What about the PvE part ? Is the Gladiator able to, if the group is coordinated well enough, tank most of the time with another off tank gladiator, or is a Templar necessary if you wanna go and beat the heck outta some Bosses. So far i've only played Aion up to level 20 as i stated above and i've got no clue how it'll turn out later on - but from what i've got to see in the Black Claw Outpost/Village and even against the Chieftain there my dualwield Gladiator did well. ( I've had those lv20 green crafted swords with +90 HP so ~ 2.5k hp on my Gladi with full crit / dmg Manastones )
Glad is ok for 90% PvE part.
Only except very few strongest raid bosses Glad is able to tank in most situation.
killkill2 thanks for your continues replies to this thread, providing useful insights. I have some questions though: 1) How's the assassin in group pvp? Useful? Always dead? 2) Other than the AOE DOT the spiritmaster's damage is anygood in PVP? Does it manage to kill anything? Best regards.
1. Assassin has very high dps. but armor is quite weak. to run as a group you've got to have some tank
If you don't want to lose your mates one by one and retreat(3man died 3man running away, doomed situation:x)
They are good. Just not in my deck. Assasin's 99% dps is on a target(No AOE), and he has almost no group utility.
But if you gonna run as solo/duo Assassin will be most fun class.
2. SM's dps is seriously mean nothing..
But 'Binding Wings' is used to be 'I Win' button to a certain target
Let me describe some situations
When each classes are engaged in battle how much dps do they can deal in 5sec, 30sec
with their 100%power include some skills that required high DP and long cooltime.
Each class's average DPS in 5sec to a target after you engaged to battle

Im curious on what the Skills a Spirit master gets that are great for CC. Are they AoE CC? Stun? Root? Mez? What is it that they do that can help a group in PvP so much aside from there AoE?
First of all i'd like to thanks you for all the quality answers & information you provide about the game and the korean community (didn't thought the grind mania was that high !!)
I've read all the post but.... I've got few questions !!
About that famous "magic resist" everyone is QQing about on some forums, melee combat, and more....
1) Isn't "magic accuracy" done to prevent/counter magic resist ?
For example, would a sorcerer with 500 magic accuracy hit 'normaly' an ennemy with '500 magic resist' ? (that would mean to have magic resist / magic accuracy manastones set, no hp, but that's another problem )
Magic accuracy and magic resists are designed well and working fine. If you spec your toon on magic accuracy, magic resist specced toon gonna be your meal Since most(i can say 8-90%) Korean don't wanted to real PvP(in term of daoc 8v8 roam hehe :-) ) but liked to PvE,zerg, grind, pure backstab they just wanted high DPS on their toon = Way to be wtfpwned by real PvPer(who mostly setup their toons with magic resist) and time to whine about magic resist is overpowered nerf plz fuck
2) Could this strategy be possible or is their a game mechanism preventing it ?
In lot of sorcerer videos (not that i want to play sorcerer, but purely theory crafting speaking), we see the 'cage spell', which paralyze the ennemy, then the sorcerer chains some lightning instant skills.
Can a Sorcerer A "cage" an ennemy, and a hit him with a Sorcerer B assisting him (without breaking the cage) ?
Then let's be creasy and say the S-B "cages" the ennemy right after the S-A cages fade, and the S-A assists him.
Guess you talking about 'Air Shackles' it shackle a target onto air and the target is binded(stunned) to air for about 2sec. While target is Air Shackled most class can use positional skill that only able to use in Air Shackled state. Only Sorc has another special skill that so called "Flame Shot" thing. this is insta skill and have 0.5sec cooltime so Sorc can shot this 3-5 times(difference by gears and ping) So yes C sorc can shot lightning(flame in fact) on A target that Air Shackled by B sorc and vice versa
3) Gladiator weapon switching for AE / single target(s) DPS ?
Let's talk about Gladiators (I played a Glad on KR up to level 37 (got bored of mono bind grinding)). I tried Polearm and Dual Wielding. I found what looks like a dual wield bug... The "dagger - mace" combo (huge crit rate, huge crit damage, fast hit speed). This made me think about switching weapon set regarding to the combat situation...
