Citing make believe numbers (from both sides) doesnt do anyone any good. The pro camp should probably embrace the fact they HAVENT raised as much money as they claim simply because what people have seen cannot justify any such number. But at this point that is also a positive they can hang their hat on as they claim 'made the most money of any kickstarter ever' problem is if the numbers are fake and the game is a flop what good does that do?
Is this the angle we're moving to now, they never had that money to begin with? Which is a fact?
thatd the thing there are no real facts or proof of anything. Other than what we can see with our own eyes or they have tried to show people.
This game has been all hype and a money making machine for almost 5 years, so if there were really more to show besides the tech demo people are 'playing' we would see it. Because its the hype generating the money. Do I believe its 110 million? No I dont. But I dont know how much it really is. Enough to pay all the people he has hired and rent officers and cars and buy houses on a few continents (unless he is just leasing those). So it is probably a significant number, but how much has gone DIRECTLY into the game itself? NO one can or will answer that question.
But when numbers stopped adding up they start the 'subscriber' to the 'developmental news' and started using that (someone in this thread doesnt think theyre counting it but then again who is to say) but if they do have subscribers for simple news (when most people wont sub to an actual game) then it tells people everything they need to know about the type of people funding this project.
We are almost 4 months into 2016, when was the release date again? For just the first phase which isnt even an MMO? How much more time will it take to release the actual MMO part after that? Any time table? Where was the game/demo/alpha supposed to be now? I could have sworn they claimed they were going to update the alpha every month, which I suppose they technically have but if it makes more bugs and really doesnt expand on what is already there, other than a reskinning of a ship is that really an update?
A year from now and theyre still on some alpha stage then what? After they claim they had to reinvent something else to make the game truly epic. What then? The remaking and reinventing and remodeling excuses have to have an expiration date dont they? Thats why I say is a con (depending on definition) because a con is simply milking money from someone or something for as long as you can, or as quick as you can) for something that doesnt come close to equal value. Or no value at all.
To be specific I was asking about this sentence.

At least you didn't pretend to care about backers (, I support any post that seems honest, and doesn't present a facade in intention).. .
As for the rest of this stuff, I question it all as much as the next person, such worries are inevitable when you're talking a crowdfunded game, which is essentially a project beholden to no one. They have no one aside from the guy in charge to push for better progress... When the guy in charge, is the guy essentially responsible for holding back progress (only to add more to the scope), such feelings are understandable.

It's cringe worthy how some people don't understand the difference between some of these words such as, prototyping, and development. What are you anti-fans going to do when this argument is over? Are you going to get over it, and move on with your life? Or are you going to sit here still talking trash about things you don't have proof of? Maybe you guys should switch over to a different conspiracy, like JFK or something. Might be a better use of your time.
Wait... what?? LOL
Its cringe worthy when people make comments that are so completely wrong. You do realize that a prototype is part of a development process don't you? Ahh, silly me, of course you didnt know, based off your post anyway.
Just a tiny example brah...
Good sir, I believe you just got owned. Not everybody includes a prototype in their software development, but that doesn't make it separate from the development either.

I believe his point was there's a difference between a prototype and a project that is in active development (prototyping is essentially proof of concept, a tech demo, mostly used to get a project green-lit, or test a feature before adding it to the overall product). Beat him at semantics? yes, argued his point? not at all.

