It's boring. No skills involved to play. At least in WoW you actually had to press some buttons for abilities and what not (and WoW sucks bad enough). I'm sorry but clicking on something and selecting 1500 range, then hitting the attack button isn't very fun for me.
Yeah....my buddy was playing WoW and going on about all these 25 man raids and epic loot. I downloaded the trial and it was shit. I mean, whats the point, i was in some crappy Abbey somewhere killing "defias", took like totally no effort at all, totally lame dude, i mean like, my buddy totally raves about this game man! And im like "WTF! this blows", totally fricking boring man, stabbing defias over and over.
And this other time, my buddy was totally like "you so have to read "the old man and the sea"". So i went to Borders, i picked it up, but the cover was totally lame man. Like a book about fishing or shit? Whatever! So yeah, literature sucks.
And this other other time, my bro's on X-Box were like come play "Halo", so i like totally checked it out man, i went out and got some action figures and totally played in my room with em, but like my buddies were raving about it so i like totally couldnt get what was so special. First Person Shooters? First Person Lamers more like lulz.
Then i heard about the "internet" and like, i could totally make friends there, so i hooked my phone into my ass and imploded WITH MY OWN FUCKING STUPIDITY.
Too bad its nothing more than crying about the control scheme of Eve now. Seriously, did all the noobs and trolls in this thread do an Eve whine search and see what's been cried about the most over the last 6 years and just decide to parrot it all here ?
Point and click combat just works in this game. I have played many such as Lineage where it's a point and click fantasy game and those suck to control but I would meber ever say the game sucks because of it. In Eve the point and click just doesn't feel like that at all and once you get used to it you do realize that it is indeed the only way to fly. I can safe guarantee right now that if CCP implemented a choice of first person real time flight like X or the classic point and click controls a bunch of people would switch over to first person and promptly switch back after getting blind sided all the time in combat because you cannot see the whole battlefield which you need to do.
As far as the cockpit and crew goes. Who really cares ? You are just arguing something that doesn't matter. You are in a pod. not the cockpit of the ship. Though some ships graphics look like they have traditional cockpits it's just that, looks. You are in a pod and your brain controls the ship, you see outside the ship via a camera that you control.
I guess people would rather cry "wahhhhh i want my control system that I am used to like WoW, WAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!"
Are any of you people capable of learning or is it all bitch, moan and cry ? I guess it's just easier to be a 2 week n00b who trialed Eve and be an expert on the game and those that have been around since beta KNOW NOTHING.
Bah, im done with this thread now. Just a waste of time to try and talk and explain things reasonably with a bunch of closed minded people who really don't want to change their mind at all and hjust want to aargue because that seems all they are capable of.
I do thank some of you though. I was looking for something to write a new player guide around and I actually have what I think would be a good idea now.

Last post in thread for me simply because this made me laugh too good.
Thank you sir. You have summarized this thread and mentality perfectly.
The rest of this post is now aimed at everyone in general and not the poster quoted.
I know I may piss on WoW but I will admit I played it for 3 years doing all the raiding and pvp and it is a good game but it is a game that get's old and more repetitive than Eve ever could. How many hours were spent in Molten Core staring at the lava and walls while waiting for some other asshole to catch up. Then once the raid started it was just scripted fight after fight, group 1 stand here, group 2 stand there, healers do this and dispellers keep the shit off the tanks, blah blah blah and Eve is boring ? Right. I tried to do the High Warlord grind but once i just hit rank 10 Champion the tedium and boredom and AGONY set it. Had to sit and play 10 hours a day to make ranks after that, yeah fuck that. Oh and let's not forget the Arathi Basin Rep grind which you had to do back then because in WoW gear actually is everything. That AB rep grind was a month of AB all day every day. Ok, that is the high end game play and these people are coming in here bitching about low end new player content well let's just talk about the Barrens, did you really enjoy running all over that zone for 10 levels on foot ? Talk about more repetitive boredom. And those amazing pve quests like go kill x number of harpies, return, ok now go kill x number of these other harpies that you probably had to kill last time too, oh good now go back and kill the named harpy and rekill oll those you just killed the last 2 times you ran over here. Nope no repetitive killing of the same shit running past the same scenery in the king of PvE games, WoW.
Please don't ever come around here and tell me that Eve (being a PvP game) has terrible PvE when in fact WoW (being the best PvE ever) has marginally more exciting PvE.
I guess people would rather cry "wahhhhh i want my control system that I am used to like WoW, WAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" Well Bloody Said Sir!
Welcome to the world of ends, where each end is an ass.
Seriously though, if you do want to go "neeeeeworrr-fwooosh-dakkadakkadakka" dont bloody complain about eves abstracted control system, but go play a game that has that in it. Did you ever see Adama at the helm of Battlestar Galactica? hell no, he was in CIC *telling* the helmsman where to point the ship.
Adama =EVE pod pilot (in a way), Starbuck=*insert space/flight game here*.
Some want to play Adama, others Starbuck.
Its like me complaining that my flying mount in WoW( Time Lost Proto Drake btw) doesnt have Warp To, Orbit or Align options.
This is not an eve-fanboi rant.
This is the rant of someone who genuinely despairs for the average IQ of humanity.

