Well FFA games tend to attract serious gamers imo. but if you ever want to try a more casual sandbox feel free to come to ryzom.

I actually run Rp parties in the game and am one of the nicest most helpful people you will run into.

I take new players on treks, help them afford their apartments and mounts and even give tips on things like spell customization.

If you actually knew me you would laugh your ass off and the stupid shit I type here because im totally in character atm.

Some say Warcraft was basically stolen from Warhammer.  Warhammer has traditional fantasy, like Warhammer Online, but also from my limited understanding a sci-fi version.  Maybe Blizz will copy again and it'll be like Warcraft in space....but different from Starcraft lol.

I could see orcs riding some ghetto spaceship with spikes coming off of it.

HAHA! ok ill be myself just for you and actually respond to the OP.

Since i've basically spent the last 150 post in two days ripping WoW fans and Eve haters ill step back and be my normal self.

    Here you go, ready?

    To the OP:

Noone is looking forward to Blizzards normal games more then me. I;ve been a Blizzard Fan for a very long time. from the days of lost vikings to Starcraft they have all been quality products that have kept me busy for a very long time.

Games Like Diablo3 and StarCraft2 are above even the sandbox games im looking forward to. So when i heared Blizzard will be giving a few wacks at another MMO or two im interested.

While I might not agree with the current Direction in WoW there was a time that I did enjoy it for a short while. So bring the new games on and hopefully they will crate a game that I actually want to spend a couple years playing.

The fanboi inside of me is kind of disapointed that one of those MMOS won't be starcraft. would be kinda cool to play a Ghost or firebat :)

Edit: Now Imagine if I acted like my normal self all the time, noone would care. I wouldnt have 100+ long threads it would be me with my happy thoughts and maybe like 6-7 other players agreeing with me lol. How lame would that be? It's just more exciting to be a dick.

does blizzard still employ anyone that worked on starcraft, diablo, or warcraft?  i don't think they do.  i think the entire "blizzard north" team left the building a couple of years back (for the last straggler).

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

You mean they were the only employees in the world that can make great games? Then we are doomed.

We can only look at blizz and hope.  Yes many of the first generation designers were gone, they are replaced.  How good the next generation can be we never know.  We can only guess and pray for them (and for us, to have a new good game).

My bet is still on Blizz.  From day 1 to now, they have yet to fail.  That seems to indicate some kind of consistency, despite the many teams that were deployed over those years, over different games.  Lets hope this will last, and the next game will deliver.

One sad thing about blizz, they took their sweet time.  It won't be years before we even see some news about alpha.

I am stay out of the verbal fights about WoW.  WoW is not all Blizz has.  Everything from Blizz is good.  I do play WoW, period.

    Long live Bill Roper!

Twas a sad day when he left the Blizzard team.

Although... I will admit his post-Blizard efforts have been underwhelming to say the least.

Maybe it has more to do with throwing a heap of money at a game, and a whole lot of time to do it right?

This new MMO that Blizzard is developing is starting to worry me based on several facts that we now know about the game

    1. It will not compete with World of Warcraft

    2. It will be a new IP

So why does that worry me? It's not just a change in genre that would make the above statement true. If Blizzard released a StarCraft MMO it would be different from WOW but it WOULD compete with it. People would flock to the latest MMO with better graphics and updated gameplay regardless of the genre (as long as it wasn't stupid). So this leads me to think there are other reasons why the above statement is true and that is what worries me.

    Possible Reasons:

    1. Console based MMO for next gen consoles (could be cool but I like PC titles)

    2. PC based MMO aimed at different demographic (women, children or casual gamer)

    3. PC based MMO with gameplay so radically different from WOW that it attracts more of an FPS or RTS type player (but even then I still think a game like this would compete with WOW)

    I sure hope it's number 3.

As much as I enjoy WoW, I will never accuse Blizzard of being original. They excel at refining ideas and genres and refusing to publish a product until it is really, truly ready for consumption. In short, they tend to play it safe. And I can't blame them.

