well as far as I see it theres two sides, DF fanboys vs rest. As for the game itself although how crappy it may be if the que is 9hours surely someone must find it amusing. PvP isnt for everyone, crappy grapics and engine doesnt help, it looks outdated but hey if the fanboys like it...

still I dont see why so many of them try to make a point here, all leavers of all MMO's trashtalk their prev games and I bet since this game is so niched its even more. Its not for everyone, its a game created for mongoloids.. err hardcore retards uhm... expresonists? So long as they like it fine, still I hate their propaganda and I hate even more the creators of this game, they seriously should be sued for a lot of things, boring me for once.. no but making false promises in commercials, trashtalking other competetive coperations. Dont doubt twice this game would never fit me, cause I think its outdated and so niched it can only be enjoyed by sadists/masochists, that being said I havnt played the game nor spoken 1on1 with someone who has, I have seen videos red comments, followed proccess of the game for years, but.

The players who do enjoy this game (who arent just spreading propaganda) I wish you a fuckin good time, the game is nothing short of unique.

Il still trashtalk this game to end of time though, why.. cause I think it doesnt belong in the 21th century

That's funny, I can't seem to put it down, and the now 160+ guild members in game seem to all agree.

Had a blast being involved with a 300+ battle the other night, that alone was worth $50.

Its funny when people bash games that they have never played. Its even funnier when they prove they have no life by making an alt account just to post a hate thread.

If you like Darkfall, go play it. You probably think Runescape was a legitimate game, too. Before Runescape, you likely played UO, if you're old enough. These games are unique in that they cater to a specific subset of the MMO community. If Darkfall was meant to be a game for the masses, it would look like WoW, or WAR. It clearly doesn't, ergo it is clearly not. The feature list (which is not to be confused with a clear description of the game) is geared towards those who enjoy what is basically a persistent, online version of Mount & Blade, an equally lackluster release.
But, you know what? It's a good thing that there are fanboys that latch on to a vague hope that a release might be everything the MMO community is looking for. These companies are poking at the uteral wall of game design, trying to find the birth canal of innovation & spawn the next greatest MMO the world has ever seen. Sure, we might end up with a couple of still births. We might end up with a few terminations.
...I'm gonna stop with the birth metaphors now.
My point is that in the end, the MMO genre which we know and love is strengthened by these companies' experimentation. And these companies need money to experiment - this is where the fanboys come in. I'm sure you've heard of experimental titles like The Graveyard and Endless Forest. While these titles may not be your cup of tea, they're making interesting strides down the paths of story telling and social interaction.
So, leave the fanboys be. Let little jimmy sink his birthday money into a copy of Darkfall. It's either that, or he gives his money to Blizzard.
Lastly, @ the people who are whining because they're getting warnings from the mods, try being constructive in your criticisms of Tasos & Darkfall. At the very least, try saying why you believe Tasos is lying. It's all in the Rules of Conduct, handily linked at the top of every post you make.

    ^This guy's got it figured out.^

I tried Darkfall and hated it....and yes I'm one of those UO players that have been in a constant search for a replacement for the last 6+ years. I think DF did a lot of things wrong and there is definately a converstaion to be had about that. BUT, bashing character of the devs and people who enjoy the game is counter productive for the movement.

We haven't had a skill based, full loot, fantasy sandbox since UO and we now have 2 releasing in the same year. The big boys (EA, Blizzard, etc.) are watching and if there is a big enough market for that type of game....they will sink the resources into it. While DF (and even Mortal Online) might not be exactly the kind of game we are looking for.....we have to support these guys that are going out and taking chances. At the very least....we have to NOT be vested in the destruction and failure of their innovation.

Civil debate on what features work...and what features don't work is great. Character assasination is not okay.

Looks like that dream of a stick figure mmo isnt lost! All I need to do is add the secret ingredient...

    FULL LOOT

    i WILL BE RICH!

  • RajCajRajCaj Member UncommonPosts: 704

Full loot means a lot more than just making it a death penalty for a mmo.

If your going to offer full loot, you have to make sure it doesn't break the players back when they lose all their gear and consumables. This means the gear has to be cheap and common place.

If the gear is cheap and common place...this means that your going to have to balance the game around skills....not around gear. Something HUGELY unpopular among most recent popular MMORPGs.

It takes a lot to lure prospective customers away from the super uber armor/weapon rat race that all the new games have based their entire content around. Full Loot seems completely reasonable for just about anyone that played UO........mention that to a MMO gamer that started on WOW and watch them have a heart attack. It's a tough and risky business putting Full Loot into a game and making it work.

You have just described why Full Loot PVP games are the fail and will always be.

If loot is common place and doesn't break the bank then why the hell even have loot to "full loot"? It is worthless by your own admission so it serves no purpose. It is nothing but a catch phrase like oh say Sandbox or Hardcore.