Perfectly valid agrument... assuming Eve and WoW are the only two games ever made. Every time WoW is mentioned in the Eve forums, it is by an Eve player. PvE in Eve is terrible, and it has nothing to do with WoW.

As usual you ignore the point. It was made as a comparison. Pick any other game then if you don't like WoW as a comparison.
Why pick WoW ? Because it's the game everyone who comes in here to whine about something in Eve being too hard they always say "but WoW has a billion subscribers so Eve should be like WoW"
You are right that Eves boring PvE has nothing to do with WoW but when you actually sit down and compare the 2 WoWs PvE is just as boring and repetitive in the end and WoW is considered to be the best PvE game around. What you are truly missing is the fact that any PvE in any MMO gets boring, old and repetitive, doesn't matter what game it is. That is why Eve focus's on PvP where the gameplay doesn't get boring and repetitve nearly as quickly, while at the same time Eves PvE is really not any different from other games PvE.

I understand what you are trying to say, but Eve has both fighters and large capital ships. So you control a capital ship Adama style, and that does make sense.... but why do you also control a one person fighter ship Adama style instead of Starbuck style? You're right though, If people don't like the control style in Eve they can and should just play something else.... still, no reason for them not to post their opinions of the control scheme on this forum.
Maybe some other potential players will read that it is point and click and not expect it to be otherwise... then you guys won't have to see the same questions and comments repeated over and over as often. I mean, I probably wouldn't have downloaded the trial if I had read people's complaints here first. Especially when you consider that my complaints are all on the greatest hits list when it comes to criticism of the game. It's unfortunate that 10 or 12 vocal fans of the game here feel they need to discredit any negative opinions posted about the game. Even with the games I like, I can admit to the parts that are less than ideal.
There are no fighter sized player ships in EVE. Frigates are the smallest we get to use, anything smaller is a Drone.
General consensus is that a Frigate is on average about the size of a 747. That would put them at about the size of the 'Serenity'. And yes, there was that cool scene in the movie where they were ducking and weaving, but it wasn't exactly a dogfight so much as a blob fly-by.
And for Star Wars fans, the Falcon was much smaller than an EVE Frigate. I'll add some stuff here:
I do hereby decree that the this OP's post = FAIL. But seriously. Its obvious based on the above statments that you never traveled out into Low-sec/No-sec regardless whether you wanted to try the pvp aspects of this game, nor were you able to try out any of the higher level missions (which is no fault of your own). It is also quite obvious that you played this game all but solo throughout your 7 day trial, as playing it with anyone else who has played any longer than you would have informed you of many of the things the other posters here have stated. I apologize if this comes off rather rude sounding, but seriously man....you have to actually EXPLORE the game before I feel you should be allowed to give an honest post about it. I personally recommend you re-install - get another trial key (use a different email address to do so) and perhaps ask a few people on MMORPG for some help in exploring some of what EVE has to offer you. Its not a game where things happen in the snap of your fingers, ill give it that, but it does offer a VERY immersive experience if you take the time to learn about it. You may even find some folks on here or in game willing to take you along for the ride on a few Level 2 or Level 3 missions. Then you'll see that its not so "easy". Hell - I'll even be kind and extend my own personal hand to you. Re-install and then send me an EVEmail` (character name: Eizmund Drohner) - provided you can speak educated in game and not give EVE an instant bias when your do come back (should you come back) I will be happy to give you some helpful advice and try my best to show you some of the other aspects that EVE has to offer.
If the OP fails for voicing his/her opinion, then you and everyone else...ever.....really, fail too. He said he doesn't like the game and gave reasons. A rational response would have been "You didn't like the game, but I do and I respect your opinion ." or even simply "To each his own.". Although I commend you on offering to help them understand the game and it's good points.
The OP didn't really offer any reason for his opinion. He just made a bunch of baseless statements which are terribly biased and uninformed. His opinion judging from his post is based off nothing more than doing the tutorial missions at best and he thinks that is the whole game.
Or there might be another reason the OP made this thread. That would be that he really doesn't give a rats ass either way and is just trolling.
