Darn, beat me too
Though your post title should read.
SIGIL EMPLOYEES TERMINATED?
I mean, how many times do you get to start a post on something like this?
I feel for those employees and their families that were let go(if true). I dont know what this bodes for Vanguard. Im reserving judgment until the official announcement

Thank you. And I will agree with you. It would be very harsh to terminate people like that without even two weeks notice.
But then, this is SOE. Maybe it's not so surprising afterall. Let's hope some of those unfortunates saw the writing on the wall and were prepared for it.
I feel for those employees and their families that were let go(if true). I dont know what this bodes for Vanguard. Im reserving judgment until the official announcement If it's just a rumor (a very terrible one), it won't last long. Once us night owls run out of moonlight to subsist on and Sigil employees are up for work (or not) tomorrow, they should (or should not) be able to squash the rumors over at SilkyVenom; if not tonight.
"G'Quon wrote, "There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain."

- just came to my mind reading it; it may be true of rumor, but this day will come anyways

We'll see tomorrow I suppose, one way or the other. Either way, I know that I'll be checking all the major gaming sites all day tomorrow.
"But I do know that at approximately 4:30PM today, Sigil employees were told to meet outside" From the link.
Well, now i'm gonna be wondering all day tomorrow.
If this is true, why in the hell would you ask everyone to go outside to fire them. An email wouldn't have worked, an inter office memo perhaps. I mean, what, you lore them outside with false hopes of a suprise company picnic. Seems strange to have everyone go outside so that you can fire them. A hole way of doing things if it's true. I'm gonna dought it though; will see tomorrow.
I dunno.
Was posted at 10.32 on SV forums. No one from Sigil responded in the last hour. If it wasn't tru, seems like it would be prudent to squash the rumor quickly.
Edited for correction.
Assuming the "news" is true, SOE bought Vanguard, and that's all there was to it as far as SOE's involvement in the proposed day's events.
1. Brad McQuaid is NOT the MMO guru he himself has fashioned to be, lured by blind fans and friends and EQ1 was basically a lucky shot (lucky that he left early)
2. There is just no way to turn the tide which has evolved towards casual friendly and fun-centered MMOs back to 1999 gaming
3. A big money investment NEEDS a big audience not a niche game, since money does not grow on trees
4. Responsible are 100% the bosses, like Brad McUberwannabe, but the bill to pay have the developers who did what they were told. As ever. I really hope Brad doesnt stay in Sigil or anywhere else. HE is responsible!
So dear Brad, as the saying goes: don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Good point. In fact there was an additional rumor that SOE might hire some back. I hope that is that case, for the sake of the employess.
It's still a rather harsh way to tell people, but I guess there's no good way to break news like this.
Elikal - well said.
told inside that they could delete or alter critical files, source, notes, emails, design documents,
destroy computers, format hard drives, etc.
If you have ever been involved in a surprise layoff, the company does not want to take any chances
that there will be some form of retaliation by the affected employees. As for giving them two weeks
notice, most companies will pay you two weeks salary beyond the termination date to make up for
not giving you two weeks notice ahead of time.
It sounds like Sigil is out of the picture all together and SOE is either the proud owner of the game or
worst case it is all being shutdown. Several weeks ago, when Brad said that ultimately it was good
news, leads me to believe that VG has been sold lock, stock, and barrel and that SOE will keep it going.

Confirmation enough for me. Wow, that's terrible.
It was simply a matter of time. Sigil did everything wrong. Future Developers should analyze Sigil closely and do exactly the opposite. They were able to get some money in their "pay for beta" scam.
Vanguards best hope is to become another "Matrix Online" or "Planetside". Put a lot of Developers on it initially in order to make it at least playable and then keep a few Devs around to keep the power cord plugged in. In other words let it die a nice, peaceful death. It was an abortion that never should have seen the light of day.
Well if SOE is taking it over and moving development, it is about a 40 minute drive from Carlsbad to SOE headquarters.
That does not bode well for the game though if they are laying off staff, this game needs a lot of work yet.
Unfortunately if this does hold true, I'm not surprised in the manner in which it was done. Usually in situations like this where there would be any possible security concern (in terms of the work they would be doing) they most likely would just given two weeks pay or some such and shown the door without much of any notice.
Depending on the workplace environment they will also pack up your stuff for you as well so you don't have access to your station. It's just too big a risk to let someone have access to a company's documents and property in this day and age. Losing their work for two weeks while still paying them will be of little thought to the company, in fact they will most likely do some write-off in terms of accounting anyway for the acqusition of the game.

Blame Sigil for creating a rehashed bad version of a old game. SoE just pulled their ass out of the fire.

Thought I would beat out the vanboi's by stating that.

There's no sense in keeping around 100+ people who you can't fully utilize, especially when you already have your own personnel. If Brad is truly selling the game over to SOE, I can't be too surprised that they're going to let a few people go.
However, if this is the manner in which the layoffs are being handled...well, I guess I expected more from SOE.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
