You cant really go wrong with a Lian Li, They are top build quality and are basically really nice peices of kit. My personall favourite in Lian Li's for looks is the PC-6070 (http://images.aria.co.uk/mainimages/CSE-MID-LL-6070A.jpg) It has sound proofing throughout and looks the dogs danglies.

Id say one of the nicest looking cases out there is the Thermaltake Tsunami (http://www.casetech.co.uk/images/ttva3000b.jpg). This case is simply stunning when you see it in r/l (better than a G5 anyday ). There are other versions of this case too, coolermaster do a similar style case called the wavemaster. This case has decent airflow and will definatly impress.
Modded Cases
Of course you can mod any case if you have the skill and the tools but im talking about pre modded cases here. First up i like the Aerocool Jetmaster case (http://www.casetech.co.uk/images/aerocool_jetmaster_jr_silver.jpg) it is a complete extreme in modding really, most cases usually have a window with an LED fan but these guys have gone all out to provide a very unique look.
The next case is bound to impress if you pack it with cathodes and lazer LEDs, especially if you want a disco inside a box! The Jeantech acyrlic case (http://www.casetech.co.uk/images/jtech_clearcase_clear.gif) it comes in various different shades. There are a few other companies that also do the clear case.
Thermaltake offer a uniquly styled rrange of modded cases aimed at gamers, and LAN party goers. My favourite from their series is the Xaser V Wingo (http://www.casetech.co.uk/images/tt_v8000a.jpg) It has fan controllers built in and looks the shit .
Well there you go, just a few in a wide selection of cases. Of course a good monitor and speakers can really make your rig look great. Now its for you to decide which one takes your fancy
Ideally i wana upgrade my dell pc but if thats not possible then to build one for online gaming but use non important parts from my pc (mointor, keyboard etc). Mainly want a fairly fast pc for £500.
I decided to take a look at the sytem I suggested for ViolentY and decided to give you a second AMD option that will save you some money to spend on other pc parts.
In place of the socket939 Athlon 64 3500+ go with the socket754 Athlon 64 3200+ for $282. This will save you $215. I wouldn't suggest going with anything higher in socket754 as the cost would approach that of the socket939 3500+ cpus.
Now for the mobo. Unlike socket939, since it is a new cpu, there are a lot of socket754 mobos to choose from. I would suggest the ASUS "K8V SE Deluxe" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 754 CPU for $120.
The only mobo you would save money on over the socket939 mobo would be the ASUS k8v mobo for $120, and that would only save you 9$.
For a cheaper solution on you RAM, you might go with Mushkin 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 Level One Dual Pack for $239. It will save you bout $26 over the corsair xms ram.
You could also go with Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 for $237 if you wanted to stick with corsair xms ram.
I would stick with the Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD, OEM Drive Only for $183 - $20 rebate for $163. For the money, it would be hard to find a better 10,000rpm hd.
You could go with a cheaper graphics card, but the ati X800s and nVidia 6800s are the best and fastest right now, if not a little pricey. If you did go with a cheaper card, then go with the SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP for $194.
You could also go with the eVGA nVIDIA GeForce FX5900XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "e-GeForce FX 5900XT(128-A8-N323-TX)" for $184.
AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512k L2 Cache $282 ASUS "K8N-E Deluxe" NVIDIA nForce3 Chipset Motherboard for $143 Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 for $237 Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD, OEM Drive Only X 2 $366 (you get $40 back after mail in rebate) eVGA nVIDIA GeForce FX5900XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "e-GeForce FX 5900XT(128-A8-N323-TX)" for $184. Monitor - NEC/MITSUBISHI FE991SB-BK 19" SuperBright Diamondtron CRT Monitor - $247 Thermaltake Black Xaser III Skull Series Screwless Mid-Tower Case, Model "VM3000A" RETAIL $99.00 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-133-118&depa=1
This would cost you $1,558 + tax & shipping from Newegg. This would leave you just under a $1,000 to spend on speakers, keyboard, mouse, dvd drive, cd-rw drive, and any other accessories you wanted. You could still go with the Radeon X800 series or nVidia 6800 series video card as well. This system would still be a fast system with good fps and high settings on L2 and other games. You can upgrade you memory on this system to up to 3gb I believe, and AMD has the 3400+ and 3700+ cpu's in socket754 you could upgrade to later when they are cheaper. I almost forgot about the pwr sup. I would go with a Thermaltake W0014 Silent Purepower 480W with Black housing - Xaser Edition ATX 2-Fan Power Supply for $56. Very good pwr sup for the price.
On the cases, Coraith suggested some good ones as well so don't feel you have to go with the one I suggested. There are alot of cases to choose from. Just don't spend too much money on the case and make sure it has good air flow and isn't flimsy. Well good luck and let us know how it goes.

