You have to be a retard if that BS happens to you.

    Welcome to 2009.

However we do believe that content of all sorts in many ways is better on PC than it is on console. For example, the best version of both Lost Planet games was PC. The best version of Devil May Cry is the PC version. More content, better performance. Street Fighter IV will be an interesting one. The arcade version is effectively a PC. That is the epitome of what the game was meant to be and we've obviously made considerable enhancements for the console release versus the original arcade release. I think you'll see a few extra bells and whistles on the PC version when that comes a little later this year too. That could become the definitive version as well.

Most games these days have a DVD version available. No need to insert another DVD unless it is massive, and in some cases there are double sided DVD's, and even there is double layer DVD's.
Touche, but I still occasionally run into games that are on multiple CDs. A couple years back I purchased the Dawn of War Gold edition and it had about four DVDs in it. In fact, any bundle that includes the original game plus expansions is going to have multiple DVDs.
Expansions. Plural. If there was an XBox game as big as say, Dawn of war Gold, you would have to enter multiple CD's to get the benefiet of them all, and they'd leave some of the game files on the HD of some sort.

    6) After the last CD has installed, I'm then asked to insert Disk 1 and am asked if I want to install Gamespy Arcade, Xfire, Yahoo toolbar, or any other crapware that the developer is getting a gratuity check from.

See above, however you can just click no, XFire though is a good choice of software. And so is Gamespy arcade if you prefer that rather than the basic server browsers.

The point being that I shouldn't have to decline this shit. If I want it, I'll just download it and install it myself. K?
They pay the developers to include their software with the game, thus the devs get money to pay their workers to work on the game and then some.
    8) The game loads to the title menu at a whopping 4 frames per second.

Read the minimum requirements before buying,
And you've never bought a game that didn't run correctly even though you had the recommended system specs? How long have you been playing PC games? Supreme Commander anyone? Crysis? I understand the Empire Total War has a bad case of the crashes as well. Sure, these things get patched... eventually, but I've never had a console game crash. Console games either run, or they don't run.
Never bought Supreme Commander. Crysis recommended settings I assume means you can play the game, just. Empire Total War I am able to run on medium, crashes happen because it's a badly developed game, Empire anyway.
    9) I then spend the next two hours in the graphics options adjusting resolution, texture detail, model detail, particle effects, anti-aliasing settings, and various other cryptic shit until I have about 24 frames per second, at which point the game looks less like the screen shots on the box and more like Quake 2.

Again, see above. 2 hours though is a long time and you are certainly exaggerating a little bit.
Duh! Congratulations, you've learned to spot sarcasm.
    10) Back at the title menu now, I start up the game and get told that I need to patch to the latest version and the game dumps me to the desktop and starts the updater that spends the next three hours downloading shit.

    Patches as good.
And yet, I've never had to wait an entire afternoon to get a patch for an XBox game....
I assume the game had no problems that were bad then, congratulations. With games like WoW or AoC new content is released and fixes are issued, the main space user is the new content, new content is always good. COD:WaW patches had included some maps if I'm not mistaken.

The Steam version foregoes the first 7steps and doesn't allow  you to play your games offline.

You can play single player offline in *offline mode*.
I used to have no problem, but lately I've been unable to run Steam games with my wireless turned off. Then again, it may just be that I'm running from a different machine... <shrugs>

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against consoles. I just never bought any of the newer ones as their will be a new one every so many years. You fork out 700 bucks for a ps3 and in a few years time it will be defunct. Fork out 700 dollars for an awesome gfx card and you will be able to play many games for the years after, just not the newest ones of high settings. And there will always be games made for the PC, whereas after a few years of the ps3 or xbox being old, games will cease to be made...

PC's can be used for many many things, home entertainment, file sharing, internet browsing, gaming and can run multiple OS's. With a ps3 or xbox you got gaming, home entertainment, and maybe browsing. And can really only run one OS, unless you want to risk the chance of getting banned for a modified system.

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.  The Playstation 2 was released in 2000. The Playstation 3 was released in 2006. Your video card really isn't going to last that long and still play the newest games. There will always be games made for the PC? Thats adding spin. There are games made for NEW PC's, not old PC's. The computer your bought 6 ~ 7 years ago is not going to run the games of today.

The thing is, nearly all the things you mentioned you can do on a PC, you can do on a PC you can pick up for free at the junkyard.

I spend 1000$ on a gaming PC a few months ago, and the only thing I currently use it for is internet browsing and chat as most of my gaming is done on my consoles. The quality of PC games have seriously gone down the drain as most developers now would rather develop for consoles than PC.

I bought my 6600GT when it was released (2004). I still have it in good working condition to this day and I can play COD4, and COD:WaW. Those are the games of today, though COD4 was released fall of 2007.