Oh yeah, you really got me there with your wonderful .gif, now you can take that and go make your own game. Let me know how the prototyping goes. It doesn't change the fact you're beating a dead horse, we've gone through this debate last year, fiances were discussed for weeks striaght. It always ended up at the same point, which is, it doesn't matter [mod edit]. Till there's actual proof of wrongdoing, nothing anyone says is going to make a difference. " The pro camp should probably embrace the fact they HAVENT raised as much money as they claim"-Rodarin
At least you didn't pretend to care about backers (, I support any post that seems honest, and doesn't present a facade in intention).. .
No I dont care about backers especially the ones who (according to the propaganda) are paying sub fees for new updates or guys who (according to CiG) continue to 'contribute' millions of dollars a month to this thing.
As for the specific statement. The pro camp should most definitely consider embracing the idea that they havent raised that much money because I really cant see how they can justify what they see with what has been raised. Unless there is a 95% completed game sitting somewhere that only needs a few simple tweaks and in reality is even past the beta phase (which even the most hardcore believer wouldnt dare presume).
This thing (again according to propaganda) has raised over ONE HUNDRED AND TEN million dollars. Look at the games that have come out recently, how much do you think their budgets were? What if DAUM said BDO only cost 100 million and 5 years to make? Would that put it in perspective? But that is obvious conjecture. But we do know other games that are out there, released and pre released and we can definitely compare those and we know (sort of) how much they made before they were made available to the public. Non of them are even close to what this game has to work with. Now the obvious argument is (and will continue to be) ''theyre not as epic or huge or 'ambitious' as Star Citizen is", which might be OK for awhile, but the shelf life of that excuse is aging fast as well. But what those games are is playable. One could say so is SC, but not for the 110 million dollar price tag.
All these arguments are circular and logic based. With a lot of 'if' and 'then' connectors. I know most peopel wont get that but at a point they are common sense. But the most basic of alll of them is IF this game has raised that type of money THEN people (backers especially) should expect more than what they see. And IF they dont raise 3 million a month development will slow THEN it is safe to assume they dont have 110 million 'in the bank' or even enough to pay their people. In essence even after 110 million raised CiG is going month to month. Even if they spent 60 million they should have 40-50 million left IF that number is true, THEN they (should) have over a years worth of 'working' capital left. So a statement like Roberts made isnt logical. Unless he is lying (or as his believer would think using a sales pitch) or they dont have the money. Neither of which is a positive. Now sales pitches are fine, but not after you have already raised 110 million dollars, sold who knows how many jpegs, and charge a sub for 'news'.
IF they have spent all 110 million (again believing everything we read from them) and this is all there is THEN how much is this game going to cost overall? And IF it has taken 4 years (some will say as many as five) and we are at where we are now THEN how long is it going to take to have it COMPLETELY released? Especially now that they have compartmentalized it even more. IF a new tech or 'better' way of doing something comes along THEN willl they start over again?
I have said that before and said it as my first argument about MMOs in general that they will never ever keep up with the technology and any game that takes more than a year to be released will be old before it comes out. But it looks like that has been the reason as to why Roberts continues to delay and redo this project. It might not be a scam he might actually want to make the game 'modern', but it can never be done with the time frames it takes. He should know better. But that brings us to another legit argument and the most obvious and history backed one, the guy has never ever been in charge (never really even on the project at all) when a game he has been a part of actually goes public.
And finally, he only had to make a game better than EvE when he started, but now that Elite Dangerous has released SC has to be better than that. So that game definitely made SC more complicated and more expensive. Because how can he release something not as good as game made for the price of a pack of cigarettes?
Its a mess and it gets messier. On some things you mIGHT be able to give them the benefit of the doubt and use some (twisted) logic to see where they are coming from, but with so many convoluted arguments you have to make to make those reasonable they dont all pass the logic tests. And they just look like more arguments a con man makes when they try and explain why something isnt getting finished and why more money is need to fund said con. Because like I said every great on has SOME logic and SOME truth behind it.
But again to close with your direct statement. Either they have the money and are using it (properly), they raised the money but pissed it all away and now need more, they didnt raise the money and it was all a propaganda tool. Those are basically the choices. The only one that is positive for people who want to see the game made is the first one but that one doesnt pass the eye test for me, and for a lot of people actually.
You do know there is a time gap between when the money is raised and when something is made because that money is available right?
Or do you actually think that because £110 million has been raised that £110 millions worth of development should be available to see now?
Has it crossed your mind that perhaps money is still allocated for future development and running costs for the lifecycle of the project and that while allocated it has not been 'spent' yet?
If you bought a car over 5 years you get the car first and don't spend all the money till 5 years are past. Game development is like that except you get the car at the END of the 5 years.
You are sitting in the car frame complaining that the car doesn't work when you still have 6 months left till they send you the tires.
This thing (again according to propaganda) has raised over ONE HUNDRED AND TEN million dollars. Look at the games that have come out recently, how much do you think their budgets were?
--> The games that have already come out have already USED their 110 M$ (or whatever it was). Which is not the case with SC.
**snip**
Non of them are even close to what this game has to work with.
--> Go ahead and post that link
Now the obvious argument is (and will continue to be) ''theyre not as epic or huge or 'ambitious' as Star Citizen is", which might be OK for awhile, but the shelf life of that excuse is aging fast as well.
--> Not really. I am keepin a close eye on new game developments (especially space sims) and with the exception of E:D nothing (existing or planned) is even close to SC.
But what those games are is playable. One could say so is SC, but not for the 110 million dollar price tag.
All these arguments are circular and logic based.
--> Debatable .. see above and below.
With a lot of 'if' and 'then' connectors. I know most peopel wont get that but at a point they are common sense.
--> What YOU think is not necessarily equal to "common sense".
But the most basic of alll of them is IF this game has raised that type of money THEN people (backers especially) should expect more than what they see. And IF they dont raise 3 million a month development will slow THEN it is safe to assume
--> What YOU assume does not have to do a lot with reality.
they dont have 110 million 'in the bank' or even enough to pay their people. In essence even after 110 million raised CiG is going month to month.
--> Would you NOT take 3 M$ a month if people give it to you voluntarily ? I would take the money.
Even if they spent 60 million they should have 40-50 million left IF that number is true, THEN they (should) have over a years worth of 'working' capital left. So a statement like Roberts made isnt logical.
--> It is simply a statement that he cannot employ 260+ employees forever unless he brings in 3 M$ per month. Which is NOT equal to him saying that he has already spent all the 110 M$.
Unless he is lying (or as his believer would think using a sales pitch) or they dont have the money. Neither of which is a positive. Now sales pitches are fine, but not after you have already raised 110 million dollars,
--> Again ... if people give the money voluntarily, WHY oh WHY should he refuse to take it ?!
sold who knows how many jpegs, and charge a sub for 'news'.
--> A subscription fee that is entirely voluntary and freely given. You get all the information even without the fee, just a bit later. All subscriber fluff and decoration items can also be obtained later in the game through in game play.
IF they have spent all 110 million (again believing everything we read from them)
--> No one at CIG has ever claimed to have fully spent that 110 M$. That is what YOU claim.
and this is all there is THEN how much is this game going to cost overall?
--> We will know when its finished.
And IF it has taken 4 years (some will say as many as five) and we are at where we are now THEN how long is it going to take to have it COMPLETELY released?
--> Hopefully "As long as it takes !"
--> Actually the rapid advance in computer technology means that once SC comes out it can be played on many more rigs than people expected in 2012. Back then it was generally believed that one really needed a high end rig to properly play SC.
It might not be a scam he might actually want to make the game 'modern', but it can never be done with the time frames it takes. He should know better. But that brings us to another legit argument and the most obvious and history backed one, the guy has never ever been in charge
--> Keep telling yourself that. Its not true, but if it makes you happy, keeping repeating it. See below:
(never really even on the project at all) when a game he has been a part of actually goes public.
--> Chris Roberts was not in Origin when Wing Commander went public ? Interesting .. and wrong.
And finally, he only had to make a game better than EvE when he started,
--> Never ever was there a claim that SC should be "only better than EVE". It ALWAYS - ever since the Kickstarter campaign - aimed much higher than current EVE (and even EVE with all its plans of walking in station etc.)
but now that Elite Dangerous has released SC has to be better than that.
--> Being a backer of both E:D and SC it was always clear to me that they essentially aim for the same kind of endgame (after many years of development). They just have chosen vastly different routes of achieving that goal. Incremental/procedural vs completed/mostly "hand-made".
So that game definitely made SC more complicated and more expensive.
---> I doubt that. Again ... as Roberts and Braben are in contact (we know that from their public communication and congratulation notes) they know quite well (for years now!) what the other has planned. And i doubt they did change much because of the other game. If anything "No Mans Sky" has influenced SC more than E:D with their procedurally generated content (of which E:D uses more than SC at the moment).
Because how can he release something not as good as game made for the price of a pack of cigarettes?
--> I do not want to know what a pack of cigarettes costs at your place. FYI Elite:Dangerous costs more than a pack of cigarettes ;-)
***snip**
Because like I said every great on has SOME logic and SOME truth behind it.
But again to close with your direct statement. Either they have the money and are using it (properly)
--> And have plenty of money left and (understandably) do no duck if people continue to throw bags of money at them.
, they raised the money but pissed it all away and now need more, they didnt raise the money and it was all a propaganda tool. Those are basically the choices. The only one that is positive for people who want to see the game made is the first one but that one doesnt pass the eye test for me, and for a lot of people actually.
--> But as almost all of those people are not backers (or not backers anymore) "in essentia" they do not matter, because as a crowdfunding game this is a game for backers and no one else.
You do know there is a time gap between when the money is raised and when something is made because that money is available right?
Or do you actually think that because £110 million has been raised that £110 millions worth of development should be available to see now?

