Just to clear this up, I think this is the business model they should have launched with. Its much like SoE model they been using for years and have done very well. I think its the business model all MMOs should use. My problem is I think this was their plan from the start, to milk PC gamers till the launched the console game. I think PC gamers should get a bigger reward for subbing to this from the start.

Like I said in other threads, I don't think b2p fits what zos has been doing with their updates at all. I expect update quality will start sucking as they move to produce more purchasable content. I feel the only way ZOS can afford to keep up this quality is if they have an insanely good console release, better than I am expecting.

I feel like Microsoft found another way to screw me over. Goddamnit Microsoft. I think it is clear that their refusal to waive Xbox live fees spooked zos.

In the short term it will save me money but I expect the gameplay will suffer greatly in the long run.

I hope I am wrong about all these things.

Already owned it on the PC, will prolly buy it for XB1 as well.  Controls felt more like a console game anywho.

If you do, you will only have to pay $20 and you'll get a complete copy of your PC account contents copied to the XB1 - all characters, items, gold, etc.

But once that transfer happens, the two accounts will be separate.

How many people do you think have stayed concurrently subbed for all 10 months? Is suspect the numbers are small. While there are a lot of people in the game right now I think many of those were guys who bought it on the cheap this past month like I did. All starter and second area maps are loaded. I dount theyre all alts. But 75-80% of the people I see are under level 45.

But we all knew they were goign to drop the sub at some point I just thought the way they were (over) spending to get the game worthy of being free to play they were looking to milk subs a little while longer.

I got lucky again I suppose bought it for 19.89 got my free month and will now be getting a months worth of sub perks for free and will just wait the 5 or 6 weeks for the ability to play it again once my time runs out in Feb.

I pay for beta with many games ( Steam's early access) and do not mind as I am aware upfront the game is in beta. I do mind when the company hides its beta status under the guise a a full release for the system that isn't their main goal ( ESO big aim has always been consoles as that is where the Elder Scrolls franchise thrives already ).

I'm disappointed. I'll see how it turns out. If they release regular expansions (or DLC as they put it) then the ongoing sub may be worth it, as it stands it's pointless. Whether I play or not will depend on how bad the cash shop is.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I might actually buy it now and give it a whirl, just for the PVE storyline... if by chance the fun train goes beyond then great!

    +1

Either way is fine by me. I am just glad it did not go to Free to Pay. I am looking forward to the Justice System and the many improvements in 1.6.

I can see the validity of people being upset. Game was a mess at launch and only over the past few weeks are people talking about being happy with the state of the game. Many saying patch 1.6 I think it was, that fixed many problems. The state of the game IMO was beta quality. So calling its a paid beta is not far from the mark. IMO thats ok as long as you are up front with customers about what they are paying for. ZM was not. Here we are where many said we would be. IMO this was the smart move by ZM but it does not change the funny taste this move made when it could have been done a lot sooner to make them look like they were being fair, over now looking like they milked PC gamers.

I love the pure taste of victory. So many saying it will never go B2P or F2P. XD

Now we just have to wait for the next new P2P game where everyone shouts it will never switch. Cause some people never learn.

Anyway, I think this is overall a good move for ESO, and I think it's what they should have done to begin with. I might actually decide to buy it now. Keeping in mind, I never hated the game, I just never felt it was worth the monthly fee. A single box price though .. I can live with.

I always thought B2P was key to a successful console launch and would have been a more TES style of model for the game in general from launch.

Key to me though isn't the cost of the game it's the champion system.  VR1-10 was my biggest gripe against the game and we will see how that looks after it's gone.  I was going to go back and try it again regardless after the champion system was implemented now it's just easier as I won't have to sub.

I guess I will have to get used to playing with poor people cause they will also be able to play the game now image

Yeah but what other choice did they have? People have been saying that the game has anywhere between 750k to 1 million subscribers. The problem is that people who are emotionally attached to a game or the IP will rarely see anything wrong with the game and question every single time their beloved game changes the P2P business model.

Looking at the PVE content, I could see how it could be fun short term (i.e. 1 or 3 months and maybe up to 6 months subscription). But beyond that? If you look at some previous titles such as SWTOR, or TERA Online, they lost roughly 90% of their servers before making the switch. A more accurate representation would be from TSW where Funcom stated that they lost 80% of their subscriber base.

If ESO would have only lost half of their playerbase, chances are they would have stayed P2P. But when a company makes the switch, it usually means that a considerable amount of folks have left the game (this can mean anywhere from 70%-90%).

On top of that people don't realize (or don't care since it concerns their beloved IP) that most themepark MMOs that are released nowadays with the same old formula (with maybe a new twist here and there) is just not enough, especially with huge budget AAA titles that western companies release. They run the high risk of changing their business model in a year or two.

Well to be fair, it's not like he did anything special. I mean plenty of people, him and myself included all assumed it would go B2P or F2P.

The only difference is, he actually found out from an insider about it actually doing so.

As for his claim about developers wanting it to be B2P originally. I would have to agree simply because I am a game developer and I felt it made no sense for them to go P2P to begin with. Espeically when you look at previous elder scrolls game sales data.

Nah... it's more basic than that: you either have fun or not have fun. The fact that it's now moving from P2P to B2P does not invalidate whatever your game experience was in the past 10 months.

I doubt anyone who thought that it was "a mess" and felt that it continued to be that stuck around and paid.

"PC was a paid beta" comments popping up all over today are just drama.

I think it was the obvious thing to do for the console release. And the sub fee the PC players paid went to help improve the game immensely in a short amount of time. Hopefully they will continue to be able to pump out content at the rate they have been after the transition and not end up like GW2 where nothing of note is ever added.
  • dreamsfadedreamsfade Member UncommonPosts: 339
I think it's great. The game feels like a B2P than a P2P game any how. If they would have done this from the start they could have saved themselves a lot of time.
