If Everquest 2 was comparable to WoW it would have comparable numbers. I've seen EQ2 ads on every videogame website so the visibility is there. People do try it but they don't get into it like they do WoW.
What sites are you talking about? The only site I've seen a EQ2 ad on is MMORPG.com and I HIGHLY doubt the majority of WoW players even visit game sites.
Oh and you actually need a decent computer for EQ2

You just walked into this one.
Last year Starcraft 2 was announced in Korea. It was not on the evening news. The only way I knew about it was from gaming sites running the story.
A week later, Starcraft Battlechest lands on the top ten PC games sales charts. A game that's nearly 10 years old.
All that just from a sequel announcement being on the front page of some gaming sites on the web, the same place you can find EQ2 ads pretty regularly.

What top 10 PC games sales charts? Isn't the battlechest 10 dollars? Who in the world hasn't heard of starcraft?
Whats your point? I know what point you're attempting to make but Starcraft 2's announcement was spread throughout the world on word of mouth and it having MAJOR attention on any website even remotely related to gaming also helped..
You're trying to parallel EQ2's little ads on some websites with the explosion that was starcraft 2, a hiiiiiighly anticipated sequal to a game that is more popular throughout the world than wow is now

oh and point out where I can find all of the expansions for 19 dollars "all over the net"
Your asking for popular opinion about which game is better, yet the public has already spoken. How have they spoken? By going out and buying MILLIONS of more copies of the World of Warcraft.
Remember, these games came out at about the same time so EQ2 hasnt really got a leg to stand on. I dont play WoW anymore, but this really is a dumb poll.
I think in this case the winner is at the finish line sitting in his Porche with a hot chick in his lap and a Martini in his hand laughing at the loser who is still not even half way through the race.

I'm not taking a side, but your premise is somewhat flawed.
EQII has much higher system requirements, and is not designed to appeal to the Asian market.
EQII has things that WoW lacks, and visa-versa.
By your logic (Porsche analogy and all), one could argue that a Toyota Camry is "better" than a Bentley.
____________________________________________ im to lazy too use grammar or punctuation good
come on guys you have to be realistic here..... nothing against EQ2 but it just doesnt have the player base that WoW has..... I MUST agree that WoW has a VERY immature player base..... go into Orgrimmar at 2pm and its silent for the most part and then go outside and watch the duels and u will find very competitive and very mature duels.... go there after school lets out at around 4 - 430 and its so pathetic how many special olympics arguements break out...... So really i would have to recommend finding something that YOU will be happy with and like someone else in this thread has already said (i think lol) almost all of them have free trials.
As someone who currently plays EQ2, and who has played WoW since release I can say that they are both good games. What WoW has going for it is it appeals to a -much- wider spectrum of gamers then anything out on the market at the moment. PvP, PvE both casual and hardcore, kids, teens and adults. EQ2 is a casual pve game (Though the RoK expansion has ramped up raiding considerably), aimed at the more mature crowd. Is this to say mature people don't play WoW? Of course not! It's just that the ratio of players 16 and under in WoW, compared to the ratio in EQ2 is far different.
You can't say which game is better, you can only say which game is better for -you-. I'm currently playing EQ2 because I've been playing MMO's for 10 years, and I decided that its just time to settle down and "Retire" somewhere. EQ2 was a stable, still fun, and more casual game, which suited my needs. And while I'm in a raiding guild thats currently working on the new content, its completely non-stress, and the guild, and all the guilds on the server are solid. WoW is in constant upheaval, which is only natural with a 6 million subscriber base, I didn't want to deal with everything that went with playing WoW.
Will I go back to WoW? Nope, I'm done and over. Do I still think its an awesome game that I would recommend? Of course!
Will I leave EQ2? Probably not for years. Do I think its an awesome game that I would recommend? Yes, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.
If Everquest 2 was comparable to WoW it would have comparable numbers. I've seen EQ2 ads on every videogame website so the visibility is there. People do try it but they don't get into it like they do WoW.

