Now then, where are all the people that white knighted this game back in beta and reported a bunch of us saying negative things about the game and why it would not be a subscription game faster than SWTOR went F2P?
At some point, you would think that SOME people would learn to stop and maybe listen to others comments and perhaps get on board with trying to make a developer see what is wrong with their game while in beta instead of blindly defending and allowing another bland craptastic game be made.
I once again point to the quote in my sig about how white knights ruin more games than anything else. You make it possible for developers to think nothing is wrong only to find out too late that there is a LOT wrong.
Nonsense.
What really was wrong with the game at launch? There were connectivity issues, large initial player base caused quest issues, crashes yadda yadda yadda. That's par for the course for most mmo's. Someone pointing this out is not a "white knight" but just pointing out that "obvious is obvious".
The issues that could have led to Zenimax not getting the playerbase they wanted might point more to their initial design. But again, just because someone likes their initial design (which for the record I did not) doesn't make them a white knight.
The problem with you and those like you is that anyone with a different opinion and one on the positive side is called "a white knight". As opposed to the incessant crying and ranting that comes from another gamer demographic.
There are people who love the current ESO design. They aren't white knights they just have a different opinion than you.
The initial issues were a shame but they all got fixed like many said they would.

Quite often people will respond to a finger pointing (white knight, fanboy, etc.) grossly exaggerated posting style in kind.
I think that's where you get confused.
What you see as white knighting a game is usually just a personal attack on someone perceived as a troll.

Agh this is disappointing, I like the idea in a game that every in game asset has been earned through play, now I either sub and grg money and xp bonuses etc I dont want or I don't sub and gradually fall behind everyone. Damn shame.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
100% for sure you pay for the game and get ALL ..ALL of it's content? That means NO cash shop selling items that can only be had in cash shop?
I think what that means is that you get your allotment of crowns every month and you can spend it in the cash shop however you want. If you sub then you get more each month.
Like Lord of the Rings Online I imagine.
Probably more like TSW. You buy the base game than can play as much as you want except if you want new issues you have to buy them as you go. There is also a cash shop for appearance items and some QOL potions like XP pots. Recently TSW added "Mystery Boxes" which are just a spin on the slot machine for a chance at a rarer item which is the same as GW2. I really hope there is no real world exchange like GW2 but it is EA after all so I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they add it.
The funny thing about TSW's model is I think I spend more money on it than I do in a traditional sub game when I'm playing it. The XP bonus for subbing is large enough and progression is so never-ending that you want to sub and still buy the new issues and mini packs investigation missions. ESO is setting up the champion system with the same kind of endless XP grind as TSW has which is smart from a business model of selling XP pots and subs with XP bonuses.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if this B2P conversion ends up generating significantly higher revenue per player on average than the sub model did as game companies really have this model down.
More like SWTOR. PS get some perks but they want everyone to buy stuff from the shops. So eventually you're looking at P2W to bring more whales into the game.

1. I am a full time worker, father of 2 young children, and I do university in the evenings. In essence I have only so much time for video games.
2. Since I am an avid SWTOR player, and I also dabble in other games like DA:I, Shadow of Mordor, HotS, D3, and also sometimes WoW, I have very little time to budget in ESO as well as pay for a subscription.
3. Wasn't good enough to bump SWTOR or WoW from my top 2 MMO's. In fact, I liked FF:XIV Reborn better as well. However, it was good enough, and I am loyal to Bethesda enough, to have purchased a copy for myself and my wife. A B2P model would justify this purchase finally.
4. Now when I am in the mood for some Elder Scrolls, I can sit down and pop this game on. Maybe if i can actually make it to the endgame, it may be worth investing some additional $$$.
Regardless of their reasons, I appreciate this step by them, and I hope it goes well enough that the content itself doesn't suffer anymore.
This is not exactly a GW2 model since they have also announced an optional sub for which people will get crowns every month.
Which could well lead to much fluff in the cash shop going forward.
For anyone thinking of subscribing a word of warning: yes you will get access to "all content" but it may be better value buying whatever new content is released. Depends on pricing of course but this is a consideration in other games that have gone this route.