The PC being Personal Computer, not my computer, THE PC. The computer I bought 6 - 7 years ago can play COD4 and WaW and WoW, I have not tested it on newer games, as I have a new and better computer.

I believe the quality of games in general has gone down, I am not too happy with many released games 2007 - 2009 so far, WaW was crap, AoC had a terrible launch but seems to be recovering, the only game I really enjoyed was WoTLK, the others I only play casually, I am however looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins which is to be released this year some time. Empire: Total War is a good game to play as well.

One huge issue when moving to consoles is disk size.

    People will have to:

    A.  Completely fill  up their hard drives, or

    B. Switch disks while they play, and

    C. Live in a very small MMO world.

  • NanachubNanachub Member Posts: 63

Also with programs like for e.g. steam .. once its installed..... its one click all the way!!!! now... thats fast.

    Also... its always upto date.

Lastly... I want to play games like F.E.A.R. 2 and not on a control pad. Its just weird and slow :)... street fighter 2 yes...

    According to Metacritic, Lost planet

    PC: 66

    Xbox360: 79

    Random comment from reviewer:

"Lost Planet is a great game, but the PC translation suffers quite a bit due to some conversion issues and strange production choices. If you have an Xbox 360, then definitely pick up that version over the PC port."

It' also received enormous complaints about performance issues

It's very doubtful the PC version of street fighter will be the defenitive version. Street Fighter (and fighting games in general) are all about multiplayer. There will be less people playing online on the PC version, and when was the last time you played side to side on a PC game? and playing a fighting game with a keyboard...well the less said about that, the better.

For a company that is apparently so supportive of PC gaming, they really don't seem to care much. Street fighter 4 for the PC has been delayed and there still is no word about Resident Evil 5 for the PC. Megaman 9 and Dead Rising were never released for the PC either, despite the fact Megaman is Capcom's 2nd biggest franchise.

install = editing of files = mods = more fun

simple as that...oh and the controls.  Dont care how awesome a controller is  a mouse will always be more accurate and a keyboard will always be better in games with more than 8 spells/abilities.

true you can use a keyboard on many consoles and i am sure you can use a mouse on many too but the bottom line is currently (should change in the future...i think) they are supported by the software itself.  You still have to sift thru those menu's on the PS3 if you use a keyboard and you still have to use the streamlined for gamepad menu's.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

The download version of the PC game experience is different only in that you spend 6 to 10 hours downloading the game and you don't have to swap CDs.

aw... Anyway I prefer my pc, I can do a lot more stuff with it. I can edit the films i do with my friends, I can upload them to youtube, I can chat with friends, I can browse internet (Dont forget you are posting in this forum using your pc) I can ear music and wacht films, well, you can do this (last things too with your console).

The problem here is, you are comparing a gaming console, a device designed to run games with a Personal Computer, a device designed to do a lot of diferent task, yeah, a game runs better in a console, because you are comparing 2 diferent devices, they are similar, but not the same.

And what do you do if you are playing a console game and you want to post an screenshot from your playtime in a forum?

It's so easy on a pc is even ridiculous, try with a console.

Why call a thread "PC vs Consoles : The Truth" & then present an utterly spurious argument that proves nothing.

If the OP had attempted to compare 'like with like' then he might have had a valid point but the two formats are radically different, especially when it come to MMORPGs.

PC MMORPG games are traditionally mouse/keyboard based although some people use controllers. The use of text input is taken for granted since people are using the keyboard anyway. Controlling selections & drop down menus is easy, with most people just using the mouse rather than the keyboard.

Console MMORPG games are traditionally controller based although some people have keyboards. The use of text input is limited as it is tedious to switch from controller to keyboard & many do not own one anyway. Similarly, a mouse is often easier to use for selections or controlling dropdown menus etc, but not everyone will have one so this which affects design.

The target audiences are also different, with Console games being much more about dynamic controller usage & jumping around. The list goes on & on, but most of it is fairly obvious. Some games implemented on both formats are pretty similar but things work best when the game is tailored to the hardware setup used

The 'PC vs Console' argument is less like 'HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray' & more like 'Real Ale vs Lager'.

menus running at 4 fps and editing cfg files for 2 hours are not the norm for PCs.

If you're going to make critisisms like that for the pc, then you should put down the for the console

    1) put in the game, but the console breaks, have to wait a month until I get my RMA back

    2) disk is scratched, will have to mod my console so I can play a burned version

of course these are ridiculous complaints, and hold about as much validity as your 4 fps and 2 hour cfg editing complaint

Since a lot of you seem to be missing the point completely, let me take a moment to clarify my stance without the use of satire (which seems to be lost on many of you anyway).