Hmm, this is a tough one here but I am gonna go out on a limb here and judge based off the OPs 1 post count that he is indeed a troll and nothing more. I had hopes for this thread being amusing but too many people have now taken the OP seriously and gave him what he wanted.
That is totally untrue. The guy posted exactly what is was that he found boring about the game. Even though his main complaint is PvE, which almost all Eve players will agree is boring, you guys still reply by slinging personal attacks at him.
Isn't it possible that maybe he is just telling the truth about his experience in the game? Maybe he isn't an idiot or a liar.... maybe he just has different taste in gameplay than you. I know it's hard to agree with something negative about the game you love... but how many people have to try the game and say the PvE is terrible before you see a grain of truth in it.
People keep saying that it's just like PvE in every other MMO and that just isn't the case. Lots of games have PvE quests that don't consist of click, undock, set destination, auto-pilot, dock. I think courier quests in safe space that you auto-pilot to are pretty pointless.... adding insult to injury, the quest rewards are terrible. Even the combat quests aren't much better. Undock, warp to encounter, kill a few ships that don't even dent your shields, warp back, turn it in and get your pittance. After you run about 10 missions, they start repeating... word for word. If he is unhappy with the PvE after just doing the tutorial, he is going to hate it even more when he starts doing regular agent missions.
It's funny to see how many of you fly off the handle and reply with personal insults whenever someone has anything negative to say about Eve. Of course, you guys also like to talk about how great the community is. You couldn't tell that from reading these forums, that's for sure. The helpful posts are generally far outnumbered by the insults and attacks. Even though the complaints about this game seem to be pretty consistent, you guys act like it's the first time anyone ever said the PvE was bad, or that travel time was too long and boring, or complain about real-time skill training.. or god forbid, mention in-game ISk sales. How many people can call crazy before you have to take a closer look at your own sanity?
The missions suck yes but to us, all Quests suck for most any MMO. The sandbox PVE is amazing in this game. The manufacturing, research, trading, exploration, all have incredible depth. I do it all a bit
Maybe EVE missions suck for more then WoW quests I cant say I cant stand either really. But luckily in EVE they never force me to do the missions.
Overall I find EVE PVE much more increidible when I add up all this. Not to mention you can build a POS and run a business from there. and the politics.... The the market system
Yes, Empire eve missions are boring. If that was what EVE had to offer for PvE, it would be pretty boring.
Are you telling me that killing 10 orcs for their teeth and returning them for a pittance is that much better than an eve mission?
Try negative sector pirate missions, using scanners to track down the various plexes and exploration sites (re: space dungeons for the un-initiated)
Or if you have really tried all of these things, then try exploring wormhole space, with a completely new and more advance AI then anything else in game.
No, there are no "missions" to hold your hand to go find these things, but once you actually learn to play the game you'll find Eve has a much larger and more diverse PvE experience then nearly anything out there.
Of course, there are many corps that just do these things, but PvP is the bloody heart of EvE, so don't judge the game till you've tried one of the alliances and spent some time PvPing in 0 sec (or pirate corp if thats your bag).
My mate started playing the game a few weeks ago and as a huge MMO fan i decided to see what all the fuss was about... so i got a trial and downloaded it ect only to be disapointed in the very poor game set up and how easy it was to complete missions in plenty of time... is it me or does any1 else find this very boring and drole? All you gotta do is click the mission to set a waypoint and the ship does the rest then you pick the item up or drop it off and then head back if this is what the game is all about then it truly is one boring game for hmm how do i say this... amature MMO players. I found the game lacking and after i completed the trial i was left baffeled as to how easy and boring the game was...if you ask me this game is very overated only thing they got right on this game is the graphics witch is questionable, Not even the combat is hard...sigh maybe next time EVE maybe...
I've been playing eveonline since early beta and i've been seeing these kind of posts for the past 5 years , they still amuse me plenty .
Eve is not for everyone heard that one before , kinda tired of seeing all these bored wow players come try eve and bash it just for the fun of it.
If you dont like a game fine dont PLAY , but in reality eve is of the best mmo's out there coming from someone like me that been playing these types of games since early UO times i think i played enough mmorpg to be able to evaluate .
anyways hope you never post again mister i have 2 posts and i can give my opinion.sheesh

