WC2 was directed and written by the main programmer for WC1.  Roberts was credited as producer, but even his own sources say he wasn't as heavily involved in it as WC1.  Privateer was done by someone else entirely. Only citation for Roberts is for 'original concept'. Privateer 2 was only named that late in production, to cash in on name recognition most likely.  Erin Roberts did that one.

Talking to friends who worked at Origin, one of their many beefs with Roberts was him taking credit for the work of others.   Every Roberts pronouncement is intended to increase the glory of Chris Roberts.  Thus things like the Youtube videos being listed on imdb as TV productions.

I talked to a bunch of folks who worked with him at Origin, and the stories were not pretty.

That's actually the point I was getting at. I don't think that CR has ever been a nuts and bolts guy. Like he's not solely responsible for the success of this product, or whatever else he's been on. I'm not, really, aware of anything where he was, what I would consider, "heavily" involved. I can't even say how heavily involved he is with SC. I've heard of some of the Origin stories, but what I've heard has sounded more like stories of a spoiled child. Ultimately, that shouldn't affect a project, though. He has great concepts. Maybe his ego isn't in check, I don't know. Can't say. Don't know him. However, I wouldn't say that his ego is the driving force behind why SC is late. Also, I wouldn't say that there are many people his equal who I've heard of being humble.

I don;t know about anyone else... but I have never "invested" in a game.  I did pre-order a SC package though.  Hopefully they deliver on the Squadron 42 game which is a game I have wanted for many, many years.

But your "pre-order" is not protected by the same laws as pre-ordering from say a BestBuy...  I think the fact that kickstarter projects can fail and leave the people who paid money with nothing, investing might be a better word.  Unless you pre-ordered from their website after the kickstarter, then I feel it is a pre-order and should be protected under those same laws as pre-ordering from BestBuy.

    I invested (kickstarter)
    I pre-ordered from their website...

It is pgabz, aka major tom updating Smart's game through Steam while having SC open. There are a couple things funny about it, but you kinda need to know pgabz and be in the conversations from which it leaked, like an in-joke.

It's.. people having to find something to chew on since sc tech demo 2.2 is 3 weeks late with conditional invite waves.

Eh, well, there's alot more to the whole story. There's a guy who claims to be a CIG employee, now draconian stimpire suppressor on the subreddit, who gets fewer hits for youtube vids than pgabz. There's alot of discussion of reddit and RSI participants' takes on the current state of affairs, which is sordid and sad. Of course, Smart working the periphery.

This is stuff from one of 4 sites I frequent, checking out what's new, very little of which I bring here, except some art and lampoon videos. Please believe, though my detractors label me a troll here, I'm not flooding the place with a huge portion of the vitriol and unsubstantiated rumors to which I subject myself in these places. I try to keep it mostly clean and with factual citations.

edit: Which is why I think it's funny when people label me negatively. If you want to see some real SC trolls, heh... I'm telling you, I'm a moderate, abeit passionate.

Wow it's 4:30 in the morning here. That paragraph makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Kinda hurts a little.

"draconian stimpire suppressor on the subreddit, who gets fewer hits for youtube vids than pgabz " WTF does that even mean? Stimpire? Subreddit? Pgabz? Is that code for something?

Hell the actual SS Brenics posted made perfect sense. Someone was getting ready to play Mr. Smarts game on Steam while Mr. Roberts game was in the background. Kinda funny I guess. It would have been funnier if this was posted before their was anything by RSI to play, but now their is so...

I assume the funny part was that Line of Defense crashes even more often that Star Citizen Alpha ;-)

According to one big German game magazine it crashed 72 times in 6 hours of testing. Thats more than an order of magnitude more than SC Alpha at its worst times.

Currently i am up to 1 to 2 hours of playing SC Alpha without crash .... and then only when i try something strange (like trying to tunnel through walls to get to unreachable parts ... that worked well in the ArcCorp part once and allowed you to pass through a wall out to the landing pad and fly around the ArcCorp landing site with a Constellation in areas that are still off-limits ...)

Ahh thank you for the clarifications.

Not sure if I would call the video maker a genius though. Misspellings are as common as the glitching he is showing in an alpha game. BTW, have you played any PC games? Because glitching is common even for complete games. Seems a lot of trouble to go through just to troll an unfinished game IMHO.

I Googled Stimpire and saw a few postings by various people, one in some 4Chan (yes, I do know what that abomination is :() community type forum so I stayed away.

Subreddit was new to me though. Kinda like this site: Some really good stuff buried underneath a bunch of crap.

Chris Poole was a 14yo denizen on SA when he built the site you mention. He's subsequently sold it for a discrete, yet substantial, sum of money. Not that it matters alot, but an interesting factoid.
