The MMORPG genre is in a very, very sad state. I mean, D&D; LotRO; The Secret World... they're all games which I've played and enjoyed. But them making it to the quarter finals of any "best of" contest is just sad.

Especially when you consider that all three games have been 'circling the rim' for a while now, if it wasn't for Eve Online being in the top group, which, as its very much a 'niche' game you kind of have to wonder how that won too, you'd think the title of the competition would be 'most likely to announce closure in 2015'

And so the snarking begins... Please refer to the "sour grapes" image earlier in the thread.
I can't comment about the others, but LotRO is definitely in "Circling The Rim" territory. It's contract is up at some point in 2017, and no one is realistically expecting a renewal- the game might even be shutting down in 2015 considering how bad things are going there.

But go LotRO! You beat WoW!
On Steam, LotRO's Players online average and hours played are about 50% higher than TESO's. So it's not dead yet. The 2017 licensing is with The Saul Zaentz Compaany, which owns the original use agreement Tolkien himself made with United Artists in 1968. There are no problems between LotRO and The Saul Zaentz Company; the agreement has been extended before without problems and no reason to think otherwise.
The SZ Company and Tolkien's son are suing each other over what the original rights meant since the internet was not a thang in 1968.

That's what people said last time their were renewing their license. And some time before that also. So far no problems so I don't understand why people keep on bringing this bs.

For some people it doesn't matter what the other game is. If WoW is up there, they're going to vote against it.
If WoW really has 10M subs and more non-subscribed fans, which is more than many mmos put together, then it shouldn't matter how many haters are on the site. WoW should win handily. How could it not?
Because Walmart and McDonalds sells more product than it's competition by a huge margin, but that is not indicative of quality and therefore should not win a competition in a proper world. Unfortunately, easy, quick and cheap tend to win out and we don't live in a perfect world.
I've played around 22 MMO's since UO, EQ, AC, DAoC days to include every one of them on the voting segment. Of all the MMO's I have played, I have to say that nothing has given me more joy than EQ and a follow up would be ESO.
I have played every TES game since the days when I first played TES: Arena back in '94. Hell, I was raised a few miles from the office in Bethesda/Rockville.
ESO is and has been a quality product that's improving with massive leaps and when update 6 finalizes, it will only improve much further. The fixes and advancements and innovations they have made since beta has made this game one with a real future when compared to the other games on the list.
Just about every bug people (and myself) have complained about so far has been fixed. The additions they've given have been monumental. They also seem to maintain a heavy subscriber base to maintain this and I won't be leaving for any other game anytime soon.
Just look at the other comments about it on here, as well as the voting ratio. The game speaks for itself. I can't stress that enough.
I second all you have say about ESO.It is a wonderfull game and the thing is,damn!! it keeps getting better in such short amounts of time. The game totally went victim of very unfair reviews.

While having little issues with the game myself, the early reviews were indeed fair based upon the state of the game at the time and the lack of any real end game. That being said, perhaps new reviews are in order. I wonder if all those negative reviews from people would really change or are there previous issues to ingrained into their opinion of the game.

Because DD players are creating multiple accounts on mmorpg.com . This has nothing to do with real situation

LOTR is a far better mmoRPG than WOW and has respect for its own Lore and RP player base. WOW is really a small hop and a skip away from being a coorg/pure lobby game now and this competition was about mmorpg's.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

99% of ESO's population isn't on Steam as that version came out months after release, so you have to take that into account.
I would be interested in how a poll like this would turn out if the games actually had been paired with some sort of logic. placing DDO with GW was not even fair for either game as they both have great features and gameplay. we all know WOW is going to be the top winner of all MMORPG so that is not an issue....only the red headed step child MMORPG's that will never get the recognition they deserve.

thank you for the warm welcome.
I am enjoying reading the threads here, this seems like a nice place.
Ummm, it just got knocked out...
Darn it, I missed the vote on this one!
