I just watched one episode, but the goal is for a bunch of these guys to actually pass off as ladies in public to strangers and such. Don't think it's like the bachelor where they are pining for the heart of someone, but they do have eliminations and immunity challenges like Survivor. Maybe the seasone finale will be to win the heart of some unwitting man or something.. Who knows.

LOL, one of the guys actually looks better dressed up as a girl than he does as a guy! All I know is that show is what I call entertainment...

  • ColdmeatColdmeat Member UncommonPosts: 3,409

Ok. It's a different show then. There was a Bachlorette type show, expect it was a transgender guy impersonating a girl. When the guys on the show, who had made out with him/her, found out, they went a bit batshit to say the least. Some of them filed suit with the producers. I think the show was in the UK, but I never heard anything about it other than that one tidbit.

My female char also got married ingame at one point. The guy she married never once asked me if I where a girl rl, and neither did most of the people she interacted with during the time I played that game. Was also my impression that the more mature players doen't really care if the player is a girl rl or not... as long as she didn't go around hitting on them, which she never did. image

Must say she did get alot of help time and time again (both items and on quests), but she never once asked (yes, never once, ever) anyone if they could provide her with this or that for free. She would just ask some armoursmith what he would charge for a padded armour (for example) and he would say stuff like "nothing" or "for you 50% off". She would then tell him she had more than enough money and he would say he didn't care, and that was the end of it. image

I so hated beggars and didn't want anyone to think my character as one or a *prostitue*.image

i think some younger high hormonal kids are about the only ones who go about with girl characters or flirt with thema and might actually cause any sort of ruckus about it

I just noticed something playing today. When I am grouped with people I don't even really pay attention to sex. It's a game so I just look at their class, level, and how skilled they are. Well, I shouldn't say that I don't notice, because I guess I do, but only visually. In real life you see a woman and it conjures lots of things that go with it. In EQ2 I see a woman character and that's all I see.

So to me, it's not really important what people play, as long as they are happy with it.

Truthfully, I think this should be locked.  I dont think its fair for someone to say im a gay weirdo crossdresser because my daughter plays mmos she likes creating characters and running around killing snakes and lizards or rats or whatever it may be. But I as her dad enjoy helping her out (twinking) her character. So when she comes over weekends she has little stronger weapon or a much better looking outfit. And mabye a few lv's so now instead of fighting snakes and lizards shes now fighting bears and gnolls. Plus I use her character as a mule holding money or items. Explain to me why I'm doing wrong.

Hope too see you all in Everquest2.

awww. that's sweet. ^_^ that's the way my sig other will be with our daughter when she gets old enough to play.  the only people that are saying all those things have something image. i don't understand it, and you can't debate it with them because you'll just get that level of maturity in their answer.

    O M G -

has anyone tried that free thing for Guild Wars? This would cause a riot! LOL. There were %60 female characters every where I went. IMO the females looked and acted WAY too much like the light elf females from Lineage 2. That's kind of the reason I'm not going to log back on. The first character I saw was an elementalist (that likes to display her well endowed chest) named Chapped Thighs. Nah. Not for me. I felt like everyone was looking at me 'knowing' I was just another guy playing a chick toon, image which I wasn't...

Im having trouble decifering what everyone is saying here. Maybe it's because english isn't my first language. I think I see in Ojisans post stated that he thinks every guy playing a girl is a "high hormonal kid"? Wow, if thats true I must be some teen kid whos never gotten laid in my life and am now trying to let off some steam by jerking off to some character in the game im in love with, even though i myself have created her... Is that the gist of what people think of guys playing girls in a video game?

PS: not being all sarcastic here, I really do have trouble figuring out everyone's viewsimage

Its either that or they want to look pretty and imagine what they other male chars will do to them after they are showered with gifts and moneyimage

Ok. How about roleplayers then? Guys who say they are roleplaying their girl character for what they call "the fun of being someone completely different". Are they just trans, cross dressers, , gay or at least bi, trying to satisfy their needs via the game?

Edit: Is it impossible for a guy NOT to be sexualy deviant (no offense meant to any real gay people) to be a female character?

Seems like quite the preconception imhoimage

  • VineyardVineyard Member Posts: 180
Actualy Slyngel, the general gist here is quite divided. One group that thinks guys that play female characters are homosexual, perverts, molesters or some type of deviant. Then there are those of us less slight minded individuals that know that alot of guys play female characters for no other reason than that they just want a change. Not everyone here are uber insecure masculine caveman minded fools.

It's a double standard. No one sees anything wrong with a girl playing a guy character, but if a guy plays a girl character, all hell breaks loose. So the logic of a guy playing a girl character is that he is gay/crossdresser in RL is totaly bogus. I sure don't want to be a guy/lesbian when I play a guy. By that logic, every guy that's played Tomb Raider/Metroid and such are gay/crossdressers? Try to make yourself feel secure in some other aspect of your life other than trying to tell people who they are when you have no clue.

Men dress up as women and roleplay women in real life and you can use whatever term you want to describe them.  I wouldnt call it deviant, as that would imply not normal.  I dont think we could peg what normal is, or if we could most of us would be deviant.

