Because of the simple fact, newbie towns are deserted. There is nobody there to pk. 9 out of 10 times visiting newbie towns will see absolutely 0 people. The remaining 1 time you might see 1~3 people at most. And that was since C3 which was summer last year. C2 still have like around 10 people at each newbie town.

The people who don't know the town name of Giran can't be real L2 players. Either borrowed someone's account played a day or two, or bought one account off ebay and played a day or two. Anyone who did level 40 class change quest should know every town existed before C2. And level 40 is just the matter of 1 month even for first time newbies. Heck there are total ONLY 9 towns aside the newbie towns.
You probably can't even tell the difference between pvp and pk. Unless you are at a war, nobody would go red on you. 99% chance you actually flagged back, you got what you deserved.
Or you probably didn't even know your friend's account or the account you bought off ebay, actually is a character that in a clan during WAR. Clan war kills on sight, and that is NOT pk. When both clans declared offcial war on each other, it's free kills without penalty, and also dies with only 1/4 of the normal xp loss. The killer does not turn into red name like a real pk.
Real pker will have their name turn into RED after pked someone who did not fight back. And if these red name pkers die, they suffer REALLY HIGH chance of dropping multiple items. As L2 items don't come by easy, no serioius players would want to do that unless it is absolutely necessary such as kill an untagged enemy clan member or the enemy clan that has not declared war back with the system. Random Pkers with RED names are the primary targets for greedy players who want their gears. And ever since C3, it is no longer easy to pk just on alt char with lowbie gears. On the other hand, the RED pkers who did it for the war are left alone because it is politics matter between enemy alliances. Nobody interfers. In that case, they don't randomly pk people for no reason, only the ones who are at war with them.
I was prepared to enjoy L2, especially since I had played Lineage for a rather long time... until I just couldn't take the HUGE grind anymore. I was level 49 and deleveled to 48 during a siege, when I realised it would take me AGES to get back my level... so I quit. I thought L2 would be an improvment. Unfortunately, it was a big let down for me. The time it takes to get to the castle sieging bit is huge. I can't commit endless time to an MMO anymore so it's not even a little bit worth it for me, personally. The graphics are okay, but there is not much character customisation, though anything is better than Lineage in that department. True to it's Asian roots, there are bots and farmers everywhere. You probably didn't do it right. Level come by easy at level 49 if you do it correctly. With buffs and correct gear setup and spam soulshots/spirtshots, you easily can gain 10% an hour Solo even at level 65. lvl 49 is a lot more faster. The harder grinding really start at high 60s. 73+ is horrible. Castle siege death only lose 1% per death, if you die 50 times a siege that's becauae you...suck

I played lineage 2 through chronicle 3 I believe it was... I left just because of the time investment needed. Alot of the naysayers here are saying that the community blows, too many people buying and selling virtual items with real money, bots etc etc etc. First all of these things can be said about every mmo released. From UO to WoW there are botters, a$$hats, people buying and selling virtual items with/for real money, hackers, sploiters cheaters and grievers.
Do not kid yourself in thinking your precious game, "Insert name here", is free of these problems.
No, sorry... I meant I deleveled in Lineage, the original. I didn't play L2 very long after launch because I just couldn't invest the time in it to keep up with my guild. I'm sure if I had and had been able to get to the castle siege bit, it would have been good fun. It's just the sort of PvP I like... guild v guild, faction v faction... anything but 1 v 1. I had great fun in Shadowbane, beta and early release... right up until I couldn't log in anymore due to their tech issues.

L2 is one of the best MMO's out in the market right now. I would say EVE has the better setup, but L2 runs alot smoother.
I've been away from the game for sometime, but mostly due to time constraints more than gameplay, in fact I love the gameplay.
Just a couple things I wish L2 had, are ShadowBane attributes. The ability to build a castle or city, or even any kind of usable building would be great. 2nd, the ability to loot a dead person you just killed. And I wish items had decay, of course, the value of the items are waaay to expensive to have that implemented, but still, it's my wishlish!
Well, to any of you out there looking for a new MMO, I encourage you to give L2 a shot. The game is very friendly to new characters, and I didn't even know all this stuff about academy's....that is very sweet.
Of course, if you're a carebear type player, this isn't the game for you.
I have been away from the game for a while, so I'm not up to par on the current state of botters, but I do know there have always been botters, and honestly, they can be friendly at times. Some, not all though.
Anyways, I hope to be rejoining L2 soon....Work, Rental Properties, New House, and New Baby have all been keeping me away. AKA - Work = roofing in case you can't guess.

You haven't tried to reasonably debate or discuss anything so far.

I have stated simple facts that random pk on newbie became impossible after C1, but I guess he has too little knowledge about L2 to even understand what I was saying at all.
I should add, since C2 the npc guards walking everywhere outside newbie towns made reds impossible to escape. And these npc guards are stronger than level 70 players. And no level 70+ players will risk their xp and hard earned gears by going red on newbies for no reason. Never mind the fact that red pkers will be sent to Flore village after 1 single death where it is impossible to return to newbie towns.
It was clearly he probably played 1 day or 2 in Beta or C1. Where nuts could just create a level 4 character in 20 min. armed with top non grade level 20 weapon 1 shot the newbies. When they die, they'd respawn just 50 meters away and come back for some more like nothing happened. These are all ancient history.
As for higher levels, everybody is in a clan/alliance. you grief someone for no reason, you risk getting your own clan being attacked by their entire alliance. Or maybe your clan leader will just kick you trouble makers. Note that it's not because of the clan leader being carebear, but often clans/alliances are already at war, it is a BAD idea to pull in more enemies because of a single troublemaking fool.
So stop exposing more and more of your lies with every post...
