You should give it another shot with a corporation that takes in newbs, who can show you around. EVE can be very intense or very boring. That is entirely dictated by the player. If you lack understanding and think small, repetititve, and boring, that's exactly what the game will be.

missions in eve are exactly the same as quests in wow/eq etc .. they are a means to end, they are a 'grinding' mechanic inherant in EVERY mmo you will ever play, the only difference is in eve grinding missions just gets you stuff and not XP. you put no effort into playing the game, & therefore you got little from it in return.
Not really. I did a 21 day trial of Eve a while back. Quests in WOW are a lot more fun and have varied location/mobs to fight compared to Eve missions. Plus, at least in the low level, I got the same mission again and again (seems like there is very few missions .. this is before the march expansion pack) while you don't repeat a quest in WOW until level 80.
"you put no effort into playing the game, & therefore you got little from it in return." .. now this sentence is so so wrong. Games are entertainment. They should entertain us.
I was playing FEAR2 the other day (a pretty good FPS) and i am having tremendous amount of fun just shooting enemies around and following the story. Playing games should NOT be like work.

I just wanted to add in here for the above quote. In other games grinding is a means to and end but that end is the level cap so you can start doing the end game stuff. Eve does not have that level cap or end game like other games. All of Eve is end game basically. Missions are there for casual players to make some money when they know they have set time to play. Some people enjoy the missions as they are, not my thing but hey neither is mining but if others enjoy it then by all means I will let them have thier fun. That is all a part what makes Eve great.

I do agree that games should not feel like work. But not all games have to be brain dead easy to learn and be good at with little to no effort given by the player to learn. What is wrong with some extra time learning a game so that you may enjoy that game for years to come ? Or do you think Fear will keep you occupied that long ?
yay, more trolls to rip to shreds. run on back to your epics little boy, i hear that theres a level 18 newbie in a contested zone for you to kill in one hit.
To be fair, EvE's PvE is pretty lackluster. Exploration is OK (both regular and wormhole types) but that's mostly because it fits in with EvE's "Go do whatever" self-directed ethos. Personally I hate running missions, haven't done one in months and haven't missioned seriously in over a year now. It's just so boring, and you don't get anything out if it except ISK and standings. I have the standings I need and there's lots of more interesting ways to make ISK.
i like how you all go "oh yea well maybe you only played it for 21 days and didnt like it, but you have to play it for x amount of time to try everything there is to do, then tell me you dont like it!" if i dont like what i can do in the first 21 days, im sure as hell not going to stick around for x amount of time more to try what you all like...
good job guys 19 pages of troll feeding. Its pretty obvious the guy isn't serious at all but sure lets all discuss his post.
Honestly at this point I don't care if someone is a troll or not anymore. I post in here to maybe show some new player who may happen to come accross threads like this one will actually get some persepctive on the game rather than some trolls lame lies and BS.
If a troll feels all warm and fuzzy inside because people are feeding his troll then I will let him have that because obviously if someone is that lonely and pathetic in life then I will sorry for them and help them feel better about themselves so they don't go cut themselves or worse kill themself. I wouldn't want their family to deal with that grief.
I hear you on that one, I give every game i play a certain amount of time to impress me, entertain me, or just entertain me, plotform games get about 30 mins, but with mmo's like eve i give them until the free trail runs out to earn my 15$ a month and eve failed its simply takes too long the learning curve is was too step, this is how (I know I am getting flaming for this..) wow became so popular because it's so simple to pick up and play. they obviously didn't make this game for the causal gamer nor did they make it for the noob mmorpg, I tried it when through the toturial, the time it takes to get to a mission plus the time it took to complete didn't agree with me especally for the first couple of missions. I manage to gain quite a few lvl's..at least that's what I think what happen,( I remember some stat's getting better) but it didn't seem to make a differnce. I tried this many years ago I think when it first came out and then again maybe a year ago, but I still didn't like it, If you cant even keep my attention for 4 hours you dont deserve my 15$ a month. I am sure its a great game once you get past the atrocious learning curve but most of us lack the time to get a freaking degree in rocket science in order to play the game, I hope that black prophecy (that's right that just happend I just dropped the name of another sci-fi shooter in an eve discussion) gets it right the I dea of space and having your own ship interests me.

