PCGames Article:

Jerome is more than happy to join Star Citizen’s unofficial street team. After all, he says, the $92 million raised to date isn’t enough. He thinks that Cloud Imperium are reliant on their backers to bring new supporters into the fold so that the game can be finished. (click for full article).

“Star Citizen is and always will be more than a triple-A game; so much more. Star Citizen speaks to the pure essence of humanity and the purpose of human beings, and I firmly believe that this is why there are so many passionate people on both sides of the fence." - Sandi Gardiner

I thought that as well until they said, that is why there are many people on  both sides of the fence.

Here is the original video of this quote. This is not about humanity wanting to expand into space. It's pure psychology and very well written i might add. Deliberately re-enforcing how special it is to be a "Star Citizen" even going so far as to issuing ID for members.

I think you are asking for too much there.
[mod edit] that reading helps because she is clearly talking about gaming no about colonizing space or humanities desire to explore:

This free money campaign has been amazing to follow. It is an incredible example of effective marketing. I tried to find a page that would best explain some of the masterpieces at play here, and this page seems to cover most of them.

Mind you, I'm not commenting at all on if it will release, how it will release, or anything regarding development itself. My interest has primarily been in the marketing and so far, they've knocked it out of the ballpark.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Are you guys really that dense?  She is referring to the fact that humanity has a strong desire to explore and populate etc, and that naturally progresses to space.  She isn't talking about gaming.  Learn to read.
I think you are asking for too much there.
I agree @Hrimnir ;that reading helps because she is clearly talking about gaming no about colonizing space or humanities desire to explore:

"...that this is why there are so many passionate people on both sides of the fence."

How can you get more obvious?
    [mod edit]

This project speaks to the desire of humanity to explore and colonize which naturally extends to space as we've mostly explored our own planet.  Because we are incapable as average citizens of doing so, we chose to live out this aspect of humanity in a VIDEO GAME.  Because this is such an important aspect of human nature/desire, it creates passionate viewpoints on both sides of this project.

    [mod edit]

Just for the record, i have not given one cent to this project. I had considered it after the "Escapist" fiasco just as a point of principle, but i decided not to purely based on the fact that i have limited liquid assets at this time.

You guys need to get off of your pedestals and stop embracing confirmation bias and actually try to look at things objectively.  Its getting seriously old, seriously quick.

I don't really care how you break it down, that piece is still over the top. If I wanted to delve into the essence of humanity and the purpose of human beings, I can sign up for philosophy courses or attend church.....

But what if I just want to play a [CENSORED] video game?

"Star Citizen speaks to the pure essence of humanity and the purpose of human beings"... playing a computer game?  Yup, I would put that on a level with watching the birth of your child or someone standing on the moon.

I personally may not be able to go out into space but I'm going to pick the birth of my son and helping raise him into who he will become as my purpose as a human being.

I'd love to be objective in this as you suggest but to be honest, in my opinion, she sounds like a f'ing idiot.

Also if a few of us in these threads have been bringing up almost the exact same points for just about a year now (want to know where money is going, potential scam) then does that mean Derek Smart is actually our parrot since we have been saying it long before he ever entered the picture?

I have one simple question separate from everything else: when are they going to / planning to release the game in completed form?

I don't need excuses as to why not, and I don't need plans, and visions, and the release of 20 new ships....

When will the game be released?

(And with all the BS and press stuff, I have not seen an answer...)

I can't say for sure but it seemed to be very well rehearsed. Considering how often she switches between "laughter" and "near tears". The flowers at the end to make a counter statement to the accusations of the sources that she is a bitch at the workplace also seemed very planned.

If you follow the rest of the Video you see a few other well timed "jabs" at the Escapist article thrown in seemingly random by Chris Roberts.

Very good marketing indeed. I was impressed.

SC is HUGE and the ultimate Sci Fi game in the making. It´s becoming as much a cult as Star Trek, Star Wars and other big franchises are.

Everything that has a truckload of fans is cult.

No problem with that, extraordinary cool and revolutionary stuff attracts many people. Garbage is of course not liked by anybody. Star Wars is like religion for millions of people too.

The single player game is out next year and the multiplayer hopefully the following year.

(from what i read, which has been said like 500 times already)

Chris said he will not make a statement on release dates. You can see that towards the end of the video. So basically: "When it's ready"

Yes. Likewise Jesus was historically the son of god ... .

p.s.You can call him Jesus after this game release, until then leave Steve Jobs rest in peace.

Comparing SC to Star Wars or Star Trek in regards to why it should be considered a religion is a huge train wreck of an analogy. Neither Star Wars nor Star Trek have been accused of scamming thousands of people financially, employee harassment or outlandish spending of company resources. If you want to compare SC to a religion, you might have better luck with Scientology.

What the hell are you talking about? George Lucas has had his fair share of people claiming he's an asshole. Go ahead and google it. Shoot, right here Terrance Stamp says "I didn't feel he was a director of actors, he was more interested in stuff and effects."

As far as scamming people, financially, I can tell you right now that I have spent more money on Star Wars films, film re-releases, and digitally-perfected film re-releases than what I have, or ever would, on SC. Not to mention the countless action figures. I mean it obviously wasn't good enough that we had nearly 100 figures, but we also needed multiple VERSIONS of them, too. Call it what you like, but it really isn't any different from SC. It's capitalizing on a successful brand. That's all! It's no more or less evil than any other product. In the grand scheme of things, you've got a very small window in which to sell your product and any company with the same opportunity to capitalize on a popular brand would do exactly the same. I can not think of a single company who ever said they were going to turn down money.

Wheres the debate? This is just people taking what a woman said out of context, then laugh and jeering. She's already been called a f'ing idiot by someone.

It's just people taking the piss out of her, nothing more, nothing less.