no, that's not it at all.
what you CAN compare this to is someone playing wow for two weeks.... during that time all they do is kill lvl 2 boars, and deliver a cup of hot coffee back and forth.
but, i do respect your opinion on well, whatever it was on.
for some reason people believe opinions can not be wrong. i can have the opinion that the moon is made of cheese. i can have the opinion (and present it as fact) that the earth is flat AND on the back of a giant tortoise.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Firstly i have to say that i have just within the last 3 or 4 days (can't be 100% as i didnt log on for the last few days) finished my EvE trial. What the OP say's is very true, the gameplay is a kin to a flight simulator only it's emersed in a universe populated by thousands of other flight simulators. The one truelly off putting thing about EvE is the eliteism of the game, to me the whole point of a trial is to entice you into going past said trial onto a paid sub. Yet in EvE it seems you have NO choice but to spend the entire trial doing skill points which means you have no choice but to do the PvE quests. Back to the eliteism issue as i feel i digressed somewhat from my point. It seems that the community within EvE are rather too smug given that they already know all the in's and out's of the game, if you ask a simple question you can expect to be scorned upon and spoken down to like your utterly stupid for not already knowing everything in game. Also the idea that i "can't" play and indeed enjoy the game without someone else showing me how to is both preposterous and insulting. This is why i find EvE's comunity too eliteist and erm down right rude.
Just my OPINION based on my Experiences both in game and in the forums.
I do agree that the game can be slow, especially the missions.
The PvP can be alot of fun tho.
The game has much to offer, but you have to "endure" the slowness of it to get to the good stuff.
It is notthing about instant gratification, Ryzom for example is not instant gratification either, but there is more action to be had on the way to where you are going.
For me it will always be about the journey, and the journey in EVE can indeed get boring.

I disagree strongly with the people being elitist, I had very good help from the community when I started, perhaps minmatar starter corp is better then others
The fact that you need to learn the game, and the easiest way is to ask others, is not preposterous or insulting imho.