That said, I'm not expecting their new product to be very progressive in regards to design and functionality; I don't think it's going to define a new genre (as UO did for MMOs, for example). I doubt it will even be a compelling merger of two or three genres that we haven't already seen. But, I bet it will be fun and draw plenty of customers.

Of course, I would love to be wrong.

Atleast we know with blizzard that it will only be released if its a good game, if it doesnt live up to there standards itll just be scrapped.

All fantasy based games are derivative of previous entries into the genre. Warhammer isn't exactly original either.

Oh give that stupid, WAR copyed LOTR crap a rest. The only similarities these two have is they had orcs and elves in it, that's all! It's like saying Star Wars stole from Flash Gordon or Star Trek just because there's space travel and aliens in it...0o

There are levels on how similar one IP can get with another, and War/Starcraft are very similar to the games Games Workshop made.

Anyone that denies it or applies that stupid "well everyone steals from everyone" bull is nothing more than a retarded fanboi trying to come to terms justifing Blizzard copying ideas from other sources.

Doesn't change the fact that Blizzard makes awesome games though....original? That's where they suck....=/

    Warhammer 40k vs StarCraft

    Terran = Space Marines

    Zerg = Tyrannids

Protoss = Eldars (Eldars come from the Craft World)

    Warhammer vs Warcraft

    High Elves = Night Elves

They both have orc, dwarf and human races.

Do we really need to keep explaining this ?

Thats weird cause those are the only similarities between warhammer and warcraft. The two different universes don't feel similar at all and the lore is completely different. Honestly If blizzard can take some ideas and be infinitely more successful with them than other companies then more power to em. Why let warhammer keep all the ideas and suck ass when we can have the best RTS games of all time and a pretty good MMO. All we've gotten from warhammer is a terrible MMO and an RTS that now sucks because they changed it too much.

    NO it isn't..

Not only are all the races similar but so are the stories and the way they're characterized.

    Lets see...hmmm?

    -Two waring elf factions..CHECK

A schism happens in the lore both in Warcraft and Warhammer in the elves society, splitting in Warcraft Night Elves with High Elves and in WAR, High Elves and Dark Elves. And in both lores the confrontation almost destroys the world.

    -Orcs being a shamanistic society....CHECK

Not only do the ocrs and goblins look alike in both Warhammer and Warcraft, but their society is even structured the same. The only difference being in Warcraft gobins are a neutral race....EVEN THOUGH THEY STILL LOOK AND ACT THE SAME...0o

-Dwarves being a technologically advances race.....CHECK

Last time I checked, dwaves didn't have guns and flying machines in LOTR. The only difference blizzard shamelessly makes in the similarities between these two is adding Gnomes in the frame....can you say "weak."

-The Humans and their Holy Warriors...CHECK

In Warcraft, the humans are generally lead by Paladins and governed by their religious beliefs in the light....and guess how the lore is amongst the humans in Warhammer as well.

Ok quick run through in other stuff...

    -Undead races...CHECK

-Demonic entities entering the world through a twisting nether of some sort......CHECK

    .....

You know what, give me a week or two to do more research and I can write 100 pages essay on all the similarities I find.

The similarities are that redicules....It's like blizzard decided to buy up a whole bunch of books written about Warhammer since the 80s, pick up every bit of material and slightly change it a bit to make it look different.....-_-

point taken but i still don't see why you are all bent out of shape about it. Thats all the more ill say on that bit of the subjuect. I still am totally for blizzard until someone makes a warhammer game that doesn't suck (that also isn't the tabletop game). To clarify it better be better than the blizzard version of the game type. Until then Blizzard > * for me.

Definitely showed me up but its also very much a subject I would just shrug and move on about.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2

the game is so bad it hurts. Dawn of war 1 was better and still not as good as starcraft.
