But why is it a good move to charge your potential player base full price plus, for access to your alpha stage testing?

Why not charge the price for an account like the normal 15 bucks, and then if they want to buy the game they could buy the box at a later date after the beta's?

One reason to charge that up front fee for access to beta is the fact you will only get people dedicated to the game to help test the game and finalize it without having to wade through all the crap of people who want the game to be completely different just so they might enjoy the game.

I always get amused when a bunch of people whine about pvp elements in a game designed for pve and vice versa. There are so many games out there it is much better to  pick a game that is fairly close to what you want to play rather than trying to whine a game into what you want because it never will be.

Back to the topic at hand $75 is very expensive for a game in the US. That is 50% more than what we are typically willing to pay. Add in to that the current recession and the fact it is likely to last at least another year and I dont see them selling a large number of boxes. On the other hand every company is free to make whatever mistakes they want to make.

not convincing. any company does give a rats ass about customers dedication. important is customers payment. this reminds me much more on the old dnl story. does anyone remember that hoax?

preorders are a simple method of getting fresh money into the company and beta payments - if this is true, i did not follow mo really just went on this forum for this insane prices beeing discussed on furum activities :) is even much worse!

BECAUSE I as customer do not have any interrest in paying a game i am debugging!

MO is just going to be a more expensive Darkfail. A shame too.

  • bingo69bingo69 Member UncommonPosts: 195

Hahaha. This is hilarious. So many whiney crying because the game cost too much. Wait for digital download and it should be cheaper then DF. DF had no boxing, no shipping and no mass production, just a Digital Download.

What make MO pricey is is how the compagny didn't make it mass produced. Compagny like funcom and Blizzard ect have way more money then a new compagny trying to break the MMORPG place. To me, MO is one of the compagny who try to make their dream become reality by making their dream game alive.

Obviously, money doesn't drop form tree (actually it's does it's paper!) so, once they're money run out ( which seme like it did) they need to get some. So they sold their game pre-maturely  with pre-order giving the player beta access ( so they can enjoy the game sooner) and finish the game within the delay.

If you find the game is to pricey now, don't buy it and wait. but please, stop crying.

So you are paying all of this in advance too? So you are buying the game, full price, upfront, so if you hate the game in beta, LOL Screwed?

5 bucks at game stop to play in a beta, that can be used to purchuse another game if I don't end up buying said preorder.  Or should I put down 75++ before I have even played the game.

Hmmm.  One sounds smart, the other sides like I would have to have a FEW holes in my head to think about doing.

haha... right on... tell the truth brotha...

Well the truth is that the devs has already promised that you will never need too buy the game again for that reason... They also promised that they will get a NA server if the demand is big enough..... please do some research before posting lies.

And WAR did have their game divided from the start while darkfall never told their players about it and just added it after, many NA players got screwed, not same in my book.

BTW the NA server they were talking about is a NA beta server if the demand is there. Read that carefully, they are talking about having a server for the NA players for BETA!!!!

Now compare that to a certain other EU companies game and their NA server 5 months after the "launch" and still have to either pay to play or wait 3 months and then pay to transfer.

Big difference there, but of course the failbots already know that which is why they are over here trying to stifle this game. They can read the writing on the wall of their underpopulated servers.

Yes they are gonna get a beta server for NA players if the demand is there because the game is in beta. And if the demand is there after the beta of course they will have the server there after beta also!

where did you get your pricing? this is from their website. they aren't even charging for expansions. (or so it says)

The monthly subscription cost of Mortal Online will be €14.25 for Europeans and $14.25 for everybody else. This cost is subject to change.

The monthly subscription cost includes all future updates and expansions for Mortal Online. No additional costs will be charged for future expansions.

Nope. People who don't like the game will "LOL SELL" it on ebay or other mediums for a higher price than they have bought it to all the people waiting for a spot in beta. Just like people did for dorkfail.

Hmmm, i ussually won't post anything but.....

Temptation is, well.... i just have to get this out of my chest.

So finally, some idiotic guy, perhaps while he was smoking, came with the idea "Hey, let's charge a ridiculous amount for the game we're still doing, and mascarade it as "exclusivity, super hyped, with super *cough* advantages".

"...So mister president with my idea we just not only get some cashflow but in the event the beta crashes and burns the company will end with some nickels in the pocket.

And if everything goes smoothly well... we got some funding for our development courtesy of the dear fanboys..."

I'm amazed how this type of marketing non-sense can lure people to pay for a freakign BETA!, not only the company benefits from beta playes who spen their time finding bugs, etc etc...but now if it wasn't enough they go, and for the sake of "Coolness", "exclusivity", and "whatever you like" they rip out the pockets of those players too.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD PEOPLE! are you guys so desperated?!?!?!? to pay for a thing that should be free?, you know not so long ago companies had to invest to get their merchandise going to magazines, publishers..etc etc.. now you guys pay for even the shipping costs.

It's outrageous, if this is the road, well my friends, i must say it ends with the public funding entirely the games, yes, no more cash from corps, they'll find the way to lure peopl eonto funding at least part of games.

Bleh.... this is just nonsense. Where are we heading in our gaming selves.

The preorder is not different from any other, because you only pay for the game! You dont pay for the beta, its a preorder for the game!

And if the price and shipping is your problem then just wait one week for the DD?

