That will BE the official statement. Most likely you will also see an X-Mas Letter from the Chairman too, with the news on SC Facebook, SC Twitter and SC Reddit.

In that case, I think "coming to live server NOW" is quite misleading.
Internally I'm sure the staff involved will have had an internal deadline to get 2.6 released to alpha before taking a break over Christmas. Looks like they will get their holiday. Which is good imo.

I'm pretty sure the team is exhausted. I suspect that was the primary reason the livestream was so bad.
Yeah, it's all but certain to go live within 24 hours.
Well at least once it goes live those locked out of the game because 2.6 broke 2.5 will be able to play again. Assuming they haven't been invited or paid to be able to access the game they already paid for that is.
Open developmemt - CIG changed engine and didnt think to mention it until after the sale.
Changed Engines = Change the name under what Cryengine is now called as under amazon? The actual relevant change is that this means they will drop Google for the the whole game servers / cloud platform. The big highlight of if that I can see CIG working with is what it has to offer on VR; side of that it's pretty much the same CE they already worked with. But what has any of that to do with the sale? Is it bad news?
They changed Cryengine to Cryengine under another name yes I heard. Lumberjack can be put as Cryengine + AWS + Twitch.
Again how does this relates to the holiday sale and how is it supposedly bad news?
"Making the transition to Lumberyard and AWS has been very easy and has not delayed any of our work, as broadly, the technology switch was a ‘like-for-like’ change, which is now complete."
If you dont know the answers to your questions, then you dont know how truly hosed this project now is.
Maybe if you replied the question instead of dodges like that. You're spinning Lumberjack and the partnership with Amazon as a bad thing for Star Citizen, it's up to you to explain why then.
Lumberjack is Cryengine; I see this more about the platform included with it, AWS, than it would be about the actual game engine. Lumberjack differs mostly on the online features it does offer, to work with their platform (AWS) so that might very well be what CIG is after.
So after CIG rewrote over 50% of CE you still think ita going to slide right in?
Well one would think that. Though what was claimed today already multiple times, is that the process to move to Lumberjack is complete:
Updated: I've had a response from CIG director of communications, David Swofford, to say that the relationship between CIG and Amazon is that of them being a regular licensee of Amazon's technology. The reason for the announcement today was that it was turned on with the release of 2.6. He also confirmed that all the work CIG had done to expand the CryEngine has been transitioned to the new engine.
To me it shows it wasn't about any merge of engines (as of codebases with CIG's custom version of CE) yet just make use of the platform and online features that Amazon has put into Lumberjack into SC.
Its not core Cryenegine but neither was the version CiG supposedly rebuilt.
So this seriously begs the question of if CiG TRULY rebuilt Cryengine then why would they partner up wioth Amazon and use a version that shouldnt be as good as the one they (CiG) allegedly did?
Basically all Lumberjack does is make interfacing with media and social media more streamlined. It reduced lag and apparently has a different type of processor. Hard to say since no one has really seen it in action yet. But I would tend to believe Amazon over most since they are a company run by actual business people.
But I doubt very highly what Amazon has relabeled is any way shape or form better than the thing these guys claimed to have rebuilt. Therefore either they (CiG) lied or Amazon is WAY underselling this new version.

see it in action right now on lumberyard.
I can say my patch is downloading about 30% to 40% faster than before and the guy on twitch says its running really well so far.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
The social media and such, couldn't be any more wrong as what Lumberjack is all about. The AWS platform is the big point and that is what can (and seems it already did) replace Google Cloud as what would run Star Citizen.
Depending of how stuff was working with Google, they could have been also put this under Lumberjack as a better deal to run the cloud platform of the game upon.

Does not make a difference to me as I am already playing it on PTU.

Also, if that was really true - why would you change the wording?
Anyway, whatever...
See post changed above while you were writing.

But it doesn't really matter. So let's leave it be
