on the topic of pvp having a concequence..... its all about pride. in some games dying dosent harm you but in daoc as I recall when you lose a fight you actually got very upset and you didnt want to give up points.

Not only were you fighting for your realm, you were also fighting for your team/guilds score which was posted each week on the website. That made the game WAAAY more competitive than other modern mmo's by that fact alone.

everyone wanted to be number 1

On the death side to add: in some cases (like City seiging) 'death' actally takes you out of the fight all to together, in those cases it's not 'oh I died, I'll run back in' it's the 'oh %^&^ I died, game over for me'.... Even tho theres no meaningless debuff (yes I said meaningless as no current death debuff as yet to stop me from fighting), the points rewarded to the other facton for teir control, plus the time it keeps you out of the fight thas IF it lets you back in the fight at all, I feel is enough.

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

DAOC failed and has hardly anyone playing because noone likes it.... so what does Mythic do? Create a clone of a failed format. Greattttttttttttttttttttttt.

lol this ones just gonna go down the same shitter and hopefully they'll learn their lesson that they can't create mmorpgs and EA will ditch em and put their own staff on WAR and then NGE it.

I wonder how DAOC failed like you say, it's still alive, kicking and fun even after the years, if you compare it to all the crap released this past 3 years it's still the best pvp oriented game. Just yesterday we were like 50 hibs taking mids keeps and more than 50 mids defending, while albs where attacking on the other side of the map on the classic server... so much for dead.

You not trying it, or liking it doesnt make it a failure, just go spam you favorite WoW forum, you will probably be one of those guys who bash and then will be the first to play it.

Corse i'll play it to see if it's good but from what i've seen it looks like Mythic screwed up Warhammer, i mean why couldn't they just use a new engine not a 8 year old one. Also DAOC did fail cause everyone quit it cus it sucks and i saw why with the bad controls that arn't fluid and a horrible UI and everywhere was empty and zoned..... doesn't come close to the seemless user friendly explerience of WOW which was sooo much better polished at release than DAOC even like 7 years today.

Best PVP? People say that but i found it rather boring and unbalanced and just really lame. The combat in the game is sooo bad and it suffers from bad spell effects and combat animations and everyones standing still like in these WAR videos we've seen which makes me believe it's going to  just be DAOC2.

Saddens me to even say it but WOW has the best PVP around atm and obviously the 10 million people playing it think so too, but oh look at DAOC sub base which is probably around 100-200k max.

    lol.

  • naldricnaldric Member UncommonPosts: 909

Someone who use WoW and best pvp in the same sentence just loose credibility, from what you said you didnt play DAoC and its game engine isnt the same it's an upgraded engine from DAoC.... you are like saying the Unreal engine is the same as the U3 engine.... like i said go play wow and keep us out of your uninformed posts.

Specially because of the non existant death penalty that I'm afraid will contribute to a disorganized battle where everybody is dying, respawning, running to the front, dying, respawning... ad eternum and without a clue about what is going on.

aside of the flames, this is the first thing I thougt. Perhaps lot of peeps think how nice it can be leading one big group and doing an organized battle like table game or films. But this is hard to get. Why? cause people, today, is so individualist, and all want to be "heroes", or "the one", the most important, so, first of all, must be hard to select a lead, when you got a lead, lot of this people will do what they want aside what lead says so... perhaps it will be a chaotic Team Battle... so you got reason, at one part, it can be a big WoW BG or perhaps, like a crazy FFA FPS.

At the other side, lets wait to see the game, I didnt test it, so this is just an impresion on the information I got, waiting to see how it will work, not only the races, not only the classes and their balance. Perhaps it can be better a 8vs8 or 10vs10 organized Guild battle... but this turns the game elitist (like Gw)... so... lets see how the devs manage this... hope isnt a chaotic ganging fest...

    Absolutely agree with you.

Not much more to be said I think, all opinions have been clearly exposed and we have a limited information.

I only hope it's not a dumbed down version of what people have explained of DAOC.

I mean, you can have the best system, but if battles are meaningless due to a lack of death penalty, then all the system is meaningless.

For your information I started playing EQ in it's first year, until PoP. Yes I have played WOW too, but you know, so many people have, it's good to know how WAR is different from it, because a lot of gamers want something different, me included.

