I am looking through ratings in games and all I see is "WoW is a waste of money","WoW is the most stupid game I have ever sen!", "This game will definately blow WoW out of the water"... and so on.
I play WoW, and I think it is really good. Graphics are corny, but easy to play with. Community is good from what I have seen. Grinding is fun! (Yes, it is.)
I just want to know.. what is it with people against WoW these days?
Comments
Like millions of other players around the world, I like WoW.
In the majority of cases, the previous reply is correct. It's cool to buck the trend, to declare a hatred for something mainstream.
The simple fact is the majority of Gamers like WoW. It wouldnt be the most popular MMO ever (ever likely to be?) if they didn't.
My one gripe would be the lack of high end content for casual playters in PvE.
I don't hate WoW, I just prefer a more challenging, in-depth experience.
In WoW, it seems like everything is quests or busy-work, and you are guided everywhere. I like to have the freedom to decide what I want to do within the world (aka sandbox).
EDIT: Also, I'm not really into the fantasy thing. I'm sick to death of Trolls, Warriors, and Elves.
6.5 million palyers....1% of that is 65000.So if only one percent dose not like the game and say 25% of them are vocal enough to bitch on sights like this one to make them feel better then it seems like alot. The truth is millions of people are to buesy playing wow to ever say how good it is VS its shortcomings.Personally i burned out in the start and cant go back but that dosent mean its a bad game.
Even thow warhammer looks great im swearing of any game that that has a elf or dworf in it.
"There's no star system Slave I can't reach, and there's no planet I can't find. There's nowhere in the Galaxy for you to run. Might as well give up now."

I agree with Spathotan.
And I dont hate WoW, I just want MMO's which need skills and you can choose your own path. It's good thing WoW exists because MMO's get much more players. WoW combines most of the good things in MMO's and lot of new players get interessed in MMO's.
How many threads like this is here?
And if you are looking at my xfire profile, yes I have played WoW the most (it's really addictive if you start playing it, best to stop in time). Right now I'm playing Maple Story because I have played almost everything else. I want to try every kind of MMO's. Right now I actually play Oblivion the most and have played couple months but I shut down xfire when I play it because xfire makes some crashes for Oblivion.
I think the real issue isn't that many people hate WOW, but that many people who aren't really gamers love it.
"Gamer" is a term applied to every half-a** who can work a keyboard and mouse (or console controller, depending on the game).
Whatever. I could pick up a gun and fire off a few rounds at the range, but that doesn't make me a marksman. I could nuke a can of beef ravioli, but that doesn't make me a cook. I may look up law or medicine knowledge on the internet, but you can bet your sweet anus I'm not about to call myself the equal of a lawyer or doctor.
And just the same, the 6 million who play WOW are not all, or even mostly, gamers. Most are folks who are doing what everyone else is doing. Not true? Where did all those players from other games (EQ, UO, AC, etc.) go to?
No, the problem isn't that WOW is popular. It has it's good points, and it's bad points.
The problem is that those who hate it can't seem to acknowledge that it has a lot of good ideas... and that those who love it refuse to acknowledge that it has some real problems in it.
Don't base any decision on a game, negative or positive, on popularity. I didn't quit WOW because of one stupid thing; I quit for a variety of reasons. I would try to explain these detailed reasons, but truthfully, the average gamer in various message boards (WOW's forums included, heavily so) simply don't give a rat's turd what I think if I don't like something.
So don't stir up the pot. If you love WOW, whatever. That's your opinion. But don't ask us to give our reasons for not liking it, only so you can just disregard it with a wave of your hand as saying that we're flawed in some manner for not liking a game for some reason.
Either accept that WOW isn't for everyone like people seem to like to claim it is, or just leave the issue alone. I don't make topics "This Is Why WOW Sucks Donkey Testes", so I don't want it's opposite, "Why WOW Is Better Than Sex".
"Why do so many hate WOW?"
Why ask a question you don't really want the answer to?
It's got all the great original concepts that don't stray far from the formula, yet the disgusting aftertaste is overwhelming.
I dont hate WoW, i played it for approx a year and am still subscribed.
I found other games to play is all really.
*engraves it into stone*
...and on the seventh day of the sixth mounth of the two thousand and sixth year the MMO Forum Commandment was born.
I must say, I really liked that post.

