Interview with Turbulent, the website provider of Star Citizen:

    http://quebec.huffingtonpost.ca/2016/07/12/jeu-video-star-citizen_n_10941920.html

    Translation (from SC reddit group):

The new project from Chris Roberts, a game designer who has had great success in the 90s with the series of space simulators "Wing Commander".

After a hiatus of several years, Chris Roberts returns to the front of the scene in 2012 with an ambitious project to revive the space simulator and make a massively online. His goal: to create a fluid and complete experience, allowing players to control the vessels, out of the ships, shoot enemies, do missions and trade, all in a unified, immersive world. It presents a technical demo video and recorded "Star Citizen" in sociofinancement. The huge community of fans formed around the "Wing Commander" has responded by funding the project to the tune of US $ 100 million, making it the most sociofinancé project in the world in any field.

Turbulent developed by the Montreal agency that was referred to by Chris Roberts game studio Behavour Interactive, Roberts Space Industries (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/) is the platform for managing the sociofinancement the game by offering players to buy vessels and objects in their possession in the game to its release. The platform is also used to keep the community abreast of the progress of the game, providing accurate information about the universe, creating organizations of players, and especially to have a direct impact on the development of the game.

"Chris Roberts has landed a day in Turbulent says Benjamin Fardel, Project on Roberts Space Industries. It was impressive to meet such a powerful person in the field of gaming. We met, we analyzed all we could do with it. From that moment, it has six months to create the new platform, a major site that combines the data from the old site and the campaign sociofinancement. Being fans of the first hour, we had a pretty clear idea of what the community expected of us and the site. "

A total of 7 people working every day to add content and service platform that reaches over one million users.

"At every turn, once you publish something, you realize the magnitude of the project, said the project manager. As soon as you book the content is immediately visible by many players. For example last year we released a mini-game in one hour more than 10 000 people had finished the game. It's very exciting and unusual for a Web company to have such visibility, but at the same time, we have no room for error. "

Roberts Space Industries Platform is a privileged place of exchange with the fans and players. Through chat and discussion forums, players help developers refine the platform and the game.

"Star Citizen" is one of the first games of this magnitude to be "open development", that is to say, to share his daily progress, both in terms of environments, new ships, techniques, that of the universe. This level of transparency allows players to be informed daily on the news of the game, and give their opinion. The role of the Roberts Space Industries to build this platform is stable source of information, and where to begin to immerse themselves in the game.

Of the one million user accounts that includes the Roberts Space Industries platform, 500,000 fans have already pre-purchased content in the game, which is actively involved in its funding. In total, the game has raised more than US $ 100 million. "We are fortunate to have a large group of players who help us every step that is there to support us when we launch a new module. When dealing with a major upgrade in advance on the tests on selected players and considering each of their remarks, "says Benjamin Fardel.

Since July 2013, the team of Turbulent implements many tools to help the community to feel good on the platform and in the game. The system of organizations allows players to create a guild to recruit other players with similar interests. They can choose an image for their organization, a name, a slogan and a story. Tens of thousands of organizations have already been established internationally. The whole community can also communicate through a chat system and media in which players can post all their creations.

"We're very responsive to requests from the community. Quite often, one asks players what they expect the next stages of development of the game or platform, and it becomes the new priority focus of our team, "said Benjamin Fardel.

The strength and durability of such a long project come from the privileged relationship between players and developers.

"From the moment the community is aware that the project progresses, we made the move with them, the reaction is always positive," says Benjamin Fardel.

This Turbulent interview contains an interesting piece of additional information if the number is accurate.

Many people have asked themselves how many PAYING backers there are (compared to the 1.4 million registered fans called "Star Citizens"). Some critics have claimed that the number is as low as 50.000 and only "whales" keep investing into the Star Citizen project  (the "sunk cost fallacy" argument).

500.000 paying backers seems to be the number according to Turbulent. Which is about the number predicted by long term SC project observers here on this subforum (including me).

A fan has build himself as custom cockpit for SC .... impressive

"My custom gaming cockpit that focuses on Star Citizen with controls designed to work specifically with the game; tons of features, buttons and even a full on targeting computer. It is still a work in progress, but I will be completing the entire project this month. Even the stock components have been modified."

What is different in Star Citizen compared to other crowfunding games ? "The experience of being a backer"  is one of the answers given in a recent article:

"Maybe that’s what’s unique about Star Citizen: that for at least some of its backers (the happy ones) it’s not a product they’re paying for, but the experience of being a backer. Like that age-old piece of advice to gamblers heading out to Vegas for the weekend, the people who come back happy aren’t generally the people who go to win, but the people who can see their losses at the tables as the price of a good time."

Imagine living the life of an unseen stowaway on a player run Bengal carrier or even an Idris destroyer after launch day, scavenging for the things you need and playing tricks on the crew. You have to slip on board somewhere during their port visits - maybe even go in by EVA.

Or you can go for the full "Event Horizon" treatment and murder the crew one by one.

It's not event horizon unless you can exfiltrate your own colon manually while busting out scary words in latin. Still I thought your post was intriguing. :)

Star Citizen has its first in-print comic: "Hunter"

    http://hunter.thecomic.ninja/?comic=issue-1-cover

Has been given out in printed form (fan made) at GamesCom. Has been translated into German and printed with the help of a player org (C.R.A.S.H.) and available at the booth.

What forest? You're pointing me at a few trees and telling me it's an ancient forest. There are probably more people who think she's a drama queen on this forum then shown in those supporting pics
