This. I actually like both games quite a bit and play both depending on mood.
I said something reasonable on the internet and someone agreed with me. Faith in humanity restored! (thanks)
These are internet forums. We don't need this crap going on. You two take it somewhere else.

I wasn't hating on GW2. I figured someone might come back and say "well yeah, but we got pink unicorn mounts for christmas, nyaaah" or something. I don't know much about GW2, but I think they don't have killer clowns, and I'll always take killer clowns over pink unicorns. But if they had killer clowns, I might have to go check them out, yannow?
Oh that wasn't a response on your post because... killer clowns are awesome!
Actually WoW is the only one that haven't tweeted or made a post about the voting on Facebook as i have seen. I found this from ESO and Lotro, but wow haven't made it known... :P
Lotro has a better storyline (lol @ anybody debating that), immersion aspects are better, community is far more mature, brings new content on a decent pace and it's F2P.
The gameplay isn't bad, the crafting system is more than decent, the graphics are more than decent compared to WoW. Dungeons used to be challenging, only t2 instances are somewhat challenging.

Agree that Lotro has a LOT of merit--but dear god--did you just list F2P as a PLUS?????
Have you played it before and after the F2P cancer came along? F2P is what's ruined it!
If mmorpg.com had a recruiting drive, it couldn't possibly have done better than having TSW vs. GW2... which, coincidentally (wink), have been the #1 and #2 top voted MMOs here for many months.
Welcome ya'll!

Not anymore... I'd never heard of Smite until it nabbed the top spot.

Yeah. I smell a campaign.
That happens sometimes with newly released games when they get a lot of positive votes at first. But Smite has been around for a while so it looks more like a coordinated campaign... that too will pass and TSW and GW2 will be back on top soon.

Smite is a game which apparently involves settling theological disputes by deathmatching Gods. As already stated it is neither an MMO game nor an RPG on most people's understanding of those terms.
[EDIT: "as already stated" referred to a post which got deleted]
If you've played TSW you will recognise the names of some of the Mayan deities they've added -- presumably these were chosen instead of the Aztec pantheon as having names that are easier to pronounce -- imagine trying to say "Tezcatlipoca" or "Huizilpochtli" when yelling over voice comms.

I'm an avid GW2 player and I hate WoW, but nothing can beat WoW when you look objectively and look at the features of each game.
I'm not sure I agree with this statement. Features don't make a game. Playability makes a game. Static questing to level alone would make me not play WoW, which doesn't make it a better game...for me. The graphics in WoW are too cartoony for my taste. Again, I'm not saying it's a bad game and I'm not saying I hate it (because I don't), but you can't judge something better objectively. Active combat, to me, is objectively better than static combat. Dynamic events, to me, is objectively better than static quests. The use of add-ons which promote elitism is something I gladly left behind.
Some of the features of WoW are the very reason I feel Guild Wars 2 is a better game.

I honestly don't see how so many people can like Eve. I tried it and hated it more than I hated the WoW cataclysm changes that finally drove me away from WoW after that expansion was released. Way too much time wasted travelling to the different sectors when you only have a short time to put into the game. Think I spent something like 30 minutes getting to where it wanted me to go on Eve when I had 45 minutes or so to play last time I tried Eve. When you have very limited time to play DDO, LOTRO, STO and WoW all at least had stuff you could complete in the time frame and not spend most of your playtime in transit. But that is just my opinion of the game. I do know a few friends that liked Eve. I just don't see why myself.
Shame DDO is loosing its a great game. And how WoW is winning lotro is beyond me I play both but I presume WoW wont win cos nto many kids who play are on here voting ?

I think it's more a case of SMITE doesn't actually have that big a following on this site; it rarely gets comments on articles about god reveals, has few forum threads -- and so it only recenrly gathered enough votes to appear at all, most of which were from fans giving it 9 or 10. When it suddenly appeared at the top of "released games" that was based on a little over 20 votes as against ~1k for the top two (1241 for GW and 933 for TSW when I checked just now).
Guessing TSW is getting quite desperate if they're bringing in guilds and creating different accounts just to get at first. Oh well they need it more. But well at least is not as bad as ESO'S desperation, i mean they are using every single forum they have to this.

So what? It's about the best MMORPG of 2014.
Lotro has a better storyline (lol @ anybody debating that), immersion aspects are better, community is far more mature, brings new content on a decent pace and it's F2P.

Lotro for the win.
Lotro is beating WoW and TSW is beating GW2
If PS2 would beat ESO this would be the perfect list for me!

I have made an NCAA-style bracket of the competition so far:

i'm expecting EVE to be the winner for Veteran
final contest will likely be LOTRO vs EVE
and possibly ESO vs TSW for newcomer