Here's my point: Blizzard makes good games that people want to buy and play. SOE doesn't. There's plenty of factual evidence to back that up.
oh and point out where I can find all of the expansions for 19 dollars "all over the net"
All the expansions? Check the bargain bin in a few months. Every time they crap out another expansion of EQ2 they throw it in an all-in-one retail box and people STILL won't touch it.

That's the difference.
i agree... wasnt trying to say only kids play it but they definately outnumber the more mature players of MMO's. I actually loved playing EQ2 until my best friend quit playing. So i started back on WoW (which i was in the beta)
K .............how bout customization wise?????? how do these game stack up to each other when it comes to customizing stuff??? i dont think ill see much of that in the trials and customization is one of the things i really like in an mmorpg
World of Warcraft. Everquest 2 just isn't as fun as WoW.
While I agree WOW is more fun ( allot more ) of those two EQII is the superior title.
Do you brush your teeth with sandpaper too?
If I'm not mistaken, I think I just heard you say that WoW is a lot more fun, but EQ2 is still somehow superior
/boggle
*Shrug* I'm a registered Independent as well, I know sacrelige!!
While fun is my number one factor in choosing a title it's certainly not the only one.
One has to take into account other aspects as well. Game mechanics, AI, crafting, character customization, character development, skill sets, audio, graphics, armor, environments, & character models are also points to consider.
So while I found WOW more fun, when adding up positives & negatives in all aspects EQII was superior in everything save PVP. Just because I enjoy a title better doesn't make it the best one.
Yea..I know objectivity is a hard concept for some people..
as much as i hate comparing thing to wow, eq is like the retarted cousin......not a bad game but just past its time...its reached its peak and is falling fast...stick to wow for now....but i hope AoC and WaR kill wow lol finally people will stop talking about the PVE game of the century thats all wow is....long raids for a chance at weapons.....so boring
Both are good games....and really depends on what you want....if ya want a game thats very casual friendly...play eq2...if ya have alot of hours to kill play WoW

Customization is EQ2's strong point. WoW doesn't come close. Maybe in a year or so, when they come out with their 2nd expansion, they can make some changes to their character, but EQ2 has had that since year 2. Actually, if you want the truth, EQ2 is better in every category than WoW, except:
You need a better computer.
PvP would be considered better by many.
Oh, and I wouldn't say EQ2 is past its prime considering it has more population than when they launched, and is still climbing.
BTW: Everything Saint4god said about EQ2 was completely wrong, even the number of characters. Not gonna post a two-color essay, but he didn't get any of it right, except for experience debt which is .5%. That's 5/10 of a percent. One kill, lol, and you don't have to go back to your corpse, ever, and don't have to pay anything to get it back.

Agreed.
As for the population. Yep. Heck I returned. Even Gamestop/EBGames is sold out.
[ Played ] 2Moons, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest, Everquest II, Guild Wars, HellGate: London, Lord of the Rings Online, Rappelz, RF Online, Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, World of Warcraft, Last Chaos
Take the trials, read reviews, watch player videos on youtube, and find out which one you think you will like more. It's a simple solution, Although some reviews aren't exactly great and trials don't scratch the surface of most games, it's better then buying a game and not liking it because you decided to listen to the "fanboys" (no insult intended)=|
I've had people tell me to play some games because everyone's playing it and it was best thing out there... Just because there's more people playing this, or there's more content on that doesn't mean you will like it.
So do some research(all games should be researched before you buy them imo) and again, find out which one has the content that you will most enjoy.
I'd say play the trials and ignore the reviews and media. SOE's thrown alot of money into the graphics and voiceovers but the gameplay itself is very lacking. It's easy to find an overly gracious review and some nice-looking gameplay videos but neither will tell you why the game has underperformed.

Yea..I know objectivity is a hard concept for some people..
It's not a hard concept if you accept the fact that Fun is not the reason for playing games. Thus the sandpaper concept.
As far as I can tell, all those aspects are developed to improve one's enjoyment of the game.

