WAR , the mmo with MORE expensive subscription fee !

LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

I was reading a faq at TTH site when i came over this !

WTF...that is all that i can say

Q: Will the game require a monthly fee to play WAR?

A: Yes, and EA Mythic's President Mark Jacobs has stated that the subscription fee will quite possibly be more than the standard $14.99 that most MMOG's charge.

EA STRIKES AGAIN !

Or, you can retain some integrity and not buy this game to show the industry that we consumers will NOT support a monthly fee that is higher than $15/month. There is NOTHING SPECIAL about WAR that warrants a higher monthly subscription fee. With all the games out there, I'm sure you can find something else to play without having to give in to corporate greed.

    Interesting.

For me, this would push WAR into the automatic 'Wait for 3 Months before buying & subscribing" category of games.

To allow the box price to fall, and perhaps 'Special Offers' and Trials to be available.

If they were to do this, I suspect it would result in lower initial participation by the community.

Prices for these games should be going down, not going up.

Not a good move, I am thinking.

First off Provide a Link to Said 'quote' and second the information isn't even fully confirmed as in its just speculation from the company its self there's no confirmed SOLID retail price, retail box, or monthly sub fee.   Even if it is more expensive I plan to play it if it'll keep out the cheap asshats.

btw Shoal prices for games never go down they only go up with increased spending on making the game.

MMO's have charged $14.95 for a while now, its not a suprise that some want to up the anti a little more.  $19.95? eh probably wouldn't pay that much myself unless the game has proven that it is something completely different and deserving for such a high price (not saying it will be $19.95, just a hypo).

Of course there is great risk in charging more then the normal price; if people decide not to immediately like the game on the first couple of days they will immediately cancel rather then "give it a try" or even let the subscription linger, as other games experience (SWG).

I saw a interview with a developer of WAR (don't know the url anymore) and he said it was going to be $15,99 or €13,99, maybe they changed this. (it was a old video)

    But $15,99 is only €10.75

    argh why am I european?

yea but the thing is that 15$ a month for 30 days entertainment as much as I am able to and want each day, isnt really that much money? 50 cent a day if my math isnt as bad as I think it is? oO so it wouldnt surprise me if the new subscribtion fee would be 20$ in 2012 or so... maybe earlier, but if WAR is going to try and take a fee of 20$ already.... well I most likely wouldnt pay unless its REALLY fun. So yes I would pay the new subscribtion fee but only if I felt the game was worth it, but I doubt any game will be able to make me pay that until maybe blizzard is done with their new ongoing mmorpg game wich points to being set in the diablo universe... though if they fukk up the gothic grim style of graphics to replace it with cartoony krap so everyone can play it with their computers from 1996.... then it will be even longer -.-

Any particular reason for this line of thinking?  These games are costing mega bucks to build, up to 75 million or more, require tons of marketing, support, etc.  Salaries go up every year, as does the cost of just about everything else.

Why do people think the price of MMORPG's should stay the same or go down?  Like everything else, the price will go up, and I guess Mythic might take a gamble to bump it up to 15.95 or 16.95 since the game is so highly anticipated.

Meh, I'll play it even if it goes up to 19.95, not like a couple of extra bucks for an online game is going to ruin me.

That’s ok with me last time I checked they invested alot of time and money into Warhammer. Where EA invested over millions in the game just for advertisement. In this world nothing is free you got to pay above the standard to get alot.

What kind of crack are you smokeing to think Warhammer Online is THE state of art?

And paying for quality. WTF is that about. Theres enough junk now that charges $14.95 to play. Monthly fee has little to nothing to do with the quality of the product.

I ageain challange you to point out any one thing that Warhammer Online is doing that is state of the art?

You cannot be THAT much of a noob.

I also expect Mythic to release a solid product.

But upping prices is just greed, greed, greed.

Which is fine, as long as the seller is willing to take the reduced volume of players.

And remember, MMORPGs are all about volume of players.

Quite frankly, I think the next AAA title that launches at $10 mo rate will be the one to really put a dent in WoW sub numbers.

    Might never happen.

    But, something to think about.

Like with any other product it is an quality/price thing. Seeing we do not really know yet the quality of the end product we can not decided if the price is right.

The chances of a AAA title coming out and charging 10 dollars a month is .... well just a dream chance as in it'll never happen.    Even if such random chance through the improbability drive chance actually ever happened it woudln't hurt WoW.  People don't play WoW because of price they play wow because for what ever ungodly reason they really love it or they're Blizz fanbois.

I am looking forward to War as my next MMO, but I will refuse to pay more than $15/month.   Honestly, I think that above $10 a month is a too much seeing you pay $50 for the initial game.

And yes, I have seen the threads of people stating how the $50 goes toward the development and the $15 is the to upkeep the servers and add on / further develope the game, but at some point I think it's gone from upkeep to greed.

Perhaps they are too sure about  their "fanbois" that dont care about the price cause is their "moms money", but I think this can be a bad option in front other games. Btw, WoW was very expensive (yes you pay as a standalone game and then the fees, when it was launched the mmorpg didnt do this, they give you the client free and you pay a fee) and it got lot of marketing and followers... Really hope other companies dont take this as default or the mmorpg comunity will surelly have a problem.

Actually this makes me remember the release of Lords of the Realm 3.  If anyone watched its development the game was scheduled to be released with a price of $49.95.  The week before release news came that it was being released at $19.95.  At that time a huge war started over whether the price indicated the quality of product.  At launch people had their answer, it was CRAPPP!  So maybe the sub price indicated the quality of the game, but with EA invovled it won't.

On the verge of boycotting anything EA, thank you for the Crysis f'up.

Let's bomb that question mail so we get an answer?

What is the monthly fee for playing WAR?

  • LeucentLeucent Member Posts: 2,371

It could be $20 a month and i could care less. I remember many times saying when cigarettes hit $3 then 5 then 7 etc i would quit i still smoke. I really doubt it will go up and if it does it will be .99 which is what 20 pop cans returned that i m sure most will drink just playing the game each week:)

If you don't like the price, don't pay it.  It is really very simple when you look at it.

Took a bit of looking around but I did find the FAQ where he got this and alot of isn't stated as FAQ speculation and the usual dodging of a pure answer since the game is not even gold yet.   BUT if you look at the link above on the over view section you'll see NOTHING is in stone yet so people should stop freaking out Lobotomist is constantly posting things with ulterior objectives usually to cause trouble.  Let him rant and rave cause problems and hopefully get banned on his own..or maybe he'll get bored n go back to the AoC forums that he frequents.

They never said it will be ANYTHING as far as price merely looking into possiblities like every game does.

Ah sorry seems I misread the text.

To the answer "don't like the price don't pay it" Although I agree, this however does not mean someone can not have an oppinion about it.
