One cannot dismiss the article as a whole because it was up for a short while before the response was added (a very weak response I might add). He did get a chance to reply and by far most people who read the article will have read it with his response added.

I just find it strange that people are trying too discredit the arcticle when it's Chris Roberts is the one who needs to prove what has been said is false and people are waiting.
Ah see here's where you're wrong, the burden of proof sits on the accusers. In this case that would be DS, and Escapist. Chris Roberts is innocent until proven guilty of something other than wanting to make an ambitious game. It's the job of the accusers to bring forth evidence of wrong doing, and it needs to be verifiable.
Realizer is exactly correct in this. It is always the person that brings the charges that must prove them. CR does not have to prove anything. He can obiously poke holes in their charges, which he has done.

I have two anonymous sources that I verified via a badge with no name, that you are actually a blood relative to Mickey Mouse. I believe my sources are solid. Now it's up to you to prove me wrong. Even if you do though my sources say otherwise.
Although obviously false these are the types of statements that could be made in "your world". Glad I don't live there.

Actually it is up to Chris Roberts to make his move he has to take action against escapist so they have to prove what they wrote is from confirmed sources and not some made up story.
No actually the made up story part is starting to piece itself together quite nice without any litigation. By the internet doing it's due diligence unlike escapist. It just seems over here on this forum we are behind the curve a bit. Other journalists are calling this thing what it is in other forums, a poor excuse for an unbiased story. I've provided links already where you can find said quotes. You can sit there regurgitating the same thing post after post, but the internet moves faster than that.
Actually, it should be noted that in the most recent update on the RSI website, they have actually sent a letter to The Escapist demanding an apology to Sandi Gardiner and also a retraction of the article. If they don't get a response from them, with their intention to comply, then they will be starting legal action.

That is right. Roberts does not need to provide any proof. It might however, be in his best interest to do so.
The only thing he needs to really do, is deliver the game he promised. So far we've only seen the wallpaper as one source in the article said, none of the foundation. It should be the other way around. So if he himself wants to keep up his credibility, he should stop selling concept art and focus on putting something out. Be it in 2 years or 3, that is not my biggest concern.
Ultimately it's not even clear what he is risking besides throwing his name into eternal internet hell. He's in a legal grey area. But lets agree that it is in everyone's best interest to get the game out in some form or shape.
@Realizer Again, they should have cooked the article longer. I agree that there are too many anonymous sources, they should have probably been stricter and thrown a bunch of them out. The source with the ID card also showed his pay check according to The Escapist, but should probably have been thrown out. Still, that leaves 6 sources.
I don't agree with your take on ethics. First off: those are guidelines and every single one of them can be overridden should a redaction and editors feel that is in the public interest to do so. I'd say that $90 million crowdfunding income and their continued campaigns warrant that.
The fact that it's ex-employees talking is made clear in the article. Whether they are disgruntled or disillusioned or not doesn't make their angle any less valuable. It's up to the reader to decide what to take away from it, not the journalist.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

Is that how this works now? Journalist can say sketchy stuff and its the burden of those whom it defames to prove it wrong? That's f'in crazy! Everyone will start just making up crazy shit and if the subject doesn't address it, its true.
So you have never heard of anyone having to retract a story, or someone being sued over a story that had been published ?
They have already said they have confirmed their sources but people seem to be having a problem with that especially this I.D card.
If everyhting is ok at Star Citizen then Chris Roberts will not have a problem taking action aginst escapist.
Someone just wrote something in a book about the British prime minister and people don't know if that is true or not.
Thanks for being condescending. So you see no problem if the author lied about the Id cards? If it is true that she lied the article is suspect whether the other parts are true or not.

Yeah that is exactly what we have to do is wait, but i see people are still trying to discredit the arcticle either because it criticizes their game they have donated too, the way it's wrote, because they edited it with more info and because the sources want to stay anonymous which is what happens when someone decides to blow the whistle on a company which people seem to keep forgetting.
My money is on CIG thread is nothing more than a scare tactic and they wouldn't be that foolish to actually file a suit when they know once they do everything is put on table.

