Monster Hunter World News - Monster Hunter World just came out for PC yesterday and it's smashing records according to SteamCharts. The concurrent number of players is an amazing 240k, the highest in 2018 and the seventh highest of all time. Players have put in 3.6M hours too. Lastly, it will come as no surprise that MHW is Japan's biggest hit in the west, far eclipsing Dark Souls 3 that came in at about 130k concurrent users.

But for PC, it could be a lot better port. I like the game, but having to use systems clearly meant for controller on keyboard + mouse means it's only above average game, when it could be excellent.
Suppose something that affects everyone is the mouse control, with it emulating an analog stick and all. Just a shame a lot of people don't actually seem to see that as a problem, for whatever reason. Many complaints, yes, but compared to the playerbase, it's smaller than expected..
I've seen endless complaints about the UI and how systems work in the game for the PC launch, but I don't think people realize how bad these systems used to be in MH games. It's one of those "back in my day" things, but holy crap is the game so much easier to deal with than the series used to be.
Same thing also happened with Dark Souls PTDE, the mouse controls were terrible, but then, a mod appeared and it was awesome.

Is MHW as bad as that?

Why be stubborn and insist on using k&m even though you know it's crap?
The game is meant to be played with a controller, use a controller. You don't need to be afraid of the almighty controller.
I have a console, but don't play it because I dislike using a controller to play video games. I'd rather not see a trend of PC ports that require a controller to function intuitively.
I made some tweaks to the graphics to avoid the optimization/framerate issues (turned the fog off, lowered shadows, and am willing to turn off ambient occlusion). I am NOT trying to run it at 4k, no way. I'm in 1080 stretched to full screen.
The gameplay itself is awesome, there's a metric f#$% ton of cut screens in the beginning but once you're past the initial blast it starts to ease up. There's so much nuance and system to understand it will keep you interested if you aren't looking for microwaved content. The monster AI is just amazing.
Dauntless got its entire front teeth, top and bottom kicked out. There's no comparison. Its like NBA vs JV basketball

I've been playing this series since it first released in the US and always sucked at ranged weapons. I was looking forward to this being the Monster Hunter where I can finally just aim a bowgun with a mouse like it's an fps so I didn't have to be melee again. Based on what I've been reading I'm considering not buying it.
