Do you see anyone else in here flogging "their" game like it's God's gift to shit? Apart from Joel and his There of course? No...most of us are bright enough to allow a game to either stand or go ass-up on its own merits. It doesn't need to be shilled in the Pub, now does it? Not even the Horizons fanbois, and they're more rabid than Sempiternal, have come to the pub to shill.
Sempiternal, like most trolls, responds to justified criticism with stock answers like "Your post is not worth responding to" or "I don't understand your comments" or the like.

This is a sure sign that the game is nowhere near as good as the fans say; when people defend the game by blaming players for being lazy and uncreative, they may as well just say 'the game is worthless, and I'm going to blame the worthlessness on players and potential players.

I. You are saying Sempiternal thrives on attention. We know that by now.
2. Nobody responds to you how you'd like because yo uaren't as amusing as Sempiternal is. You're only a moderately tenacious fanboi.
3. So RV couldn't afford to license an engine. No shame in that.

They are only here to bash it, not discuss it. Bash it if they have never played it, bash it if virtual worlds are not their type of thing, bash it if they are busy playing other games, even bash it if they know nothing about it. Most of what they post is total rubbish - even when presented with facts. Several are here just to fight with me in the forums; they could care less about honestly discussing the game.
The haters complained about the graphics, so I posted screenshots and asked for any that were better. A couple were posted and after comparing them side by side, it was clear that Roma Victor's graphics are actually superior and more realistic looking. Actually superior and more realistic looking! So what do they do? Return to merely posting opinions and flames - the only way they can lazily continue to attack the game.
Its all good, at least the type of players that are looking for a realistic virtual world will find it. They are also the type of players that will see straight through these hater's forum games.

Im not blinded by the light of this game or anything, not a 'fanboi'. I have yet to play this game as my computer needs an upgrade, I play DAoC still. I can tell you though this game is worth that good review, and doesnt deserve all the flak its getting by people who dont comprehend what a game like this can be for them.
*OR maybe there is a small anti-RV whisper campaign set up by the plat sellers because they feel threatened by this games ideas. They know they will go out of business if more games sell thier in-game money to thier players.
That's some good insight hedgewan. I had not thought about that, but it makes perfect sense. What possible reason could these haters have for bashing a game that they have never played and flaming on about graphics they have never compared? Certainly one reason, aside from the absurd forum fighting and trying to tear down something different or positive, could definatley be that some feel the revenue system could threaten the way they put bread on their tables.
Good post. Not merely because you are defending the game, but you seem to have hit a nerve with samuraisword. That's interesting. He has been one of the guys here that repeatedly posts negative posts about the game, but has never played.
Your post also rings true about what is happening in Roma Victor, there are already several player built villages sprouting up, with player created housing, devices, tools, crops and stockpiles.

Re reading the thread and specificly your posts in it I have a hard time finding the facts you posted that we should respond to. The only midly interesting post you made was your take on the differences and similarities between potbs and rv graphics.
Other than that few of your posts contained anything about what was discussed in this thread. Like the comment that they could remove the "you are entering" msgs. Seems you totaly missed the point (even semp got it). It's not the "You are entering" part it's the name of the place you are entering, and that's not limited to the places you enter, it's the names of everything.
It's the unpolishness of this game we are attacking, that includes the ugly graphics, the place names, the barren terrain etc etc etc. I'm sorry but if you are releasing something that unfinished to deserve to be flamed no matter if you are a small time dev or large one like SOE. Every mmorpg player I know is tired of paying to alpha test...

