*A lot* of promises with less than 30% of discussed features actually at release ( despite Tasos's claim of "100% feature complete"....that quote needs to go down as one of the lies of the century in gaming development. )
AoC and WAR, their boxes line the wall of shame alongside Vanguard.
"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast, And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed: And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill, And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!" ~Lord George Gordon Byron
Age of Conan, definately. What made it worse was that the developers actually dared to lie to their customers agian and agian until the customers finally got fed up and left in flocks
How most current MMO communities focus primarily on solo play as well as PvP, and shy away from aspects that once made this genre great. I could take almost any game on the market and throw in an old-school UO or Ryzom community and would be content regardless of the games structure or status.
Aside from this, the decision to scrap UO2 was my personal biggest let-down.
WAR was not a big disappontment - i did not expect much and did not get much - its a draw.
Vanguard was disappointing yes, buggy in the beginning and empty when i tried it again.
Tabula Rasa was very disappointing, expected more from Richard Garrison.
but the biggest let down for me in mmorpg history was LOTRO. Not because it was a failure or is a bad game but because it is nothing special, while the LOTR books are special among books and the LOTR movies are special among fantasy movies.I probably expected too much from it, i was hoping for some kind of middle earth online but all i found was a kid-friendly "click here" to get experience quest grind with nice graphics and shallow game play.
Thankfully i found a new home in an almost forgotten MMO.
the NGE from swg. I mean come on, they get your hopes up with this awesome game, and then erase that game and make an entirely new and totally crappy game with the same name.
Tabula Rasa was probably the biggest dissapointment just because it sucked big time and it was made to sound really cool. I was also kinda dissapointed with WAR and Darkfall would have been the biggest dissapointment but I wasn't excited about it to begin with.
Don't you mean anything with DARK added with "and Light" or "fall"? Because DARK Age of Camelot is a good game.
For me, it'd be WAR. However, that's just personal opinion, because I let myself get too hyped for it and that caused me to have unrealistic expectations. I only played it for a couple months but am considering returning now that the Call to Arms expansion is complete.
for me it is AOC, i dont care if this going to be WOW killer or whatever. I just hate to see this game get failure because this game have the best pvp, & graphic.
SWG was the BIGGEST let down ever idc what you say because it had us fans work long and hard for our jedis then they let corrupted devs destroy the true vision they had for the game. biggest dissapointment ever

Ah yes! I loved DAoC. Thank you for the correction haha
Every MMO released in the last 4 years. All have been mediocre, all haven't pushed any boundaries of innovation, all have been more of the same of what's come before. Only players they stay with them and think they're the best are those who've just come to the MMO genre in the last 4 years.

Vanguard hands down
yeah Aion blows imo and AoC is just as bad
There are times when one must ask themselves is it my passion that truly frightens you? Or your own?
Darkfall without a doubt.

DDO because of the high expectation.
WAR

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Weird thing is VG would go on my list of games that were the biggest pleasant surprise.

Anything with DARK in it
Darkfall
if I say anymore about it I might have to kill a kitten.

EQ & EQ2 going from P2P to P2P with an item mall.

Meridian 59
Planetside: in that SOE left it to die on a shelf. One of the best in its prime.
Biggest flop for me was loosing the pre-cu system in swg.
Major runners up: Dark and Light, Vanguard, The way SOE have left planetside (Awesome game).
Honorable Mentions: Darkfall, Age of Conan, The Matrix Online, RF Online.
biggest let down in mmorpg history is easy to answer - WARHAMMER
Femmes Fatales - The Power of the Feminine in the Art of MMOs.
Played:
WOW - GW - WAR - AOC - CoH/CoV - EQ2 - SWG - FFXI - DAOC - EVE - VG - L2 - RFO - DFO - DDO - LOTR
it was warhammer for me
