Even though your computer might crash too now and then zeedaam, it surely is less detrimental to your health than doing the same with your new shiny automobile hotrod. :)

Yea anyone who doesn’t know anything about games would be amazed by about anything. Look at deviant art, a bunch of kids that know little to nothing about art, and they all think that the other stuff that people post on that site is amazing.

My point? The only peoples who's opinions matter in terms of graphics, are the people that actually know what they are talking about.

EQ2 is horrible because its so damn inefficient. Just about any current PC MMO game looks better, and doesn’t even have as steep requirements. The game COULD have looked good, but the designers decided to just toss in all these effects they could, with out caring about making them work together properly.

I'd like to know why people even bother trying to convince people that something looks good or looks bad. WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN PREFERENCE! Some think EQ2 is crap on gameplay and graphics. Some think the same on WoW or any other game out there. If you don't like something, you don't like it, no need to try to tell someone who DOES like it that they're wrong. C'mon people, you guys have got to be smarter than some of the crap you're posting...

Oooh you can impress people who know little or nothing about video games. Congrats.

What did you play before EQ2? If you came from games like UO, or DAoC, then yes EQ2 owns. I played AC2, SoR, GW and WoW before I played the EQ2 trial. I will take the graphics from any of those games over EQ2. They aren't as technically advanced but they sure look and feel a lot nicer.

im a 3D artist and let me just say this one thing(whether anyone listens well thats another thing.)

to all those saying the models and artwork suck in eq2 let me tell ya that i could easily create a model with skins of WOW quality 10 times easier than i could a model and skin of eq2 quality.

Time spent doesn't always equate to quality.

You got a homepage pickleballs? I always enjoy looking at good 3d work of fellow artists.

What I would also like to know is, if the models would be of equal technological requirements(polycounts, texture size, texture amount, ...), would you still be able to do the one with the detailed hand painted texture faster and how so?

Some movies people will like, and some movies people will not like. Yet there is a reason for the most popular movies, or the most popular books, or the most popular artists. For example, if we took a picture by Van Goph, it could be discussed whether it was good or bad, people would express whether they disliked or liked it. This is the basic level. But there must be a more advanced level as to which people can recognize this as a masterpiece different from something some random painter has painted. By the argument, there is only like/dislike we miss out this more advanced argument and appreciation. So its not as simple as all that but yeah some of the arguments are debating opinion with no substance.

The reason I say this is because if a lot of people think the graphics just aren't very good(for the mmorpg genre) and a minority do. Then it could mean the graphics are not very good. Even if some people liked it. Some people may like the random painters paintings, but it would not hold anything against the painting of well known artists. Ie if a lot of people said spice girls: the movie was rubbish it would universally hold true for a lot of people, even though there will be people that liked it. The way, subjective opinions are usually dealt with is by specialists. For example, a film review who reviews a lot of films will give ratings to films in the local tv paper. Of course, not everyone will agree with him, but he wil generally have a good idea whether a film is good or not.

So subjective is not always totally subjective.

You people don’t seem to understand how games work.

It doesn’t matter about how much you can max out model detail, bump mapping, and textures.

It does matter that you get the game as a whole look good and match everything else.

the EQ2 team basically went "OMG LOLZ, LOOK AT TEH SPECIAL E-FECTS WE CAN ADD. LETS PUT THEM ALL ON AT 0NCE"

look at any other MMO, the models may not be as high poly, the textures may be of lesser quality, and they may not use bump mapping. But they look good. Not something I can say about EQ2.

FFXI. WoW, GW. Those games are pleasing to the eye, those games are made by companies that know how to make games

Funny how this game has steeper requirements then graphically superior games, That’s called bad design right there. If they had any idea what they were doing, they would have more cpu resources, and would have been able to make the game look good.

Daoc has pretty nice graphics, though dated by now (1600x900 widescreen 1.4 meg pix) SS:

The daoc engine is nowhere near as technically polished as the one used in EQ2, the environment aren't as rich either, it's very photo realistic however, the overall tone is more gothic and darker, which occasionally makes the game appear depressing (it's realistic I guess)

Still, I prefer the daoc look of over the one offered by EQ2. I find EQ2 too tacky and flashly, they went overboard with the color palette (it's a fantasy world but take a look at D&D or other PNP fantasy drawings, their color tones "sync up" nicely, they make sense aesthetically)

EQ2 art is somewhat cheap, EQ was the same.. you never mix purple with bright orange for example, that's just plain fugly.. not all it's art is bad, several pieces of armors are pretty impressive I admit.. it doesn't feel very cohesive altogether.. imo anyways
