I am a vet gamer EQ beta 2 on 37 year old single mom with 3 sons. I have played EQ EQ2 SWG AO DAoC SIMS <yuck> WoW..... ran guilds in most started them and staffed them from social to end game. I would say I am hard core 10ish hours a day 5+ days a week I game with my 3 sons all together in our war room. How I got to be a gamer was looking up a dice roller for D&D table game on my PC with my sister and finding a beta app for EQ. We both game My sons girl friends game and my Mother 57 years old games. I get alot of "So are you a real girl?" Umm yeah are you a real boy?
I don't cyber and Ignore is my friend. To you other girl gamers ever notice as I have the pervs that just don't get you are not looking for love on line or sex for that matter are Rangers?
Maybe it's just me or maybe Cyber stalker prefer toons with /track?
Anyway I don't game with just girls nor would I care to I latch on to mature gamers who don't drop the F-bomb or talk about sex every 5 mins. I read that average MMORPG gamer age is 30+ (note pre-WoW survey) I have made friends 12 to 74 in games from 10-12 diffrent countrys and that is what keeps me gaming decent folks looking for some fun where the world comes to play. How cool is that ?Why would anyone think girls would not want to be a part of this world wide playground and contribute?

Well, ive been lurking about the forums for about.. uhm say last few months. and not only these.. Well, im a guy, yes i play games. And to a point i understand all ways at look at this, however there is a few things id like to add.(Dont shoot me if i piss you off, i generaly have that power on peapole, so sue me ) 1. Girls, when going into a game they usualy stick with it. Therefore they tend to kick my ass, HELL i dont care if i get beaten by a girl. If theyr better than me, and i know that theyr using some kind of thing that i dont know, i ask em. I DONT GO ABOUT WHINING CHEAT!! (look at me now, reliving a bf2 moment:/ got killed by maybe somone here in this forums, some names spark a thought in me brain.. Anyways get back on track shall we?) So therefore i dont realy give a shite, but if somone remakrs me if i kill em, and use theyr sex as a way to tell why they lost, i go nearly NUTS!!!!... There aint a rule about nothing in gaming, and i love playing with female commanders, becuse they generaly are better in tacs that most guys are.! AWE IT !! 2. But evrything got a backside, and i dont realy se any difference in the learning curves of either sex, ive got a good mate that got kids now, and belive it or not his 8year daughter beats the shite out of his 10year son. I would like to say that not all guys think that because your a real girl ^^ behind the digital world that we all play in, that you are ugly, a liar, lack social abilities or have a boyish way about you. The truth of the matter is I have met a number of female players within WoW that truly rock at the game ,,/ O_o ,,/
There are more female players now that ever, and they are more and more appearing online everyday. Well getting to my point...I came out of a long (12 year) relationship with a total non-gamer girl last year. lol she REALLY hates computers, gaming, technology etc. She even beat up a Sky Digital Box once because she couldn't change channels ^^. Ok this does sound funny and yes, I'm smiling right now BUT...back then, it was hell! Well I had to start all over again and rebuild my life after she left me...damn, wtf? I gave up nearly all of my hobbies and interests over the 12 years just to make her happy omgffs ^^
Ok, without going in major depressive detail. I went from a very creative, musical, funny guy who really liked to go forward in life and enjoy the bright future I was creating; to a guy who felt trampled on, mentally abused by guilt trip propaganda from my loving x-girlfriend. I like gaming like I like walking, and going to the cinema so wtf? Why not? It's not like I don't have a job and sit on my ass all day ^^ (I wish) anyway I know you are all think wtf is this guy on? I finally get to my point...I think girl gamers are cool and you all should carry on playing, don't care about anything negitive that people say. Shit if my x-girlfriend had been a little bit of a player (WoW would have been nice ) I think she would have understood that it's actually fun and a way of escaping the 'real world' for a bit. Escapism is very healthy otherwise you will turn into a total moaner The thought of having a girlfriend that would come round with a few drinks, we go get a pizza and then play some hardcore WoW

Whether or not the person behind the character is a man or a woman shouldn't matter unless you're looking for "something else". Why you think it's creepy for a guy to arr pee a woman or visa versa is beyond me. When someone seriously flirts with me in a game, I tell them to bugger off... that's not what I'm playing for. I'm always happy to meet men, women, kids, aliens, whatever in a game if they're good people. I've made plenty of friends for life of all ages, races, genders, gay and straight. I have quite a few married friends, like myself, who I play games with these days and it's great. It's wonderful to see more women and couples playing and I don't give a toss what gender they decide to play... none of my business.

