The MVP will launch around January. *my opinion* *redacted*

Just studying the way everything is being presented and how CIG is presenting things.  It appears the MVP is very very close to being completed.  According to my personal studies this game should see the MVP no later then February 2017.  Meanwhile this year's citizencon should provide us with a playable Star Marine, and at least 1 complete solar system, and a mission from SQ42.  Looking forward to see how it all unfolds.

"At this time I would like to redact my prediction because *surprised* we were lied to and it was overhyped yet again to make us believe it was on a track that it really wasn't on."

Let me guess - this is a promise straight from Chris Roberts - and not just some random bullshit bait you just conjured up, right?

If we're lucky, we might see 2.7 around january - but that's completely subject to change.

I wouldn't expect anything approaching MVP before december 2017. My personal "guestimate" would be late 2018.

    Dear OP.

Feel free to post your source for this amazing prediction and the data that forms the basis for your "personal studies". Clearly you have inside knowledge from the Roberts brothers themselves. Share it with us please.

Or was it just your personal opinion ?!

CIG has been telling us that everything is ready.  Now all they need to do is put it together.

Wait, they DID day Squadron 42 was due in 2016. I mean, I remember commenting about it in January sometime. I was wondering what the new excuse would be in 2017 when it wasn't released yet. Is Squadron 42 going to be released this year?

He was asking for a source, not another extreme misinterpretation from you.

Let me guess, when developers say things are finally coming together - that translates into filmoretian for "Everything is 100% ready - we just need to put it together, which obviously can't take more than 6 months" - right?

    I don't believe we'll see it in 2016.

I'm not aware of any official promise, post-scope change, but I think their "excuse" will be that it's not ready.

AFAIK, SQ42 was always supposed to launch before the PU-version of SC.

    So, either:
    • the OP's prediction is wrong
    • or SQ42 will launch in the next 4 months.

I'd go with the OP's prediction being off... :D

The MVP that soon is absolutely delusional.

I mean they shared some road-mapping for stuff we'd see this year, there's already hints that 2.7 with the solar system and PG Planets is likely the last major update of the year.

And even that comes with an IF 2.7 will reach a live release this year.

Not to talk that this amazing prediction pretty much skips the existence of the beta stage.

The last 20% of the work can take 80% of the schedule. Pulling it all together might prove to be the most challenging piece.

But I hope you turn out right, I'd love to try this out in 2017.

At the bottom of that page it says 2016 and right below it has a big pledge button. A little misleading if the plan isn't actually 2016.

Their top priority right now is SQ42 as it is an important part of SC's financial plan.

The MVP is something else.  But yea if they got a fully functional SQ42 then they aren't far from the MVP.  Minimum Viable Product.

And how do you, oh great source of SC's information filmoret...
...know what will be included on the MVP then? To be able to possibly estimate it?

Even DS would be jealous of your incredible ability to do this estimate.

I don't think anyone even knows what the MVP will be. Does anyone know exactly what features they are keeping and which ones they are cutting to get it released? The developers probably don't even know at this point.

I mention Squadron 42 because I do know it was supposed to release it's first chapter before anything else got released (fully). The months keep ticking and 2016 seems very unlikely at this point. But at what point in 2017 seems likely? Is 2018 now a possibility?

Someone should send them an email to change this by the way if they aren't releasing in 2016. It only feeds into conspiracy theories about them making false promises to strip customers of their money:

So it is IMPOSSIBLE to estimate it.

If it was detailed that, you will get A, B an C by MVP and then the rest later. We could SPECULATE in how much time will it take them do do that, and finalize a stable build of the game to call 1.0.

But no, in fact when they want to deliver "all the ships up the endeavor" by 1.0 that means 70 ships! Unless they get some magic beans i don't see that one alone being delivered anytime soon.

    Naught wrong with guesstimating.

I think they'll have a basic first pass of your standard features for space games, combat, mining, salvaging and missions. I don't think there will be many star systems initially and all this will be available sometime in 2019.

I don't think that the launch of SQ42 in any way indicates that the launch of the PU is imminent.

    There's a vast difference between a story-driven single-player space combat sim and a fully-fledged space-based virtual world MMO.

I may have the wrong idea, but my impression is that SQ42 is a modern "Wing Commander", not a modern "Freelancer". The PU seems to be the modern vision of "Freelancer"...

I think during 2017 the focus will be on this game features as cargo, mining, trading, etc.. as you mentioned, also implementing AI that has a major role on the PU and the global economy. Such features add the fundamental gameplay loop that will generate the economy that the pillar that drives the MMO. MVP or not, they need to be in by it.

When a company has missed every delivery date they have ever given, it is not called a conspiracy theory, it is called poor management.

So all the companies that faced delays on their games are mis-managed? Games like NMS are mis-managed because they failed to meet several release targets?
