Ignore what. Post details from before January specifics of how, why, what reason, what consequence that mirrors the current state.

Please don't link stuff like, "well, we think it's bad", "we're going to do something", "it's not going to be like that", "people will be punished", because that's all generic, and please link where they planned for 3 years to call 2.2 a "goon patch".

So you are only doing all this for this:

The best thing about all this is when this answer (given in Jan 2014) becomes completely meaningless when they figure out they cant do it. I imagine them trying to do this is what has caused the delay of the persistent game world (universe) for over 18 months.

The thing to remember in our server set up is that we have one central server that is basically the general tasking server, but the actual servers that would handle the local instance information when you're flying in space dogfighting against someone or figuring out when you're on a planet what the other people are doing right next to you, they're actually going to be mostly distributed around the world. So that's where the local instance servers spin up, and what happens is the master server is really the match making server.
It's sort of going "Ok you and you, I'm putting you together in the same instance server," and it has a whole set of criteria when it does that matchmaking. So a large part of it is the friends list so it will try to match you with your friends, and also it will do things like, we'll try and have, if you want to do PvP put maybe some of your enemies in there and people of similar skill levels. This is by the way just to stress in the case that you're in an area that there are more people than can fit in any one instance.
If there's enough people just for one instance, everyone will be in the same instance. With a few exceptions. Like if someone is in a safe area and they don't want PvP, and someone just wants PvP, then maybe there would be two instances, one for the PvP, one without the PvP. But generally what happens is, there's a whole sort of matchmaking criteria and it's based on ping, friends list, associates, persons of interest, enemies, skill level, and it uses that criteria to match you up dynamically as you move around. As you fly around space, you go from area to area, it's matching you up and putting you in different instances and it's doing exactly the same down on the planet.

So what would happen if someone is in America and Australia is, depending on what you tell the game, it probably would not opt to put you together if the ping was high, but you certainly could say "Hey you know what, I want to hang out with my friends no matter what, even if my pin is bad," and in that case the friend relationship would trump the ping in terms of the matchmaking criteria.
So generally we would default to trying to keep you flying with people at low pings, but if you specifically say "I want to be with this person" we'll make an exception for you. So I hope that answers you question BigDamnHeroes.

i don't know what is more funny. the fact that less than a 100 people (goons posting about Star citizen) is dictating what CIG is doing. the fact that even pro-star citizen backers believe that goons controls CIG.

You really can't search when they only have a concept demo and no real game in site of being complete. Only rumors of them working on a game.

They had some nice Star Marine action another company worked on but that was scrapped.

They had been saying Star Citizen was being made but that was put on hold.

Now they are going full steam on Squadron 42 which the concept demo is suppose to show.

Well what would you call it? Can't be a alpha since alpha would at least have all the basic systems in place. It would be buggy as shit and there would be placeholder graphics all over the place but everything that matters would be there.

This would be a concept demo or tech demo that is generally used to show off to investors. You show a small slice of the game world that is missing most major systems but it looks pretty.

Erlillion said CIG is doing this because Goons were making funny videos from the PU.

If this is true, a multi-million dollar company is being controlled by less than a 100 from an internet comedy forum.

If this isn't true, even pro-CIG fans think so little of CIG that they believe CIG is being controlled by goons.

    Both are equally funny.

I said no such thing that the Goons controll CIG.

I said that forming an Evocati group of experienced volunteer testers that have proven their talent as dedicated testers through their work in the Issue Council is IMHO good for Star Citizen. And that i personally think that it is more useful than potentially having 250.000 testers of which only 1 % send in bug reports - most of those being useless because they are not detailed enough.

The question was if the NDA makes sense. I said yes and posted this text:

"Perhaps CIG does not want to give the Goons/SomethingAwful.com commandoes comedy video material from early builds that still have bugs in it.

Under NDA making their usual  "Best of early bugs" video lands the Goon/SA player that leaked it in hot water.

I suspect the Evocati builds will be "watermarked" ... should not be too hard to identify leaks."

I suspect you have misread this as "The Mittani is the éminence grise behind Chris Roberts" .... wishful thinking ?

You are inferring here the possibility that CIG has chosen actions in response, or at least in relation, to the actions and behaviors of people who have moved to ridicule SC. Just as when you proudly referred to 2.2 as "goon patch" on its release, you're not, for some reason, realizing the fact that you're announcing how you understand "goons" and "goon videos" are affecting the decisions CIG makes, what priorities CIG assigns to patch content and policy.

Another thing you refuse to relent is that not all people making videos are your "goon" bogeymen. Not even all people who read SA are "goons". Ben Lesnick defended goons at first, saying, "they're not all bad". There are former goons (or people who used the significator of goon culture) who now support the game, i guess, if piping in and insulting anti-fans, yet knowing nothing about the game counts as "your side". See the grenade as this person's former chat avatar? That is goon symbology.

    http://forums.mmorpg.com/profile/DirtyDozen

So I'm not really led to believe you understand much, if at all, about that subculture, the shared goals or "who is a goon vs who is not". I don't really even understand why you bring it up, except only that you read "this is the evil culprit!" and parrot that, as if being profound.

    @Adjuvant1

You seem to be terrible at inferring. Get in line with those people that tell ME what I THINK  ;-)

I have fought with Goons. And more. I have fought against Goons. For almost 10 years now. Go ahead, tell me something about the Goons ;-) I do not have to parrot, i have first hand experience over a decade and multiple games.

There are some good people there. There are some total assholes there too. I do not care for the later. Amongst the former are some creative artists that created some great propaganda stuff in EVE. Sadly none of them seem to work on Star Citizen related stuff since that "Goonrathi War" video almost 2.5 years ago.

Most of all i know that Goons / SA / 4chan love to metagame. They chose certain games or internet projects and try to turn them upside down. Wether its Tay the Microsoft AI, EVE Online or Star Citizen. They worship freedom. Especially of speech/expression.

But many of them overlook that their freedom ends where someone else's freedom starts. Freedom is traditionally understood as independence of the arbitrary will of another.

I find it ironic that freedom fighters force their will on others (e.g. in Star Citizen by camping the spawn area in earlier SC builds and killing indiscriminately through suicide attacks).

So we are back where have started.
A multi-million dollar company is letting less than 100 people from an internet comedy forum control their actions by putting up an NDA or fanboys think so little of CIG that they think it can be true.

    Either way is extremely amusing.

If you think 100 nameless morons are unable to do harm using the internet you are very naive.

And NDA's has been in place for longer then I have been alive and are used for very sound and practical business reasons.

Your comments are the amusing part of this thread.