In RvR group (I mean 6man roaming, or 6man vs zerg, daoc ftw !), does the Gladiator have to switch between Polearm (for Knockback effect) and Dual Wield (single target dps + double godstone effect) or is it worthless ?
Dual wield has about x1.5~x2 times dps than Polearm. Surely dual wield is better for PvE. But as you know by playing daoc key point of killing target is stun. Knockback effect(2sec stun) from Glad's can't be resisted by magic resist not like Stun effect. If you aren't fighting against mindless AI you've got to stop em first to kill it or it runs away. So in most pvp situation Polearm is better than Dual Wield. *If you gonna run a zerg dual wield is sunshine for you cause what you needed is better DPS for better AP (in term of aoe dot spam for my RPS XD)
4)In a 6man RvR group, do you see the Gladiator as a melee pusher DPS, or a defensive DPS ?
We really are hesitating on getting a gladiator or not in our "optimized group"... We only have ranged class, and are planning to play like a DAOC Albion Caster group (NOT THAT WE LIKE ALBION PLEASE LOL, ALBION = LAMAH, that said, i can continue np).
We see the gladiator as an Albion Armsman... Mostly defending his casters, but pushing when he cans. BUT ! The 25m + height cast range problem (especialy for heals) made us doubt about the gladiator survivability and utility .... What's your opinion/experience about the Gladiator in rvr group ? That Albion Caster group is something that our first plan :P We wanted to extend against some massive enemies while CC things and cut off overextenders.. But this doesn't work well because our Glad mate didn't played any real PvP(term of daoc roaming) He used to overextend and died,,,,than he cut overextenders what a QQ You'll know what I'm saying.. with dumb Merc/Arms specialist of Sorc/Cab/Theurg can't do much as 7v8 without peeling. This thing is much more serious in Aion. Needed extremely cooperated team work to succeed extanding since Aion doesn't have uncurable CC that remaining long time like Roots in DAOC Anyway Glad is hard tank if you needed some tank in 6v6 group Glad better than Templar by better group utility, AOE toys, DPS Templar has x3~x4 armor than Glad, but lack of all those utilities( group utility, AOE toys, DPS)
5) Can we transform into Shugo in PvP ?
Love Sogekebite transfo in Daoc xD
Ok stupid question, next.
But wait, no, that's not as stupid as it looks like !
Really, can we transform/change skin and be able to fight ? (assassin transfo prevent you from fighting, some item use too...)
You can transform to some other stupid other creature but no Shugo atm (I heard 1.5 patches dark shugo form transforming candy adding in) But fighting in transformed look is No way for now lol. I miss the plain where small Sobekites were running around.
6) Is their a lot of 'stealth adders' during fights ?
I mean like in Daoc, everywhere you are fighting (even in the most retired side of NF...) you get stealthers poping out of nowhere on your healer/casters. In Aion it scares me (i'm not really scared irl, no leg shaking or what) if there were lot of Assassins adds... Regarding their DPS, on a caster group this would be troublesome :X
Yes it's troublesome. so tank is needed to peel the shits with some stun/knockback/dps while casters to backward
7) Chanter in defensive DPS role ?
Let's talk about Chanters ! Ok so Chanters are like Friar/Warden, great.. In 4), i talked about Gladiator in a defensive role... But could the Chanter take that Role ? I mean stun + dps, or is their DPS that weak that it does not force anyone to back off our 'group core' ?
Yes i think they can take role of peeling class that replacing Glad. But Chanter can't role it perfectly maybe, like the situation. You could run Alb Caster group with Arms/Arms/Pally/Theurg/Sorc/Cab/Cle/Cle Arms/Friar/Pally/Theurg/Sorc/Cab/Cle/Cle well..this seems like missing something(dps or Determination) :P Chanter DPS is almost even to Templar, its average dealing. Friar/Warden job and having Warrior/Hero dps. (Glad is about BM/zerker, Sin/Ranger is about svg/warlock(before nerf lol)
8) Do the Spiritmaster & Sorcerer debuff Fire Resist stack ?
I mean SM assists the sorcerer, all debuffs, then doom it. If the resists stack, does it have a really good impact on the sorcerer's damages or is it a low improvement ?
