Why would I cancel? It's the sort of game that makes all the past games I play pale. I can't play them anymore lately because AoC is just more brutal, exciting and adventure filled.
canceled my account and uninstalled the game as well, just 3 days after release. I realized I was having fun playing Oblivion. I didn't feel I was in a massive world. It is just instance after instance. I even joined a guild before the launch date, still was hard to meet them online.
I just canceled a few minutes ago. It's an all right game, and the combat is interesting. It's also easily the best looking MMO I've ever seen. The main problem I had with the game was the amount of instancing in the game, as well as the linear gameplay in the tutorial area. I honestly didn't play that far into the game afterward, but the length of time it took me to complete the starter area and the fact that it's so linear means it's extremely unlikely I would make multiple alts.
The game really reminded me of Guild Wars, but a little more open. I saw enough people in the game world to make it more multiplayer than GW, but with it not being an open world, it's not MMO enough for me. If I wanted to kill a mob that was being parked, all I had to do was drop into another instance and the mob was alive and not surrounded by other players.
Playing through the tutorial area almost makes me wish this game were either released as a Guild Wars type game with paid content expansions being released periodically to make up for lack of monthly fees, or a single player type campaign. It's not something I would want to play for months on end, but like with Guild Wars, I might want to pop on for an hour or two every once in awhile.
too much instancing not enuf open world.. technical issues with it running on some computer... same ol same ol' MMO not enuf to keep me playing....
i see you play eve....that game is more instance than AOC.
they are just called gates in eve
No those are called zones not instances, there is only one version of them not many versions.
Why does it matter if the game is instanced, it makes it easier to quest so you don't have to fight over mobs.
They have it set so if your in a group with your friends you can get into the same instance as them.
I bet most ppl that are complaining about the instances are the ones that like to spawn gank on pvp servers and there targets just decided to switch instances so they don't get ganked as soon as they spawn.
Everybody should know that MMORPG releases today, go hand in hand with bugs and poor performance.
Just wait about one month to let Funcom fix the most annoying bugs. And to let many people go back to their old game, so the performance gets better automatically.

No, I really don't believe that's the reason. I can't however answer your question, guess it's just because that's the way it was back in the old days, and that's what everyone defines as an MMO game. That, and that is destroys immersion. If you play a game online, you want to get the feeling that you're playing with thousands of others. However, in the case of AOC, I understand that the instances are big enough for the player to meet more than enough people, which then would mean that instancing doesn't destroy the immersion factor. Hmm.
I would choose a non-instanced world over an instanced world, but it still wouldn't make too much diffrence.
My subscription is still very active. I personally am enjoying this game enough to pay for it.
I don't forsee cancelling my subscription anytime in the near future.

Power and money, money and power mean nothing. Good always triumphs over evil. Love, True Love Never Dies." Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
there will be A LOT, thats always at a mmo launch but now theres even more ppl cause quite a few trusted the game cause of all the hyping tbh before launch i thought they could hold on to about 250k subs after 3 months now i guess they will get around 100k. still a nice number but everyone anticipated more a few weeks ago well at least they sold a lot of boxes, im glad for funcom since i loved AO a lot. however i cant see buying me buying this game anymore, WAR seems the next option... or i need to step into the world of WoW theres just not much more on the mmo market atm..
Yup AoC was a total letdown. Just about unplayable. Darkfall in 6 months will be fine.
darckfall will probably be worse than vanguard ( if its even gonna be released) the team behind it absolutely suck
Having now played AOC for 4 days I can honestly say that it is totally unispiring and a great letdown.
I am still playing Vanguard having restarted recently and it is great fun , small community. AOC is soinstanced no community will ever form!!
At the moment AOC is well behind WOW, DDO , EQ2 , Vanguard it just beats GuildWars. This is not an MMO with respect to the game world and mechanics great dissapointment.

Exe you talk sense I would just add that, as of level 30 I have met one person it is like a glorified single player. And the world is not a world its is just lots of small instances. There are no mechamics to build community unless you want to be a guild slave , I just want to meet and make friends but it just won't happen here sadly.
Very Very uninspiring no world feel , the old MUDS have more immersion than this. This is just a single player with a few arena games tagged ionto the end. No longevity at all so so sad.

i guess its really down to how much nice graphics are important to you . conan seams be all image and no substance to me . i m not keen on the level caps in each zone and all the instancing . the combat does nt seam to offer much more than the hack and slash approach you get on some consol rpgs . also i m not even sure i would even class age of conan as an mmo with all the limits placed on the number of players that can be in any one place at any one time .
nice looking game but at the expence of gameplay . nah not for me i m afriad
also my feeling is that you dont feel part of game world , more a fragmented community of gamers .

dont you wish people would refrain from putting up tag lines like this . its a gaming forum . i dont know who this is a quote from but whoever it is needs some serious pychological help . it sounds like something adolf hilter would say if he were alive today . its offencive and has no place in these forums
Not sure what server you're playing on, but I'm always seeing people and often I'm trying to do the same quest as them, makes for pretty quick pugs. If you don't see anyone, then you can change instances using the yellow arrow in the mini-map.
This game is not a lot of button smashing, EQ2 holds the title for that. It's also not as simple as auto-attack on...wait for the cool down. This game is holding my attention unlike any other MMO I've played, and the first computer game that has made me stay up far too late. The game mechanics aren't quite like other games, and it requires a computer that is no more then 2 years old...this will limit the number of people who will like it.
IMO I think the world is limited due to the game being release on the Xbox. Funcom have shackled themselves to the Xbox's limitations. It's a shame I think AoC would have been amazing and pushed more boundries if it was developed as a PC title only. As it is AoC is a fun game, but not a great game.
buccanear i m glad someone brought that up . to me everything about aoc reminds me of a game designed for the consol market . i know this is only a straw poll but if even if its close to accurate conan will lose at least 100 thousand players in the first month . i gather theres about 400 at present >?
I will quit playing once my 30 days are over. I loved the game in OB and EA but once I got out of Tortage I got to see how empty the game was that and they hosed the game for my wife since the may 18th EA patch.
the quests aren't very challenging, it is very easy to level and solo, the gear sucks and the tech support and customer service are the worst I have ever seen in a MMOG, utter garbage.
I do love the combat and the graphics, I like how they put out a mature (take it for what you will) game and for mainly that reason I hope they get their act together and succeed so other companies will produce mature titles.
no matter what I still have my CE discs and if they improve their game and support I can always come back. to everyone that enjoys the game keep fighting the good fight and as long as you are having fun it doesn't really matter what I or anyone else says.

To the OP, no I have not canceled my subscription yet, but I'm becoming more and more disturbed as the bugs become more and more apparent.
Yep i cancelled the game, the "WOW" factor gone, you see the real AOC, it's bad, shallow and boring.

That could change in six months time.

thats not an instance. Thats a zone. An instance is sub zones within a zone.

thats its biggest weakness.
Two of my good friends have already cancel there account reasons:
1) Far to much instanced in the game
2) PvP is simple buttonsmashing
3) Game is still in beta, bugs
4) Tech spec is too high
5) Community