I enjoy flirting, and I enjoy the company of girls who flirt back. In regular social interaction there are boundaries that are easy to spot. When I am talking to a 12 year old school girl, it is quite obvious by looking at her and flirty conversations do not occour. (Honest). Similarly when talking to a 14 stone Rugby player the same. (Not even in the bath after the game). These are normal social interactions in normal social enviroments. An online game does not obviously allow for the intuative social decisions that people make in face to face or even audio/video conversation automatically.
So if a transvestite chappy starts making sexual innuendo with me in a bar, I am likely to be uncomfortable with this train of conversation. (No. Really). However if a girl does the same, (Unlikely I know), I am likely to enjoy it and buy her drinks so that she doesn't stop. This is regular and normal social interaction commonly enjoyed buy millions of people worldwide. We all know the ground rules and can have fun with it under normal social restraint.
Once on the internet however, inside a game, we are flying blind. The possibilites to enjoy these typical kinds of social interaction are fraught with hidden dangers. Blokes dress as women and lead you on for the "gifts". This is creepy. 14 year old girls want to discuss sex and run away from home. This is illegal.
There are social boundaries. They exist. Just because a person is no longer standing close to you, does not mean you should behave without acceptable restraint.
Online games, "arr pee" or otherwise, still involve personal interaction. Normal social rules still apply. In an MMORPG many normal boundaries are not obvious to spot. But they still apply. The sooner you can clear up any ambiguities the sooner you can get on and enjoy peoples company in an even balanced and regular manner, appreciating them with honesty for who and what they are, rather than what you might like them to be.
"Roleplay" is not a carte blanche for dishonesty. If it's not between mutually consenting people it's just creepy and fraudulent. If a person asks me to roleplay* with them, and we both agree to it. All is well. If a person assumes a role by obsfucation or deceit it is an abusive relationship. Openness leads to trust and thats a good basis for friendship.
(*)Good roleplayers often speak (or type) in an obviously themed mannered. The request to roleplay is implicit in their diction.
Sexual roles in particular are well known to cause unease, confusion and discomfort. If you don't have the decency to come clean and clear up any ambiguities with me as early as possible....... you are a creep. Creepy. Someone to avoid. Not just in the game, but in life.
Example I am introduced to a new friend on Saturday night while out on the town. Within the first 5 sentences he declares himself to be gay. I declare myself not to be, and there are no further ambiguities between us for the rest of our lives. We become friends. Our friendship is based on an openess and understanding. We have confidence in eachother and may even flirt. A different friend is introduced to me, and although gay he is not open about it. At a sneaky moment in the gents toilets he makes a pass at me, and I puke. We do not become friends. I feel violent towards him for the rest of my life.
Similarly if you were to play the role of a single girl looking to meet up with men, when in fact you are happily married, and lead people on in the name of "roleplay", you would also be creepy.
Im not a girl gamer, but I would like to vent some frustration, and it's not towards you guys.
It pisses me off when people say, stuff like, "I bet you have no friends" and "Youre probably ugly" and other stuff of the sort, just becasue you tell someone youre a girl. I see it all the time in MMORPG's. Whenever I tell people this they say something along the lines of, "Well guys don't play with dolls, so girls shouldn't play video games" Lots of girls wear guy-style clothing, so why can't they play guy-like stuff? I don't get why people hate girl gamers so much.

In my bajillion years playing online games, I haven't noticed guys "hating" girl gamers. Quite the opposite, actually. In fact, sometimes they give a wee bit more love than I'm comfortable with.
I think alot of what i might have said has been said already...women are all equals..some guys are immature....grow thicker skin...ignore them..blah..blah..blah..etc..etc
The only thing i would stress to some people is the female gamers aren't rare anymore, a large if not equal portion of gamers are female. So guys shouldn't be shocked and some women shouldn't think they are special.
...and from what i've seem most female and male gamers know this already, its really no big deal.

wow lol I am a female mmo player altho many many many times when they find out I am female they are shocked! Finding out either by a straight out question ingame or finding out when they hear me on voice chat LOL
Funny thing is, they never thot I could have been a female. Most handle it just fine but some of the male gamers are the ones to do a sudden change in attitude and treatment of me. That makes me smile. If they had never heard me speak nor asked my r/l gender things would have gone on the same fun way. Funny how that works.