I think its stack. not much impact for me because i didn't run with sorc at all :x Just had no chance to run with. Sorc is good
Thanks for reading (and answering i hope ). Get prepared ! More questions incomming depending on the answers !
Im curious on what the Skills a Spirit master gets that are great for CC. Are they AoE CC? Stun? Root? Mez? What is it that they do that can help a group in PvP so much aside from there AoE? What would a Spirit Master do if it were 6v6?
Spiritmaster's CC
1. instant snare(12~15sec duration) -> knock back combo : 25m range and 15sec recast timer.
2. 1sec(or 1.5 cant rmb) AOE snare(12~15sec) : effect to target in 25m and all enemies in 15m radius from that target
2. instant buff shearing(you may lose your speed buff) 30sec recast timer.
3. instant Fear(6~8sec duration) : 25m range 5min recast timer the target got feared run away from Spiritmaster automatically
First off, I can't thank you enough for the in-depth answers and commentary you have made in this thread, kilkil2!
I have a very basic question that I can't tell because of lag playing from the U.S. on the Chinese AION servers: Is there a global cooldown (i.e. you must wait 1.5 seconds between actions regardless of type), or is it like DAOC where you can use any abilities that are not on a re-use/cooldown timer?

There is I belive a 1 second cooldown before you can hit a second ability. Where it may be 1 second cool down after useing ability A and trying to hit ability B, this does not take into account that specific abilities have reuse timers of their own.

I hope that makes sense lol.
Yup. Kinda that.
Every melee skill and casting spell has their own melee'ing/casting motion.
after you fire button your toon instantly starting to perform skill/spell motion.
by your weapon's speed or spell's aftermath motion you'll have 0.5~1.5sec term
to fire next skill/spell. each Melee skill/Casting spell has different motion delay.
Generally stronger and threatening skill has more skill's aftermath motion delay.
Hey man, awesome info you're giving here and I thank you very much for it.
I'd like to know some more general stuff regarding gameplay experience itself, the stuff that's pretty important to me and lotsa PvP players out there but they don't seem to get asked...
1) PvP XP. When can you start getting it and what is the rate compared to PvE?
2) I heard about Colliseum (that's pre 25 PvP instance) and it sounds cool.. however do you get XP from participating and is there more than one pre-25 PvP instance in the game?
3) How's PvP instance queuing? Can you join up from anywhere in the world or do you have to talk to a NPC? Are they open all the time or are they cyclical? Is there cross-servering or do you play with only the guys from your server?
4) Balaur - what's their impact on the game? Do they appear in abyss only and how often?
5) Guilds - I heard there are 3 ranks to them. How is guild UI? What are the customization options? Is there an auto-tax system? Guild bank? Alliances?
6) What is the average death waiting time? When you die do you have to run for ages down the same old road to get back to the action or can you rejoin the fray pretty quickly? I don't mind death penalties/debuffs and whatnots but I detest any kind of death time sink longer than 30 seconds (or a few minutes if we wipe). I like my PvP fast and furious with minimum downtime.
7) What are the rewards for raiding enemies PvE zones? Is it only an occasional AP or do you get scouting quests for example? Can you farm other faction's PvE areas if you're able to hold on there?
8) And finally can you utilize non-character actions in PvP, especially open? Meaning: summon allied monsters and npcs, use siege weaponry, trigger certain PvP-related events such as zone-wide buffs/debuffs etc etc or is it just I can outdps your hp before you can outdps mine?
