Don't worry it's only an old beta client. The closed beta testers have the new version of the client that runs great. It's optomised for dx10, quad cores and all the newest hardware.
We just have to take their word for it because they apparently don't want the closed beta testers to tell us all how great this game is.......
Nope not canceling. If anything I think I am happy that I did preo-order. I am having a blast. Played around 5 hours last night, like the combat system so far, the graphics are very nice. I will be playing for a while for sure.
beta doesnt tell you enough to make a decision about *loving* the game
I'm not cancelling my preorder
I dont think AOC sucks but I'm not inspired by it either - but hey, its something new
I hate to disagree. Open betas are there to sell the game. Sure, it is to stress test, but open betas in any game are to give the player base a look at the game to let them see if they want to buy or not. If you think otherwise, you are sadly mistaken. I've been around the MMOG community for 15 years and know what open betas are used for it. It is called marketing. If it wasn't, they would not have lifted the NDA for the open beta.
QFT, very few changes happen in the last bit of beta as well. It is truly marketing.
I didn't vote because I haven't betaed the game but for Funcom to put out an older beta client for the Fp beta to me was a bad choice IMO because they only have one chance to put their best foot forward and this to me is not doing that! They should have put out the client the current testers are on so the FP testers could see the best Funcom has to offer!
I haven't voted, nor have I pre-ordered. I did take part in the pvp weekend though and saw some promise to the game but not enough to pre-order. Ideally I'll snag a buddy pass and have a looksie after launch.
One thing I will agree with though -- I understand Funcom is looking to stress test but if they really are using an older client for this beta, it sure is a gamble on their part. Players have every right to be concerned that this could turn into another VG fiasco and at least some official word from Funcom could go a long ways to calming people a bit. In the same breath, I think players need to loosen up and keep in mind that beta, even 15 days before release, is still beta -- things do get fixed in that caffiene and adrenaline sustained frenzy that is the lead up to launch.
I am canceling mine today. I know it is a beta but it is the beta less than a month to launch and it's performance is actually worse than Vanguards was. Waiting for 15 minutes for a zone to load when you are on a machine that far exceeds minimum specs doesn't bode well for them in my book. Looks like I will be stuck playing Mass Effect when it comes out because I don't want to suffer thru another V:SOH launch.

I have to disagree with you. From my experience playing AOC yesterday, I experienced less lag than I do currently playing Vanguard. I understand there are people reporting bad problems such as excessive lag, 15 minute load times, etc. I don't know if this has to do with their system or what, but other some lag in Tortage I haven't had any problems.
I will say that the load times are longer than what I would like, but they are about 1-2 mins at most for me, not 15.
ok ok mini bitches, you can go back to your WoW location and stay there till your life ends in the loony-bin. We don't need you in the Conan world. Less wining from you, more joy for as, asskickers

Glad you are lucky because I have tried multiple pcs (all well above required specs) and they all perform pretty much the same.

I'm not playing the beta. I never do. Just hate downloading the HUGE files that today's games require. Also, not in a hurry to get a "look see" of the game.
I pre-ordered, like I do most new MMO's I'm interested in, and will install from the CD's. Not even remotely considering cancelling my pre-order.
Based on the personalities of a great deal of "haters" I see on the forums, I would hardly take their advice on anything that would sway my own opinion. I'll give the game a serious try, as I do other MMO's, and I'm confident it will turn out to be a fun experience.

Had exactly same xp than you .
15 mn for launch then freez CTD etc.
Worst than VG ? Yep probably.

Agree.
Hope we'll have in the future a decent game, I mean not perfect or creative or next gen BUT simply WORKING.
Overal the impressions can be labeled as mixed blessing, a fair cry from AoC being the second comming of MMO's.
Funny thing is that somebody mentioned how AoC was first and foremost designed as PvE game. Good luck Funcom, there is a lot of competition in that department although I suspect 80 levels to grind and a dozen 24 men instances will keep some WoW hamsters happy. That is those hamsters that feel like starting from zero and whos computers can handle the AoC software mammoth.
PvP wise, well, there is a PvP title comming later this year and methinks it has better chances then AoC in PvP department.
We will see how this pans out, it can still prove to be a decent game (at least for some) but the second comming of MMO's has been debunked.

