I could care less why someone subs or unsubs, it is all a personal choice, mmorpg has nitpicked ESO since day one and almost always negative.
But to me the real issue is the fact they put the whole PC player base on the shelf now for so long, we were the paying and loyal customers that kept the door open, this is biting them in the butt now and will in the future, I still play the game and I still have fun, but after consoles release I hope they start the wheels of content rolling, me and my friends won't be lasting much longer, which with the sub being an option really means nothing to them any longer.
I would not be surprised to see them close the pc mega servers if the consoles are a hit and do not suffer from the same lag issues as the pc does, I kinda doubt it but would not be surprised.
The game is now buy to play as primary model (without typical buy to win store)...so subscription doesn't really make sense unless you only ever play ESO and nothing else.
Say what you want about B2P or knock people for agreeing with the OP but when a game after a year, still hasn't fixed the LFG finder you really have to admit they do not care about the PC/MAC players. Heck just the box sales of 60 to 70 dollars depending what you buy for game that much should at LEAST give you a working LFG tool.
By a long shot ^^ IMO, Needs work but the amount of quality content and features dearfes anything else, e.g 350 hours of good quality voice acted questing, wVw, gorgeous gfx and sound, a future that does not consist of a stairway of instances and tiered gear, justice system. That alone makes it worth the money for the first couple of years, during and after that time you are free to pick a paymen model that suit that puts control in the player hands.
That's pretty damn good stuff.

90% plays without a subsription atm due to the crown shop simply having no intresting content for most players.
but who cares? its a B2P game with slight advantages if you subcribe and a few items that are just reskins of the same item.
why share it as a feature that you quit!!! whooo best news ever.. c'mon make a damn report about some silly indy game or someting.. but this personal bullshit belongs on forums , not as featured news.

I think it's more that this website is losing popularity and relevance. More and more people are flocking to Reddit. I know I am. Fast loading times, cross-platform apps to easily and quickly read messages....MMORPG better start catching up before they become obsolete. Have you tried navigating this website on a mobile phone recently? It's a headache. It defaults to mobile view and 75% of the time when I click full website view, it ignores my request. Not to mention the excessive load times.

Good idea. Have a link?
It's also terrible to view on tablets. An update to the forums and maybe the whole website was supposed to happen. I guess not.
Good article. Maybe ESO will take a look and do something about it. After consoles launch they will still be taking care of unexpected problems for awhile. Then probably work on new items for store and dlc. I see them as focusing on bringing in more money above all else.

I've read a lot of folks saying something to the effect of "Duh! don't pay, why are you frustrated? It's common knowledge" Let me just say I can understand the author's sentiment... this is far and away (imo) the BEST mmorpg money can buy but the lack of content is abysmal. I swear it feels like they fired that one dude that had control of the game code... IC and Orsinium are complete! idc what anyone says! ZoS is dragging their feet for console drop, but it has already been stated that we will see IC and Orsinium (Wrothgar) this year, not next.
My sub doesn't expire till august so I'll decide if its worth my buck then which if there is still no new content then I will cancel it with extreme prejudice!
No. Not happening. The Author is guilty of joining the entitlement immediate gratification crowd in my opinion. ESO has been clear about the massive content currently being created and they have been clear on when more details will be released.
i don't personally expect them to change their marketing of this new content from their proposed dates of information release as it makes perfect sense to do it in a way that also entices console players to look forward to it. As console release is only a matter of days away, I'm patient enough to let them complete the console release and look forward to then hearing all the info on Imperial city, Clockwork, Orsiniam, theives guild, dark brotherhood, etc.
Although I am not in agreement with the entitlement stamp, the rest of your post is accurate. ZOS has been very transparent in their timeline for the coming months. The last update was HUGE. After that, they let us know that the next one would be after the dust of the console release settles down.
They've informed the community, and now it's just the waiting game. The general consensus seems to be around Aug, as that gives them time to sort out the console hiccups. Really though, it's not going to be forever, and it is coming. There's no need to get all dramatic over the forums, and there certainly isn't a need to make an entire "I QUIT!!!" article because someone had a bad morning. I thought those types of threads were discouraged and generally deleted by admin. I have no idea why histrionics like that are now allowed from the staff writers.

Still coming, I swear. We, the staff, are right there with you guys on wanting the new site. It's beyond painful to navigate these days. But transforming a 2002 site into a 2015 site, with a complete new back-end takes time. When I am given the green light to update you guys, I will. But yes, it's still coming, and I think you all will be very pleased at navigation, mobile, load times, the works.
Now: back on topic - Ryan's one of our two-man punch for weekly ESO columns. Columns, by their very nature, are supposed to be editorial pieces heavy on opinion about the topic. In this case, it's why Ryan dropped the sub and we're sure his thoughts echo many others out there with this game or others.

One thing you are missing is for almost a year they keep telling us they were working on the bugs and lag in PC/MAC. Told us the game would never go F2P and they told truth there but worked on setting game up for B2P with a crown store. They out right lied to us. Also they were working full speed on console so how can you think people that paid to have console worked on don't have a right to complain post an I quit thread. It is most certainly overdue and right thing to say.
Heck about time someone said it! We paid over a year for a beta and lies.
i feel the exact same as the column author. I cancelled my sub long ago after buy to play and went back to guild wars 2. I prefer ESO AvA system much more than GW2 tri realm pvp but man ESO dropped the ball focusing their entire time to consoles and letting their pc players linger with nothing at all. I feel like other posters have said on their own forums that we just are beta testers that funded the rest of their console release. They do not even send out balance patches anymore just bug fixes. I think OP was spot on for his column and share pretty much everything he said and in my opinion the cash shop sucks but I was saying that at the beginning when it first released that after a couple of months no one would have crap to buy and justify any sort of sub because they perks are garbage for 15 bucks a month.
The (completely optional) sub is absolutely not worth the money at the moment.
But don't imagine for a second that it will stay that way.
ZOS want the maximum possible uptake when the console version launches. Currently, it is "well-established fact" that all you need to fully enjoy ESO:TU is to buy the game. Beyond that, everything is so optional it may as well not exist.
Once the console sales come off their peak, I expect the Cash Shop will be expanded considerably (might even happen right at the console launch) and then the DLC's will start rolling out. Soon thereafter, someone will "discover" that the monthly sub is actually excellent value for money ! The curse will be magically transformed into a blessing overnight...

They've certainly beein doing some stupid things around the whole B2P issue, but that isn't what the thread is about. (for the record, I believe they lied as well and have said as such on the official forums and elsewhere)
The article is about ragequitting because the OP feels like ZOS is focusing on consoles. WHICH THEY ARE. It's a huge deal doing that release, and they've been very forthcoming since around Update 6 (essentially ESO 2.0) that this would happen. Console release --> deal with launch issues --> back on track with beefy content.
What the OP isn't doing is taking that in consideration and having a Poor Me moment.
This article doesn't deserve a column piece. There really is no incentive to sub to ESO right now. They just switched to a B2P model and it's pretty common knowledge that the sub won't be worth it until (possibly) some DLCs come out, but even then it might not be (as the DLC purchases might be less).
So, not quite sure what the revelation is here when this has been discussed many times in the forums.
Have to agree with this. Even when it first was announched these forums where full of players saying there is no reall benifith when you're already capped.
Re-subbed back in januari being absent for several months but just bought a new game system at the end of 2014 and there where just too many games I wanted to play or wanted to "re-life so since havn't really played.
But regardless I doubt that if I return I need the sub. Considering the portion of the game I enjoyed I do'nt seem limited with it's B2P options.
