to see WoW crash and burning.. get it off the list and good riddance! I cannot believe it made it to this level as crappy and dumbed down that game has become.
Its not winning because its better but rather because more people here have played ESO than PS2.

Lol, DDO is the best game. It's the most complex game I've ever played. So much replayability and so much fun (you can reach lvl cap and reincarnate to different class or race and after each life you become more powerful). It's 100% free game, you can unlock all the stuff while playing that game. It's both - the best and 100% free. Don't believe me? Join Orien server, mail to Robai and I'll explain more if interested.
Interesting find. Curious why so many new accounts with low post counts are popping up? Also fascinating how the same IP matches up with other accounts. Why the need to support your point with another account? This is a different methodology to same the problematic issues when pirate 101 won. Its sad to see people resort to this on here and yes you know damn well who you are.
Case in point see above and there are many others that fit the bill. Your argument loses all merit who you can't man up.

BEST MASIVE ONLINE GAME WITH HIGH ACTION AND CUSTOMIZATION IS APB:RELOADED. ANYTHING ELSE AVAILABLE TODAY IS JUNK! Only problem is NO custom flat or apartment and the genre should be more in line with Shadowrun (cyberpunk). STILL WAITING FOR A DEVELOPER TO GET THEIR HEAD OUT OF THEIR THIRD POINT OF CONTACT AND MAKE THE F-----IN GAME!
When I first played LOTRO it was in beta... it was the first MMO where birds flew away from me and fluttered around into trees. Then the next thing I notice is there's like 10 people standing around playing instruments having a grand time. It reminded me of SWG. The group events were great too as were the interesting classes. LOTRO is a great game (played it for a small stent because of school then went back when it was F2P for a bit). I really think it should beat WoW in terms of community engagement and immersion, but time will tell.
ESO is what I'm playing now, but I think DDO had the most interesting group play and customization of the bunch except for EVE. You can't really "outcustomize" EVE lol. I'd be okay if ESO, TSW, LOTRO, or EVE fight with each other. All four games are very different from each other in terms of design strategy and both do what they seek to do very well.
I'm rooting for ESO all the way though. If ESO would be out as long as any of the veterans and continue at their current rate it would have WAY more interesting features than any of them. Justice system coming, revamped champion system, they'll have spellcrafting and imperial city out all within a year or two I'd say. What else do they have in store? No idea. Player housing probably.
A year or two? More like a few months. I think all of those features will be fully implemented by the time their next Quake-con conference hits, hell, probably even one of the new zones they talked about (fingers crossed for Wrothgar). As for player housing, they've said on numerous occassions that they really wanna do it, but they want to take their time with it, so that when it does come out it'll be awesome and unique, not half-assed and mediocre.
For me, Eve really is the winner here.. no other game has presented a true sandbox world like Eve does.. Its single shard universe gives a player a sense of really being part of that world.
its also a very hardcore game..WOW and other cartoony mmo's have a child like protective feel. and im just not into that.
Originally posted by dreamscaper I can't believe WoW is currently losing to LotRO. I really enjoyed LotRO up through Moria, but the quality of the game nosedived after that. In their current incarnations WoW is definitely the better game, by a significant margin.
Keep in mind that the vote is Best MMO of 2014. Despite it's massive amount of current subscriptions, WoW has become so dumbed down that it simply does not have any respect anymore. It was once a brilliant game and dominated without peer for a decade, but even the most avid WoW supporters are starting to get sick of it. I have a friend who still plays and he is bored with the Xpac already. He says everything is handed to everyone on a Silver platter these days. He even said there is no point in mining ore anymore because you can have your own ore nodes. It's just watered down and too easy.
I'm surprised Archeage failed. Can anyone please tell me what was wrong with it? I took a look at their game page; I'm tempted to try it, but the races are kind of boring-looking.
Can anyone explain me all this hate toward GW2 on this website?
I used to play a lot of GW2, and even if I don't plkay it anymore, it was among the best MMORPG I ever played.
Pro
- Uniques Classes : Each classe has a very distinct play style. Unlike Wildstar where each classe played the same. (Loved engineer and Necro)
- No trinity.
- Action combat. I saw some hate directed toward it, but I don't get it. It's probably the best combat with Tera. Winning fights wasn't static and dull, it was all about timing, knowledge, strategy ect.. I felt like played a chest match : When to use dodge, when to block ect..
- Server Technology : Overflow server, Live update, no down time, Big ass fight with no lag (after the culling bug got resolved)
- Fast leveling, dynamic event, fast action dungeon. I never been a PvE guy, but I rolled Fractal so many time and Liked it. It was challenging and fun!
Sure it's not just about me, but even If I don't like the game type of EVE, I can reconize how it can be fun. I don't get why people attack GW2 like this. Maybe because it didn't follow the same patch as GW1?
I'm surprised Archeage failed. Can anyone please tell me what was wrong with it? I took a look at their game page; I'm tempted to try it, but the races are kind of boring-looking.
Well I was really looking forward this game. I played it for about a month.
I really liked the concept, the way trading and pirating worked. The way you could build so many kind of classes, the many unique mechanism.
What caused me to stop :
- Hacking. So much hacking, everything was hacked. It was horrible. Archeage has way too many thing on the client side, making it easy to hack.
- Technical issue. There was a lot of technical issue. Issue with purchase, issue with lag (I lagged for a month for no reason, then it stopped) ect..
- Combat : 90s want there combat system back. I think it depend of people, but I dislike static combat ala FF14. Not only this, but combat was all about CC. So many kind of CC with cc breaker that would only cancel some of them. One of the best class was a DaggerSpell, who relied on landing 1 hard CC to then combo people from 100 to 0 in 2 sec.
- Balance : Might not have been there fault, but with 120 possible classes, balance was really hard. Many classes were not viable because some skills were vital to survive.
- Housing : If you wanted a house and joined the game late, it was impossible.
- Water Fighting : I really didn't like this. It was buggy, fighting on ship you always had lack of sight issue.
- Gear Progression : PvP was 10% about skill, 40% about classes/build, and 50% about Gear. Gear could make such a huge different, it was crazy. When the average player has 10k hp, and you encounter a player with 18k hp, that sucks.
- Grinding, so grindy.
- Trion/Asian port : We couldn't really ask any change, because Trion the publisher couldn't do anything.
That's about it. I loved it for the firsts weeks, then hated it. Especially after becoming pirate, that was the worse decision!
LotRO is a bit underrated, I agree. Huge world, faithfully rendered, great community. Graphically quite beautiful in places, with nice DX11 effects, though dated compared to something like ESO in that dept.
F2P though, hurt them a bit in my opinion, with too much emphasis on store items, and easifying much of the game. But it's still just an awesomely varied and fun MMO.
Lotro is in pretty bad shape now. Use to be much better. The game has bad performance issues: lag in raids and PvMP, and it runs quite badly on some high end PC. They did not optimize it well over the last few years. This led to many players leaving. Also: company had layoffs, hardly any new content coming out, population very low on almost all servers now, the company completely stopped making expansions, raids or traditional instances. Beautiful world, but the game is in bad shape now. The loot system is terrible now since they changed it. Game has major problems.
I would never recommend this game to anyone starting a new MMO because game play, combat and basic features (like AH) are all substandard. Only worth it if you want to see the world, or Moria.
Originally posted by Alber_gamer Seeing that the most probable final between "newbies" is Guild Wars 2 vs ESO shows the sad, sad state in which the mmo industry currently is. It's just depressing to see that so mediocre games are what we have to settle for.