Hey man, awesome info you're giving here and I thank you very much for it. Hello my missions are getting harder and harder..I think i need some rewards lol I'd like to know some more general stuff regarding gameplay experience itself, the stuff that's pretty important to me and lotsa PvP players out there but they don't seem to get asked... 1) PvP XP. When can you start getting it and what is the rate compared to PvE? Just forget about it. Unnoticeable at all 2) I heard about Colliseum (that's pre 25 PvP instance) and it sounds cool.. however do you get XP from participating and is there more than one pre-25 PvP instance in the game? There's no xp. Just for fun and its in Main City aka Elysium or Pandemonium. Since lvl20 you can use Rift to participate open world pvp. Colliseum is opened for everyone and need to talk to a npc to join. 3) How's PvP instance queuing? Can you join up from anywhere in the world or do you have to talk to a NPC? Are they open all the time or are they cyclical? Is there cross-servering or do you play with only the guys from your server? In our version PvP instance isn't exist. In 1.5 version there's PvP instance and need to talk to a NPC to join. Also you may use 'fast join' button to join into any PvP instance that going on. Mostly like to WoW Alterek instance or something(I didn't played WoW so dunno well) It called as something like Dreadgion Instance 6v6 PvP instance. You may able to get more info from 1.5 patch notes. 4) Balaur - what's their impact on the game? Do they appear in abyss only and how often? Not that often and they don't have much impact. Just some mob factions 5) Guilds - I heard there are 3 ranks to them. How is guild UI? What are the customization options? Is there an auto-tax system? Guild bank? Alliances? Just about guild member limitation and emblem limitation. Higher guild level provide more member capability and emblem customization. Auto tax system from Fortress Ownership. If your Legion own a Fortress Legion Master getting tax income automatically into his wallet. Yes there's Guild Bank. No alliances system atm. If you use Kisk you can revive from it in 10sec after you died. it's not that expensive. If you don't have Kisk binded gotta run quite long way back. Kisk has low HP so need to install it in some safe area like friendly NPC zone or Artifact etc 7) What are the rewards for raiding enemies PvE zones? Is it only an occasional AP or do you get scouting quests for example? Can you farm other faction's PvE areas if you're able to hold on there? All things that you explained are in game. There's quite much good infiltration quest to enemy zone. Some of them reward very good items for their level. You can farm APs from enemy race can farm enemy zone mob and boss if you have good force. Well, guess there's almost no toys like that i think. But you can utilize friendly NPCs and Tower, Guard NPCs, Artifacts etc Thank you extremely much for the info! I see. and I seeing more quests incoming QQ ;p
KilKil2 Thanks for the Info on the Spiritmaster, my friend will be happy when i report this all to him.
We however still have more questions!
1. How effective are potions in PvP? Can they make a difference if everyone is using health or mana potions on every cooldown? Are there other potions worth using? Are there any that are worthless completely?
2. Going on the Potions and Alchemy. What trade skills do you reccomend picking up? If you were to scale all the professions on Time, Money spent, Reward (Profit or usefulness). How would you rate best to worst professions?
3. I plan on Playing a Cleric like yourself, because of the same reason as well. My friends like the DPS classes so i dont mind being the backbone healing. I was curious how often you get targeted first? Do the healers such as cleric and Chanters get targeted first and must die? Does it usualy turn into a spam heal yourself and stay alive? Do Clerics have any abilitys that will help escape harm like a Spirit master has. Meaning Fear, Stuns, Mez or any type of CC at all? Any info on the Cleric would be great!
Thanks again Kilkil2. Your information has been amazing so far!
who paid 50000000$ in his gear, No Way to win against Spiritmaster who paid 5$ in his gear haha It's totally fun and thrilling to watch a target going down to abyss's abyss with his broken wings
How do they spend cash? Can you buy gear in game with cash there? Or they buy gold from gold farmers and then buy the gear? Or people ebay the gear for cash?
And is everything tradeable? Nothing like WoW where the nice stuff is mostly no drop?
hey kilkil2, got a few questions regading gladiators i hoped you could answer.
1. How much more item dependent are gladiators compared to lets say something like a ranger or assassin?
2. Are gladiators wanted in 6 man groups?
3. You did mention that gladiators can tank 90% of the content currently in game. Are people however willing to let a gladiator tank or do they always get a templar whenever they can?
4. If a templar is in the party already, do people still invite gladiators for PVE or do they stack on assassins and sorcerers?
5. How difficult is it to get the much needed gladiator stigmas, the dual wield one and the uncle snare, i hear they go for a lot.
6. Overall is it harder for a gladiator to find a PVE group compared to assassin and ranger?
7. What professions are recommended for gladiators?
I said WARHAMMER would fail because RVR is a terrible idea for MMORPG's,this will fail again.People are nopt playing AION for RVR,they are for the most part following the HYPE and the so called great looking game and of course NCSOFT's marketing ploy>>.flying.