Look, and don't understand where half of you are coming from? You say he is bashing the game, but he isn't, he is just asking why he finds it boring, and why he might be missing the trick... He is entitled to his opinion, yet he isn't a troll, or a basher... He is just making a simple enquiry on why he finds it boring! Jeez.

WoW is a popular game, this is true, McDonalds is also a popular fast food place, does this make McDonalds good food ? Or a better question. Does this make a McDs meal better than a steak at a steakhouse ?
I do hope Black Prophecy turns out to be good, I truly do. You know why ? Because the MMO genre needs to move away from cliched fantasy setting which is so cliched now mainly because of WoWs popularity. I certainly do not have any faith in Reakktors ability to produce a working game though. I played their previous game Neocron for a while and while it was probably the best overall concept for an MMO the devs just didn't finish the game. I hope Reakktor has changed how it handles BP over how they did with Neocron. Neocron was full of great ideas but the problem was that none of them actually worked. Everything in the game was borked in some weird way.
I doubt CCP has much to worry about with BP though. I really don't think that many people who play Eve are suffering though the non twitch controls just because they want a space / sci fi MMO that badly.
Its ok you don't like Eve, I hope BP gives you what you want. Without the depth of Eve BP will just be a mindless shooter gankfest if they go with a PvP type game like they did with Neocron. But from what I have seen in the videos it's looking like an instanced pve game. I will be fair though and say that I am sure that video doesn't show everything.
The only things Eve and BP will have in common is the fact they are both in space. After that they are going to be 2 totally different games.
Look, and don't understand where half of you are coming from? You say he is bashing the game, but he isn't, he is just asking why he finds it boring, and why he might be missing the trick... This thread isn't about the OP anymore. It's now a general discussion about Eve and peoples boredom with the game. In most cases people are bored with the game because they come into Eve with the mental block that the game will be like the other big MMOs and they treat the game as such. Eve doesn't work that way so therfore players get bored because they do not know what to do. Most of peoples boredom problems are caused by lack of direction but instead of that being the problem it must be the game right ? Atleast thats the attitude some people come here with.
I read this thread and another one reguarding EVE and boring, actually I searched this 2 words on google, because I am bored by EVE, and I wanted to see if there is something that I am missing, because I saw a lot of people talking very nicely about EVE, including 2 guys I trust. So I thought I am missing something. I did not find what I was missing. But I saw some arguments that I find not very convincing, and I will write here what I think, though I am aware that there is a big chance I will be misunderstood. I saw some are telling 'this game is not for everyone', but nobody says what kind of player is meant to play it. So I guess there is no meaning in this. I saw the word 'sandbox'. I fail to see this sandbox. All the options I saw are mining and level 1 missions. I tried to convince some guys to come with me on some lowspace missions, they did not, but, anyway, I do not believe begging for help from day 1 is a way to play a game. The other thing I saw on this forum, is the statement, 'you have to play it more than 21 days trial to understand the game' . Well, if you forgive my french, this is plain stoopid. I like this game, I like the variety of items and I feel something in it, but it begins to bore me. I do not plan to wait a million years to find out about it, it is a game, not a redemption. I want to find about it now, or forget about it. Well, these are my thoughts. Yes, I made this account just for writing these in here. No, I am no troll. My internet activity is minimum. i just deleted my hi5 account, which I did not use anyway. I expect some clarity from some game guru, to make me understand what is this game about.
First off, I'm not a Guru. I will, however, try to answer you question as directly as possible.
"I fail to see this sandbox. All the options I saw are mining and level 1 missions."
In short, this is your problem. EVE is a sandbox and that is the way it is intended to be played. The point of missions is to build up standing so you can make money in the higher levels when you need it, but your first goal in the sandbox is to learn to tackle for other players. The same can be said for mining.
EVE is a highly social empire building game in a open universe. You have to work as a team to build up and protect space. The game itself does not provide you with direction. It does, however, give you an extraordinary amount of ways to work together and survive in a very hostile universe. There are a great many people who find it very challenging and enjoyable. Of course, as you never tried you wouldn't know. As the last poster in the original thread said, if you try to play the game like a solo theme park chances are you will get bored very soon. This is why the game is not for everyone. Some people enjoy traditional theme park type play, and there is nothing wrong with that.
BTW next time you have a question start a new thread.

