Hehe. We should have a 'What is this character thinking' contest with that image. Thats about the best I can think of getting out of RV art.
KFR has asked him twice now to stop. Self destructive behavior has outed him amongst his own.
The other RV supporters seem to have no problem admitting the game is far from complete.

Hello, I'm a fairly new player of Roma Victor. The man with the glued photographic face must be an old one, my toon look nothing like that. The toons has pretty good faces actually.
I appreciate Redbedlam's ambition, if the game is finished it will be highly detailed. Hehe I think that you will need to get a haircut once in a while to keep your reputation in town.
The gameworld currently look, like many says, dark, dull and lifeless and need some mayor work. Grass, animals, better colors (please Redbedlam, check the gamma/color settings of your screens). And when you add animals - give them good AI - too many other MMOs have these mobs that just stand and wait for the heroes to begin slaughter them. I want the deers to run off when a human approaches and the wolves to attack in packs.
Crafting is a timesink, it's not very rewarding. However, it does make a sword valuable which must be the point of the system.
I personally like the game much more than EQ2, than SWG, than WoW. It reminds me most of all about EVE; the PVP focus and being very very niche (some people thinks playing with model railroad is the zen of fun, some want to simulate a super-capitalistic space opera, some want to recreate the Roman empire). If you are not fascinated with it, you'll never "get" it (and I would be bored stiff playing with M

You write, "with these kind of graphics," it's impossible to make players feel they are really there. That is subjective. I find the graphics to be photo realistic - look at the face and some of the armor of the guard in the review above. Can you show me something more realistic? I suspect that many players have heard, "the graphics suck" and have blindly began to believe it, sight unseen.
If you want realistic looking graphics in a non fantasy setting I suggest you take a look at Pirates of the Buring Sea. Also made by a first time small developer.
Ok, Mcgreag, I have reviewed the graphics of Pirates of the Burning Sea as you suggested. I was looking forward to some highly realistic looking graphics, given how harshly you and others attack Roma Victor's graphics.
Well its clear that you are completely exaggerating Mcgreag, shame on you! Even if you do personally feel that the cartoonish graphics of Pirates of the Burning Sea are more realistic looking, here is a side by side comparison for everyone to see - if anything the Roma Victor graphics are much more realistic and believeable. For those of you that are interested in Roma Victor this is a good example of how kids here at mmorpg.com have been conditioned to prefer brightly colored cartoonish-like graphics in video games to such a degree that they actually consider these type of graphics more realistic than graphics rendered from actual images.

Well pirates is in beta so this might be actually how it looks on release or worse or better.
As for the RV screenshot this is NOT how it looks ingame. The colours are never so good. Its very dull colours. The character details are worse. This must be a screenshot from the exhibition section which are normally touched up a bit.I know other companies are also guilty of this practise .Its common.
But the RV screenshot is no way a proper representation of the ingame looks. You can praise RV on other points but this screenshot is far better then the real game looks.
All the RV images in this thread, except for the cucifixion image are from actual screenshots that I took myself as a player within the past few weeks. None of the them have been "touched up." The above image is part of a screenshot that I uploaded on 8/31/2006 here:
Currently selectable skin-tones are being implemented, which has resulted in characters having a default pale complexion at the moment, but once the addition is fully implemented I doubt many will maintain the albino look.
I would have to say that while the Pirates of the Burning Sea Graphics do look better the two are uncompariable. Pirates of the Burning Sea, IMO, has more of a cartoon look to it with bright colors but looks like it is lacking the shading deatail that RV has. RV currently lacks the shadow effect that Pirates has.
I had a further look and Pirates of the Burning Sea screenshots and I will admit they are damn good but they have a cartoony feel to them, except for some of the water images, I feel that the brights are too bright.
That is why I like the current RV graphics, the colors aren't extreme and deatail is good on PCs/NPCs. Some of the back drops on PotBS were just like RVs in the way that they are there but they don't look right, kinda jump off the screen.

Well personaly I think both characters look cartoonish, I don't see how you can call the RV character realistic. What is so realistic about it? The the ductaped on face photo? The low polygon and texture resolution armor? The hands made up of blocks for fingers? The fact that from every screen I have seen every character has the same pose? What is it that's so realistic with this?
When suggesting PotBS I was thinking of the enviorment, the towns the ships etc. Every developer focus their effort on something, for PotBS the focus are on the boats as ship to ship combat is what the game is about, roma victor on the other hand doesn't focus on anything, everything I've seen so far looks equaly ugly.
As for it being the devs job to make a vid, well dev made vids seldomly show the game as how it really look. Player made ones do. Making a vid is not hard, just get Fraps and start capturing videos. Show us how good and realistic the combat really is.

please,like anyone takes you seriously.
You were caught posting some 2 year old preview and cutting out the part you wanted and relabelled it a review to make it look new.
You have been begged by the RV community and by the lead developer himself to stop your action on this board.
Do you really honestly think anyone with half a brain takes you serious.

You mean seriously? No. Half-brains do not take anything seriously. But that's ok, it's not the half-brains I am interested in. It takes a full brain to play Roma Victor well.
As far as the review, I quoted a preview that I felt described Roma Victor well. I did not add anything to it and I never claimed it was new. There's nothing wrong with that, I can quote whatever I like and if I want to call the quote a short review of Roma Victor, I can do that too. The slander and assumptions were all posted by hercules - you believed that, so there's further evidence you might be a half-brain.

I just wanted to quote your worthless trash of a post so I could reference it later if needed. Your own post defeats you.
Sempiternal - Joel v2.0 anyone? Actually even Joel doesn't get anywhere near as orgiastic about There as this individual does about his particular thrill.
By posting a "review" like you've done, you've basically indicated to 90% of the reading public here that there are major issues with RV and the consensus is that it's bollocks. I'll argue that you've done more harm than good pontificating about RV.
Instead of promoting what could well could be a killer product, you've come across as a spin doctor promoting a pile of shit. Where's the free steak knives?
Bad advertising - RV doesn't need enemies when it has friends like you, Sempiternal.
The very same reasons you did. Even though you will not answer honestly because that would be an admission, stop and think about it, why exactly did you post?
Yeah I take everything semp says with little belief. He is determined to paint this picture of RV as something that it isn't. He attacks those that disagree with him(and has done this to myself on more than one occasion), he did in fact cut and paste a 2 year old preview as a review. This isn't a review as much as a ad for the game. I played for a few weeks felt like I was in a alpha and finally got a refund. Buyer beware, I don't see the realism, set aside the actual look of the graphics and take a look at the very limited and jerky animation or the lack of customization, or the lack of anything on the barren landscape and you can pretty much say goodbye to the realism within this game.
Look at this screenshot of Rome: Total War I actually find these models that are 'designed' to render over a thousand of them in-game, more appealing than that chunky roma victor crap.

Yeah I'll stick to Rome :Total War with a good mod for my Roman fix thanks.

Sorry, did not even wanna post on this game again but we spent weeks teaching him the diffference and he can't seems to get it!