I have in the last 50 or so AION threads not ONCE heard anyone talk about RVR,so that is a fact that RVR means nothing.Aion is so lack for content, that after level 20 that is pretty much the only reason to login to this game.
RVR to work properly needs to be a constant war for ownership of an area of a game. This means players have no time for any content or other part of the game.If they choose to ignore the basis of the game witch is RVR,then it fails again,AION is trying to convey a PVE aspect to many, especially in the early levels, but they are bigtime misleading the players.
PVE can send players in many directions,it can give players MANY different things to do,but PVP has ONLY one option,to kill other players, that SHOULD get boring pretty fast and like i said gives a game no content, alienates players from each other, and instead of creating a bond amongst the community,it creates anger , hate, arguing and worst of all...DRAMA.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Nice Troll. Dont bite guys. Leave this dude, Stay on topic with kilkil2
Here's a couple of tougher questions now for you !
1)Can you suit up a cleric to be able to deal moderate/decent DPS for solo PVP, or are they equipped with too few damage-dealing skills to really kill someone with/outlast them by healing, regardless of your gear socketing for magic power/etc.? In other words, can I make my cleric lesser at healing but better at magic damage by molding it with gear?
2) Also, do you get Abyss Points directly for healing someone, or is it "damage = points" only? In DAOC you got some realm points for healing someone, as well as in WAR, if they had recently fought someone. Will this be in-place to encourage out-of-group healing?

No ingame cash shop. All i mentioned about paying extra $ is
about buying game money with real money from gold farmers or someone selling game money in ebay

1. You can deal decent dps with gear tuning.
2. No APs from healing. I wished that to be happened
Potions make big difference. Heal and Potion both is necessary to be pro pvpers. There's another very important Potion so called "Flight timer Potion" that recover your flight timer. 2. Going on the Potions and Alchemy. What trade skills do you reccomend picking up? If you were to scale all the professions on Time, Money spent, Reward (Profit or usefulness). How would you rate best to worst professions? For stable profit Sewing craft and Alchemy and Metal armor craft is recommended. If you gonna pay quite much time for craft for profit, i recommend Sewing. And if you seeking real huge profit at once(aka Lotto) may try Weaponcrafting. But its following Lotto rule. No one knows who'll make huge wealth but luck know. Cleric is 1st target to be killed. If you spec on high HP,Magic Resistance you may able to achieve quite good survivality. Cleric has one awesome CC so called 'Shackle' thing. instant 6sec roots to a target in 25m range and cooltime is only 10sec. Thanks again Kilkil2. Your information has been amazing so far! :-) (eye hyperemia lol)
hey kilkil2, got a few questions regading gladiators i hoped you could answer. 1. How much more item dependent are gladiators compared to lets say something like a ranger or assassin? I think item dependent by classes is something like this. Glad=Templar=Assassin > Ranger=Chanter > Sorc >= Cleric > Spiritmaster Melee classes are used to required high grade items. 2. Are gladiators wanted in 6 man groups? Actually not that much.. Because it's too common. Gladiators with equipped super quality items, yes they are very wanted :P Cleric and Chanter used to be most wanted class because no one play it (at least in Korean server) class population for rvr is like 15%glad 20%templar 20%sin 10%ranger 10%sorc 10%cle 10%chanter 5%sm 3. You did mention that gladiators can tank 90% of the content currently in game. Are people however willing to let a gladiator tank or do they always get a templar whenever they can? Most light users with average items liked to put Templars in group for main tanker. Templar has better defensive ability so this let be easy group hunting. With Glad main tanking your group able to get better dps but with some mob add can be dangerous in a sec, also Glad don't have that much taunting skills. Since Aion's combat is very fast paced people used to concern about safe hunting than fast hunting(can be fast die) 4. If a templar is in the party already, do people still invite gladiators for PVE or do they stack on assassins and sorcerers? Surely they like to have DPS since hard tank is in group. Except few cases that sub tank class is needed. Glad and Assassin in group PVE is very unwanted from what i've seen. Assassin is too many so i saw tons of sins used to yell about "i need group someone invite me plzz" Its like WoW's Rrogue situation guess you know what i'm saying lol. Glad is just unwanted quite much because people prefer to have Templar[tank]+Sin(Sorc)[dps] While Cleric/Chanter is added to friend from all common classes and when he logged in getting lots of PM like this "Hey we need a Cleric and we are g2g" 5. How difficult is it to get the much needed gladiator stigmas, the dual wield one and the uncle snare, i hear they go for a lot. Except 1 or 2 cases most stigmas are cheap. Gotta pay much Kinah to buy 1 or 2 stigmas that horribly expensive that has very good efficiency 6. Overall is it harder for a gladiator to find a PVE group compared to assassin and ranger? Assassin > Glad = Ranger maybe not much difference between those classes. This will be not that biggy problem i guess NA/EU version getting quite much more Clerics/Chanters than our servers. Shouldn't be problem. So just follow your taste imo 7. What professions are recommended for gladiators? You mean craft? idk lol too hard question
I just want to say thank you to kilkil for all the info. It was a major contributing factor for me to decide to preorder this game, and not brush it off as another grindy f2p thing.
