I wonder if this was worked out by the attorney's that each site would take down the offending content or something else was up?
Most likely a mutual agreement (and done silently) between the company that owns The Escapist (Defy Media I think?) and CIG.
What is interesting because one would think both sides had dropped the ball on the whole story back then. Unexpected that almost 2 years later the articles got taken down.
I would say the Escapist took its down first because it was mostly unsubstantiated bullshit and conjecture that they could not back up after further investigation, hence making them look bad by keeping the original up. Then CIG took its response down because their was no use in it anymore.
My 2p.
Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.

Seeing the timeframe it seems CIG's reply was taken down first (voluntarily? agreed upon?). What it shows is that CIG did not let go and pursued their intent after all.
I guess lawyers must have been involved for this process to have taken this long. :skull:
The Escapist scaled down a year later because the site, like most, is losing money
I have it on good authority that they have been going back and
forth with legal bullshit since 2015. Just like I was with Ortwin back
in 2015
Legal bills cost money
A parent company for a site that's not making money, isn't
going to continue spending money on inconsequential bullshit that's not
going to MAKE them money
CIG is mostly funded by backer money that we know of. Aside from unknown loans and investors
CIG is in a legal song and dance with Defy Media, who has to respond via attorneys
Attorneys cost money. CIG has disposable income via backers. Defy does not have money to blow on The Escapist. They raised $70m in Sept 2016 to further their operations (they have other profitable properties)
It appears both sides decided to withdraw, rather than continue spending money on inconsequential bullshit
The End
If Defy Media was willing to continue spending money to fight a story they PUBLICLY
stood behind, it stands to reason that it would be in court by now. Not
a mutual removal of the stories - 2 years later. Especially considering
that the onus was on CIG to disprove the allegations cited in the
article; while defending the defamatory statements made in CIG's
diatribe. CIG would have completely LOST such a case; and especially since I would have been dragged into it
What do you think? Just because he is an antagonist of the project does not mean that every single word he writes is bullshit. If you start thinking like that then you're setting yourself up for a very restricted view on things.
If you want to be that anal then one could ask why you're browsing the SA forums? Sleeping with the enemy are we?

I think he has one agenda behind what he writes and that he will twist and be as one-sided as he possibly can to fit the narrative he wants to transmit. From the conjectures to unsupported claims followed by "my sources". Anything relevant to a base of truth or fact that is not stuff being "milked" (copy/pasted for years) is a fraction of that content.
That said I don't browse the SA forums, but I inform myself on both sides, it's kinda of a morbid curiosity thing, for every positive there'll be a Smart explaining how that positive thing is actually a bad thing.

I doubt it, if what was stated in the article turned out to be true, I think there would be lot more than just a investigation by a relatively unknown site.
Another thing for me is, why did these "sources" choose to go with a company like the escapist, but not big news outlets or a relatively well known site that would have had the influence and resources to undergo and investigation like this? As I said, if what was posted turned out to be true, CIG would be fucked.
Feel they got their time wasted and both decided it was time to put it to bed.

There was the Kotaku one, but that one actual investigation and proper journalism. The Escapists article shown its intent on creating impact, bold claims, making everything look as bad as it possibly can, it's like those who when a disaster happens the one that reports the highest number of victims "wins". But you're right on how the big outlets weren't involved, before and after that event.
I think most media seems to be keeping a distance from SC as they dont know what to make of it. Its not a normal game whichever way you look at it (good or bad).
A lot of it is i believe to do with the financial model. When it becomes clearer where all the money has gone you will see more media coverage, either positive or negative. Right now the jury is out as to whether it will lead to a good game that people want to play, a skeleton version of the dream or a niche space shooter.
I think they look quite good. Maybe not better than Black Desert but hopefully still good enough and with enough variation to create some realistic cool avatars.
Honestly the game will never be released. This is just a project that made over 150 million dollars over 5 years. They release snippets and videos about what they are working on in order to keep people interested and they are under no obligation to finish the game nor do they have any reason to. However they do have a major reason NOT to finish the game and that is because they are making millions of dollars in donations by not finishing it. For instance the past month they made over 2 million dollars. The past 6 months they have made over $26 million in donations. Its non stop donations. Where is all this money going? Its not a large team either

I don't know what you consider a large team, and I am not sure how many they have right now, but in last video I saw, they said they had about 200 employees in UK only. Now, if that isn't a "large" team, I don't know what.
They are using their resources on good stuff. They are getting better and bigger offices, providing A LOT of content and information with newsletters, blog posts, videos, magazines.
And yes, a lot of their stuff are buggy right now, but it's definitely not more laggy or less content than games that are releasing these days. You can just take a look at like Mass Effect.

I didnt know about 200 employees. What exactly are these 200 employees doing? Again they have no monetary reason to finish the game hence 150 million dollars 5 years later and growing exponentially lately. I would love for this gam to finish. I have been waiting for a space exploration game with amaxzing graphics like this for yeeaars. But when you see them focusing on tiny details like eye color and veins in the corner of the characters eyes and the color of t-shirt under the armor while moving slowly with the major content that is a worry. It signals over ambition. Not good. Again, i want the game to release but i dont think they want to for the monetary reason ive stated.
CIG begging people to test out the latest PTU build even if it's just for 5 minutes. Downloading 20GB every day for 5 for 6 bug fixes is taking its toll, they really need to get the delta patching sorted asap

Don't forget the SC download is also taking a shit on some people's routers when it opens thousands of connections and eats your entire bandwidth so if you want to do anything else your out of luck

From the last updates, Delta patching is an ongoing dev. It doesn't seem it is as easy as people are around were claiming it was. They are at the moment rolling the first builds to developers to use delta patching, however, it is not yet being used for the actual game builds internally.
They need this as much as players do, after all, they need to download several builds of the game a day so that must be one annoying slow-down.

The routers that derp with many connections made to them (due the torrenting nature) can fix that by tweaking the number of connections at the setting file, the speeds are not affected by it. The number should be reduced by default though

Someone in the reddit tried that and it's still opening thousands of connections lol they need to buy a new router

Totally NOT biased ;-)
Keep posting your speculations. Let's wait for someone that knows some facts.
Have fun
@Erillion seeing the writer, that sets the tone.
Did you miss the bit where I explictly stated "The following is not something that I put together...."

Perhaps what they need to do is implement a dong slider based on how much money a person has spent. That would be rather appropriate...
