Go on what ground breaking features did not make it into launch ??

Lots of mobs? Right, ground breaking... no wait every other MMO has that.

Fog ?  Are u kidding me?

Prestige classes ?  Sorry, nothing ground breaking there.

What is it about Darkfall that was supposed to be so groundbreaking ?

    1. Free for all pvp, its been done before but not recently, its ground breaking.  CHECK.

If it's been done before, it is not groundbreaking. UO, Lineage 2 ( which I'd say counts as recently )

     2. Full loot. Certainly Ground breaking. CHECK

Been done before, not groundbreaking. UO

     3. No levels, skill based instead.  In todays MMO market, this is ground breaking. CHECK.

Been done before, not groundbreaking. UO come s to mind.

     4. The ability to craft almost any item in the game. Yup, thats ground breaking. CHECK.

Saga of Ryzom, EVERYTHING IS CRAFTED. Been done before, not groundbreaking.

     5. To craft boats, steer them and destroy other players boats. Ground Breaking. CHECK.

Sorry, been done before, not groundbreaking. Here's a hint, they have pirates even..

    6. Guild towns and cities. done before, but this could very well be ground breaking. CHECK.

Done before, not groundbreaking. Star Wars Galaxies

     7. Sieging other cities.  If done well, this is ground breaking. CHECK

    Done before, not groundbreaking. Shadowbane

     8. FPS style combat in an MMO. Definitetly ground breaking. CHECK.

Done before, not groundbreaking. Hellgate: London

Keep fidling along on ur last string little trolls, its the only one u got left.

Keep trying to defend Darkfall with bullshit, it's the only thing you got left.

Learn the meaning of the word groundbreaking. If it has EVER been done before, it is NOT groundbreaking.

Thanks for playing, come back soon!

    Sorry, u got it wrong.

Right now every MMO is a wow clone, thats is because every MMO believes that WOW is the formulae form making a good MMO.

Therefore to break new ground is not about having a new feature, but have a feature that breaks from the wow mold, but being implemented in an innovative way that actually works well.

If it doesnt become part of the mold for the next generation of MMOs, its not ground breaking.

And thats why people say that Darkfall will be groundbreaking, I understand ur confusion since, as u say, u thought groundbreaking meant New.

Then it would have said new.

But its a simple mistake to make, I hope this cleared it up for u.

    -Darkstar

So by your definition, DF is not groundbreaking until most future MMOs take DF as influence when developping their features.

    Also: EvE.

The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost.

Here is the definition of groundbreaking:
    groundbreaking
    adjective

    1. being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created before; "stylistically innovative works"; "innovative members of the artistic community"; "a mind so innovational, so original" [syn: innovative]

But its a simple mistake to make, I hope this cleared it up for you.

If u look a little bit up on that same page, assuming u used dictionary.com, ull see what im talking about.

originating or pioneering a new endeavor, field of inquiry, or the like: Pasteur's groundbreaking work in bacteriology.

    Pioneering being the operative word.

Also if u follow ur own explanation u need to look up the word Innovative.

Here ill do it for u:

    something new or different introduced:

    Not neccesarily created,  just introduced.

Its really not very hard to grasp.

WoW was not ground breaking, it just borrowed heavily from EQ and bits from a few other games without many of their mistakes and put a good polish on it

DFO is not groundbreaking, it has just borrowed heavily from UO and somewhat from Daoc, improved a few things, left out a lot more and screwed up the rest

Both took their templates from one of the two main braches of previous generation MMO’s because both went into development at roughly the same time, just wow beat DFO to release by..oh about 4 years

DFO could not follow the “WoW template” because plan for it was laid out years before wow was released and while it might look groundbreaking to you it’s not to anyone who has been around for while

I need a new MMO world to call home as Tom Chilton keeps destroying them

This is true, but noone is making another EVE, or another UO.

No point pioneering if noone will go there after u, then someone has to pioneer all over again, breaking ground again so to speak.

Like the Vikings being the first ones to America.

They could easily have made the game more of a wow clone as the development went on, in fact this is one of the reasons development was halted in Norway.