Morons. Just another check into why I won't play this game.
I have to compliment you on a decent post Mcgreag. I do agree that the system names should be replaced with descriptive names eventually and many MMOG players are tired of playing games that are still in the works. Your main complaint seems to be that Roma Victor is not "polished" yet. That's true.
However, you many not know this, but within the past weeks a land expansion patch was released that will not only add hundreds of more kilometers of land when opened here shortly, but that also added different types of trees, foilage and ground texture to almost every square kilometer of the current game.
Lastly I'll address the "ugly graphics" again. I asked you to post some more realistic looking graphics and you posted a link to Pirates of the Burning Sea. When I put screenshots of both an RV character and a PofBS character side by side it was clear that the PofBS character was cartoonish and the Roma Victor character was realistic looking.
Now that may just be our preference for graphics. I am interested in realistic virtual worlds and thus prefer realistic looking graphics. You may be more interested in animation. Nothing wrong with that.
It's not just trees. To recap for you, I was replying to his comment about the land being barren. Some areas were barren during testing and the first few weeks of release, but now they are not.
Originally posted by sempiternal It's not just trees goofball. To recap for you, I was replying to his comment about the land being barren. It was barren during testing and the first few weeks of release, but now it is not.
Namecalling is unecessary. You hurt my feelings. You're a meany.
"Speaking haygywaygy or some other gibberish with your mum doesn't make you foreign." -baff
Mcgreag hit the nail on the head. I've played it, thanks Semp but some us have actually played the game. I logged into a game that honestly I couldn't even see when it would be to beta let alone gold. This started from the point I started to create my toon and realized that over half the stuff was yet to be added. My toon had to look like everyone else. You could pick different stuff but none off it had been added. If the developers had waited til the game was complete we wouldn't be having this discussion.
I could get past the graphics if the system under those graphics was engaging but I didn't see it. The game is simply incomplete and I honestly don't see a day when it will have that polish of a game that has been finished. The theories involved seem interesting but so few of them are complete. I don't enjoy the idea of alpha testing, this doesn't mean I didn't want to give the game a chance, but upon entering the world after many crashes and many failed attempts I found graphics glitches, lag waves that no beta game would have and a total lack of engaging things to do.
I love sandbox games but this company truly was asking the player base to alpha test for them, most likely because they needed the funding. I'm not gonna hate on redbedlam for needing funding but when you release a game with few features in game and problems as deep as the ones I experienced in RV you reap the reviews and bad word of mouth that this game has recieved.
Concepts don't sell games, complete games sell games. This isn't a complete game and thats why so many refunds have been given. It took them 3 weeks to respond to and give me my refund. Thats why I continued to play and try to make the best of a game that I honestly never had any fun in but I simply didn't see getting a refund after a couple weeks of no response.
When you post a "review" like the one you posted semp you can expect response such as those that you recieved. Its a partisan review that is clearly there to glorify the game rather than give it a honest review, you throw a couple of negatives in there to make it seem like a review but even then you downplay them to the point that noone will take you seriously.
I actually feel sorry for redbedlam, people like you are truly undermining what they are trying to accomplish. You set the bar so high that those that actually buy into your line of shit will most likely be disappointed once they get in game and have the overwhelming feeling of "is this it". Thats why the developers of the game are trying to quiet you down because noone needs supporters like you. So donj't assume we all hate for the sake of hating. You posted this in the main forum for everyone to read so of course you will get response and some from former players that will try to shine a bit of truth on the web of lies you weave, can't blame us, if you don't want this type of feedback A. be honest within your review or B. post to th RV forums where few of us would see this stilted review.
Yeah seems another crushing defeat for the little guys. This game would be awesome if the devs had to time and money to make it. Of course this is a huge problem with niche games made by very small developers. To get the funding you either need a ton of your own money or a good nurturing publisher, which is a mythical creature that doesnt really exist
PROMISES !!! this is what kills small developers most of the time. Basically these little guys with their big dreams basically put down everything they can dream up on the website as a release feature to attract as many people as possible. This only leads to gigantic dissapointment in the long run however and I can't see why anyone still does it. If the devs of Roma Victor just didn't get ahead of reality this entire fiasco could have been averted. Lag is something that can easily be fixed usually. Graphics can be overlooked, especially in a niche game. What can't be overlooked is simply a husk of a game, that runs like crap.
It also seems they aren't very good thinkers either. Did they beleive giving people customization options that don't work would be a good idea ? As if it was going to impress someone that WOW in a couple of months this might actually do something !!!.
All you fans of this game need to get real. You shouldn't hype up a game you know to be unfinished. It is better to wait till it is and then hype it. This way you are just exposing the flaws of the game you like to more and more scrutiny.
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
treysmooth, I have to say I never expected a post like that from you.
However, the only people misunderstanding my review are those that are intentionally and selectively nitpicking it for ulterior motives, rather than getting an idea of what the game is like. I did not say Roma Victor was perfect, far from it. And I never said the game was complete or finished. Did I? If you think I did, then please try to quote it - that should solve it for you. In fact, the largest paragraph in my review is about technical issues and the small development team.
So, even though you made a decent reply, I still have to point out where you are wrong:
1. My review is entirely honest and factual. If there is any error or something that is not true, please simply point it out and I will go back and edit it. I promise. Calling it a, "line of shit" is no help, and I challenge you to point out why it is. I would be happy to correct it.
2. If you played after release then your character DID NOT have "to look like everyone else," this makes me wonder if you actually played after release. Since release there has been a character generator that allows the selection of your character's face and hair together. Your character's attributes also determine the relative size of your character. Also you can select your nationality which appears when players <space> on you. Of course, you can dress differently too.
3. There was terrible lag during release which was a combination of lots of players trying to login and a problem with the server code. However, most of the lag was eliminated about two weeks later with an update and a couple of new servers. That makes me believe that you likely only played over a period of less than two weeks. My review does state that there is still occasional lag, that there are players that crash - especially if their drivers are not up to date with the very latest (the game seems very picky about that, but new drivers usually fix the issue), and that there are bugs the developers are working on.
I know what you haters want, you want to discredit me and make me look like a bad person because I highly appreciate a game like Roma Victor when you do not. You have to understand that not eveyone is going to enjoy the same types of games as you and not everyone has the same level of patience and understanding for dealing with development issues. So, you do not like the game. That is fine. You have stated so and the reasons why. In fact in my review I point out this very phenomenon:
"Roma Victor is a game that most players will either love or hate; it will not appeal to a general audience, nor does it try to."
Your second main complaint is the technical issues. Well, I clearly gave more than a fair review of those too:
"...must be solved before I can fully recommend the game for anyone interested."
treysmooth, if you honestly see a problem with my review point it out and see item number one above. Otherwise you are wasting your time trying to beat on me, it will have no effect except to result in defensive posts in response.
Who said we wanted him to shut up? I find it funny that the responses keep coming and the hole is just getting digged deeper for Roma Victor.
Thanks for admitting that you are posting here for amusement; also with the belief that what you are contributing to is the death of an independant MMOG and you find that funny.

