Now before you all attack me let me be clear this isn't an attack against CIG or Chris/Sandi but want your input on what you think about a project they heavily promoted.


The kickstarter boardgame star traders is currently underway and they are trying to update the old 80's boardgame of the same name. You can see the project here https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/239709734/star-traders


Chris and CIG have been promoting this game either through his blog or having interviews on the CIG twitch channel but the creator seems to have been stealing art assets from deviantart. He's since edited the images to not show as much of the full body and to remove any full character shots from their facebook saying "they are taking care of it" but it seems pretty shitty to use someone else's work without credit to try and profit off it

Do you think Chris and Sandi will be guilty by association for promoting it and having their likeness associated with it? They already court controversy as it is so perhaps what's a little more thrown in the pot?

Honestly sounds like a witch hunt trying to place any blame anywhere but on the artist who provided the artwork. 

As was mentioned the 3 faces used were his personal friends and the artwork used temporary and the entire game is a parody of the subject matter. 

Even if they were blatantly doing something bad, to even suggest that Chris and Sandy should have a finger pointed at them too just shows why any reasonable conversation is impossible. By that logic all the donors are guilty too.

I would assume you mean Derek Smart? Your boogeyman? I actually haven't read his Twitter in a while so no that's not my source. You seem to stalk his Twitter quite a bit though.

This board game isn't the only one CR promoted via CIG forums.

A while back he did a hefty promotion for Kingdom Come: Deliverance with videos, developer interview and encouraging his backers to have a look at the project.

So, if Kingdom Come devs screw up you will make another post asking " Do you think Chris and Sandi will be guilty by association for promoting it and having their likeness associated with it? " ?

The way haters extrapolate irrelevant bits of info into full blown, anti CR propaganda is mind boggling. It goes beyond not liking a game or not agreeing with the management of a project.

I read you post. I read all the comments on the twitter feed. I gave my honest opinion based on the information available. 

As I said, any chance of reasonable conversation is impossible and you just proved it.

I really have to laugh at this, at least Sandi should not have had that life size model showing in "Around the Verse". It makes her and Roberts look guilty. Roberts being so connected to hollywood I would have expected him to see the Plagiarism. 



If Roberts is involved in any of this Plagiarism it could cost him big time. No I do not mean CIG cash I mean his personal holdings. But if they can link it to RSI/CIG that could mean game over. Going to be an interesting April starting on fools day!

Well its no surprise at all that they would have their names attached to a shady project that's stealing art from another source (as confirmed in your links).

So yeah, pretty much guilty by association considering their own project (star citizen) is considered by a large group of people as being a scam, or in such a bad state internally that it will never see a proper release.

As for my opinion, no. I don't think they can or should be guilty by association. That's like saying Billy Mays is responsible for Oxy Clean not getting a stain out of your favorite t-shirt. Even if you could somehow pin something on them for this, it's so pathetically inconsequential compared to all their other shady shenanigans that it's just laughable.

I have to agree and bring Billy Mays into it like you did shows why Roberts and CIG shouldn't be responsible for it. Nice way of putting it.  

As long as he has no money in the game and it is in no way connected to any of his 14 or 15 company's then all should be good. But looking at the game it may be connected in some way. Time will tell.

I think the problem is we're all gated out... Muralgate, EscapeGate, Impossiblegate, RacistGate, Fatgate, ScamGate... I don't think we have enough material left for interviewedGuygate..

But what I think is being pointed out is that all this ridiculous nitpicking is strange. And one has to wonder does it have some singular force driving it.  And we all know who that is.  So no, we don't insert him in every conversation, he does that all by himself by stirring the pot from afar, and you know this is true.

But instead you are disingenuous and try to deflect and try to make anyone pointing this out to seem obsessed with this person.  But the opposite is true, we wish he would go away, because he's the obsessed person in this story.

I first discovered it on Kickstarter because I like board games and was looking for one to back. It's not hard when it's in the comments section. From there it's not all that hard to read the campaign and see Chris and Sandi pledged and it was promoted through CIG twitch. At that point, and I know this is going to be hard for some here to comprehend, I did some actual research to find out more.

I really don't need to deflect and try and make anyone look obsessed with Derek Smart, they do it all themselves with their posts. I didn't offer my opinion because it would have been attacked and made the focus of the discussion instead of what I asked. Of course it looks like it wouldn't have mattered anyway since it somehow turned into a Derek Smart is responsible for all of this. God I really hope he doesn't post any research articles I am ever interested in or I will need to ignore them because he is clearly trolling science.

I still do not grasp why you had to make a post about all this on SC forums pointing fingers at CR, waiting for the hate squad to arrive and start throwing s**t at him like they always do.

What was the purpose of this thread other than the obvious one ?

As i mentioned above, CR promoted Kingdom Come : Deliverance as well. If anything goes wrong with this product, if a developer does something shady or whatever will you come here again asking us "what we think" ?