Its not about if YOU live or die but if you fail at protecting (capturing) enemy territory. So the consequence of death (not doign well)  if that your side loses ground .. .. and eventually your enemies ransack your capitol. This is generaly more kind but still motivating system.

OK... I can be very enthusiastic about taking the enemy territory with my comrades. Then I got two options. Do I go slowly, hiding, securing ground? Or do I run for it help-me-god and attack the first enemy I find, if I make it without dying first? My decision will depend on how the system is designed.

If the first time we try to go slowly and the enemy just zerg us, and it works because, for instance: 1) they dont' get tired when running and 2) they are back in action in seconds after dying, the next time we will do the same, screw tactics. So it will be basically many YOUs living and dying over and over again.

And WoW does have a death penalty? ooo you have to run to ur body.  lol sorry but no it is not a Big WoW BG, trust me there is plenty of depth per zone, and many different ways to go about playing the game.

WAR = WOW, its just another level based grind fest clone, im more than sure youll end up raiding for gear and spending hours on end trying to get that 1 extra level in order to compete in PVP.

If you had played DAoC you wouldnt think this way, I can bet there will be a lot more of a DAoC feeling than a WoW feeling, and thx mythic for that.

Off with you Troll posters.. (If you do not KNOW what I mean, check wikipedia for troll(internet) )

Do not post stuff like ''WAR sucks'' on a WAR ''fan'' forum just to see when ppl post things like ''Na-ah'' or ''You stupid retarded WoW grinder, you are just like Swedes who are trying to steal Sauna from Finland even though Finns invented it'' kind of post...

Of course WoW has 10mil players but it is becouse there isnt any better MMORPG:s around... YET. Atleast not as ''good'' PvE games but in PvP Mythic kicks Blizzard's puny little gnome ass.

(For all you ppl who know only WoW language: Blizzard is the Über L337 PvE game with has liek 10 milllllxx!!11!1 playahs but WAR has alredddy over 500kk!1! Beta Applicants... And whun the adZ come out about WAR I bet the number will be 10 times bigger LolZmaomao.) <-Doesnt mean to hint anything but.... Well... WoW sucks <-3 year experience of it speaking.

AND there wouldn't be WoW or any Warcraft games without Games Workshop who ordered a WARHAMMER GAME from Blizzard but becouse they couldnt agree the Blizz just did a cheap copy of Warhammer and started to call it WarCraft.

+ They started planning WAR before WoW but they had some issues with publisher (Or something like that) and let the game be for a phew years.

So you cant say that WAR is just a copy of WoW becouse infact whole Warcraft is a copy of Warhammer World.

Man i really love  post like this one!!!!    i really do they all worried like omg someone is going to rip off ideas off of WoW!!!   well the truth has always been leached out from time to time that WoW riped off  every mmo that was made before it (ducking and covering now, and now im starting a conspiracy  acording to WoW fans)

But what will war be? will it be Daoc but a better version of it or will it be WOW like they all anticapate

Tell ya the truth i bet it will be more like Daoc where it take someone that has skill insted of one button wonders such as in WoW but i did almost forget wow riped that off daoc ! yea thats right one hit wonders in Daoc everyone who has played daoc know about Stun NUKE NUKE NUKE.

It  don't really matter anyways who rips who off blah blah blah  as long as it is fun to play, im their

I did play DaoC, and guess what? yep you guessed it People started making a bee-line to level 50 in order to RvR and "start the game" same with WoW everyone makes a bee-line to 70 in order to "start the game" same will happen for WAR.

So like i have been saying, WAR is nothing new, its just a run-of-the-mill level based grind fest with a different skin.

What i find really funny, is the amount of sheep and cattle that sit around listening to the dev's as if they have cured cancer or created something new and epic, when the sad truth is its the same old same old with a different skin.

    sad!

That post really feels weird to me, since in DaoC you dont make a bee-line to 50, u can start pvp at lvl 1 and go all the way up from bg to bg and lot's of ppl just cancel the xp gain to stay on the same battleground... oh i know you will say that's exactly the same as grinding quests in wow....

Of course there will be similarities, games in the same category tend to have the same mechanics... i m by no mean saying it will be a revolution, but, if you dont like MMOs maybe you should consider playing something else...