Well firstly if you don't see the elitist nature of seasoned EvE players, read back through this threads posts, it's litterally soaked in the "i know something you don't know" condescending tones i have come to expect from EvE players (not all but most). Secondly just because the game is in-depth and has many neuances, in no way means that i should expect to have to ask other players how to play. It at the end of the day is a game and games are meant to be fun, fun is not sitting in some space station reading a 16 page dossier on how to play the game.
OP is obvlously truely new to the game who has only done courier missions... that... or he's a troll.
Worse... most of the responses are all flame-a-holics just looking for a reason to be asshats. How about you guys, instead of flaming the poor SOB all the time, try to just reply to the thread in an informative manner rather than trying to insult him? Truely all you're doing is being asshats and generally disproving any statement that our community is one of the most mature in the MMO genre.
Actually we DO have a pretty mature community in EVE.... just seems our forum presence has become a cesspool over the years.
OP:
In answer to your questions/statements:
Doing courier missions is not going to be fun. Get some combat missions... they'll add a little spice (not a ton) to your gameplay. As others have said get some isk together and learn to fly cruisers then head into lowsec or join a 0.0 corp/alliance and head out to nullsec. That is where you will truely experience what EVE is all about.
I also strongly advise that you spend some time with either EVE University or Agony Unleashed in game to get a hang of the basics. Agony will teach you how to PVP... EVE Uni will teach you some of that as well but will also teach you alot of other things about EVE as well.
All of the above having been said... EVE is not a game of instant or quick gratification. It's about deciding where you want to be a week... 2 weeks... 3 weeks down the line. Combat is about preparation more than the combat itself. Taking and holding space is more about the planning and the logistics than the pretty explosions (though they ARE fun to see/make). EVE is more of a strategy/tactics game and far less of a 'shooter' game. Yes, you make pretty lights and things go boom... but that's really not what EVE is about. EVE is about conquest, building a reputation, building an empire and building wealth (not necessarily in that order). How you get there is the game. It definitely has boring aspects to it and absolutely takes some work to really 'get' it. But once you 'get' EVE.... you're hooked... If you never get hooked then it's more a case of EVE just not being your style of game than anything else.

Actually, you might want to do that check yourself. The majority of replies from EVE players in almost every thread on this board are EVE players that offer advice, explain how systems work, provide links to additional material, and suggest ways the person could solve their problem or experience more in EVE.
That is the complete opposite of "I know something you don't know." If anything, it's the trolls that sport that attitude, as it is the only defense they have in the absence of links, references, data, or supporting material.

A rational response would have been "You didn't like the game, but I do and I respect your opinion ."
Hahahahahahahaha! When would ANYONE on these forums ever say something like that!
You must be new here...
Actually, I've seen that response frequently in the eve forum. It's hard to respond that way, however, when people support their opinions with factually inaccurate and anecdotal evidence.
By the way that "escapist" interview in salvatoris' sig is pretty funny. They should show that everywhere, it would help scare off the kind of people that really don't belong in eve in the first place (and hopefully reduce the number of confused whiners that post on forums like this).

try pvp. eveyone knows missions arent challenging.
/emote dies of laughter.
This stupid thread is still going, damn.
Well Bloody Said Sir!

Well Bloody Said Sir!

No, wrong again Salvatoris.
Rook_Highwind about 3/4 down
Rifter vs 747
And_here's_a_great_link_for_starship_fans
PS. You can drag the ship images around and compare them side-by-side. Don't all thank me at once
Just buries the crap out of EQ clones
Yes its boring, its very repetative and slugish.
Missions are very moring, low sec to 0.0 agents its the same really.
But if you want to do missions 0.0 or high sec is the best place because often there are pirates just waiting for your npc tanked ship.
industrial is also boring like hell, invention to building.
pos wars, wow eve is evolving -_-
new epic arc mission was a total waste of time for nothing, its more of a newbie mission which still is borin and same as other agent missions.
pvp well its the same as before new T3 ships are pretty much usless so far and not worth it.
the fun part i like in eve is the politics and intrigues.

Peace

So sad
If you never get hooked then it's more a case of EVE just not being your style of game than anything else.

eve boring? only if your grinding missions or busting roids.
set your auto pilot for AZN-D2 and start flying I garrentee you that it will be an "exciting flight"
btw make sure your clone is up to date.
eve is all about spy's, stealing, big alliances & PVP.
played:WoW and Eve off and on 5 years
Tried:CoH/V, PoTBS, War, TR, STO, FE

Actually, you might want to do that check yourself. The majority of replies from EVE players in almost every thread on this board are EVE players that offer advice, explain how systems work, provide links to additional material, and suggest ways the person could solve their problem or experience more in EVE.
That is the complete opposite of "I know something you don't know." If anything, it's the trolls that sport that attitude, as it is the only defense they have in the absence of links, references, data, or supporting material.

people who ask questions get advice, people who flame or troll get flamed. seems fair to me.