I'm just impressed some folks online even read anything that's not a one-sentence catch-phrase anymore.
You know what the MMO community's problem is? Too many punks and morons, not enough old-school figure-it-out-yourself initiative. Half the "gamers" these days, if they didn't have a strat guide (online or elsewhere), they couldn't organize a raid on their own kitchen during a sleepover.
Just a pre-warning: I AM NOT FLAMING ALL WOW PLAYERS.
That reminds me of my new biggest fear when it comes to MMOs. At some point in history, many MANY more of the non-old-schooler (i.e. the younger people that started with WoW) will start filtering out and into new games. Once many more of them start looking for a new game the MMO community is going to hurt.
I don't know if its just me but the other day I took a bath in child-repellent and wanded into the WoW Forums... I not going to speak of the things I viewed but I honestly couldn't believe some of the crap I was reading. I can't imagine whats going to happen when all those players start filtering into things like Beta, since you know damn well it will be only to play and make it more WoW-ish. I seriously don't know what it is with those players.
Now I just ranted on about because I felt it goes hand-in-hand with your said "punks and morons" but shit... these people are going to start looking for new games... this sucks. lol!
So once again, this was not geared at all WoW players. Just certain ones.
Edit: btw, those players are why I don't play WoW. I don't hate WoW, I hate some of its community.
LOL funny.
Well a few of the posters here have got a real weird sense of reality.
For example the guy who compared "gamers" versus gamers, with the analogy of being able to nuke ravioli versus a cordon bleu chef.
These are just video games. Pixels on a computer screen that amuse us. I realise that we are all fans, but lets not go overboard here.
In any case, I'm tired of these threads too.
But here I am bumping it?
Damn
i like the WoW games for pc and the consoles, personally i thought WoW as a mmo was just wrong but i think i'm in the minority out the roughly 6 million accounts that are playing it lol. i tried a free 7 day trial and i came to the conclusion it wasnt for me. I had no idea how anything worked, trying to get help from the people on the server i was on was a waste of my time. being challenged to a duel 20 secs after getting into the game thats they way to make a newbie feel oh so welcome . i lasted the whole 7 days but i felt i was walking in circles and i was and i felt like i was in an tv cartoon to and i accomplished zip even though i made it level 8.
Why do so many people hate WoW? To quote a line from The Church's Maybe These Boys
You can't stand success, or the place where it's been
like someone said above, WoW is the McDonalds of MMO, or The Da Vinci Code.
There are many not so popular but much much better restaurants out there than McDonalds, and many books much much better (in fact i dont even think it is a good book) than The Da Vinci Code, but they are not so popular.
same is with WoW. it is by far not the best MMO, but it is the most popular and the most profitable.
when somebody that hasnt read a book ever, first reads the Da Vinci Code, it is the best book ever. when they read more, they see that is just a standard quality book.
People are just starting to look for newer experiences and game types. Also, alot of people hate how many websites are so hardcore for WoW, anything else is dismissed or ignored.
The game started out as a great, fun, casual MMO. One designed to allow players to log in during their lunch hour and pick up a quest and get it done. As a simple, casual MMO, WoW was great at first. Then Blizzard started listening to too many people and decided to be a "real" MMO. The problem with adding dungeons that take hours and hours to raid in WoW, is that WoW's simple game mechanics, designed for casual players, are painfully boring when a play session stretches out over hours and hours.
Every game has people who like t and who don't.
WoW has millions of subs so it must be doing something right.
I am an ex-WoW and in all honesty its a good game and most importantly of all its the best starter mmorpg in the market currently.Considering most of its clients are newcomers to mmorpg then you can easily see the appeal.
But for those of us who have played other mmorpg we tend to find the content post 60 extremely bland and empty.
And i think thats where you see the complaints from.Because we have experienced better pvp and better end game content once we hit 60 we tend to find it very boring. For someone who never played a mmorpg before its easy to think this is how end game content should be and accept it as such.
Bottom line its a good mmorpg,an excellent starter mmorpg but its down side is poor end game content and poorly implemented pvp.
As I said, I don't hate WoW and I did get some enjoyment from the game, after all I played for a year and through beta, but for me personally it was just too repetitive with a lack of any real challenge, levelling was kind of fun the first few times but far too easy and endgame was boring as hell. I only lasted as long as I did because all my friends were playing it and I had played the death out of most the other games on the market.
Sometimes the simple answers are the best. Usually not, but in this case I guess so too. It is played by so many, and a lot of younger people still have great desire to be regarded as elite, and the only thing they can think to appear elitarian is by showing hate towards what is loved by many.
Many just do not know the difference between difficult and simply dull. A endless grindfest, like RF Online is, or hours of walking a world to reach the quest, without automap, channels or helpers, is simply dull and boring, and not difficult at all. A five year old child can do it. Or they don't see the difference between difficult and unrewarding. PKing a la Ultima Online wasn't cool, exciting or difficult, it was just stupid and boring, to be killed over and over again. They are uneducated kids, whose only credit I can think of is, that they really do not know any better.
The Alterac Battle is not easy at all. But it is regulated and fair PVP. Two equal groups in a strategic terrain, and like all sports (Football, Soccer, whatever), then competition is really interesting.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert

There is absolutely NOTHING difficult about WoW, if you find it difficult I'm sorry for you.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