Men dress up as a woman and roleplay them in the virtual world, which is connected to the real world, and emmules the same perspective as above but removing themselves by 1 layer(instead of them wearing the dress and interacting they are interacting via thier character which is wearing the dress).

Its not just roleplaying a mythical creatures that is occuring but roleplaying the opposite sex of that mythical creature, if in fact this is the reasoning used to justify the choice of a female character for a male.  So by roleplaying a female char as a male you are envisioning your world on the screen from a female perspective which has male to female (really a male) interactions.  Because of this I do not see any difference between the first 2 scenarios if roleplaying is the reason for a male playing a female char.

If the reason is to look at a "hot" imaginary char on the monitor, well there are other problems here.  As a male I enjoy looking at real female bodies that are good looking (clothed or unclothed).  I enjoy looking at them on the internet, tv, videos or real life.  I do get "excited" about looking a female chars in mmorpgs, so I do not really understand this position.

I see your point Vineyard, and in case youre dizzing me Aeryith, please look earlier in this thread where I clearely state that I HAVE indeed played a female character and that she was the single most fun character I've played ever.image

The preconception that guys playing girl-characters for the sheer fat-beggin-loot is, im so sad to say, imho well founded. I have myself met loads of these underdressed, pigeony (pardon my language) #%&@ trying to get by by showing off some skin. Problem is, these people are SOOO easy to spot, since they (to me) obviously have no idea how girls really are. Again, if you look at my previous post I've taken almost all of my character inspiration from my girlfriend... a girl to all you who believe guys playing girls are just gay... and when I finally told what few people who actually asked my RL gender that I was a guy. They gave me a sporting thumbs up for good roleplay. I think the main reason is I didn't dress like a slut and asked for everyones cash and items all the time. Im sure you'll agree Aeryith, that RL girls don't go about showing their lips-legs-breast-&-ass to any guy just passing through, all the while asking for moneyimage

PS: That double-standard youre talking about Aeryith can also be translated to real life; If a guy beds loads of chicks in a short time, hes a stud. But if a girl does the same thing, shes a #bleep#. Just plain wrong way of thinking imho image

Edit: Excited? to the point of wanting to have cyber? I'm trying to tread lightly here but isn't the revulsion of males playing females then based in a fear of shame from being turned on by someone who then turns out to be controlled by a guy? If I continue along that line wouldn't that mean that it's not masculinity that is being hurt when I play a female char, but  anyone getting "really" turned on by female toons?

My reason to play a girl is twofold (and YES I DO ALSO play male characters), first its much nicer to look at, and secondly I do roleplay the girl like I believe a girl behave RL).

The reasons for a female playing a male char are so the "males" dont try to hit on them all the time, which is very understandable.  Since that does occur then males playing females should expect to get hit on by males.

When there is no choice in gender of the game character to play you are stuck with that char and dont make a consious choice of one gender over another.  I dont see how this logic applies to the discussion since the options are play a female char as a male or dont play the game.

Other than playing his daughters char the only reasons I have heard so far are the roleplaying aspect and the "looking at hot butt" on the screen.

Ahh so this discussion is about opinions...but those that oppose your viewpoint are as you call it "insecure masculine caveman minded fools" and closed minded.

Neither viewpoint is right or wrong its just opposing viewpoints.

And? How does that make guys playing girls in an mmo gay?

In my opinion it depends on the reason that they are playing a female char.  If it to "flirt" with guys and get loot, or cyber with another guy then IMHO that would be gay (not that there is anything wrong with it).  I do question roleplaying as a female while being a male without doing the above.

If you dont really care what your toon is and just go for stats, or dont roleplay (aka powergame) then it doesnt really matter what gender your character is.

  • SlyngeLSlyngeL Member Posts: 10

Oh well, what few people who manage to pull it off (without flirting, cyber or anything like that) are far between.

I only met a very few of these during my time as a female in swg (or maybe they where girls rl... never asked), and they (like my character) had to almost constantly /ignore slobering men ruining our fun by hitting on us all the time. Imho its the men playing men that are the problem. Not the men playing women... at least it was in my case.

Edit: sory for all the edits... articualtion is sometimes a bit off. As I said english isn't my first language.

oh i'm not dizzing you. image

someone said that it's OK to play a girl charater when your 'forced' to, but it's not when you have a choice? bah. isn't that a double standard too? in such a limited view, that statement in it's self doesn't make sence. some guys are just homophobic and are scared to hit on a chick and it turns out to be a guy and then they must be gay... and oh my... i can't keep up with this thread anymore image you guys keep on debating and i'll just keep playing and not caring if the chick i'm partied with is really a guy. it's not like i'm gonna hit on her/him anyways. image

i'm just glad i'm not a guy so i don't have to deal with all this b.s. image

See what mental stress we guys have to go through?image Seriously though this is the most fun thread (seing as there arent any WoW'ers crashing here, and the great exchange of oppinions for once WITHOUT anyone reverting to direct or indirect names-calling)image It's been a long time since I followed a thread like that.

Edit: even greater still when it seems to be such a sensitive subject image
