If I was King I would make it illegal to 'remake' any game. this is a fad that needs to stop
If I was king I'd lock you in the tower until the game was remade. Then, if the game was horrible I would release you, give you lands and an army and have you smite the enemy devs who thought they could revive the game.
If the game was acceptable I would retire you to a farm so you could quietly live out your life in contemplation ...
nothing like instead of creating new ideas, just reshash the old ones for about a decade.
yeah we would be kingdoms at battle for sure
Well, apparently they've added aliens so there you go ...
oh holy blaz!
is that it for this decade?
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
There is nothing to say this game will be great but in a way this is a whole new game. They are not actually remaking Dnl but it seems people can't get there heads around that.
To be fair the confusion comes from using the same name when IMO they should of renamed it or at least went with what they first called the game.
Then why use the name?
If this is a different company and the game is different with different maps and different classes, why use the name of a game that failed to deliver and left a bad taste in the mouth of many gamers? It seems like a monumentally bad business decision.
It is like saying:
"Hey, lets make this harder on ourselves then it has to be, instead of starting at 0 with a new name, lets name our product after something that tanked badly and start at minus 10 so we can struggle right from the start!"
"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game." - SEANMCAD

because at the moment remakes/remasters is a mega trend.

I'm not sure why this is throwing people off. Just wait for the game to come out and judge it on what it is.
Because we remember how completely terrible DnL was the first time. It is like having a great idea for a kickstarter but then using Jason Appleton as your frontman.
I'm not saying anything bad about this company or product as like you said, I am waiting to see it but I do question their use of the name. You say name recognition but DnL had terrible memories for most gamers. That is like saying with a name like Dahmer, you have to run for major in Milwaukee!

Its like making a movie about a Western Story and calling it GhostBusters 2 isnt?...lol

I think that's sort of glass half empty thinking.
You are correct that if one were to think back to the original Dark and Light then one might have horrible images.
But different company with completely different tech who love the idea of Dark and Light and want to fulfill what it could be? Why not?
Masters of Orion III was horrible. Someone comes and decides to make another one, different company, and the game is good.

And even though I support them I can't for the life of me understand why they used the same name. They actually did change the name to Savage Horizon so why chnage it back.
Anyway the game is going on steam by the end of this month so we will all know the score within the next three weeks.
I do know they are busy ironing out all the features preparing for the steam early access pre order.

Perhaps because it's not the same game. They have taken things like the size of the world and the robust weather system that effects game play.
Hunger, cold and fatigue plus harsh weather will all effect your character. The classes and lore plus towns and cities have all been changed.
You are not playing a remake of the original game you will be playing a new game that keeps some of the concepts of the original.
Again I think we can agree the name has not done them any favours. Memories run deep in the mmo world and that's the problem.

Put it this way they will get one chance.
Agreed about the name. They should have just used the Savage Horizon name again like your user name is from (I assume. If not my apologies)
I think the game sounds like it could be great. We will all see sooner rather than later thankfully.
Lol, yes that's where I got my forum name from. When they showed the game at ChinaJoy 2011/12 it was still called Savage Horizon.
I think another thing that could decide is any cash shop situation. I don't know if there will be a cash shop but I don't think there will be.
Nearly every animal can be tamed to ride so that rules out mounts in the cash shop. I really don't think a mmo that is big on survival needs any form of cash shop.
How mang times do you need to be told that this is not the same dev team. At least do your homework before you spout your nonsence
Well look at the games that dev team has created. Are you a huge fan of Age of Wushu, Ministry of War, Heroes of Gaia, etc? Do you feel they represent high-quality MMORPGs?

Age Of Wulin is a very good mmo but the thing that let it down was what let's many mmo in the west and Asia... Cash shop.
The American version of Age Of Wulin was a mess especially when it came to translation. Fortunately I live in Europe where it was no near like the American version.
Age Of Wushu 2 which is also coming g out will be a big improvement because it will release world wide and isn't just another Asian port.
But why don't you answer my question like I have you. I am under no illusion that Dnl won't live to the hype but at least do your homework before spouting nonsense.
this would be fantastic if snail wasnt behind it .
Out of curiosity, is there any publisher aside from Blizzard (and hell, probably including Blizzard) that doesn't draw this exact same reaction?
NCSoft, Aeria, GPotato, Perfect World, Trion, Nexon, Snail Games, My.Com, and just about every other MMO publisher I can think of are all regarded the same way one might regard a 20-year-old beat-up truck... that just hit their dog. That isn't to say that this reputation hasn't been earned by all of them to one extent or another, but it begs the question - who is left.
any new info on this game, im really interested, but trying to avoid the hype train. I played DF from start to finish, and Shadowbane Im like the rare non griefer lover of PvP

Their "early access" is coming this fall and they have very little as far as game play to "hype" or excite people into trying this game.
They have either no idea how to market their product or they have much of a product. We'll see.