Interesting choice of words, as that paycheck cannot be verified as apparently Liz "didn't keep record of the source ID's on file," according to her twitter.
So again from escapist we get an "opps our bad, it accidentally wound up in the trash bin."

Yup, I'm assuming we'll hear something this week. I said last week that I would be truly disappointed if CIG took no action. They did. They also punched a bunch of holes in the credibility of The Escapist sources and their vetting process. Everything just seemed a little fantastical to me, a little (lot) over-the-top. I guess we'll see!!
My money is on CIG thread is nothing more than a scare tactic and they wouldn't be that foolish to actually file a suit when they know once they do everything is put on table.
It would be a bit ironic considering their stance on Derek Smart's claims.
My money is on CIG thread is nothing more than a scare tactic and they wouldn't be that foolish to actually file a suit when they know once they do everything is put on table.
It's only foolish if they really did anything wrong but if they have nothing to hide really maybe they don't care if they have to open their book to a court?
Just saying, none of us really know right now.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Sorry but everyone doesn't fit that narrative. I am a backer and am disappointed with the way CIG had been shady. But I also hate the opportunistic people who are creating a false narrative to benefit themselves.

Cannot be verified now or was not verified? If it wasn't verified before, then it should have been thrown out.
This is why you should wait longer than a few days when you're gonna publish an article like this. Their first article which apparently sparked the source's reaction was only a few days before. It's far too short to double-check everything. Especially if you know it's gonna be picked apart word by word by the fanbase.
Still 6 sources remaining. What they should do now to make up for the fact that they were too fast with publishing, is do a follow-up deepening the story.

Well, since im not realtive to Mickey Mouse, its shouldnt be hard to prove you wrong. CR should prove his innocence out of pure respect for people who gave him their money. If he has nothing to hide, that is.
Nope my sources say you're wrong, and there's now 9 of them. I threw away all the evidence of their identities. One of these sources is also a direct relative of Mickey Mouse and we chatted over skype. He had big ears, but I couldn't swear to that on a bible. All sources however still confirm the relation. They also posted their views on the same day at Ancestry.com.
See either which way you look at it, when you can't show accountability you are letting the media run wild. That's what we saw with the escapist article, and it's the crux of the entire argument.

As in she doesn't remember what the pay stub looked like, and didn't get a copy or picture of it for future verification; should she ever have to prove her story. Also she's pretty sure the badge looked exactly like a blank ProxCard, but she couldn't swear to it on a bible. Also she doesn't have copies of that either.
Mind you I'm not saying the names should be released, but when real journalist do huge stories like this. It's usually par for the course of them showing at least a trail or tidbits of source verification to prove what they say isn't just baseless allegation.
Keep in mind 2 out of the 9 sources were admittedly never identified, CS8, and CS9 respectively. That's still the case 5 days after the article.
If it's true they have 8 mil liquid capital, no way could they stop accepting pledges. That would indicate it took 82 mil to get what they have now (and yes, I will buy the "tip of the iceberg" hypothesis). I just don't see this project being finished in any form for an additional 8 million.
They need those whales (horrible term) to keep donating, and they will. It could end up costing 300 million plus and release in 2025. They will fund it; they are addicted to the idea of Star Citizen, and the illusion that throwing money at a problem will make it better.
As long as CIG/RSI opens its doors to donations, this could be dragged out a long time. Never underestimate blind faith.

The only thing you're going to be waiting on is what we already know, escapist has no proof of anything, no evidence of anything, and at best a handful of people with an axe to grind against the man who canned them.

Just saying, none of us really know right now.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

See either which way you look at it, when you can't show accountability you are letting the media run wild. That's what we saw with the escapist article, and it's the crux of the entire argument.

Others will wait while you still try to discredit the article. lol