Kala i had a budget of £500 a while back and i went to www.pcrack.co.uk, they are cheap if you dont know what your doing but their customer service is truely dire, i wouldnt reccomend you use them, try www.vantagedirect.co.uk instead. Seeing as your British you may want to buy your parts from www.ebuyer.com as they are the cheapest around in the UK becuase Newegg hasnt got here yet. You may also like to browse www.aria.co.uk, www.casetech.co.uk or www.armardacomputers.co.uk for a larger selection (just not as cheap ) You can get a pretty respectable system for 500 quid, your probably looking at an AMD Athlon 2500+ CPU and something like a FX5600 or Radeon9600 (go for ATi) with 512 decent ram or 1024 of unbranded. You will be able to get a cheaper slower dvd/rw but hey they still write dvds . You could wait a month or two and ill have my site up and running and ill be cheapest of the lot!
As far as playing Lineage2 goes, would I be able to play at top graphics performance without lag? Or would I still have to lower the graphics quality some, like I do with my computer now?

With the money you save by x'ing one of the harddrives, you can get a eVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6800GT for $409.99, if you can find one in stock. Then you could really fly ViolentY.

Im undecided about which graphics card to get, I've just bought my new pc minus the graphics card so i'm looking to buy one... but i don't really know too much about which is good for what.
Im using my PC for gaming and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a decent graphics card to get for gaming.
At the moment i've been looking at these:
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB(Price: £134.47 £158.00 Including VAT at 17.5%)
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128 MB (Price: £191.49 £225.00 Including VAT at 17.5%)
There is a largeish price difference between these two cards, and I have a budget...kinda.
Which would be best to get? or should I forget about these two and go for a graphics card like the ATI 9800 XT 256 MB once I can afford it? (Price: £254.47 £299.00 Including VAT at 17.5%)
Not sure why you are only considering ATI, but personally I've been disappointed in the performance of most 128 MB cards, especially when compared to their 256 MB counterparts. Performance etc. especailly in many newer MMORPG's and with many of the new FPS' coming out I would look for a 256 MB card that still offers most of the features you want. In the long run especially, you are better off saving up the money and buying a better card than spending the money now, and having to upgrade again sooner.
Um.. i thought about starting a new topic but it seemed more prudent to post it in here. Sorry if it goes off topic...
Im thinking of setting up a small LAN over mostly for shairing documents and the priter accross the house but also for LAN parties. Metalfoxus, tbh i think in terms of value:performance the 9800 still represents the greatest buy and will still perform greatly on games for a few years yet.
For the person who asked about Vaios, I have known several people who all had Vaios, both laptop and desktop, and they loved them--for about a month or three, and then their machines invariably got flakier and flakier. Sony's got a lot of good products, but the Vaio isn't one of them. They're also more expensive than Dell and the other usual suspects, so I would recommend not going with them. Their monitors are very good and beautifully designed, though.
After doing a bit of a research ive come up with this spec :
ASUS K8V/SE DELUXE S754 £76.84
AMD(NEWCASTLE) 3200 PROCESSOR £179.66
KINGSTON 512 DDR400 PC3200 RAM £65.64
CONNECT3D ATI RADEON 9800 PRO £136.29
WESTERN DIGITAL 36.7GB RAPTOR 10KRPM £68.28
TOTAL : 531.99 INCLUDING VAT & P/P ( all from ebuyer.co.uk)
As i mention before i,m looking to build a fast gaming pc for around £500.
Will be using case, monitor, sound card& speakers, keyboard, mouse, dvd rom, modem,o.system from my old pc (a complete new pc build will cost me £1100)
Was wondering if this is a good value for money spec and whether any conflicts with the parts (eg no point having a fast "a" if "b" is slow) and whether i,ll be able to upgrade/clock it easily ( dont wana clock it too much tho).

Ahh, cases, that my forte. I spend alot of time checking out the latest cases becuase i am a keen o/c'er, therefor the airflow inside the case is vital. Keeping your components cool is not just good for ocing, it prolongs the life of your parts and alows them to work better. I recently bought the Coolermaster Centurion in black (http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&p_serial=CAC-T01-EK&other_title=+CAC-T01-EK+Centurion%201). I bought this case becuase it was cheap (i am poor) and it has a number of modding possiblities. Ive drilled a space for a 120mm fan to blow onto my graphics card and mobo, it really helps to cool, knocked my temp down by 11 deg C. It looks to me you have a considerable amount of cash, so you'll be wanting a top of the range pc case. Lets face it a beige box isnt gonna impress your friends. Although the case is down to personal preferance i can still help you out
As you can see from that page of my case its not got a side window or any flashing lightts etc. I prefer the simplistic stylishness of it, ive gone through my phase of likeing neon tubes and LED fans, BUT you may not so ill give you some pics/info on some of the 2 different catagories of case .

Secondly i like the Chieftec Dragon series (http://images.aria.co.uk/mainimages/CSE-MID-C-DX01PL.jpg). They provide the best value in cases full stop. They are cheap but have an extremly high build quality, same of the Lian Li cases in my opinion. Which is good for people like me becuase i cant afford Lian Li's most of the time Basically, all Cheiftec cases are great to work with and look the biz. The dragon series comes in various different colous (the purple one is my favourite, Its alot darker than the picture. It looks really aggressive )
Id say one of the nicest looking cases out there is the Thermaltake Tsunami (http://www.casetech.co.uk/images/ttva3000b.jpg). BTW, scratch the 2 WD Raptor harddrives and go with just 1. Read this article at anandtech.

That's what I wanted to know. I'll stick with IBM. No problems with IBM.
