I got Guild Wars in 2005.

I still think it's pretty alive.

You can find people everywhere, and places that were deserted in 2005.... are still deserted even now :P

I just got into 5 groups right now, what are you talking about!?

I agree the graphics do look a bit outdated, but i still love the detail of it. It still looks better than the cartoony look of Warcraft :P

I also still got lots of spells and profesions to test out with :P

I love Pvping with diffrent tactics, and ways to own someone everytime.

Guild Wars 2... is approching (hopfully) and with that release... it might reduce the population of Guild Wars drastaclly... but Guild Wars isn't dead. It's far from dead.

    Long live Guild Wars!

ok guild wars is awsome:) the only problem with the game is that all the people are now past my stage (i am lvl 20 doing the final missions on prophecies) and i never find players to help me:( they are all idly waiting in lions arch... and if i get people with me they normally suck so i have done the whole campaign till now alone:) but where there is a crowd in GW they normally appear in houndredsXD i am looking forward to GW 2 though:) and by the time it is up i am probably maxed out in everything>:P so  be to GW for getting me away from wow:) i couldn't have done it without you

and by the time GW died out then wow would probably already have been forgotten throughout the world... GW is great, Wow is porn or atleast almost so i dunno about you but i will play gw ATLEAST until GW 2 comes out and if someone compares GW to wow EVER  you will meet the consequences

so WoW people out there one last thing... you lost your value in life when you began to play it, regain it through playing GW cya there

Maybe you should go to mididons like 'unwalking waters'and try to find a group for nm.....or most of the prophercie quests. There is almost noone in nm to group up with :S

That cannot be used as proof that the game is dying. This phenomenon occurs in every MMO...the community in general ages. What that means is that over time players finish all quests and missions in the "lower level" areas and move on to "higher level" content. It won't be noticeable at first, as people will tend to make alts etc. which will keep those areas thriving, but over time people will stop making alts and progress their current characters via titles etc. Guild Wars has reached the stage where the community in general is "aged."

Well even in high level content prhoph, factions aren't many people anymore. Only the last 2-3 missions have some population in Chrystaline Desert and South Shiverpeeks there aren't almost any people, same is for Factions (Unwalking Waters is one of the end missions). Only NF has more but most are playing HM.

I see it also when prorunning with my Assa There aren't many people that need truns from Beacon till Drok or South Shiverpeak runs/tours. Even for the runs to rata sum are almost no people...

Once again, this is to be expected.

I still actively play Guild Wars, but I haven't set foot in the last few missions of Prophecies, Factions or Nightfall for ages. Does that mean I don't play the game anymore? No. That simply means I've moved on to other content. I'd be willing to bet that a very large portion of the community has done exactly the same.

i don't think its dead. i just started a few weeks ago, and finished prophecies this weekend.

i'm from germany, but since i play after midnight, i often join the american district. and i always found a pug easily in prophecies.

sure, its not as alive as wow, but crowded enough. startet factions now, and still no problem finding pug

at last, my 2 cents about the game: i love it. lvl cap 20 is very nice for casual players, but skill system is deep enough for hc players. even other things like fast-travel and the not-so-deep item system are bringin much fun into the game. i was sceptical about the non-persistent world, but it works great.

Not quite yet. It has lost its magic over the years, but considering GW 2 was officially announced, that was bound to happen anyway.

Anyway, It's not dead, you can still find people on any of those missions you just can't H/H for whatever reason, except for the Elite Missions, there's never anyone there, other than rare guild groups who might not take you.

Observer mode has killed the little bit of originality players had in organized PvP play, and you don't see anything new being rolled there, but that hasn't kept people away from PvP, so, despite the meta builds, you can still actively take part of it even if you're not into a PvP-oriented guild .

Guild Wars has at least a couple more years to go, before it can be kept as a occasional boredom-killer game, like Diablo 2 is nowadays.