Actually it wasnt the wow template at that time, it was the DAoC template that later wow copied in terms of gameplay, which ofcourse was a continuation of the EQ template.

Each step broke new ground for THAT particular design choice in an MMO, and each step had their own innovations.

Same with the UO, Shadowbane, EVE and now Darkfall path, each is based on the other but each brings something new to the table constantly pushing that Template forward.

Can't we say that about features in just about every pay to play MMO though? "Each is based off each other but each brings something new to the table...". I think we can, so by this definition Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Lord of the Rings Online,  World of Warcraft, among others should all be considered groundbreaking.

I never played Lotro, but I dont think anyone will be taking features from AoC or WAR and bring them further.

Apart from the city building in AoC most of their features where pretty much the wow template, granted a few improvements here and there, but very few things id call groundbreaking.

hmm, maybe the Public Quest system in WAR, that was groundbreaking.

The housing in AoC was a step back, im sorry but Shadowbane did it better.

Having every guild have its own instance town creates thousands of empty little instances with buildings in them.

Making the Battlekeeps almost pointless, why risk that much on a town u can loose when u can have a safe town all for urself? The benefits of the Battlekeep where negligable.

In Darkfall however EVERYTHING is ground breaking, every feature takes the template two or three steps further.

Much more town construction possibilites then in Shadowbane, many more spells schools then UO and all the rest that makes the game unique today.

Yes inspired by. DFO has some elements from UO but here's the thing. It's more of an RTSFPSMMORPG.

That isn't a copy of UO.

Inspired by and clone are two different things.

How can you judge something that hasn't even released yet? They had to redo the whole thing from scratch a while back, so I wouldn't call it a retarded term such as "Vaporware". So what if it isn't what you hoped for when it releases? QQ and quit complaining.

  • KroganKrogan Member UncommonPosts: 304

I'm a beta tester and Darkfall is and never was vaporware. The game has held every last promise that matters. OP is just a troll that wants to save face.

  • kavon425kavon425 Member UncommonPosts: 28

they turned off certain features in the BETA so they could get players to use other features that they wanted to be tested. as for everyone saying it sucks and it has crappy gameplay....either try the actual full retail release to see the true gameplay and then complain.....or shut the f*** up and get on with your life instead of wasting it b****ing about the BETA.

    Sorry bud.

    6 days to launch.

    There is no "miracle" patch.

The beta you are playing now, will be the beta you are paying for on the 25th.

    Sucks, don't it?

    *sigh*

Been proven already, many times over in many threads and straight out of Claus' mouth, the game was never redone from scratch.

Catch up with the rest of the fanbots so you don't look silly with the next excuse.

    adjective

    1. being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created before; "stylistically innovative works"; "innovative members of the artistic community"; "a mind so innovational, so original" [syn: innovative]

    -Darkstar

We had sandbox games before though. this isn't new. This isn't different. Eve also beat Darkfall to this "pioneering", UO beat it to most of the others.

This is true, but noone is making another EVE, or another UO.

No point pioneering if noone will go there after u, then someone has to pioneer all over again, breaking ground again so to speak.

Like the Vikings being the first ones to America.

    -Darkstar

You cannot re-pioneer or re-break ground.

Once it's been done, it's been done. Throw away whatever the hell you use for a dictionary and get a real one.

    Sorry bud.

    6 days to launch.

    There is no "miracle" patch.

The beta you are playing now, will be the beta you are paying for on the 25th.

    Sucks, don't it?

talk your s*** after the game launches. so you should just go back to WoW and shut the f*** up

I don't play WoW, for one. Nice of you to use the most worn out insult you could find though. Maybe next time you can call me something even more original, like "carebear" or "n00b". Maybe tell me how you're going to "pwn" me with your pixelated he-man. Pathetic.

And just because you fail to see the truth through the Dorkfail blinders you have on, doesn't make it any less so. There is no miracle patch. what you see is what you are going to get on the 25th. That's if they manage to even launch on the 25th. they can't even handle simple pre-orders right.

And since your e-peen doesn't frighten me, I think I'll retain my right to say what i want when i want within this sites' rules. Feel free to ignore me, but I do hope you'll continue to respond to me. i can use the good laughs.