I alluded to it with the 'if they spent (allocated) 60 million' comment, they should have 50 million left, which is a years worth of capital, if the game is going to be done in a year they should have enough money already right? Another one of those pesky If Then statements people cant answer.
"But as almost all of those people are not backers (or not backers anymore) "in essentia" they do not matter, because as a crowdfunding game this is a game for backers and no one else."
LOL so then it is ok for us to warn people the game is only for backers and no matter how much those backers give to Robert's you will have to spend more money on the game once it releases. So then we are clear there should be no more attacks and people like me can warn people what they could be getting involved in.
Typical spin where you didnt answer anything and regurgitated the same tired links that have already been debunked.
But you use every conmans defense since the beginning of time...why is it is crime if its given freely? The simple answer...it was given freely based on 'facts' and proposals that were never intended to be delivered.
Just because dummies believe everything someone says and gives them money or time or whatever based on lies or misrepresentation doesnt make it OK, it is actually the exact opposite, its a crime.
again we cant say for sure that that is happening (yet) and it may never ever be able to be proven, but if the sum of all the stuff bought and paid for by backers or whatever for personal shit Roberts and family/friends accumulated has a higher value than the game (which more than likely couldnt be proven either) then its a scam.
Of course victims of cons try to justify it (because like I always say its easier to con people than to convince them they have been conned) by thinking "well he should be paid for the work he did''. So as long as Roberts delivers something, even if its complete garbage many of the believers will think he held up his end of the bargain even if he raised and spent 250 million on a game that anyone else could have delivered for 20. All while buying a few houses a half dozen cars, and anything else he did to live a lavish lifestyle over the length of the project.
--> You have been doing that for a year now ... what is new here ?
the game is only for backers
--> It is. Its a crowdfunding game.
and no matter how much those backers give to Robert's you will have to spend more money on the game once it releases.
--> Only if they want. Not mandatory.
So then we are clear there should be no more attacks
--> So you will stop attacking Star Citizen ? Not that I would believe you ... ;-)
and people like me can warn people what they could be getting involved in.
---> Again ... you have been doing that for over a year now.
--> It just does not seem to work ;-) as we have seen hundredthousands more "Star Citizens" and "UEE Fleet" ships.
--> So let me personally thank you (AGAIN) for your ceaseless efforts in helping us backers to make Star Citizen well known ...
Thanks I agree 100%.
---> Have fun
We agree again, it is well known but not as a game, but as a scam to get more money from anyone foolhardy enough to give it to them. Even posts on official forums are starting to disappear fast because they are so negative.
The demos always look so unpopulated, even for an alpha. Maybe more NPC's at least. Otherwise it's more of a car dealership type of thing.

