blizzard has NEVER concidered merging servers, they offer free transfers to low pop servers from "full" high pop servers. They do this all the time. that is why you see "full" go to Normal, because people transfer servers. But hey I guess having an blizzard employee friend means I know nothing..... <shrug> Now go play Maple Story son.
I love that you speak with such certainty. It's almost like you work for them. I'm glad someone that knows everything decided to step in and tell us why we're all wrong. Thank you.

The thread is getting quite long, so I don't if this has been posted before.

Anyway, there are some interesting graphs from Census Plus over here going a year back.

According to them, I wouldn't say WoW is dying anytime soon, but rather on an ever so slow decline. But mind you that this decline is from a very high number.

He is very correct with this statement sure people will quit but it wont be millions of people at a time unless blizzard really messes up because i know plenty of people who have asked me about wow and have started to play it so 100 people leave 100 more join until another great mmo comes out wow will be great and also with a new xpac going to be announced at Blizzcon in August hmm looks like wow will still be alive

its dead. people are tired of it. for gods sake yesterday i just ran around on my mount inside ironforge for almost 2 hours. and that was it.
  • bozobucketerbozobucketer Member Posts: 11
Instead of running around on your mount, I HIGHLY suggest a few things.

    1. See how many times you can jump across the canyon without falling in.

    2. Pretend that the floor is lava and that the squares are safe and jump around.

    3. See if you can reach balconies to closed houses.

    4. Dance naked in the lava/fire pits.

    5. Buy one of those balls and keep throwing it back and forth while trying to run away out of line of sight so the other person keeps it.

    6. Hide and go seek.(My personal favorite)

7.. Alt+tab looking for an mmorpg that is worth playing.

Reason why people think MMO's start to fail, but really aren't is because WoW rise has reached its peak. There is no where to go but down now, but like previously stated, its going to be a slow fall, because of the amount of customers WoW has.

And if I were a betting man, I would bet WoW would rank #1 in sales of all MMORPG's for still years to come.

It has another good 2 years left.  Only 1 expansion so far, I would say 2-3 more before crap hits the fan.  Blizzard will learn from this first expansion, hopefully, and do the next one better.

With over a  3 million customer base, they got way more thn 2-3 years life left, I say prob another good 4-5 years.
  • deplorabledeplorable Member Posts: 418

what is amusing is that the majority of their player base over 3 million are in China...

amazingly they haven't even sold as many BC copies as they have Chinese subscribers...

what's even more funny is that BC hasn't even been released in China yet...

Goes to show Blizzard doesn't care about the numbers.. for some odd reason.

I love the people who say WoW is dieing and then point out they dont play anymore.

Just because you quit the game is not at an end. Get over yourself.

As much as it pains me WoW is still king and will be until some other game out there is good enough to draw people away. Its a big idictment of the MMorpg world that there is no such a game yet . Thats what people should b worried about, not whether WoW is doing well or dieing.

WoW dieing? Ha ha - wonder how you would describe the state of EQ or DAOC?

I can't believe this thread has gone on so long. Yes people leave WoW every day, but so what - new people join every day as well. WoW will continue to be the top MMO out there until something comes along that appeals to a similar audience and is clearly better.

    EQ2 tried and failed

    SWG tried and failed

    Vanguard tried and failed

EvE goes for a different audience

LotRO came close, but it offered an equivalent game two years too late (better in some respects worse in others.)

Maybe something like WhO will eventually supplant WoW in top spot, but until then, WoW is alive and well.

I will have to admit wow won't die anytime soon until Mythic brings out Warhammer than wow will be dead... but until then the little kiddies who dont know how to play a mmo wont let wow die.... For us others who know how to play a mmo we will continue to play great games like eq 2 etc.... Folks it's not about how many play this or that .... I am happy eq 2 has lower sub than wow that means the kiddies are playing wow and the rest of us can play our mmo like eq 2 without them and we can have a wonderful mature community!

So keep loving wow and it;s cartoonish grpahics and chuck norris jokes goo luck with that.... thats what also stands out soe from the rest they dont tolerate kids and we dont either! so to all you wow fanbois good luck with the kiddies!

P.s. ALSO ONE DAY WHEN YOU BECOME A MAN COME OVER TO EQ 2 AND JOIN A MATURE COMMUNITY!

WoW is definitely not going down:

Huh? It's not guessing it's actual stats taken from the server. People run a mod that checks the /who list and finds all the players online.

Guesses? Please explain what you mean. This isn't mmochart or whatever that site is that just guesses at the player base, this is actual stats taken from in the game.

Is this the same folks that did the mmo chart website and base their information on stats provided by blizzard? Cause in game statistics are probably a bit more accurate of the actual player base.

    Ummm?

You are aware that they upgraded the hardware a short while back to in part reduce lag, correct?

One of the effect of that is the server population caps were raised substantially. Each individual server can now handle more simultaneous players. So the "High" "Medium" and "Low" population scale shifted, not the population. A server that used to sit at "High" with a population of 2000 players connected, now sits at 'Medium" with 2200 players.

But wait! I forgot WoW is DIEING!!!!!