Comments
killkill2 thanks for your continues replies to this thread, providing useful insights.
I have some questions though:
1) How's the assassin in group pvp? Useful? Always dead?
2) Other than the AOE DOT the spiritmaster's damage is anygood in PVP? Does it manage to kill anything?
Best regards.
Glad is ok for 90% PvE part.
Only except very few strongest raid bosses Glad is able to tank in most situation.

Kilkil2
Im curious on what the Skills a Spirit master gets that are great for CC. Are they AoE CC? Stun? Root? Mez? What is it that they do that can help a group in PvP so much aside from there AoE?
What would a Spirit Master do if it were 6v6?
Thank you for everyone left good message to me :]
Btw many things can be changed since they announced NA/EU version going to be launched on 1.5version.
In 1.5 There's lots of balancing patch & new things & enormous new great items incoming.
1.5 going to be launched in 3-4 weeks on P2P test server aka "Korean Servers"
So regard my advice as just advice from P2P test server lol.
I know that you know that NC know that the usual saying
"Korea is very suitable nation as Testbed of IT(game)"
Things gonna be changed massively.
4. 1.5 sec casting PBAOE Fear(10~15sec duration) : 15m pbaoe 1min reacst timer.
5. 2.5 sec casting Fear (12~15sec) : 25m range and 30sec recast
6. instant Roots(20sec duration) : 25m range 1min recast
Second of spell's duration or recast may be different.
And some other useful kinda cc spells do they have.
Since almost all kind of CC(Roots,Mezz,Tree) that have longer duration than stun/knockback/fall
can be cured by cleric instantly, easily(Purify. Just a click and you get cured)
SM's fear is only way to lock targets down because feared target running away so fast
that cause it easily get away from their Cleric's Cure range.
in 6v6 Sm's fear is way to win. I used to say "I Win Button"
Fear on enemies Cleric, and spike dps on a target that has weak armor-> a target down
In all teamplay mmo game a target down is very meaningful
First off, I can't thank you enough for the in-depth answers and commentary you have made in this thread, kilkil2!
I have a very basic question that I can't tell because of lag playing from the U.S. on the Chinese AION servers: Is there a global cooldown (i.e. you must wait 1.5 seconds between actions regardless of type), or is it like DAOC where you can use any abilities that are not on a re-use/cooldown timer?
Thanks!

Thank you extremely much for the info!
Poor kilkil. He needs some backup haha.
How do they spend cash? Can you buy gear in game with cash there? Or they buy gold from gold farmers and then buy the gear? Or people ebay the gear for cash?
And is everything tradeable? Nothing like WoW where the nice stuff is mostly no drop?
No ingame cash shop. All i mentioned about paying extra $ is
about buying game money with real money from gold farmers or someone selling game money in ebay
1. You can deal decent dps with gear tuning.
2. No APs from healing. I wished that to be happened
Thanks again! I am hoping they will add AP's for healing as well... it would really help encourage healers to help people not in their group.
I just want to say thank you to kilkil for all the info. It was a major contributing factor for me to decide to preorder this game, and not brush it off as another grindy f2p thing.