They all mean nothing and are only used by people that want to flex their e-peens by saying how "hardcore" they are since they play a "full loot" "sandbox" game.

You want hardcore, there is only one answer perma-death and if you are a murderer then you become hunted by every NPC and PC in the game and are either tried and locked away or executed. Effectively the same as killing your toon. You only get one toon per game copy also.

There that is hardcore, how many of you delusional sycophantic failbois want to play that game? Show us just how hardcore you are. In fact the first time you get beat in DarkFail delete your account to prove your "hardcoreness"

Nice try RajCaj but you are a failboi trying to couch your comments to make them appear neutral. I have been around too long and played / followed too many games to not see thru your BS.

Oh as an aside, Blizz is not watching nor is SoE, EA, whoever to see what happens with this genre of mmorpg. They have done the research and know the answers about full loot pvp games. Too bad you don't.

  • HorkathaneHorkathane Member Posts: 380

Might as well have an ear drop like in Diablo.

  • RajCajRajCaj Member UncommonPosts: 704

Its not that black and white Phrank.....I could give a crap about "hardcore".  Full loot in a MMO where items are common and relatively cheep to get isn't all that hard core.  Full loot in WOW would be.  So please don't group me in the little box you like to put Sandbox MMO gamers in.

Just because the items are "common" doesn't mean they are worthless.  It is a penalty for dieing......more servere than having to run 3-5 mintues back to your body like in WOW, and a lot less servere than "perma death" as you mentioned.  Its a happy medium.

If you died in UO, everything you've worked for in the last 6 months wasn't lost.  Your character could still function without resorting to ebay.  You might have had to spend a few more hours grinding it in a dungeon to recoup the cash equivalent you lost when you died....but it didn't break your back.  In a PvP game (where most people enjoy PvPing more than PvEing) this was a servere enough penalty to make the PvPing experience "mean" a little more.  It motivates people a little more to be ontop their game than just snapping your fingers and saying "shucks...I gotta run back to my body now".

    Common doesn't = worthless

A good set of armor or weapon gives you an edge....it doesn't determine the outcome.  Balance is achieved through a players ability to play their character, not how many hours they spent in a dungeon raid.   I can't say that for any popular MMO thats come out in the last 5 years.....and there has been alot!

And the reason full loot hasn't been in any recent MMO (Darkfall excluded) is because MMO devs have created a content concept that is entirely based around LOOT.  You can't create a game where it takes people months to get gear they need to finish a dungeon if they can loose it when they die.  People's characters would be rendered useless the first time they died.  Items have been a cheap and easy way to please the masses.....they look pretty, shine nice in the sun and boost your stats to a level that lets you "pwn" everyone else that doesn't have the gear you have.  You want to talk about "epeen".......I suggest you look at some of the people in the top raiding guilds for PvE games.

Truly, the idea that is Darkfall has become the standard by which I'll be choosing my next MMO; the combat is fun, the freedom from quest spamming is liberating, and the constant danger keeps you ever wary. If Aventurine manages to somehow miraculously improve the quality of their servers and customer service, the silence from the naysayers should prove deafening.

If they are an indie company then they should have charged indie prices.  Blizzard and SoE can charge grown up prices and DF should have been F2P or about $15.  It was a slap in the face to all of us that felt like throwing up during the first five minutes of playing.

No I was not stupid enough to buy it but one of my family members was even after I told them not to waste 50 bucks on something that is barely above shareware quality.
I'am not quite sure what exactly they were doing for 8 years.. or even 6 years.. whichever way you want to look at it.. but it sure as hell was not developing this game because in reality it should not have taken more than 2 years to build what amounts to nothing more than a totally empty, featureless, contentless video game. Darkfall is nothing more than a poory done combat simulator system with bad animations, outdated graphics, terrible sound/music , terrible CS, and barebones functionality at best. Couple this with a group of people who are seemingly some of the most incompetent and common sense challenged to ever launch a MMO and you have Failure within a few short months, if not weeks.
People are already saying they are bored and cancelling after only 3 weeks of play which shouldn't surprise at all becaus that's the obvious thing that would happen when there's nothing else to do in a game other than to PK and "full loot".
You can go play www.QuakeLive.com for free and get more enjoyment PK'ing people then playing.
    Queue on!

Perhaps, but it is also the most fun MMO I have ever played.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it...

And so the loyal soldiers remain so, even after the battle was lost, and the "trolls" were right all along. But Im sure somewhere theres a man saying to himself. "Ball&Cup? WOW this is a blast, I love trying to get the ball into the cup, its so much fun!"

The troll said the game did not exist and it did.  Hell the blind ass fanbois are miles ahead just on that fact alone.

The game is fun.  i have my  complaints and hope they get worked out and if they do not after a period of time i will leave.

You should give the skeptics or fanboi's who realized that DF was releasing a disaster credit, because they used logic to come to their conclusion, unlike the haters who used blind faith

I have good taste that is all it boils down to.