    Obnoxious crap game flamer.

i never had any trouble with groups... all you need to do is ask on different channels... i am always directed to the least populated areas and there i cant find groups but i can just change to europe - english - 1 and people are normally crowded there. just try changing districts

I'd say that the major bane of PvP nowadays is Izzy. A little note: example taken from HA, but the same is true for TA and GvG as well. The reason why the same shit is being ran by everyone (at the moment it's Teaseway) is because it's imbalanced, add to that that it's preferably played with 6 players and 2 heroes, because heroes do the job better(!), and that it requires absolutely no skill at all to play, and you got a meta build. There's simply no reason to run an inferior, harder to play team requiring 8 players when you can just go Teaseway. The same has been true for pretty much every meta team; their superiority and easiness discourages playing any other team. Although it's a problem of increasing extent as the latest skill updates completely fucked up the balance in the game.

Balancing a game like Guild Wars is extremely tough, so I can understand them finding it problematic. What they could do is simply revert PvP back to the way it was at Guild Wars' inception and we'd mostly be happy.

They gave up on trying to balance things when they started adding a bunch of pve only skills.  They still try to balance pvp, but don't care if pve is balanced at all.

Problem is that the game has never really been balanced. And what they've been doing is to try to update skills that've before been complete shit and make them somewhat decent, often resulting only in making them minorly better too good. Although Primal Rage is a damn hawt skill...

PvE balance is kind of meh since whereas in PvP you will be put against people on equal grounds, whereas you in PvE won't. Balancing PvE is kind of strange, because what is balance? That you are equal to the mobs? That all skills are equal to each other in usefulness? HM mobs are overpowered, so to compensate for that you're given overpowered PvE-only skills...

Guild Wars has indeed never been completely balanced, but it was damn close back in the day.

The problem remains that then 90% of the skills are worthless. And the game was, as far as I'm aware, only really balanced before Factions and Nightfall. After the release of Factions it went downhill; too many professions and too many skills.

This is why I'm glad they're changing how many skills there are in GW2

I'm just dissapointed that GW2 is so far off since it's apparetly been delayed till till 2011 at the earliest... which makes sense. I was always wondering how they would make a full on MMO so quickly after it was announced.. I was hoping but skeptical.

Anyway I love Guild Wars but I'm dissapointed with the updates lately.. books are play.. PvP was fun the alliance battles and Ft. Aspenwood (and this coming from someone who doesn't like PvP normally.. so they clearly did something right there) but I love the PvE and wish they would add to that more. The deep unfolding stories of the guild wars chapter was the biggest draw to the game for me.

Well hopefully the new content they plan on adding, starting April, will add more of a draw to the game.

  • mutatormutator Member Posts: 131

the worst drawback for me is that even tough i am lvl 20 and i got all the best stuff i can get, and most of the best skills (elemental fire) i still cant seem to fight very well... i always die anyway i try, right now i am trying to reach hall of heros and i seriously think if i just shouldnt ask my friend indebted to me to help me with it. its impossible, also if this game was without henchmen i would'nt know what to do. even tough the missions are easy its the side quest's that are hard. i never really played the game very balanced, once i reach lions arch i just take a shortcut up into eye of the north and lvl from lvl (10-13) to lvl 20 in 2-3 days. thats what i did with my elementalist.

but the pvp was kinda cool, no special drawbacks there except i cant use SUICIDAL ASSASIN commonly known as ebon vanguard assasin. but that would've been unfair, he is just too good.

You just need to take the time to read through the various skill and understand how they work together.

Let's take the classic example of the spell Phoenix. Using it when surrounded by a group of mobs is far more effective than when you're not, due to the initial damage it deals to surrounding foes.

    What "new content"

Trust me, I even just checked with Martin Kerstein of NC Soft and there is no new content apart from holiday gubbins due for GW1...  EVER

as I stated elsewhere, the april enhancements are nice but don't inspire me

but I do look forward to what else they plan to implement "every 3 or 4 months"
