Either way is fine by me. I am just glad it did not go to Free to Pay. I am looking forward to the Justice System and the many improvements in 1.6.
I thought it was going to bother me, but the model they are putting out actually is pretty good (for me). B2P + buyable content will act as a $$ barrier, so there shouldn't be erosion of the current community. Additionally, ESO as an experience, attracts a certain demographic so I see more ES fans that didn't want/couldn't pay for a sub coming back or starting fresh.
On the Twitch episode, they addressed the items available in the Crown Shop. They alleviated concerns about them being used for in-game trading, and for gold conversion. All items will account bound. This also includes cosmetic items like clothes and mounts, which get added to an accounts "collection". The collection does not take up inventory space, and every character on that account can access it.
I'm looking forward to the change. However, I will wait and see how it fares in a couple months down the road. Right now, it looks like something I can work with.
Originally posted by mrBurns210 PC was a paid beta. I am done with this company ( not like it matters much).
Well I guess any fun you might have had over the past 10 months wasn't real fun, it was just "beta" fun.
I can see the validity of people being upset. Game was a mess at launch and only over the past few weeks are people talking about being happy with the state of the game. Many saying patch 1.6 I think it was, that fixed many problems. The state of the game IMO was beta quality. So calling its a paid beta is not far from the mark. IMO thats ok as long as you are up front with customers about what they are paying for. ZM was not. Here we are where many said we would be. IMO this was the smart move by ZM but it does not change the funny taste this move made when it could have been done a lot sooner to make them look like they were being fair, over now looking like they milked PC gamers.
Nah... it's more basic than that: you either have fun or not have fun. The fact that it's now moving from P2P to B2P does not invalidate whatever your game experience was in the past 10 months.
I doubt anyone who thought that it was "a mess" and felt that it continued to be that stuck around and paid.
"PC was a paid beta" comments popping up all over today are just drama.
Yup and many stuck it out paying because they hopped it would get better. Now it is, now its B2P. Works for me, I have been waiting for this. I knew it was coming for 2 years. To the people sticking out out, this is a slap in the face. To the people who had fun, this is also no big deal.
"PC was a paid beta" comments popping up all over today are just drama.
Not really. The game should have stayed in development for another year. They pushed out a PC version simply because they needed $.
Console version forced the new payment model ( MS would not budge on waiving subscription fee of their own ). So this moved makes sense but Zenimax Online knew this before PC release which means more then likely a b2p or f2p was in the works from almost the start.
So feel free to belittle how others feel writing it off as just drama. For some though it isn't drama. It just simply highlights a company that has shady business practices.
In case anyone was wondering, they just confirmed on the live chat that all items bought with crowns will not be tradeable. So no, no Crown > gold conversions.
Also the Crown shop will have DLC, mount skins (mounts that are no better than in game mounts), costumes, potions and soul gems and the potions will be worse than crafted potions but a bit better than drops or store bought in that they will scale with your level.
And speaking of scaling.... all DLC will be scalable content much like Skyrim content is. Playable at any level.

Well to be fair, it's not like he did anything special. I mean plenty of people, him and myself included all assumed it would go B2P or F2P.
The only difference is, he actually found out from an insider about it actually doing so.
As for his claim about developers wanting it to be B2P originally. I would have to agree simply because I am a game developer and I felt it made no sense for them to go P2P to begin with. Espeically when you look at previous elder scrolls game sales data.
No but too often are forum goers/gamers considered scrubs who just want attention, have no lives, heck, half the time it seems that "some people" believe we didn't go to college, have careers or we truly live in basements.
And on top of that, it should be considered that some of us speak with developers, know people in the business and are truly just reporting/repeating what is said. Of course, there are reasons (bad posters) that some people might not be considered trustworthy.
More on topic, I'm "happy" because I WANT them to include an option to remake the look of my main character. I don't like his look and have written several times inquiring if this was going to come to pass.

I dont see the big deal. console gamers have to buy games to play them. There are really no other options for them, so i dont understand why pc gamers feel like its a crime to have to buy their games. strange times.

Let us work through this.
Steam sells games in beta they say 'Early Access'. You know when you buy the game that it will be buggy and not finished.
ESO was sold as a finished game. It wasn't. The past year was equivalent to early access.

I really don't care if you thought it was finished or not (as if any MMO ever is, lol.) If you bought it, hated it, got a refund or didn't sub after your free month, fine, have at it with all your beta comments.
But anyone who says they stuck around subbing month after month and are now quitting because it's going B2P and on the way out they say "it was just beta all this time"... that's drama.

The proof would be if the claimed items actually come to pass in an appropriate amount of time to support the individual's claims. And they if they do then there could be a possibility that the individual does have some additional knowledge that others might not at the moment.

Well let's put it this way. It isn't about believing with no proof, it's more about believing because you believe that person because they have shown they know what they are talking about.
Let me ask you this. Do you ask your doctor for proof for everything they tell you, or do you simply believe them, because they are more likely to know what they are talking about?
If a gardener tells you the best way to water a particular plant, do you ask for proof?
Sorry, but there are just some instances when proof isn't required, because the person is very likely correct. It's called using logic and reasoning.

OK let;s do work through it: you stuck around for 10 months paying every month? You were having fun but now you say it was all beta? yes, it's drama.
“Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?”

The proof would be if the claimed items actually come to pass in an appropriate amount of time to support the individual's claims. And they if they do then there could be a possibility that the individual does have some additional knowledge that others might not at the moment.
Does no one think anymore?

Well let's put it this way. It isn't about believing with no proof, it's more about believing because you believe that person because they have shown they know what they are talking about.
Let me ask you this. Do you ask your doctor for proof for everything they tell you, or do you simply believe them, because they are more likely to know what they are talking about?
If a gardener tells you the best way to water a particular plant, do you ask for proof?
Sorry, but there are just some instances when proof isn't required, because the person is very likely correct. It's called using logic and reasoning.
You don't have to believe him. But no one should call someone a liar unless they have proof of the contrary themselves.
well said.