Nothing any of us say or do will cause nearly as much damage to RV as you do every time you click post message.
Even if you truly did believe that, tetsul, you must realize that you are not a part of the solution by bumping a thread that you think is destructive to the independant MMOG along with replying how terrible you believe the game is.

/agree Keep up the good work sempiternal.
"We feel gold selling and websites that promote it damage games like Vanguard and will do everything possible to combat it." Brad McQuaid Chairman & CEO, Sigil Games Online, Inc. Executive Producer, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes www.vanguardsoh
In otherwords, Jorev is the same, he worships a person that he believes is destorying an independant MMOG.
The truth is he cant stand the fact the Redbedlam has developed a system to minimize the effects of third-party gold sellers and offer no monthly fee at the same time, because he wrongly believes that it goes against the principles that he promotes on the nogold.org website. He would love nothing more than to see the virtual world and innovative no-monthly fee VERM system fail, mostly for personal reasons and to be able to say, "I told you so."
However, here is the first sentence on the Home page of nogold.org:
"NoGold.org is an organization of MMORPG webmasters who are opposed to the secondary market which exists outside of MMORPG games."
Roma Victor's VERM system is not a secondary market. Case closed.
Who said we wanted him to shut up? I find it funny that the responses keep coming and the hole is just getting digged deeper for Roma Victor.
Thanks for admitting that you are posting here for amusement; also with the belief that what you are contributing to is the death of an independant MMOG and you find that funny.

I'm contributing to the death of an MMO by saying that in my opinion the graphics aren't very good? My god, to think of what damage those who have played the game and said it was bad have done! Not once have I said I've played the game, and not once have I said the game itself is crap.
See my character? I'm a smartass. I don't have to hide that and I like to think I make it obvious to most folks. What I find funny with your posts in this thread and in the Roma Victor section of the forum, is that you seem to defend this game religiously. We get it. You're a big fan. But this is a video game we're talking about. No one has shot your dog dead. We're just saying the game graphically is outdated (a few say the game is unpolished and needs a lot of work) no matter what your opinion is on the matter.
Who said we wanted him to shut up? I find it funny that the responses keep coming and the hole is just getting digged deeper for Roma Victor.

I wouldn't mind if RV dies. small companies should stop creating MMORPG's. for a quality mmorpg, you need staff members, a HUGE budget and time. I'm sick of those 10-20 people companies with a budget of 1 million thinking they can create an mmorpg.

You're not fooling anyone but the fools.
/agree Keep up the good work sempiternal.

I wouldn't mind if RV dies. small companies should stop creating MMORPG's. for a quality mmorpg, you need staff members, a HUGE budget and time. I'm sick of those 10-20 people companies with a budget of 1 million thinking they can create an mmorpg.
