Everyone can take a look how the engine works. But its NOT Open Source. If someone wants to make a game with it, they still have to get a license from CryTek.
Rarr Rarr Rarr Derek Smart a washed up bum who couldn't make a game if you gave him everything needed for one!!! What a loser! Who would listen to him!?
OMG, look what Derek's blogged now, OMG look what Derek's tweeted now, OMG look, did you see that? OMG I have to tweet it to everyone, OMG I have to post it on reddit... OMG /faint
Let's create subreddits to undermine this washed up loser that no one cares about, let's create videos to psychoanalyse the motivations of a man that we claim is a washed up loser and that no one cares about.
--- I swear, half the time people are doing his work for him.
"First and foremost I would like to personally thank the community for
being there for my family and I. You guys have shone over and over that
you're more than just fans, you guys are family. I've met you guys at
bar citizens, conventions, office tours and out in public and I can
honestly say it's always been a pleasure! You guys are what drives this
game to be great. That's why we put in the hours and go the extra mile
because of the passion of the fans of Star Citizen. You guys believe in
us and honestly that's what gets us out of bed in the morning.
As
some of you may have heard, I am leaving Star Citizen. This was a very
tough decision that was not taken lightly. As I said before, I love this
project and the fans. It came down to the fact that my role as Art
Director had shifted more and more towards the team in LA. I was
traveling quite a bit back and forth from Austin to LA (like 2 weeks on 2
weeks off) and as you can imagine, this began to take a toll on my
family and my sanity (I have learned to absolutely hate airports! lol).
To be fair to the LA ship team, they honestly need an AD there full
time, so CR gave me the opportunity to move to LA. Having 3 kids that
range from elementary school through high school, my wife and I felt
that relocating them away from their friends would suck! plus the fact
that we really like living in Austin. So I've decided to move on and
make room for someone who can help the team full time. I'll always love
this project and what it stands for, which is ultimately freedom from
oppressive publishers and the power of an awesome community. I love you
guys and wish you all the absolute best!

Mark - hero of BarCitizen - has started working at Bluepoint Games http://bluepointgames.com/ known for their part in the Uncharted series, Titanfall and others.
He worked at CIG for 3 years 5 months, which was his second longest career stop (he was 6 years at Blizzard as a 3D modeler, before he started taking on group leader and director jobs which typically lasted 1-3 years (see his LinkedIn profile).
Messages from devs from 4 studios around the world on multiple continents and in multiple time zones.
Most new homepage (not forum) updates seem to be uploaded around 6-7 p.m. UTC Greenwich Mean Time (which is good for me, as this is usually around 8 p.m. local for me, so i often see it when its only minutes after uploading). I assume that means its uploaded around noon/early afternoon US time (west coast).
@rpmcmurphy they will never see what they do as crazier then what Derek Smart does.
What's crazy about laughing at the village idiot? I don't understand why you guys DON'T openly mock Smart and laugh at his shenanigans. Even before this whole Star Citizen thing the man has been a laughing stock in the industry and his constant ability to put his foot in his mouth has led to some of the most enjoyable reads of my time on the internet.
I mean hell the man sent himself death threats to prove people gave his games bad reviews because they hate him, used racial slurs against Asians while claiming people were attacking him "because he's black", threatened to physically assault a critic who caught him in a lie, lied to consumers for years about a product he knew he couldn't deliver (hell he even lied about getting the manual finished, it took him two years to finish a pdf document), threatened lawsuits against people for giving his games bad reviews and/or making fun of him, lied about having an accredited PhD for years claiming he couldn't prove it because his dissertation was classified by the US state department; the list goes on and ALL of this is before he ever started his feud with CIG.
Personally I've been enjoying watching Smart fail since the latter part of 2003 so this thing with CIG is nothing more than a new chapter in a long list of incredible missteps by the good "doctor". In fact his hilarious rage boner for this project has been my favorite part of Star Citizen and arguably the only reason I've paid any attention to it's development.

Because there is no reason to waste time with this person if he is all what you say he is. HE can be safely ignored. Animals with no empathy and antisocial animals mock and laugh at the village idiot. Human beings do not.
Smart and Roberts strike me as having very similar personalities. Roberts is just nicer in public.
Probably why they get along so poorly.
Yes, Roberts is much nicer in public - which is the only situation we've seen him in. Meaning, you have so much to base your opinion on
Oh, let me guess - you've seen him be nasty at parties with all those friends of yours that know him intimately, right?
Oh, and then there's that little detail of how their game development careers are... slightly different. You know, that thing we might care about when evaluating their ability to speak about game development from a position of authority - and their capacity to actually deliver a successful, ambitious game.
But, you're right, other than that - they might as well be the same person.

You might have sat on the crazy train a little too long there.
@Arglebargle Saying they probably have the same personalities to you saying they might as well be the same person doesn't sound crazy at all.

I'm struggling to find a point in that response.
Is it making too much sense or what?
Ah so then you know how I feel about your response to @Arglebargle talking about their personalities.

Ah, let me try in simple terms:
I don't think we have anything substantial with which to support the claim that they have very similar personalities.
The only things we have is what we see and hear from them in public - and based on that, their personalities seem almost diametrically opposed. Chris is a bit socially awkward and struggles slightly with his own presentation, but he's more or less 100% focused on talking about his geeky passions in public. Derek is extremely aggressive and abrasive, and he's more or less 100% focused on attacking others or defending himself in public.
Beyond that, we have their résumés.
Chris is an established success based on his previous work - and Derek is an established failure.
If that's still confusing, I'm probably not the right one to make it any clearer.

Paraphrased of course and I almost believed him until about midway through when the fanboy started to poke through the well written script.