Yeah, me neither. I don't get folks that play games just because they are free...
If I didn't think this game was good enough to play before, nothing has changed. The £2.50 or so the sub cost a week really wasn't the barrier to me getting stuck in... It really is a negligible amount.
I don't get the people who will put their precious leisure time into something that they didn't enjoy enough to put such a small amount of cash into.
I agree with this. The sub wasn't the reason why i quit. The combat suck's to me.
Good to hear. I was hoping the initial $60 box price wouldn't be completely wasted. Definitely not a game I enjoyed enough to sub to. But an ok time waster if I'm in between games.
I say this now but I imagine I will get in the game and start pulling my hair out after the 900th no freedom quest. I suppose there is a reason I only got to level 11.
They basically did a paid beta on pc and milked their customers for console release lol. I'm actually happy about this. I'll buy this game on ps4 and play it peacefully without any bugs and bots...
This!
AND to all the nay sayers trolling the earlier article weeks ago speculating F2P......

Yes. As with any standard multiplayer game on these platforms, an internet connection and an Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus membership will be required to play."
I guess its because it is going b2p not f2p.
From SOE faq :
This article details the requirements to play online multiplayer games on the PlayStation®4.
Details
In almost all cases, a PlayStation Plus account is needed to play online multiplayer on the PS4™.
If a PS Plus member registers a PlayStation 4 as their "primary" system, anyone who uses that system has the ability to play online multiplayer, regardless of whether or not they are PS Plus members. Additionally, as many as four players can simultaneously play online on the same console, even if they don't subscribe to PlayStation Plus.

More information on PlayStation Plus, including how to subscribe, can be found here.
Exceptions
Free-to-play games are exempt from this requirement and can be played online with no PS Plus subscription. Examples of games that fall into this category are: Blacklight Retribution, DC Universe Online, and War Frame.
This is not exactly a GW2 model since they have also announced an optional sub for which people will get crowns every month.
Which could well lead to much fluff in the cash shop going forward.

Is pretty much a Freemium model, like SWTOR, but B2P since they still have the console release. in ESO you gonna need a sub to play all the new content or updates or just buy it from the CS. A freemium model.
This is why Subscriptions are a bad idea. If you are going B2P you need to do it from the beginning. Since it first came out as Sub, the box has been discounted. If you plan B2P from the beginning, you can also plan to NOT discount the entry fee, and keep a $60 level of investment in the game most casually disruptive F2P types will not be willing to pay. Now, ESO can be had for under $10... A much more attractive one time payment for the casually bored asshat.
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.
When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.
No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

Well it was obvious this was going to happen I did notice loads of comments on here from people who were saying it was all conjecture and that it would stay under a subscription but it was clear these people were living in denial and I would think they are probably shocked today as to how fast they have been proven wrong .
Changing to a buy to play model was the right thing to do as it is buy far the best payment model for the game and anyone who is enjoying the game now but wont play anything that doesn't have a subscription and plan to leave after the conversion are really cutting off their nose to spite their face . Its a bit pedantic of them to say the least .
But good luck in finding a subscription game anyway you really are limited to WoW , EvE and FF14 and a few lesser known or older games and while the model isn't dying it certainly is becoming a rare commodity . ( I would actually class EvE as earn to play because you can play it for free with a little hard work in the game itself )
I wouldn't be surprised if Wildstar is next and most of the new games in development have no plans for a subscription model so unless you like any of the games I have mentioned perhaps its time to take a long hard look as to whether you can stomach buy to play or free to play or at least try them before you make up your mind then it may be time to give up on the mmo genre altogether .
Things are moving on you have to decide whether you want to go with it or let things move along without you .

So far what I heard about ESO, most the game have a lot solo play be good start.
For wildstar if they end up doing the same, they very little solo play other then leveling, so may end up problem going b2p or f2p.
I agree with this. The sub wasn't the reason why i quit. The combat suck's to me.