I play both console and PC games. I play different kinds of games on each platform. Fighting games, racing games, and sports games on the consoles. Real Time and turn based strategy games on the PC. Originally I got into PC gaming for flight sims and strategy games. The time of flight sims came and went and now there's just strategy games. Oddly, there's recently been a shift in what genres go on what platform. For instance, there have been some really good FPS games on consoles and some of the best strategy games I've played recently appeared on the Nintendo DS (of all places). After playing Battle for Middle Earth 2, C&C3 and Endwar on the XBox 360, I'm pretty sure that it won't be long before developers find a good interface for RTS games.

Then there's the second change that's happened in my life. I bought an Acer Aspire One. Rest assured, I did not intend to buy a netbook. I had purchased an MSI GX630 from Newwegg to replace my desktop and give me a computer that I could take with me from time to time. Five days after I got the GX630, it died and I had to send it back for a replacement. Yeah, my desktop still worked, but I really still wanted a computer that I could shuttle to work with and use during the various downtimes that occur throughout my day. The Acer was only $300 so I figured what the hell.

To my shock and horror, the Aspire one did everything I needed except games. Well.... Actually.... The Aspire One does play games, but only older games like those available at www.gog.com. For a machine that was only supposed to be able to browse web pages, I found that it handled most of the non-gaming tasks that I use a computer for quite nicely. In fact, I've determined that most people use their computers for four non-gaming functions:

    1) Downloading + listening to music

    2) Downloading + watching movies (pr0n)

    3) Web browsing

    4) Basic office work (word processing, spread sheets and power point)

Aside from that, I foudn that the Aspire One can also run GIMP or Photoshop and I've even edited video with Windows Movie maker on it! In short, the Aspire one has made me reconsider my computer needs.

The fact that games like Age of Empires: Mythologies and Disgaea exist on portable systems throws the whole "PC games have more depth" bullshit out the window. Seriously, why keep dumping $200+ a year into a machine that only has a handful of exclusive titles available when you can just by an Eee Top and an XBox 360 for way less and have all the functionality that you need?

P.S. I've been playing PC games since the original Master of Orion came out. Modern PC games aren't quite as big a pain in the ass as DOS games were, but there's still way more bullshit than is reasonable for entertainment software.

  • Zayne3145Zayne3145 Member Posts: 1,448

OP it sounds like you've had some bad experiences with the PC platform which is clouding your judgement. Sure consoles have a better 'pick up and play' quality, but PC's have an intimacy, immersiveness and interaction that you just do not get with other platforms. The mouse + keyboard combination is yet to be beaten and having the screen right in front of your face really makes you feel like you're 'in' the game.

The future of console gaming is already unfolding.

March 16 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Corp. is under pressure from video-game publishers to cut the price of the PlayStation 3 console or risk seeing more development funds shift to Nintendo Co.’s Wii.

Too many snobs on either side of this debate; too many generalisations and silly prejudices.

Both platforms have their advantages and disadvantages; if you refuse to play either one because of your preconceptions, you're missing out on a lot of enjoyment.

I can dang sure tell you who the whiney little girl is.

Most of my PC game erperiances have gone from install to playing without any problems.

You've been particular in your arguements and choose only negative sides to portray with PC's.  Its not the number of games its the quality.  Control configurations also happen to be a large part of the console pc war along with hardware.

You've choosen to ignore vital parts in an attempt to further your arguement which simply brings to bear the question WHY?  Why bother waging war, give it up, let it go and carry on.  Your not going to win.  Read my little thing on the side to know why.

I have an Xbox 360, but i rarely play it.  Twitch games can be fun for me, but only in very small doses.  Twitch games stress me out and therefore become very irritating if played more than an hour a month.  This is why I used to like PC games so much, they focused more on the avatars strengths and abilities, not yours or your interenet connection.

This is why I'm so pissed at the current trend in PC games and MMOs as they become more and more twitch based, console like.  I feel like my play style is being phased out and it pisses the hell out of me as this has always been my favorite form of enteretainment.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

Have a $1500 pc, 360, ps3, and wii. Can say that my 360/ps3 has about the same exact graphics as my sapphire 4870 1gig, maybe even better, HDMI to my Sony Bravia W4100 40" is so nice looking.

I love my pc but honestly I am not using it for gaming atm, it's my MMO machine and unfortunately there are no good mmos out. I just canceled my wow subscription and now am really not using it for anything. I love this computer though and feel justified in the amount of cash I spent on it, but most games are being created for console only. RE5 just came out and if you don't have a console you don't get to play, that was a must have game for me, got it on 360.

What is the last great game that came out exclusively for pc? Crysis? Killzone 2 just dropped on PS3, I have so many console games I have about 5 unbeaten games.

Not saying consoles own pcs, but more games are being developed for consoles. Mmos aside, and let's face it there isn't any fantasic mmos out right now. Atleast not to me.

It was said earlier though, real games have both (or atleast want both if they can't afford it.)

O and take your condescending attitude and shove it.

When a piscating wizard floods every thread I can understand why people leave.