Heck, I might buy a copy of the Battlechest myself later.
And I hope you didn't overpay for your copy of EQ2. You can buy it for $19 all over the net.
That "word of mouth" thing of yours made me laugh. Is that what everybody was talking about at work the next day? Where do you work anyway? McDonald's or KFC?

Wow I had a funny feeling that you read articles from that assclown apache haha so where is the official sales list? Quoting that tool isn't proof of anything
Yes "word of mouth" somehow means the same as "watercooler chat" to you... if thats the case then do YOU work at mcdonalds or KFC?
So let me spell this out since you have trouble doing it.. you're saying that SC2 wasn't all over the internet a minute after it was announced? You compare ads on gamer only sites to a gaming phenomenon like Starcraft? haha where the hell is your point? You need to rethink your approach, because you made the biggest mistake when you compared those 2 games.. pretending that SC2 was a small announcement that ONLY the same demographic as those that see eq2 ads is a crime against anyone with a brain.. please stop
oh and point out where I can find all of the expansions for 19 dollars "all over the net"
While I agree WOW is more fun ( allot more ) of those two EQII is the superior title.
Do you brush your teeth with sandpaper too?
If I'm not mistaken, I think I just heard you say that WoW is a lot more fun, but EQ2 is still somehow superior

I think this may be the most silly post ever.
By your logic (Porsche analogy and all), one could argue that a Toyota Camry is "better" than a Bentley.

come on guys you have to be realistic here..... nothing against EQ2 but it just doesnt have the player base that WoW has.....
Senomar
That's the difference.
What sites are you talking about? The only site I've seen a EQ2 ad on is MMORPG.com and I HIGHLY doubt the majority of WoW players even visit game sites.

YOU find it. So far you haven't contributed squat to this discussion except your "word of mouth". Good luck trying to prove me wrong.

Here's my point: Blizzard makes good games that people want to buy and play. SOE doesn't. There's plenty of factual evidence to back that up.
oh and point out where I can find all of the expansions for 19 dollars "all over the net"
All the expansions? Check the bargain bin in a few months. Every time they crap out another expansion of EQ2 they throw it in an all-in-one retail box and people STILL won't touch it.

i agree... wasnt trying to say only kids play it but they definately outnumber the more mature players of MMO's. I actually loved playing EQ2 until my best friend quit playing. So i started back on WoW (which i was in the beta)
K .............how bout customization wise?????? how do these game stack up to each other when it comes to customizing stuff??? i dont think ill see much of that in the trials and customization is one of the things i really like in an mmorpg
zerg if your going for customization you should definatly go with everquest 2. I hate how my char looks like everyone else in WoW
While I agree WOW is more fun ( allot more ) of those two EQII is the superior title.

Dutchess Zarraa Voltayre
Reborn/Zero Sum/Ancient Legacy/Jagged Legion/Feared/Nuke & Pave.
Go for WoW, it's far more better than EQ. I have never seen such a good fantasy world as in WoW.
as much as i hate comparing thing to wow, eq is like the retarted cousin......not a bad game but just past its time...its reached its peak and is falling fast...stick to wow for now....but i hope AoC and WaR kill wow lol finally people will stop talking about the PVE game of the century thats all wow is....long raids for a chance at weapons.....so boring
Both are good games....and really depends on what you want....if ya want a game thats very casual friendly...play eq2...if ya have alot of hours to kill play WoW
Agreed//
Thanks Impyriel for the sig^^

That's my two cents...
I'd say play the trials and ignore the reviews and media. SOE's thrown alot of money into the graphics and voiceovers but the gameplay itself is very lacking. It's easy to find an overly gracious review and some nice-looking gameplay videos but neither will tell you why the game has underperformed.

It's not a hard concept if you accept the fact that Fun is not the reason for playing games. Thus the sandpaper concept.
As far as I can tell, all those aspects are developed to improve one's enjoyment of the game.