Also, we are up to 500 votes. Again, thank you for all of the participation in the poll.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
I have played for a while, loving the game. My preorder stands strong. Only got a couple of DCs so far, no other problems. FPS from 30-60 depending on the area, indoor areas lag for a while after I enter but after 4-5 seconds its ok. I understand those that have technical problems, but these will be fixed. The content matters to me and what I've seen is enough for me to be convinced. See y'all 5/17
Glad to see people enjoying the fileplanet preview! It is important to post both what we like and don't like about the game. Remember, don't forget to vote after you've played the beta.

Players are showing obvious signs of maturity. Alot will be waiting and that gives me confident that Funcom wont be able to pull of another Vanguard. Even tho it looks they are trying to do their very best to launch a game that has no stability and subpar content of what was supposed to be in.
Now you only have to make it so they know how to read the first post instead of the last ones.
Heh. Well, we did have a thread already with a poll, 500 votes, and nearly 150 comments. I mean seriously, the OP of that thread should have been able to get some valuable input in this thread but said no one answered his question in this thread.

Hmm I bet now Funcom wish they didn't make it fileplanet exclusive, seems the statement of beta was over passed. Guess you should have just had it for your fans that registered on the site since ever! That'll teach you Funcom.
In all honesty they are going to loose money because of this, some people don't understand or don't care it's in beta. If it doesn't work for them or they have problems, pull the plug heh. I see an AO launch coming around the corner.
[[ DEAD ]] - Funny - I deleted my account on the site using the cancel account button. Forum user is separate and still exists with no way of deleting it. Delete it admins. Do it, this ends now.
A couple of time when i logged on, the server load was medium. Just thought I would bring that up since all I have seen is people who saw light loads. I didnt notice a differance in FPS between them though, i stayed between 38 & 64 fps the entire time i played with the average droopping slightly when i raised the graphics lvl.
I like what I played so far. I need to play more but the game has a good concept on gameplay, and i think it is more or less good implemented, but it could be better.
I played a Hunter, a Dark Templar and a Tempest of Set, all up to level 5. This night I'll try a Herald Of Xotli or a Bear Shaman. And in the next days Ill pick up one and level it all the way to 13.
Personally, I think people are being a little melodramatic about all this. Yes, its still in beta, no I'm not in beta. Do I give a rats ass that I'm not? Nope. Am I still going to buy it? Yep. Why? Because, like many other MMO players, I live in the reality that it won't be bug free at launch.
People always start screaming how the devs should pull the plug on the latest MMO because its so buggy. Guess what? Bugs are to be expected. Crashing is to be expected. Even immediately after launch.
Now, the real question is how fast Funcom deal with them?
If you don't like the bugs, then don't play the game, wait for a few months and THEN play it. Yes, no doubt FUNCOM wont have a completely bug free launch. But seriously though, name one mainstream MMO that was completely bug free at launch. And please don't name WoW because that is a lie, the US launch was just as bad as others. The EU launch was better because Blizzard had ironed out a lot of problems by the time the EU launch came about.
No matter how far back devs push a launch, there will always be issues that the devs didn't predict. Such is the life of owning a machine that is so customisable that making games for it is far, far more complex and more prone to bugs than trying to make a game for an X-Box where the configurations are far more alike.
So, rather than just scream that the sky is falling, that Funcom lied, or that Elvis is holding a gun to your head forcing you to play the game, give the project a chance. Either that or don't play it.
Now, if Funcom still haven't ironed out the crashing / corruption issues for the majority of players within 6 months, then we can start to compare it to the likes of Vanguard.
Something tells me however, that Funcom ain't going to get to that situation. No company in their right mind would.
There are a few puzzling things to me that don't add up or make much marketing sense. First of all, why would Funcom make the FP open beta on an older client? And then suddenly lift the NDA so everyone can bitch about how crappy the older client is. This is everyone's first impression of the game, wtf were they thinking? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Whatever genius at Funcom decided that was a good idea needs to be fired.

What I can say is this:
I have been in beta for several months.
Age of Conan is not the something new and something great that it is being marketed as.
I never pre-ordered the game.
I will not be pre-ordering the game.
I will play under a guildies buddy key come launch.
I will decide during the time of the buddy key trial whether or not I will buy then subscribe to the game.
I can say that Age of Conan will only be an interim game for me if I do sub.