Sexual roles in particular are well known to cause unease, confusion and discomfort. If you don't have the decency to come clean and clear up any ambiguities with me as early as possible....... you are a creep. Creepy. Someone to avoid.

Example
I am introduced to a new friend on Saturday night while out on the town. Within the first 5 sentences he declares himself to be gay. I declare myself not to be, and there are no further ambiguities between us for the rest of our lives. We become friends. Our friendship is based on an openess and understanding. We have confidence in eachother and may even flirt.
A different friend is introduced to me, and although gay he is not open about it. At a sneaky moment in the gents toilets he makes a pass at me, and I puke. We do not become friends. I feel violent towards him for the rest of my life.
Similarly if you were to play the role of a single girl looking to meet up with men, when in fact you are happily married, and lead people on in the name of "roleplay", you would also be creepy.
Im not a girl gamer, but I would like to vent some frustration, and it's not towards you guys.
It pisses me off when people say, stuff like, "I bet you have no friends" and "Youre probably ugly" and other stuff of the sort, just becasue you tell someone youre a girl. I see it all the time in MMORPG's. Whenever I tell people this they say something along the lines of, "Well guys don't play with dolls, so girls shouldn't play video games" Lots of girls wear guy-style clothing, so why can't they play guy-like stuff? I don't get why people hate girl gamers so much.

In my bajillion years playing online games, I haven't noticed guys "hating" girl gamers. Quite the opposite, actually. In fact, sometimes they give a wee bit more love than I'm comfortable with.
I think alot of what i might have said has been said already...women are all equals..some guys are immature....grow thicker skin...ignore them..blah..blah..blah..etc..etc
The only thing i would stress to some people is the female gamers aren't rare anymore, a large if not equal portion of gamers are female. So guys shouldn't be shocked and some women shouldn't think they are special.
...and from what i've seem most female and male gamers know this already, its really no big deal.
Baff i found your post quite interesting to read, i don't agree with it because i stand firmly on the position that not only is all personal info concerning the other player none of my business but that i couldn't care less.
Lastly, I have to agree with some posters that some of the post are just posted for attention whoring..from the trolls with obviously no other purpose but to insult others, to the guys about to castrate themselves in protest to the treatment of women by immature people in mmos and then we have people posting their pics to prove us that they are indeed good looking...yeeaah....some people of BOTH genders need to grow up a bit.

equal is even more absurd
polar opposites/very different is more like it
let's just leave it at that
and for those who think oh i hate gurls its not tru
and i know some gurls are good at games etc
and i repect them for that
i dont however need
1)the drama/nonsense females bring into my guilds
2)the extra attention they aquire (through no fault of their own)
it's just a distraction id rather not have when im player a computer game
3)the we are equal and dammit u respect us attitude they parade around with
4)the fact they think all guys have probs with them when really guys are just horny
and females cant seem to understand that (people are still humans behind the keyboard)
when the majority of the players are guys and what do guys like to think talk about

I agree that your father gave you good advice. You are not equipped to argue this sort of thing. I suggest you look up the word equality as it pertains to this type of debate, if you're interested. Don't hide behind pedantism or a literal meaning... everyone knows what equality means... especially if you're a minority and have had to fight for that equality. When you're a bit older and have had some life experience, maybe you'll understand it. I AM a woman and I'm nothing like what you seem to think women are and I know very few women who fit your strange description. Please don't take offense, Supernerd, I mean you no insult. wow lol I am a female mmo player altho many many many times when they find out I am female they are shocked! Finding out either by a straight out question ingame or finding out when they hear me on voice chat LOL
Funny thing is, they never thot I could have been a female. Most handle it just fine but some of the male gamers are the ones to do a sudden change in attitude and treatment of me. That makes me smile. If they had never heard me speak nor asked my r/l gender things would have gone on the same fun way. Funny how that works.