I don't like being patronized. Yes, it is my problem , that is why I asked, if you do not care answering, why bother? I will quit this forum, I do not like being told I am stoopid , in very distinguished words.By the way, I have a degree in maths, and I find myself not the most stoopid person in the planet. I played a bunch of games, I particulary like strategy games. Like HOMM3 , Caesar or Europa Universalis. I believe that my words fit in this topic, who was started about a guy who said he did not understand EVE, and I believe I did not offended anybody. I also believe that my question was logical, considering I played the game for a few days and I am blocked. I know what a social network is, and I believe forums are part of it. I can assure you that I have no hidden purpose, I was asking only for some general directions. I was told that I am too stoopid to figure out the game , so be it.

First, did you join and become active in a Corporation? As a new player you'll be overwhelmed and unable to realize what all you can do. Hence why only Level 1 Missioning and Mining is visible to you. They are very simple, basic structures that offers instant, quantifiable rewards. Joining a Corp will open doors to you that you didn't realize existed. Ultimately though, Eve is what you make of it.
I understand why EvE players take up arms so heavily when their game is insulted. New players will read this and not try the game. Which in turns hurts the game's future growth.
THE GAME IS BORING. Sorry EVE players. Skills take "time" to train and not effort. That's BORING. Moving your ship in a command esque function and watching it happen is BORING.
I tried to stick with it. A game called Taikodom is better.
Who here is afraid to be flamed? Does it actually ruin anyone's day? So many EVE players arrived to defend the game they should be having fun "playing" and that's funny to me.
I guess you're just waiting for all those skills you have in your queue to finish training. That's such a joke. It really is a bad joke. Shame on you guys for paying to "observe" a game. Now stop reading this and go add another skill into your list.

So what? His perception is the same as many others. Eve is "Excel in space" or "the most expensive screen-saver you can have."
I played it, and it bores me. Once you can use a Domi you can begin to afk missions. Its a huge, empty, afk fest. I didnt even mind going through 0.0 because there was never anyone around.

I played 3 days of a 14 day trial. I thought the game could be great, but I just didn't want to invest the amount of time it would require to learn the ins/outs of the game. It was pretty obvious that for a casual player just looking for entertainment EVE will never fill that role, and EVE is definitely of the aquired taste variety.
However, EVE does offer excellent forum PVP that fits more into the casual role.

I don't believe his response was in regards to stormpuma's opinion, but more in the way that he added nothing constructive and went out of his way to bait people into a flamefest.
The word "constructive" is seriously over-used in these forums. Being direct gets your point across alot faster than stringing together a bunch sentences that say the exact same thing. It's not trolling or starting a flamefest.

Touchy Much?
I'm not aware of anyone calling you stupid, and at the expense of digging the hole deeper I think you misunderstood my statement.
"This is your problem" means it's the problem the game presents you with to solve.
TBH tho all the answers to your question are in the original thread, and since you really are an OP you should have started a new one.
Nice drama tho

@ Qazyman "drama queen"? Good job. Let me think of a good comeback using 90's inspired terminology.
"Talk to the hand".