GW2 hater explain me.
I can think of at least 10 reasons GW2 was terrible both before it started and after it released, and why it's particularly fun and special to clown it in these forums, but I won't in this thread because it would be off topic. If you like it, play it, that's all that matters.
ESO will win this for sure. It's not because it's the "Best MMO" because it's not. It's because it's the MMO with "most potential" above current MMOs. ONE PIECE REFERENCE: It's like Luffy (the rookie pirate) destined to surpass Gol. D Roger (World of Warcraft). IT may not win this contest this year, but eventually it will catch on.
It'll be a sight to see how those who deemed it going "F2P soon" and labeled it a horrible game will react in a year when they finally realize the hidden promise within the game.

The most disappointing thing I see there (besides hacking/botting) would be the housing; I guess they only provided a limited number of spaces for it, or something?
Also, the combat. I've gotten used to blocking, dodging, circle-kiting, and a few other small class-based tricks in first-person view in ESO, and have a hard time going back to WoW, or running a stater character in both STO and SWTOR (both of which seem OK from what I've played of them, I'm just having a hard time tab targeting in third person any more. 5 years of WoW training down the drain, I guess.)
I didn't check much the forum on mmorpg until lately, and I didn't know GW2 was hated.
It just surprise me, as it didn't give me false hope or anything, wasn't forcing you in a free2win grab your cash strat or any other reason that make you hate a game.

Yeah that was one of the worse thing for me.
I was coming from ESO and GW2, and going back to doing nothing except spell rotations killed it for me.
And yeah, the lack of free space killed the housing for me. Especially since Hacker/Gold spammer would auto buy free terrain before anyone could get them.