It does not work like that. That's not the way you take part in any discussion.
To to a certain degree I can understamd someone hardcore critics...
Overall their ambition is born out of fear to be scammed... to be cheated... that their expectations, whatever these might be, might not be met. Especially the more informed critics seem to have been supporters of the project but as soon as things did not work out as they imagined it they switched sides. That is just a guess. I am convinced that there are critics that have not been supporters but have been against the project from the start. Where this general "anti" behavior comes from is a psychological thing on which I do not want to dive deep into. Simplistically said this comes from negative experiences from their past where things did not work out all all for them, i.e. being scammed or cheated, believed people who are imposters, etc.
I have my own fears and worries about the project but I am able to adjust my expectations and wait for a final product which I can judge by then. Until then I do not arrogate to criticize something I do not have complete knowledge of which does not mean that I do not educate myself about the matter.
Even if I have knowledge and experience in project management, advertising, etc. I do not claim to have any understanding of it in dependencies to game development because it is a completely different field than IT security or financial consultation.
Point 1 and 2 are 100% inaccurate. Point 3 is debatable.

All of that guy's videos are intended to be sensationalist, sarcastic lampoons. He also mislabels ship names, misspells words and misrepresents the game as a "chariot theft simulator". It's part of the humor.

Thanks we agree again!

Someone quote this for Adj as he ignores me because he can't get away with posting bullshit without me pointing it out to him.
