WoW may be easy but gaining levels was alot of fun for me especially soloing anything with my Rogue.. I was coming from EQ2 where it would take 35 seconds for a group to kill a Bumblebee..How is that fun? I played EQ2 until level 30 before the grind was just to much to handle.. Not only that, I wanted PVP in eq2..So many times I'd be on the boards begging they implement Good vs Evil PVP like in DAOC's RvR..
With EQ2's new expansion they FINALLY plan on implementing this..But for me,I think its to late to come back to EQ2..I quit a year ago before playing and enjoying WoW for about 6 out of the 10 months I actively played..
If you are looking for a fun easy MMO to play,go for WoW..It will start to get boring when u are max level.Doing Strat,UBRS,Scholo,MC,BWL,etc get old very fast. The first few times is actualy fun, after that its just a waste of time trying to get that blue or epic to drop..
Personally right now I think DAOC is the best MMO on the market.. I just went out and bought the epic edition last night after not playing the game for 3 years.. 3 Years ago I was so addicted on EQ and since that game already had 3 years on a new DAOC,I eventually went back to EQ and never gave DAOC another look.. Since then the game has changed and been enhanced dramatically..The graphics system rivals EQ2,and is much beter than kiddy cartoony WoW.. Also there are player mounts,a housing system where u can build your own structure, cool looking epic armor/weapons,RvR combat, new races/classes etc..
Personally If you are stuck between trying WoW or EQ2 and both games still have u undecided,I recommend giving DAOC a try.. Personally its WoW and EQ2 in one but with enhanced unique features implemented as well..

And who is the fanboy, 5 million have tried it, not subscribed.
If you want my opinion, i didnt like WoW, it laked any depth to it. I couldnt stand the synthisizer music, graphics were terrible. I had the misfortune to meet a bunch of assholes. I found the WoW interface to be anoing because im used to being able to change it however i want and in wow you cant. The quests were to much go kill 10 this and ill give you 5 silver.
And in general it felt like more of a grind than EQ2, just my oppinion although seemless zoning was cool, but that really shouldnt bother you unless you have like a 16 bit processor because the zones are massive in themselves so zoning is a minor issue.
EQ2 really disappointed me; grated on me even though I tried several times to get into it. WOW doesn't completely deliver, but at the same time does not disappoint me.
Still waiting for a game that will be like pre-Luclin EQ. Not completely like it, but in general.
Originally posted by Billius8 EQ2 really disappointed me; grated on me even though I tried several times to get into it. WOW doesn't completely deliver, but at the same time does not disappoint me.
I'm pretty much the opposite to this. WoW I found really disappointing in that it's just shallow, and each time I go back to hang out with friends I just can't hang around more than a week or two before getting bored. I don't really know what exactly it is about WoW, but I find it just really lacks.. something... It's just too... hmmm... I dunno, plastic maybe. Generic?
And in the same consideration, EQ2 doesn't completely deliver at all. There are things about EQ2 which are labeled as being great (or better than WoW) like the crafting system, yet I'd probably put EQ2's crafting 'system' up there with one of the worst experiences in frustration and stupidity that I've ever had in an MMO. But, compared to WoW, at least it has one
My advice to anyone who is considering either WoW or EQ2; either get both and just make up your own frickin mind, or get one in the realisation that you're just playing it until something better gets released this year. Which it will. Because both these games fall well short of their potential imo.
"(The) Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude." - George W Bush. Oh. My. God.
I currently play wow & EvE & have just started playing EQ2 & (swg with my son ) he loves swg...have also played silkroad ,guild wars, lineage II .
all of these games have something good about them ..like the combat style & gpx of the asian games ,like the no loading in wow and like the game world in eq2 ..and eve just rocks mostly because of the player community.
The only reason I play wow now is because of my friends ( guild mates ) other wise I am totally bored with it.to many limations in game also..its just well boring
Quit lineage II because of all the botts farmers & pkers as well as having no crafting system (dwarf only) and the economies is whacked by Ebay gold......like the way you get to choose your skill point allocation it should be like that in all games.
play eve every night have 2 accounts and mine my azz off while skill training for my new heavy assault cruiser that I will build my self .Eve is a great game with tons to do and the best community around 900 players in noob chat is a riot and the age group is 20 + with a lot of brits & aussys playing.
I just started my swg & eq2 accounts cause of the good deal that station gives 4 mmo`s for 20 bucks isn't bad 13 yr old son loves anything Star Wars and he talked me into the swg free demo had a blast with him and will get the upgrade so we can continue to have fun.
Now EQ2 seems to have changed a ton from when I first bought it 6 mos or so ago and is a lot more fun to play..love the way the towns & cities look and the questing is more diversified that wow or L2 .think that this might be the game for me for now . seems to be very lightly populated though so I started new toons on permafrost server seems to be the heaviest populated of the servers .Hopefully I will meet new people and get Invited into a active guild with TS or ventrlo...
so until the next greatest mmo comes out think I will play my eve & eq2 for now oh and a bit of swg with my son
Well I was going to flam a bit about the improper use of the terms presented in this posting... However, I will just say, that bump mapping and texture mapping are not one and the same feature, they are not mutually exclusive...