  • KordeshKordesh Member Posts: 1,715

Just throwin it out there since nobody seems to have clarified it yet. The monthly fee is NOT $20. It's $15 and 15euros. US players are not paying a converted euro fee. Yes, it sucks, because technically anyone using euros needs to pay more, but otherwise the monthly fee would be flipping all over the place every time the exchange rate changed.  But the US is $15, not 20.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

You did not really follow this whole issue am i right? People did not pay for Beta...they payed for the preorder. There were Beta testers invited and in the game before preorders even started. One of the biggest german MMO pages poped up a lottery for Beta keys just now...www.onlinewelten.com/win/238-mortal-online-beta-keys/ So you can very much get into it for free...luck is the keyword here as in any other Beta.

I also state again that SV asked the community "Do you guys want a boxed/CE Version?" and they happily replied "Yes please." So i do not see the problem. Mind you that one-time production runs for the small amount of 10k copies are quite expensive so i assume the profit margin is pretty slim.

Personally i did not preorder so far as i wait until i get my hands on more detailed information. I still do not get all the complaining. You surely posses quite an amount of electronic gadgets/gizmos/clothing/whatever that are "exclusive, super hyped, with super *cough* advantages" like we all do...and all those things are much bigger rip-offs usually with insane profit margins. Maybe start bitching there and also care less for other peoples private money? WHAT? 100 dollars for some pants made in a chinese sweat shop...HOW COULD YOU?!

anyways analogies suck but i am sure you get the point...

Well my friend, still don't see the point of charging for a freaking beta, in whatever shape you want to transform it.

And you just made a judgement of character that does not apply to me lol. But anyhow thanks for getting the point of the post. Just don't shield me, yourself or the entire community of the precept that we all are consumists and we have to pay blindfolded for things in game and in real life without knowing the truth behind the goods we've aquired and worst of it that we just have to suck it up.

    Sub Fees are:

    14.25€ (Euro) for EU players.

14.25$ (Dollar) for US players (and everybody else who is not an EU citizen).

You do NOT pay any fees or get charged while the game is in Beta whatsoever.

The price of 75$ for the BOXED version already INCLUDES the shipping fees to ANY location worldwide.

There WILL be a DD version which should be slightly cheaper than most MMOs that release with Digital Download.

    Did you comprehend the post?

You did not even bother to take a SINGLE look at the MO store i guess?

And no i did not preorder so spare me your "fanboy" rambling..but at least lets rephrase correct information shall we?

All these companies need to do is realeas a high quality game like EQ or WoW and they can get rich charging $5/month if they wanted to.

    *sigh*

    Just keep beliving that  =)

Over and out, won't waste more posting space arguing over a lost casue.

I just shared my concern, i expected a decent answer like the other guy with some sort of in depth analisis. But heh... you go on and get lost between lines of shipping costs, and the over inflated price for a non-finished product. Wich still is in beta.

And no i did not preorder so spare me your "fanboy" rambling..but at least lets rephrase correct information shall we?

I "believe" in nothing i just quote the information as it is now from the official source for you. No point in having a debate about wrong information. I guess that is important to everybody here.

And yes your concern is valid as it is a beta product but the choice is yours to make as it is with any other product you do not trust.  People tend to have pretty crazy priorities and views when it comes to matters of entertainment. Again there is no point in having a debate about personal choices.

What kind of "in-depth analysis" do you expect...do the homework yourself? Maybe try to read? Judging from your elitist behavior (no offense) there is no point in going into one anyways because so far you just slapped of every argument as "fanboyish" or a matter of "believe".

And pulling back from arguing just because you have no arguments left under the cloak of "i know better anyways you idiot" is pretty weak for someone who asks for an "in-depth analysis".

You just hide behind your monitor having a good laugh while trolling don`t you?

And if the price and shipping is your problem then just wait one week for the DD?

    Nice post fanboy!

and yes according to the info i've read on the forums you're paying 20$ (or 15$) of beta worth + 75$ game+shipping

Anyhow.... did you comprehend the post, read it, analize it? or just felt the sudden urge to burst your fanboy flag.

    Nice post failboy!

I've never seen an MMO that was considered "finished". They typically keep changing and adding to it throughout it's lifetime. Sometimes making changes so huge, it completely wipes out work the company did before launch.

The fan-base wanted a box and CE edition, so when SV made them available, they passed the cost of production directly to the consumer.

Please remember that the boxed versions include shipping (€7 worldwide) and for all Europeans you must pay 25% VAT. The box is a huge cost for us as we are forced to put that cost on the customer, meaning we do not earn anything more over the normal rate. We did this because there was a demand from the community and we listened. EU laws force us to add 25% VAT on all European costumers, unfortunately this must be put on the customers payment which indeed make the game a bit pricy for all Europeans. This is your choice to buy the boxed version or not. We did it because the community wanted one and we do agree it get a bit expensive, unfortunately we cannot sell these boxes with a loss.

The monthly subscription cost of Mortal Online will be €14.25 for Europeans and $14.25 for everybody else. This cost is subject to change.

The monthly subscription cost includes all future updates and expansions for Mortal Online. No additional costs will be charged for future expansions.

The Beta server is located in Stockholm, Sweden. It's fully possible to access the server from all countries; however we obviously can't guarantee the speed and performance over long distances. Earlier Beta-testing has shown good, playable ping from the U.S. for instance, but please remember that the speed of your local network provider in U.S. is an important factor as well.

Additional game servers, including servers in other countries, are considered for the near future. There will be no extra costs involved in starting a character on one of those servers if and when they are up. However, character transfers will not be possible, at least not to begin with, not even between servers in the same country.