As far as which is better? Pull up your pants!!!! Neither, its a matter of preference, more people subscribe to WoW, EQ2 has better graphics, sound or content, choose your reason... I think the best way to figure out which game is for you, well ASK someone what they like about the game they play... Ask a WoW dude what he likes... Ask a Q2 player what he likes.. think about what you want out of an RPG and then play the one that you like. they both contain features in common they are both very similar games, and after feb21 eq2 will be (downgraded in my opinion 8) to have PVP in it 8) (ok I am actually mixed on that) the point is.... Ask people what they enjoy, ask them what they dislike, and a you will get a CLEAR idea of which game is better for you in the long run..
Here are my opinions about EverQuest 2....
1. Love the quests and traditional Tolkein like environment. IE traditional fantasy classes and races with some exceptions (Like DND without some of what I would consider tediousness)
2. I like the more serious nature of the game, it "takes role playing seriously" in isn't AS playfull as some other games, but there are time when the devs do silly things like dress the cities up for the holidays, I consider it cheezy, but... its kept fairly low key in most cases...
3. Assassins, they rule, I have had a blast with mine... If you like soloing and killing stuff by sneaking up on it and beating it senseless...
4. The game has expanded to HUGE proportions, I am incredibly happy with all the content... Maybe not so much about paying for it 8) but, I have not seen everything in the game yet... I thought I had earlier....
5. Graphics, Second to none... Though personally I don't care for many of the models of armour, I do think its more realistic then EQ1 and 2... But the land and models of deer, and everything else... breathtaking.
6. Sound... Was awsome at first getting your quests in full sound and running through a city that seems alive with all the sounds near and far... of course after a year of on and off playing... Well.. the sound is mostly off now 8)... I would still have it on but I like to fight and that sound gets pretty repeatitive...
7. A little more difficult, I don't want everything handed to me on a silver platter I like tough.... Give me a feeling of accomplishment that I did something great..... Even if sometimes it was frustrating to get there...
EQ2 is a clear winner in every one of the things I mentioned, at least, for my criteria.........
What I dislike?
I. hate not playing the class I want to be right from the start, although that changing in the near future....
2. There are some bugs, and I think the graphics engine could use a little optimization, though its run for weeks on my system without crashing....
3. They add so much content I barley get a chance to SEE the new content b4 more new content comes out...
4. The quests still seem a bit long, or at least some require raids, and or cannot be broken up for the more casual player like myself... I wouldn't have a hard time spending 8 hours on a quest I just can't put all eight hours in at once.... (that a bit exagerated but the idea is there)
5. Monster Pathing could use a bit of help, pet pathing more... but its not horrible now...
6. I feel that some "Heroic, Epic" creatures are a bit powerfull and are not tuned to small non-elite groups/guilds...
Obviously since I am still playing EQ2 I find its advantages FAR outweight the negitives... but DON't base your purchase on my opinion alone PLEASE!!! I like it for my reasons...
Logged onto my server today... NEVER queued 8), maybe because there is no body on it... but STILL..... 8)
I would personaly play the Trial of the Island, It was enough to make my buy the game , WoW I think has a trial for Fileplanet users so thats good if you are one otherwise =S I think thats what it is, Worth giving it a shot if your not sure what to go to
(Wait just checked it out and its free you dont need to be a fileplanet subscriber to play the WoW trial so there)
Ok, I am tired of seeing, that.... People consider more realistic things that match the real world more.... so if you take out the fantasy and just have a human in full platemail standing in front of a castle.... Everquest would look more like what real knights in front of a castle..... Why?? because textures and models, and many other reasons...
I think you know what they mean by cartoony and frankly it is cartoony... Look at the color pallete, it is not the same as the color pallette of the real world is it?? Look at EQ2 and WoW and look at the color pallete you will likely find more colors are used in everquest but they are mostly shades of a color, where as WoW uses far less colors the colors they use are more vibrant and the shades are prolly closer tone....
In otherwords, this is not a matter of perspective or opinion, this is a matter of pallette... and only if you have extreme colorblindness could you even pretend that the color pallette in EQ2 is the same as WoW... Thats not to say WoW has BAD graphics.... the graphics are great..... they are just not realistic....
Having said that, I completely agree, I have never seen an orc before, well outside of lord of the rings movies, where I saw elves, dwarves, dragon like creatiures, a balrog, goblins, oroki, treants, trolls, spiders (which looked like a larger version of a spider so I think it was pretty realistic) and various other creatures.... But other then that, I have never seen one... Oh except in those rather cheezy movies about DND, oh and that made for TV special, and there was Willow... Haven't seen real ones?? no your right... they are after all FANTASY... Though alot of the creatures from our past that we consider fantasy are based on creatures we have actually seen hence how we describe them...
Watch all those movies and I am certain you will know what people mean when they say "realistic"
Personally, I am a lazy imaginator 8) Just make it look like everyone of the great artists rendition of a dragon... and welll..... I will love it 8)
